"I meant her." Toni pointed to the dancing items on the stage. "I was trying to restrain Tyler, cause I couldn't think of a way to break whatever hold was on him. She did. Who were you thinking of?"
Foradain, Mage of Phoenix Rising.
Millennium City RefugeeForadain's Character Conclave
She eyes Misty with a slight smirk.
"I was referencing Connor, but the point I was trying to get to is out of all of them, Tyler seemed to be the most reluctant to even begin to fight...whereas Talia and Lance enjoyed it."
"Never argue with stupid people; they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."
"Exactly. Whoever had him under control didn't stop him from warning us. Misty broke the control, but we still don't know who put it on him in the first place." Toni tried to think of anyone he knew of with powers like that. Nothing came to mind.
Rose pondered the same thing as she wondered aloud.
"Talia said something about Kyle letting them have a bit of fun. You don't think that Coleman's behind this?"
"Kyle?!?!" Toni exclaimed. "That's comple-"
Toni broke off with an odd look on his face.
Rose looked at Toni for a long moment.
"I mean it's Kyle we're talking about here, he has near to no brain cells."
"What if he's being manipulated like Tyler was? He'd be near defensless... But that still doesn't answer the question of who, it just adds another victim to the list. Unless he's a way better actor than I think he is."
Toni was shotgunning, throwing out ideas and see how far they got...
She drifted over "Not really. I knew people who lacked brain smarts but were master manipulators... I should know I dated one."
Personal rules of good roleplay
1.) Nothing goes as planned.
2.) If it goes as planned it's not good RP
Rose nods at that before resolving.
"Whatever he is, it seems that Kyle is in charge, but we can't just accuse him of this, right?"
Toni nodded also. "We need evidence, at least, and proof would be better. All we have now are vague suspicions."
"I could try to take him over. I had a very hard time with what's his name, the power was stunning. So if Kyle really is the focus I wouldn't be able to, even if he let me in trying to fake it I still will sense the power of his will and know it."
Portia looked over at Natalia and contemplated lying, but then remembered her Mom counseling her on trying to make friends. "Yes, I'm fine. I... just have this thing about electricity."
She looked back towards her locker and when she spoke again, her voice was softer. "When I was much younger, I had an... encounter with a swarm of electric eels. I was shocked so badly that my heart stopped. Fortunately, Mom found me and was able to revive me. Since then, I've had a moderate case of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder involving electric shock. I've worked hard to overcome it so that I can function in normal day-to-day life, but I still suffer from trauma triggers. Like an electrokineticist screaming about turning me into fried calamari..."
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
Natalia blinks at the story, and urges Portia to sit onto a nearby bench, before replying slowly in response, her face moving from impassive to caring, compassionate.
"I understand how you feel, Portia. Despite being a vampire I detest the sight of blood and corpses, it took years to get me accustomed to the idea of hunting and killing other creatures, and even then it's difficult." She stops suddenly, wanting to say more but her voice fades, whatever memory the statement dreged up is too painful to confront, evident as her face twists into a agonizing expression. Despite this, her tone is soft but firm as she reiterates.
"I will not allow harm to come to you Portia, I swear it."
Rose takes a moment to consider Misty's proposition before finally answering.
"We should wait before doing so, for now we need to gather a bit more evidence before we try anything so rash. If Kyle suspects anything is amiss or that we are up to something, it could have unwanted consequences."
Setzer meowed a bit, and Toni translated, "Setzer could follow him around, but he's fairly sure his cover as A Perfectly Ordinary Cat is blown."
Rose takes a moment to ponder that before replying.
"Then perhaps Setzer could keep watch on him out of school, but sparingly? Or Misty, would you like to monitor him?"
Portia looked over at Natalia and smiled slightly. "Thank you. You're a good frie... hold on, did you say vampire? And what was that about hunting and killing? What are you involved in, Natalia?" she asked, involuntarily drawing back a few inches.
