I would think that it ought to be possible. I'm just saying there's no guarantee because those definitely aren't "standard" colors even among what wiki antiseptically calls "Japanese Street Fashion" which tends to use every color imaginable for eveything.

Many of those are just icky, gross, freaky, disease scenarios but at least as far as the Japanese contact lenses go I can confirm there's a huge market for those there. I've seen stores in Japan with probably a 1,000 different styles stocked on multiple rows of shelves. The following is just the tip of that particular iceberg:

I don't have a problem with "creepy eyes" or "custom contact eyes" or the like. But something that's just "normal person icky" like pink eye is just nasty.

Yeah definatly should have watched the whole video before I shared it.... but some of it's cool, like the multiple irises and pupils in one eye, though I guess not the real ones but the photoshopped ones look pretty neat, I can see myself adding that feature to a half man half bug type of guy.

Sure we need all that "American Revolution" themed stuff. Also related to this I hope we have a bunch of options for applying stars on all sorts of costume items. How else am I going to be able to make my Wonder Woman and Star Girl ripoffs... Uh, I mean "respectful non-IP infringing homages". ;)

The Devs came out and said you can pick an icon (like a star) and move it anywhere you want on the costume...further you can do it multiple times.
AND you can earn Titan city company logos and festoon your costume with corporate endorsements (and put them anywhere you want!).

So pick a star, make it big or small and festoon yourself in a galaxy if you want.

Another Leather jacket, this

Another Leather jacket, this brings to mind, Talos (whom I hope to be possible in COT).

Two things,
1) the collar. I love the high collar. I would like different collar choices for jackets.
2) the Race Bannon Buttons. This style should be available on shirts as well. Its just way cool.
3) (OK, three things) The Goggles. I like them either down or up like this. please give us the choice, thanks.

Yeah I recall what the Devs said about this. I'm just doing my best to maintain a "believe it when I see it" attitude because I don't want to fool myself into imgaining how well that would work and then get disappointed when reality doesn't match expectation.

If this works as advertised I expect I'll eventually be spending hours attaching a million stars to a bunch of stuff. ;)

This brings to mine another costume option. a galaxy/starfield texture.
There was some "Cosmic" super that had black spandex and glowy points of light like a starfield. This would only work if the stars were glowy.
I cannot think of the guys name...I think he was DC, one of the Legion of Super Heroes of something.

In DCUO there are costume pieces that are more like costume shaped holes looking out onto a starfield. One of Diana Prince's proteges is the only non-player character I can almost think of who wears it in the game. Donna Troy?

Yeah I was just looking at examples of her like that via google:

Apparently this was one of her "iconic" costumes that has since evolved over time.

I could see them being able to come up with "starfield" textures for clothes and maybe even skin coloring but I'd be amazed if they could apply that over to hair styles as seen in this example. Still I get what you were suggesting here and I could always be wrong about that as well. ;)

Now the real trick with doing

Now the real trick with doing a starfield texture would be whether the stars in the field would be static or dynamic.

What I mean by that is whether the stars would stay permanently fixed on the material (like Wonder Woman's 'stars' stay fixed on her costume) or would they be able to make the stars in the starfield move around relative to the movements of the character (to give the spooky appearance that you're looking through some kind of window at the -real- stars in the universe behind the character).

Either would be cool but one would obviously be harder to implement than the other.

Hmmm, interesting idea.
I say static for launch, and movement for the cash shop. (or both for the cash shop) The Devs are gonna make a mint off of me. I can't wait to unlock costumes.

Actually, I think dynamic

Actually, I think dynamic would be the easiest. The way it is done is that a simple 2D image is a layer on your screen, and the only way to see it is through the outline of the costume item in question. The movement of the character and camera take care of the rest. Then all the game has to do is move the layer around slowly so even when the character and the camera are still the image continues to shift, and you're done.

This is how DCUO does it and you'd never know unless you investigated it deeply.

Check out this video for illustration:

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

Thanks for finding this example. I knew I've seen this kind of thing in action at some point - that's how I knew it was a "thing" to suggest in the first place. ;)

Yeah it might ultimately not be that hard to do in CoT but it would likely take some unique extra effort to accomplish. I can't off-hand think of anything else this kind of effect might be similar to so the Devs might categorize it as "relatively lots of effort for one texture" and de-prioritize it based on that alone. I guess we'll see but as Cyclops said something like this would make for a good "specialty item" to sell in the in-game store.

