Wow that's an old thread. Amazing how something from 2 or 3 years ago can seem like a lifetime on this forum. :)

Some times something from like a week ago can feel like a lifetime ago.

My opinion: Rice paper to start with, for Ito's Origami. As the devs have time, add in various grades of printer paper. Last would be construction paper or cardstock.

Edit: lined or ruled paper would be like a pattern on a item.

Seeing a stack of print paper like that reminds me of the good old days when we literally used line printer terminals like this:

Imagine a computer console that used paper instead of a CRT screen. They were clunky, noisy and obviously wasted a crap-ton of paper but the one advantage they did provide was that if you needed a hardcopy of what you were doing the machine basically created that hardcopy automatically as a side-effect of its operation.

Fireheart wrote:

That kind of old, rough leathery texture (like the following antique map of North and South America):

would actually work well if you wanted to do withered skin for an old hag or ghoulish type character. It might be possible to use a texture like this to create something close to a Freddy Krueger type character:

Anyway like you said at least this movie style matched up pretty close to various comic book versions we've seen of Captain Marvel.

Sadly I would likely take "Brie Larson playing Tasha Yar in a new TNG reboot" a million times before putting up with what CBS/Paramount is currently calling Star Trek now.

Perhaps Seth MacFarlane will invite Brie to guest star on the -actual- TNG reboot that he created. It'd be funny to see Brie as the captain of another Planetary Union ship so that her name could be like Captain Velmar. ;)

you take a bad joke and make a realistic scenario out of it.

However, having said that, I too would like to see that. Seth has done a better job of recreating the feel of the original Star Trek and casting Brie as you've said would be a good great homage.

Wings: several different colors on the feathers. -MUST HAVE! Black Falcon's wings are brown with black feathers on the bottom.
Tails: The above also works with her tail feathers. On the Devilish guy I like the multi-color tail itself AND the tuft of fur at the end instead of the traditional arrow.

Egyptian style outfit: Great! Longer, more formal loin cloth. I hope for most of this at launch.
Roman style Sandals---MUST HAVE! (for launch please)
The devil guys outfit is pretty standard. I do like the shoulder spikes. I expect most of this is already in the works. I like the open jacket with no shirt, and the unshaven face.
The Gal's make-up is great. Must have for launch.

If you look at the loin cloth: the back part is more of a but-cape. It's more regal, modest, and looks good even without any optional embroidery.

At second look I'd almost call what she's wearing a "full skirt with high side splits" rather than a "loincloth" in the strictest sense. Basically the material is completely surrounding her body at the waist. I'd bet if she was standing still from behind it could be mistaken for a full, unsplit skirt. At any rate it would probably provide more "critical skin coverage" than some of the arguably more "revealing" outfits they got away with on Buck Rogers for instance:

We've had various entries for "accurate historical clothing" listed in this thread for a while such as:

Quote:

•historical costume items (western, Asian, ancient Greco-roman, pirate, cave-man fur, etc.)
•medieval/historical European/Japanese armors with varied open/closed helmets and plumes
•various historical masks (Venetian plague doctor, kabuki, Greek theater, etc.)
•kimonos/furisodes/yukata with assoicated obi (waist sash)
•historical military-styled Cossack clothing
•Greek Chiton and Himation
•ancient Mesopotamian beard
•Viking braid hairstyles

But you do make a good point there's often a big difference between "historically accurate" versus "Hollywood fakery". Also having more cool pics to look at is always good.

P.S. Thanks for the "exposed nipple" warning. I try to keep myself to a standard of "no frontal nudity" on this thread even when it would be depictions of "cultural/historical fashion" that might be acceptable in a National Geographic type venue so I appreciate it when others do the same. :)

I had a great character whose initial point of inspiration was that big, fancy Coat. I decided it must be silk brocade and did a bunch of research to define where it might have come from... that triggered a bit of historical lore-gasm. Next thing I know, I'm researching Armenia, and 'Astarte Tsovinaar' was born.

In that case, the 'non-accurate costume piece' made the character and I had a Blast.

So, as much as I love historical costumes, sometimes the artistic licensing is also fabulous.

Found something on the

Found something on the Paragon Wiki that I don't think has ever been requested. We didn't even have a chance to get it in CoH; I want access to heavy weapon backpieces. Check this out:

I can very easily see someone making a power armor character that uses these as the emantation point for a variety of different effects. Hell, shoulder mounted weaponry isn't even something particularly new. It's been part of War Machine for a long time:

And there is of course other Science Fiction settings that have similarly mounted weaponry

I've got several ideas for literal mechs that'd greatly benefit from this kind of shoulder-mounted cannon being available.

An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".

Yeah, I'd love to have a whole robotics/implanted weapons aesthetic sets for powers. Not sure if they'd be props or part of the animations for powers.

Something champions did right was allow you to have a shoulder moubted gattling gun, rockets firing from your back, and all sorts of other power armor/robot animations.