"Okay I could spy on him. I be careful too, there seems to be a whole lot of medium in this school."
Connor wanders over to those still present in the auditorium, un-ruffling his hair from the affair a bit as he reaches them. "I'll tag along with Misty. I'm still on Stage Manager's lead, and nothing needs to be done right this moment." He pulls out his phone, as if double-checking that fact, then puts it back with a nod. "...I do some investigating in my spare time. If there's anything to tie together, I can probably do that." He pauses, nodding sideways towards Misty. "Plus we're both invisible when we want to be."
Natalia sighs at this, looking sadly at Portia's response to her words.
"Yes, I am a vampire. Do not worry, I can control my urges, and I do not actively feed on humans or animals. As for killing, it's more complicated then you think. I work much like the hero who was presented today, Shepard, in dispatching supernatural creatures that prey on the innocent. Demons, ghouls, zombies, rabid werewolves and vampires, but only when no other alternative is presented." She takes a moment to look down, adding.
"I can understand if you don't want to remain around me, due to this." Her voice has since lost it's confidence and bravado.
"Following Kyle outside of school should be safe enough. The school's wards make shadowwalking difficult for Setzer unless he's staying in the same room." Toni looked at Connor and the vague shape that was all he could see of Misty. "Perhaps the three of you could work together?"
"What? No, I was just surprised is all. But that does help to explain one thing that had been confusing me. Y'see, one of the things my hydrokinesis lets me do is detect water. I can sense as little as a drop in a desert, but I couldn't sense as much as normal in you. Now I know why." Portia said with a quick and decisive nod.
She then stood up and looked down at the vampire. "Do you swim, Natalia?"
Liberty Girl shook Principal Ellis's hand. "No sweat. As for the staff position, it's something I'll have to consider."
Natalia blinks in surprise at Portia's acceptance of her, and smiles for a long moment before replying thoughtfully.
"No, I've never swam before. I never had the need to, or taken a vacation where it was an option, the mission came first."
Portia giggled. "You seem surprised by my acceptance. I was surprised when you told me what you are because you seem so normal. Other than that lack of body water thing."
The mer-girl's mouth dropped open a little bit. "You've never swam? Well, that's just something that's going to have to change, this instant. Here, put this on." Portia commanded, pulling a second swimsuit from her locker. This one was nearly a clone of the first, but it was sea green.
Natalia smiled at Portia's words, happy to find a friend, before gawking at the neon outfit of death.
" I am happy to have found a friend in you then, Portia." She then adds, half serious. "You sure you don't have that in red?"
Within one of the science labs of the school there is a man pacing around. His slightly gangly appearance partially detracts from the frazzled hairstyle which he owes his nickname "Beekman" to. If only to rub salt into the wounds, eyesight was never one of his gifts and he sports a pair of hipster-esque glasses (cirque 1940s). Ze children.. alvays lauving at me..ZEY VILL FEEL MEIN WRATH! he thinks to himself, hunched over giggling with glee before assuming a more appropriate posture as the next bell rings. He runs over to the board and erases the crudely drawn schematics for whatever on earth he's planning and quickly writes up an explanation on Vectors.

"Oh I take first Watch!" Misty as impulsively as she can be flew off to search for Kyle. All the while humming the Mission Impossible theme.
Connor shrugs as Misty flies off. "In that case, I suppose I'll put myself on investigative duty. Anyone know his locker number? Seems like a good place to start."
"Mreeoow!" said Setzer, nodding his head. He trotted off, occasionally looking back to see if Connor was following him.
"Yeah. I'm coming. I'm coming," Connor said as he strode behind the cat at a more casual pace, "jeez, all cats are the same, dead or alive," he comments under his breath to himself, letting the cat take him down the halls, "not sure if I could handle you and Locke at once..."
"2233." Is the answer the groups receive, from a stoic appearing and sharp toned Madison Groves, who rests her designer stark brown handbag against a auditorium seat and adding with a clipping, but rawer tone.