Well, once you've enabled the

Well, once you've enabled the star-field skin, different skins would just be a matter of changing the underlying 2D image.

DCUO has also done this with a fractal design, which looks more like an ugly plaid tartan to me and also with a water texture to great effect.

I think once we open up the capability we could put all manner of fields in there.

what about Kirby dots for instance?

You will notice in the first video with the DCUO Cosmic skin if you look closely enough that it is not just a single 2D image, but an animated 2D image of twinkling stars with a second transparent overlay image with galaxies that slowly shifts.

So those kirby dots would be an AMAZING skin if we animated it the same way; especially if we get to pick the colors.

Edit:
Or even a Roy Lichtenstein-esque pattern Ben Day dot homage to classic comic book textures:

Who wants to play a silver age comic book hero come to life from the page?

Me too! Just looking at that image has now given me enough jet fuel for my creative engines... oh, the new character ideas...

And THAT is why I want all available costume options available in the character creator. So players will be able to see what they COULD make, if they were willing to spend a li'l kibble in the cash shop, or earn some certain in-game rewards. Obviously some costume items should be withheld for plot purposes and other reasons as provided by the devs, but the more players get to see at character creation, the more creative they will be, the more characters they will want to make, and the more costumes and character slots they will purchase.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that it doesn't have to be a character skin. It could also be a costume material selection type of skin and a prop skin. So if you just want a globe head, or a sword, or a cape with a cosmic background, or water background, or kirby dot background, you could do that and still have normal human skin if you wanted.

Again you know how these go - it's basically whatever we can trick the Devs into prioritizing.

Clearly some of these "textures" would work better than others. The "fractal design" one looks so off-putting to me that it appears like there's something wrong with the game's graphics and it's just spitting out graphical garbage to the screen.

Oh dear. Someone's picked up the Magical Girl HORROR genre baton that Puella Magi Madoka Magica carelessly left lying around ...

This is NOT a happy/genki magical girls show ... o.O;

Body count in just the first episode?
2 verified dead humans (the results were NOT pretty)
1 presumed about to die human (wounds inflicted are assumed to be lethal)
1 stray cat maliciously killed on purpose just to cause mental anguish to the girl who had been caring for it

But for our purposes of this thread ... pay attention to the eyes on that girl with the gun towards the end of the video. That is some MAJOR creep factor going on there ...

I want to see a magical girl show where the main character is in her like 20s and is still having to deal with magical girl stuff and is just so done with it. Like, she's trying to go to college, has a job, but yet evil forces keep showing up! So she has to transform into her costume that used to be cute but is now just embarassing.

You want Mahou Shoujo Ore ... where the girl's mom WAS a magical girl, and only recently gave it up (her daughter is 15) ... and the daughter never knew about it (until now).

I have a saying for this kind of show. "Every Sacred Cow Must Be BBQed!" ... and boy is this one an utterly massive cookout for magical girl tropes! Best of all, it just began airing, so if you're looking for a FUN show to watch ...

Alas, Magical Girl Neil is on Indefinite Hiatus. It's like how Red described Mahou Shoujo Ore, except maybe for the "recently" part. And that the new magical girl who is hearing about this for the first time is her son. ^_^

You mean just have the patches of "velcro" on our shoulders without having any cape at all just as sort of an inside joke? I have no problem with that. :) Maybe we could also have a cape option that would basically be the remaining bits of a ripped/shredded cape hanging from our backs to simulate a cape that's already been through an "accident" of some kind.

Exactly. And the ripped-off cape would be good, also. ^_^

I expect to have to pay stars for either or both options.

Long hair like Star-fire from DCUO, and tails. I have yet to see any non-human elements in any of these projects yet.

There are no super long hair options in any super hero mmo I know of. Not sure how long or wild hair can get in CoT.

Don't think I have seen that before, thanks.

And thank you CoT, I guess I will finally get the long Starfire hair the players have been asking for years now in DCUO, but in CoT. That game is good if you are a Batman fan, but I like to use my imagination and not be a Batman rip off.