Has Gun hands been mentioned in this thread? Like a megaman buster cannon? If it can't (for whatever reason) be a prop then they should let me have a cannon for an arm on my costume.

Pretty sure "gun hands/arms" have been covered either across this thread or the other prop/animation threads.

Clearly that's sort of a "tricky" suggestion since it does blur the lines between costume items, props and emanation points.

I think we saw a "costume item" shaped like a gun arm. There's obviously a big difference between whether you want a permanent "gun for an arm" or if you want something that dynamically changes from looking like a normal human arm into a gun.

Like I said there are a bunch of tricky variations to this idea.

The following suggestion is

The following suggestion is more of an idea for a specialized "costume slot" for CoT rather than any specific costume item.

Lately I've been playing Fallout 76 and enjoy how it handles its powered armor suits. For those who are unaware Fallout power armor is sort of like the armored suits that Iron Man uses. Basically I'd like to take this concept and re-work it to apply to CoT.

First off to be absolutely clear I'm talking about having armored suits in CoT that would be completely cosmetic in nature. I'm not suggesting having "armor" the way it works in most games where it actually provides an in-game benefit. Like all other costumes in CoT this would be just "for looks" and not connected to superpowers at all.

The main goal here is to have a DEDICATED type of costume slot that's specifically intended for armored suits that characters can get into and out of (again like Iron Man). There would be Costume Change Emotes hardwired to this costume slot so that characters can be shown getting into and out of these suits.

To better explain this the following vid of Fallout 76 shows what it looks like when a character in that game gets into a suit of power armor. The important part to look at is literally the first 5 seconds of the vid:

In CoT terms the animation shown in this vid is effectively a Costume Change Emote showing a character getting into a suit of power armor.

So let's say your CoT character starts out wearing costume slot A which is a normal costume slot with your character wearing a "causal" outfit. Then let's say you wanted your character to jump into his/her power armor. To do that you'd select to switch to costume slot B (which in this case is a dedicated power armor slot). What the game does next is kick off a hardwired Costume Change Emote showing your character jumping into the suit. Then let's say at some point you wanted to switch back to costume slot A. The game would then kick off the reverse hardwired Costume Change Emote to jump out of your power armor back into your costume slot A clothes.

The important part to understand here is that the game would now have at least two different types of costume slots. The first type would be a "normal" one that behaves just like they did in CoH. The second would be intended only for "power armor users" that would have the hardwired "jump into the suit" and "jump out of the suit" emotes. Ideally there'd be a way for a player to designate if they wanted a given costume slot to be a "normal" one or a "power armor" one.

Hopefully I've made myself clear here. :)

I love this piece.

I love this piece.
1) the military uniform breaks the spandex mold and it looks great!
2) the aura about the eyes and hands work very well.
3) The wings! outlined in glowy white lines, it is translucent. while we might not get translucent in the game, a very light blue color will come very close.
The image conveyed is that these wings are more a projection his his mind than a permanent feature.
4) the coat that is also a butt cape is great too!
5) the grimace. expressions will eventually get into the game, being able to toggle a grimace whilst you activate auras and pose will be really cool.

I am reminded of one of our esteemed members, White Peregrine. His character has very similar wings.
~~also I propose that wings have the option to only appear during flight, and disappear afterwards.

I've never really denied that. I'm just saying there are dozens of "variations" of the idea but we're likely only going to initially get 1 or 2 of them.

For instance I've always liked the idea of "arms that can morph into guns" like in T3:

Which is fairly different from an arm that's "always" a gun. Like I said there's a lot of ways to do this.

What if rather than remaking the mesh of your arm, the animation of turning your arm into a gun involves creating a mesh over your arm?

Sure that's always possible. It'd be like a big costume glove that makes your arm "look" like a gun from the outside.

I'm not really worried about whether or not the Devs could eventually accomplish these kinds of things graphics-wise. My main concern is how many of these ideas will they ever get around to implementing.

It's like saying I'd like to see 50 unique styles of capes in the game. Sure that's a pretty tall order and it might eventually happen years from now, but assuming they never get around to giving us all 50 styles it's safe to say we'll get at least 10 or 20 of them. The key point is -which- 10 or 20 would we get and who gets pissed off when they never get around to that 50th one that somebody out there really wanted?

I suppose this is a "problem" we're always going to have to deal with with a game like this. ;)

While I do like this particular pic your point about "emotable expressions" hit me like a ton of bricks in terms of how "stupidly fundamental" that feature ought to be in CoT.

I hate to keep referring to Fallout 76 but lately I've been playing a ton of it so it's fresh on my mind. Anyway I bring it up this time because the game has a system (and related GUI) for taking in-game pics that includes things like being able to pose your character in the shot. One of the controls in the GUI allows you to cycle between roughly a dozen facial expressions that make you look "happy", "sad", "angry" etc. with the corresponding facial changes to express those emotions.