"I don't know what you expect to find, but you ingrates seem to have a way to make things work out." She sighs in genuine disinterest as she adds. "And thank you, I suppose for disrupting the assembly and our peace of mind, and saving our lives, I suppose." She chides.
Connor waves behind him at Madison's voice as he makes his way out. "Got it," he says, just before disappearing out into the hallway behind the feline.
Setzer went a bit faster in the halls, perhaps because Connor would have better line of sight, and perhaps because he heard Madison telling him the locker number. Up the stairs to the second floor, then leaping up to the top of one row of lockers... Setzer stopped on top of locker 2231 and leaned out as if getting ready to pounce on something.
"Thanks, Madison," said Toni. This may have been the first time since they met that Toni voluntarily used her preferred name...
Connor shoves his hands in his pockets, looking both ways for any peering eyes. Seeing none, he pulls a hand from his pocket, and lightly taps the combination lock on the locker. It snaps open with a subtle golden spark flying outwards from the lock, and Connor removes it before pulling open the locker.
"...Right. Let's see what we've got here."
Inside the locker Connor would see a typical assortment of effects inside a high school idiot's locker: textbooks, extra football mouth guards, a few unopened wrappers of of food, and sweaty shorts. However, he would immediately note that there is the buzz of dark magic once more circulating in the area, as the locker suddenly slams shut with supernatural force.
Opening it again via spells may not be the best idea, and there may be consequences now.
Madison simply hmmphs in reply to Toni's expression of gratitude, conveying notes of understanding and dismissal. Shaking her head, she inquires sharply.
"And I saw what you all did, fighting Kyle's...pack. What. are. you people?" She demands, clearly standing her ground on the issue and not about to be talked down. Rose sighs at this, not about to lie if it means they could eventually open Madison up as a friend.
"I'm a witch Madison, I suppose my species is homo arcani, and a voodoo priestess on my father's side." Madison simply glares her down for a long moment before dissenting. "I figured you were something worse and uglier, but I rest my case." Rose simply shakes her head with a smirk, as she interprets Madison version of accepting her.
Connor immediately whips around as the locker slams shut, looking up and down the hallway warily. "...Hello?" He calls out after a moment, small, subtle blue flames sparking to life at the very edges of his fingertips, "is someone there?"
After a moment's pause, he shuts his eyes, then opens them again as they glow with the same unearthly blue. He looks up and down the hallway, pulling his hood over his head as he looks for anything unusual.
Alicia, whom had been sitting quietly for the majority of the other group's conversation, watches Madison for a moment before speaking. "I am a superhuman," she replies simply, and without any emotion.
Misty was searching for Kyle she didn't know what class he had so she was buzzing them all. Well until she ran into the wards around the magic classes "AGhhhh" she flipped backwards by the force. "I really need to be careful of those." Well back to the search so she floated outside the classroom and peaked into the windows. "Oh where, oh where could he be."
Setzer leaned over and sniffed the locker, getting the scent of the magic. Next time he encountered it, he would recognize it.
Toni said, "I'm about one-sixteenth elf, an instinctive conjuror, and apprentice mage-knight, or you could say mage-squire."
Connor would note that aside from Setzer upon the locker near him, nothing seems to stand out. Misty would be able to sense or recall that Kyle is still in the detention/power supression room.
Madison sneers at that, before inquiring, with what seems to be genuine concern and more evidently, anger.
"Right, well did you superhumans and magical freaks ever consider the idea that your presence is why this happened?! And even if it wasn't, what do you think would have happened if it wasn't for Bitchibal Ellis. How do you think us 'normals' feel living day in and day out next to homicidal magnets!?"
Rose starts to Madison as if she was to strike her, but stops as she considers Madison's words, and furthermore, the haughty girl's flinch as she raised her hand. Blinking in shock and shame, Rose attempts to speak or apologize before Madison cuts her off with a tone that causes her to take several steps back.