Hopefully males get the long wild hair too.

Just as a pure semi-educated/semi-arbitrary guess I doubt you'd ever see hair longer than a character is tall in CoT. It just seems like the overall animation challenges of anything longer would be, to use a technical phrase, a "complete-pain-in-the-ass" to implement:

As far as tails go I would be amazed if CoT didn't launch with at least a few basic tail types.

That's exactly why I've never bothered to try DCUO. It's not that I hate the DC Universe... it's just that I'd rather create my own characters instead of running around as "Batman Mini-Me Clone #4572".

The Devs of CoT have continually stated they plan to have as few (if any) "gender locked" costume options as possible. This means any hair style in the game should be useable by both the male and female body models.

Hah how weird -- I was literally just thinking today about how every single character in DCUO is somehow a crazy-experience Martial Artist in some way. The actual "powers" are the after thought in that game. (Their animations can be pretty good, though, and they treated Shields well)

Well clearly a game like DCUO is targeted at a specific type of player. There's nothing wrong with playing effectively "as" Batman or "as" Wonder Woman if you really like those characters. I simply consider something like that a very fancy arcade game or FPS with no RPG-value. I prefer to play RPGs where there's a real sense that I'm creating my OWN original characters (either in appearance, powers or both). Just like some people like football and others like golf - nothing wrong with either but nothing says you have to like both.

And this is the crux of the matter for me. I much rather create something at least somewhat unique rather than play an existing character. I think those games appeal more to a younger generation of gamer. The ones that can still get a good ride out of being their favorite comic crusader but for those of us that have “been there and done that” it’s a bit cliche and dried out. Not that it doesn’t have its merits but just not something I want to play.

Whereas COT offers a wide array of DIY features that just appeal so much more to me! Still so excited about this update!

So when not flying, the hair is it normal length. But when exercising a travel power, it will stream behind in a hair textured wake; like a contrail, perhaps. And when you stop traveling, it "catches up to" the character and returns to its normal length.

Clearly letting such a "contrail" like that be actual "stretched out hair" with all the related animation issues that go with that would be extremely problematic.

But I agree like you say maybe if the contail was something more like a relatively simple (as in non-hair) trailing aura effect that would stream outward beyond the end of the actual hair while flying and contract back when becoming stationary it might be more feasible. Even your provided pic sort of implies the trailing effect of her hair is not technically "hair" but more like an aura effect.

Didn't CoH used to have a trailing aura that emanated from a character's feet? This would be the same idea but coming from the end of the hair instead. It probably wouldn't be that trivially simple to do but it still seems reasonable; maybe you'd have to wear a special kind of hair (bought via in-game store?) that would be uniquely made specifically linked to this effect.

We finally just got around to seeing Ready Player One last night and it was pretty good. Obviously all the pop culture references were fun but as far as this thread goes I had to mention Art3mis:

I liked how her avatar's head/face were not quite "standard human" but just a bit anime-esque with the eyes/ears. Basically (as always) I'd like to see pretty much all of the costume/body details shown in these pics in CoT.

I guess we'll see. I could definitely see where it might be easier for a graphics engine to produce a dress like this:

because it wouldn't have to worry about how to animate the leg slit opening. But who knows - maybe CoT will surprise us. ;)

Yeah some of those parts are more likely going to exist in CoT than others. Beyond the face I'd collectively be interested in the dress, the hair, the shoes, the choker necklace, the longer chain necklace, the earrings, the henna-like tattoos, and so on.

P.S. While looking at the Art3mis dress pic again I began to wonder if we're going to have visible belly buttons on the CoT character models. I know the idea of having nips (visible under clothing or otherwise) is a lost cause but has anyone asked about (or mentioned) the fate of belly buttons in this game? Obviously it's not a hyper-critical detail but all things being equal it would at least be -nice- to have that as a natural anatomical feature on our characters.

P.P.S. How's this for an idea: Even if the game does not provide the basic body models with belly buttons maybe the Devs might be clever enough to allow us the option to apply a belly button to our characters as a body tattoo. It probably wouldn't be too hard to "simulate" a navel with such a tattoo. ;)

Oh I'm quite sure if players are able to mod costume texture files the way we were able to in CoH then I'd have no doubt there will be client-side mods for all sorts of things. While the CoT Devs have sort of implied that this will be the case there's obviously no guarantee those capabilities will -actually- exist. I'd rather wait to see how things pan out before I get too set in my assumptions about what will and won't be possible here.