It seems like it ought to be a very fundamental thing for a game like CoT to provide us with a collection of "emotion emotes" to allow our characters to express various facial emotions (like a "grimace") via command-line emote. With emotes such as these we ought to be able to link them (via keybinds) directly to power activations.

As a side benefit of having say 10 or 12 "emotion emotes" in the game the game ought to be able to let us pick one of those emotes a "default expression" that our characters always express as their default look. This way if you want a character that's typically "always smiley" or "always looks pissed off" then you can set your default expression just for that.

Understanding that we are using more realistic faces and skin textures, AND that we will not be able to get this close up to an avatar exaggerated eye make up becomes more important as most of it will be washed away by distance.

Yeah that'd be cool as well. MWM could actually "borrow" a whole bunch of good costume item ideas from movies like Flash Gordon, The Matrix, The Fifth Element and so on.

I think I've mentioned it before but one classic character concept I tried to pull off in CoH was a "petite teenaged girl piloting a mech". I tried doing this after CoH introduced the Super Science Booster that let people use any of the three body models (Male, Female or Huge) for each costume slot. Basically I added a "Huge Robot" in one of the costume slots for the preexisting teenaged girl character. It was OK but one thing that was funny about it was that the game automatically switched all the text/badge pronouns to the male versions because it assumed my "Huge" robot was male. ;)

Obviously it would be cool if CoT could eventually make it so that you could have a character "get into a mech" in a little more fluid manner. Maybe MWM could steal the animation emote of characters getting into power armor from Fallout 76. ;)

You've actually mentioned that before, and it inspired me to make a similar character in CoH! To help sell it, my character's got cybernetic limbs, so she's basically a limbless torso that wires directly into the mech through her cybernetic ports, inspired by the MEC troopers from XCOM.

That's cool. Maybe CoT will provide different options for cyber arms and legs so that instead of getting into a full mechanized "suit" a character could be more like "I use one set of cyber arms/legs for heavy combat and I use another set to look more cosmetically human".

Here's an example of what the "combat cyber legs" configuration might look like:

Perhaps CoT could have you set your character's pronouns upon creation. Per costume would be better, but the ability to set them at all would be neat. Especially when dealing with aliens, robots, monsters, etc.

Notwithstanding the way that they did various changes as well, that appear to not look good. I think perhaps this is in the wrong thread. This thread is for suggesting costume options. Discussing the shortfalls of the current incarnation of a classic skiffy TV series has been in this thread

Much more this, more options is better in this regard. Though I wouldn't call them helmets but rather alternative heads, but that's most likely a technicality.

If MWM has to choose and if just scaling them up/down is not a good option then I would vote for smaller more proportional ones being done before the large/huge ones. Ohh, and please let us choose how much neck fur/feather/whatever there is. Looking through CoH's options that is a bigger gripe to me.

One think that was never entered into City of Heroes were plain and simple opera gloves. They had the witch version but it didn't fit the bill as it was elaborate as opposed to simple basics.
opera gloves are standard basic hero costuming options.

for that matter they never had any long dress/gowns either. I wonder if that caused animation problems.

Due to how the animation skeletons and rigging worked in City of Heroes, they basically couldn't get away with anything "skirt-ish" hanging below the knees. Reason being that as soon as the character needed to run, you'd wind up with all kinds of horrendous clipping issues of the knees+ lower legs moving THROUGH the longer skirt as if it wasn't even there. Limitation of the game engine they were using.

A few costumes in CoH you could make the appearence of long gloves. I think the wedding set had something that could function, same as some of the patterns w/skin options could make it seem like you had long gloves on.

Anyway opera and/or long gloves should definitely be a thing we have in CoT.

Long skirts in CO and LOTRO are fundamentally pants with very wide legs, that look like skirts when you're not moving.

Don't know if it'd be a costume, or animation, or what but it'd be neat if you could make a character that looks like they're inside like, goo, energy, or what have you.

Having the energy/goo/whatever able to touch the floor and stuff with the character suspended within it.

Even if it's connected to certain costume pieces like the holographic armor of CO would still be kinda neat

The trouble with it being a power animation is you likely wouldn't be suspended in the effect.

Having translucent costume pieces that have the appearance of having a body suspended in them would work also, like a silhouette that looks like it's inside it.

Could also work for mysterio style fishbowl helmets and the like.

Ignore the elf and look at the outfit, Love it! This just screams magic user. Not everything needs to be spandex. The vest is wonderful! This is all so 17th/18th century.

Her jacket is awesome. If you aren't sure which her...it's the one you're looking at. I like the little thigh holster/pouches. It's those little details that help you understand the world they live in and tell the story. Lets not avoid those details. The aesthetic of the scene is really great.

AND THE HAT. In that down position is wonderful.

I've been reading a lot of Fantasy/litRPG lately.