"Save it you little hexing bitch. Not. Another. Word." They would note that the girl's voice and body, despite her usual confident composure, is slightly trembling. Rose simply casts her eyes downward, realizing in a moment of brutal epiphany why Madison always uses extra concealer, how she seems placidly submissive in Kyle's presence, agreeing with whatever he says...
Madison can see the gears turning in Rose's head, revealing that she displayed too much, that others would quickly figure out her plight, her weakness. With one last look at the cruel image of one of Rose's hands clasped in Toni's, she roughly brushes past the couple and out of the auditorium without a word, not caring that she left her designer brown handbag on the seat near them.
Connor watches quietly as the cat sniffs at the locker, and he immediately flicks his hand, extinguishing the flames on his fingertips as he eyes return to normal. He bends down into a squatting position as the cat finishes, propping his arms on his knees.
"Hey. Cat. If you can smell that stuff, why don't we scout around and see if you can smell any more of it, yeah?"
Alicia narrows her gaze at Madison's outburst, clenching her hands quietly as the angry girl speaks. How do you think us 'normals' feel living day in and day out next to homicidal magnets!?
She takes a moment to compose herself as Madison storms out, then looks over at the handbag that had been left on the chair. Quietly, and rather slowly, she stands, picking up the handbag before walking towards the same exit that Madison had turned to take, hoping to catch up to her and return it.
Madison is found not far from the exit, sitting within the shadows of a wall along the hallway, wordlessly gently snatching the bag from Alicia's grasp. Eyeing the satchel for a moment, she simply tosses it to the side of her as she rasps out words that she has struggled to say with genuine sincerity for years, her voice weak from silent crying.
Alicia stands there quietly for a few moments, her tense, somewhat angry posture slowly subsiding upon seeing the other girl's emotional state. She closes her eyes, and lets out a long, drawn-out sight before looking down at Madison once more.
"...Not all of us want to be like this," Alicia finally says, her voice rather quiet, despite the hallway being empty during class-time, "normalcy is just as much of a privilege to some."
Dennis was still walking the halls ,his arms folded, as he was eating on his food, and moved his hands into his pocket ,stopping when he got to Madison and Alicia, his hand moving from his pocket as he rubbed his forehead, where he was head butted.
"Everything alright with you two?"
Note: Jorortis is still a character of mine and is still going to be in the super group, not Demirus, at least not yet...
Madison simply sighs herself before replying with revealing insight and honesty.
"And how often does it seem that way? We are becoming statistics more and more every day; it feels like we're just dominoes: how many of us a hero can save over the one's they can't like a fraction, or how many poor saps a villain can lay in the ground until the police arrive."
Madison sneers in regards to Dennis's question, practically hissing an a attempt to drive him off.
"Get lost." She remarks, remembering the incident with Marcus not two hours ago as she regards Dennis's presence, the source of her current venom towards him.
Then it dawned on her. "Detention room, that's right it had a ward on it as well... hmm. CONNOR!" She flew down the hallway when she got near she slowed down "Kyle's in the Detention suppression room! How could he be the one that triggered the attack?"
Dennis looked at her and let out a sigh."Don't say I didn't try and help.'' He turned his attention to Alicia.'What about you? You alright?
Connor furrows his brow, and shakes his head. "If that thing is built for magical suppression, then he couldn't," he says, furrowing his brow as gears start turning in his head. He looks down at the cat by his feet, and motions to it before looking back up at Misty. "This fellow can apparently smell some of the stuff. I'll get Locke and Nobb down here as well, and the four of us can start looking around to see what we can find. In the meantime, see if you can canvas some of the magical students and see if they know anything. Magicians, mediums, anyone that can see you."