*lassos thread and pulls it

*lassos thread and pulls it away from the twin peaks*

Initially I was peeved at the Artemis character in the movie but I think they did a great job with her. Some of it was a bit contrived but they only had 2 hours to work with so I'll give them the benefit of the format. Overall happy with the movie. I admit I was crushing on Arti in the club scene. She was definitely getting into that particular persona.

So I haven't been around for awhile so I need to rewind a bit. That Raven piece was A-W-E-S-O-M-E !! I would also like to point out a nice little effect that has fallen under the radar thus far. There was a near little purple glow that was coming from the back of the hood to highlight her hair. It's a small detail, perhaps it could be something as simple as allowing the characters aura to be blocked by the costume. It might be difficult for the devs to say "this is the character and this is the costume" and what is costume and what is character may not be the same for the player and the dev.

There was a little spat about details being too fine to notice. Eye color is something that is hard to pick out on a human from more than a few feet away (other than light or dark) In a game where your camera is usually 10 feet behind you (or more) there is a solid argument for not including combat eye auras. That said as we can see in Artemis photo you can use anime style eye's to increase the visibility of the eye color. And there are times when you might pull in that camera to show off that eye color and all the time you spent adding green and gold iridescent makeup. I found it slightly amusing that the same argument was used against HD hair models. "Push the character model to the extremes. No! don't improve the hair model." Sure it's super difficult to render hair at the level pictured today...but in a few years it may not be. The reasons for which don't need to be discussed here. Secondly, this thread is for collecting ideas not shooting them down. Anyone is welcome to submit whatever idea's they like and the devs will decide what they can and can not do.

Looking at the cape video I wonder if that could be applied to a dress or skirt. The cloth was set to a very light weight and didn't seem to be affected as much as it should be for a standard atmosphere. Both of which would probably need to be adjusted for a dress, otherwise it would flip up over your face every time you triggered super speed. Perhaps that is just a side effect of defying the laws of physics, your dress is no longer a piece of clothing but a blindfold. I am curious how COT will handle dresses/skirts/kilts. I don't think we've seen much in the way of that particular costuming in any of the videos so far. I think they are struggling with costuming options as I don't think they can pull anything off the shelf since their model is as complex as it is.

I think the star field effect is actually pretty common and shouldn't be terribly hard to recreate. It's probably in the UE store somewhere. I know they use this in GW2 and WOW and I'm pretty sure it existed in COH as well.

I like a lot of the suggestions lately, though it seems a lot of Cyclops' images went missing.

Well the boob window will be in at launch, a twitch already showed that off.
The belly tee shirt will likely be there for launch as well. Its the jacket that sells the pic for me. Love it, especially the collar/ I like the scarf blowing in the wind too.
The boots are great! They look like skier boots. Devs, please look at these boots, They could be a part of a power armor set.

For a person who says things like "this thread is for collecting ideas not shooting them down" you have a funny way of disrepecting what people choose to talk about here. Just saying if you don't want to talk about "the twin peaks" simply don't talk about them and talk about other things instead. We don't need a running judgmental commentary here.

Grimfox wrote:

Actually if we were to pay attention to that "solid argument" then the Devs might as well let our charaters be completely nude on the front half of their bodies because the players playing the game will never normally see the front half of their characters. ;)

I'm all for having as many subtle, barely noticeable options on the fronts of our characters because even if the player doesn't normally see them that often EVERYONE ELSE in the game looking at your characters will.

Grimfox wrote:

I'm as much for "wishing thinking" about what will be possible with the graphics of this game as the next person. I'm simply aware that some things are much more "likely possible" than others. Even you point out complex hair animation is currently still relatively hard to do well in a game like this.

Obviously it's always going to come down to what the Devs prioritize. But when people suggest things that are like 10x harder to do than other things (which makes them 10x LESS LIKELY to ever be in CoT) I'm perfectly within my rights to point that out.