Alicia raises a hand, turning and looking at it as it flares up with blue energy, as if contemplating it. "Most of us do it because we feel we have some sort of responsibility to everyone that do not have such abilities," she says after a moment, "for if they had such powers, they would surely use it to protect themselves. Others do it because they have something to hide, or because they want to right past wrongs that they have done." She lowers her hand, and the energy fades away. "But even so, with some of us, with such gains also comes loss." She closes her eyes, sighing slightly before continuing.
"I will confess that you are not the only one that is somewhat...Jealous of what Rose and Toni have," she says, opening her eyes again, "if I were to fall in love, and fail to regulate my thoughts, it is possible that an uncontrolled release of emotion could result in an energy discharge that could harm those around me. Just as normal people make sacrifices in order to keep themselves going, so must we, even if such a sacrifice is something so centric to our being as the loss of emotion."
She reaches down with her hand calmly, as if offering to help Madison get back to her feet. "And those sacrifices include who we must save. There are only so many of us, and we perform an effort that is ultimately futile. No single person, or group of people, is capable of saving everyone. This realization has driven many insane, and brought despair to more still. Just as normal people hold the burden of their powerlessness in the light of those stronger than them, heroes must hold the burden of knowing that they will never be powerful enough. No matter how strong you are, this is a constant." She smiles, ever so slightly. "No matter how powerful you are, it is a Human trait to do the best with what you have. True strength is making the most of your potential. Through that viewpoint, you may be just as powerful as I, should you choose to be."
She turns as Dennis approaches and greets them, and her smile instantly disappears, her expression returning to her stern neutrality instead. "I am fine. Madison merely needs a few moments to compose herself."
Setzer nodded, and went along the halls, sniffing for traces of that magic, or any magic cast by the same entity. As he found them, he would alert Connor to them, and make a mental note to tell his squire. It was a shame that so few humans could understand his speech without magical aid.
Toni watched Madison storm off, and saw a flicker of recognition in Rosella's eyes. He, too, made a mental note, to ask Rose about this when there were not so many ears present.
"Got it." Dennis turned and went on about his own business walking away and turning down the hall dropped onto the wall in somewhat discomfort that turned into the worst pain in his life, his right hand grasping his wrist as bone jutted from his arm uncontrollably ,but he was able to hide his pain playing it off as something that he was doing intentionaly.
Madison blinked at the display of light before her, as she soaked in Alicia's powerful and thoughtful words for a long moment before replying, her voice unguarded, and without it's clipping tone she usually carries.
"I never thought of it that way, it's easier to judge others when we're not in their positions, I suppose. And love is stupid, uplifting, filling, and often tragic. I don't love or like Kyle, and you have a point in the fact that you are as powerful as you choose." With that said, she grabs onto Alicia's hand and pulls herself up swiftly, adding.
"Uhm, thank you for this Alicia, I guess. I've never had anyone take that much time to speak to me, not because they have to or even reveal themselves to me. It's...a welcome feeling." With that, she sighs before adding, almost reluctantly, with her sharp tone returning.
"And we will never be speaking of this, again." She affirms, already back into her element. However, before sauntering off to Miss Hall's, she trades Alicia a cordial and genuine smile.
Rose takes a moment to eye Toni, before gingerly moving to sit down on the edge of the stage near the Orchestra and Band pit, leading Toni to sit beside her as she rests her head against his chest, whispering quietly so only they may hear.
"Kyle is physically abusing Madison, and I didn't see the signs earlier. I feel stupid Toni, and angry." She hisses the last word, clenching her left fist repeatedly before adding quietly. "She has a rough life, and we should do something about it."
Alicia, although briefly, takes a moment to smile back. "If you say so. Let me know if there is anything else on your mind."
Toni considered. "Two things I can think of right off the bat. One is that making sure he can't catch her alone is not likely to work, not without 24/7 surveillance on one or the other of them. The other is that she feels helpless, and while I might not be able to do much about that, I bet Colonel Donovan can, or knows someone who can."
Madison can't help but slightly smirk back.
"I will." With that she slips into the Drama Room.
Rose growls as she replies with dryly, in all seriousness.
"Or hex him, render him sterile or something damning." Her expression is cute as is her tone as she blushes. "Misty may be rubbing off on me a tiny bit, but those are good ideas, why not practice both." She states before adding.
"I could stay with Madison out of school when possible, maybe we could take her to the mall or to our houses to hang out. She did seem to express some interest in the dojo, so hopefully she'll enroll."
She sighs before stating quietly.
"I hate this Toni, it's not fair, but magic can't solve this Issue, as much as I'd want to turn Kyle into a jackass, hooves and all."
"If he is a lycanthrope, it would probably only last until he went wolf. You're right, this is going to take a lot of work, and magic will only help so much." Toni thought for a bit again. "She probably wouldn't appreciate you having told me about this. But it might be a good idea if you let her have our cell phone numbers, just in case. She doesn't have to know I suggested it."
Rose nods as she replies thoughtfully.
"I'll placidly suggest it Toni, it'd be a good idea, and we could take her to our house for drama reheasals or studying. And on that note, I don't think he's a lycanthrope, he probably wouldn't have been able to contain his human features during getting his nose broken."
Misty crossed her arms and looked at the Locker. "Maybe he's not the source, but a focus. A tool oh he's thinks he's in charge. Just like a druggie think they got it under control, but is just a pawn for a drug dealer. Er.. naw don't want to think me and him have anything in common. Someone using him like they are using those other students. Granting them power but manipulating them all even Kyle? That would fit Kyle himself is just a higher ranking puppet the leader of this group, but not the Head alpha."
"Either way, if we're going to do this, let's do it correctly," Connor says, furrowing his brows further as he continued to think, "the last thing we want when it comes to this sort of thing is False Assumptions. That sort of thing could derail our search at best, and get someone hurt at worst." As he speaks, two ghosts, a smoking cat with its fur standing on end, and a dripping-wet rat that trailed a ghostly shadow of water behind it, phase through two nearby lockers. The rat sniffs the floor, head darting back and forth as it goes, while the cat calmly, and perhaps a touch dismissively, looks at its living counterpart, before its calm eyes dart upwards towards Misty.
Connor snaps his fingers, then wags one in thought at Misty. "You know what would be faster than simply poking around and asking people and seeing if we can find that energy again? We get Toni and Rose to extend their senses at opposite ends of the school, sense in as far as they can, I'll cover the middle, and if there's anywhere you can't reach, lead these three and see if they find anything. That should give us a start at the very least." Connor nods, then looks back at the locker. "There was nothing in there, but there was some force that didn't appreciate me poking around in there, regardless. Once we find it, and maybe its source, we'll have something to go on, Kyle or not."
"I don't know where I can't go until I kind of slam into it. I tried the detention room, then the magic classrooms. Both I had no idea they repel me till I whack my head against the wall. For a ghost that got used to just going anywhere that came as a shock." She started to float upside down "A real twist on my reality. So I would have to do some kind of grid thing, on top of that if that entity that was in the locker moves. It be like playing Battleship where someone keeps moving the pieces."
Then her eyes widen almost cartoonish like. She returns to upright "OH wait, why was it in Kyle's locker? It couldn't get to kyle himself! Like Peter Pan's shadow it's cut off from him. What if it's like me and can't get past the wards. So it got angry nudge the others to attack like a spoiled brat throwing a temper. Then it came here knowing that it's safe and Kyle will come here."
"If it can't get through Wards what we need is wards we can move one that could cover the whole school then close into a smaller and smaller place. Trapping it. Of course if I'm wrong and wards have no effect then... oh well."
"Well, if he had more self control than I've seen from him, he might be able to. But you're right; it's not likely." Toni opened up his algebra book and frowned at the thirteen extra problems he had to solve, one for each minute he had been late. "While we wait for more information, I'm gonna get started on these."
After a few more painful minutes it all stopped and his body had returned to normal, his bone going back inside his arm, and the skin sealed back over them and he got up and walked back to the rest of the group noticing Madison was gone he asked someone..''So...is everything alright with her?"