I'm the type of person who wants the Devs to develop things based on the path of least resistance. Sure they could probably spend the time and effort to make super HD hair animation in CoT but if doing that means they run out of time to implement 10 or 20 slightly easier things that we could also have in this game then I'm willing to NOT get super HD hair animation in favor of getting all those other things instead. It's really that simple.

Grimfox wrote:

I actually pretty much like all of this as stuff for CoT... including the vehicle itself.

Every hood could/should have a lining color. I know that capes in CoX had a separate color and texture for their linings, so its not like we'd be asking for anything special if we asked for that. But what would be so much more special would be if hoods had some sort of inner glow setting like that picture of Raven had. We should be able to make it glow as dimly or as brightly as we wanted to in character creation. My imagination is running with the possibilities.

This is an interesting detail that I also admittedly didn't notice when the pic was first posted. The back part of her cloak is actually glowing in a similar way. I wonder how the Devs could implement something like this.

It would have to be a glow that couldn't "leak" out of the back of the hood/cloak yet you wouldn't want it to be so bright as to act like a "spotlight" either. You also wouldn't want the entire inner lining of the hood/cloak to glow - just a point hidden way in the back. Maybe the Devs could make the inner linings of hoods, cloaks, capes, etc. support multiple textures. Then they could apply a small circle of "glowing" texture all the way in the very back of these items that you would never directly see. Once there the glow could shine out from that hidden point so that we only see the indirect glow.

I always wondered why the good doctor didn't start out with a cute girl in the first place.

This a cool idea for CoT. It's basically a re-hash of Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas:

It actually reminds me of the talk we had earlier in this thread about using special tattoos to implement "robot skin":

It would seem that the Devs could use the same technique to create "sewing seams" in a Frankenstein-type character.

Especially if you can use the seams as borders (or place them along pre-determined borders) for different flesh-tone regions, as seen in the image of U.N.I.T.Y. above, representing a wide variety of source material for our hypothetical no-original-parts hero(ine).

Considering that it would be a costume item, I'd imagine that it would have each skin area be able to be colored differently in the character creator; just like every other costume item has. Good idea.

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

I forget but wasn't the plan for moveable and resizeable decals? I'd think they'd add in a few various stitch patterns for use if that was the case.

Revenge is motivation enough. At least it's honest...

IIRC, the "plan" is to allow for moveable/resizeable decals but of course we don't yet know how flexible that'll be in CoT. But yes it would seem that such a capability would be perfect to apply random "stitch tattoos/patterns" to our characters.

I could see decals working for stitch patterns only if they were patches of skin/material or if they were simply wound scar stitches. But the stitches for franken-people wouldn't work as decals because they need to circumscribe the body part they are on. So if there is going to be frankenskin, I would think the character creator would give us a number of options to include everything from a single limb transplant at one end of the spectrum to a complete jigsaw puzzle person at the other.

I had suggested stitches

I had suggested stitches before, along with button eyes, and a zipper for the back. Might have been in the previous costume request thread.

That's pretty much what I allowed for when I said "we don't yet know how flexible that'll be in CoT". Perhaps the moveable/resizeable decals will allow for circumscribable marks.

Now the idea of having a literal "patchwork" person where like you guys were talking about having different puzzle-piece patterns across the skin like in the following (slightly hyperbolic) example:

would probably require more than the relatively simple "moveable/resizeable decal" system could handle. Not that it wouldn't be cool, but that'd definitely require something different to handle that. I suppose it could be handled like a complete spandex/zentai body suit like this:

But with the specialized Frankenstein-esque "patchwork" pattern on it.

If it was that long ago it's probably already summarized at the top of this thread. But never really hurts to repeat stuff because I figure that gives the Devs the idea of just how much people would want X, Y or Z. ;)

Um ... you're going to want to be able to do patchwork/stitching for cloth just as much as you do it for flesh ...

Probably. That make's being able to have a "patchwork" pattern for clothes important for multiple reasons. Then if you want to try to make this look like "patchwork skin" being able to put that pattern on a skin-tight spandex bodysuit will likely be the easiest way to do it.

Gonna put in the request for "blocky" robotic parts. Mannequin style robot parts are great and all, but they often don't have that industrial feel you're looking for in a robot. Blizzardf's done a few good examples of that in the past.

An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