Connor holds up his hands and waves them back and forth. "I think you're getting a little bit ahead of yourself, there," he says, lowering one hand and rubbing the back of his head with the other, "remember, let's get something concrete to go off of first, and then we can speculate, alright? Now, if there are no further thoughts, I'll go tell the others what the plan is and see if they'll be up for it.
Alicia takes a moment to compose herself, then looks over at Dennis with her usual, blank expression. "I am not sure. I hope that she will be fine, yet at the same time, I have the feeling that it may take more time than I had thought for her to feel more open towards others. There is something wrong, I can tell, but she does not wish to express it."
Rose nods with a sigh as she sees the dreaded algebra problems, as it is no secret she despises the subject, displayed as she offered.
"If only there was a spell for this, life would be mostly alright." She murmurs quietly, before opting to draw her French binder from her bag and beginning to write a rough draft in the language instead of working on the equations, quickly losing herself in her writing, before adding in regards to Kyle's state.
"He must have a great amout of it if he has kept it under wraps for this long, not to mention some tactical skills if he does lead the pack, for lack of a better term." She then adds amidst sccribling her second body paragraph.
"And there are plenty of other creatures he could possibly be, efreeti, a loa, though I doubt that, a shade of some sort, perhaps a shadowbeast?" Toni would note that when Rose begins to ramble, the creases of her forehead press together cutely and her lips form a intriguing line, and the grip of her left hand within Toni's squeezes a bit, gently. The gentleness of her hand matches her tone as she inquires amidst still writing daintly.
"Too many. Any of about a dozen types of fae, although Setzer would have smelled that before now, or something from native American lore, like a skinwalker... Or just something unique."
Toni talked even as his left hand scrawled out steps in the solutions. It wasn't pretty, but he could read it, and planned on rewriting it later. His right hand, though still in Rose's left, was far too busy now.
Shepherd stood there for a while til he decided to leave after doing what he needed.
"In the end there can be only one" The Highlander
Portia shook her head with a smirk and tossed the suit to Natalia. She removed the device from her neck, placed it in her locker, and then headed towards the door. "I'll meet you out at the pool."
Once she was out by the water, she silently thanked whoever had come up with the idea to use runes to keep the water clean as opposed to chlorine. Chlorinated water made her gills itch like fire. She stepped up onto the diving board and dove in. Anyone watching would now realize that she was in her natural element as she swam about with a speed and grace matched only by dolphins.
Rose is silent for moment as she begins to write the conclusion to her essay in Francais, before replying quietly.
"Perhaps we could use a combination of our investigation into Kyle and heading to the Central Library to find out just what he is, and what is going on? And on that note, should we bring Madison into this, the investigation I mean?" She takes a moment to eye her phone, which buzzes with the arrival of a text.
"Oh, and Mom wants to meet you tomorrow, as well as your familiar? What time is good for you?" She asks as if it is a completely normal question.
Natalia seems absolutely perturbed at wearing something lighter then rich scarlet, but nonetheless changes into the suit within the restroom adjacent to the pool area. With her fiery auburn hair in a high ponytail behind her, Natalia carries her ever alluring presence as she gingerly approaches the water.
Eyeing Portia's grace and fluidity under the water in the manner that a fledgling artist would watch the strokes of Picasso, she resolves to place her legs into the water near the five feet marker. Stirring the liquid canvas between the digits of her combat utilized yet unscarred feet, she calls out when the mer-girl resurfaces.
"You're like a nereid from the Odyssey." She compliments before stating without the edge of confidence in her voice, embarrassed.
"I cannot swim Portia, and to see you swim like that..." She trails off, before shaking her head, her Eastern European accent lacing her every word like the light lower notes of a cello.
"I'm pathetic." She admits, clearly used to sentiment.
"Ah. As it happens, my Dad wants to meet you and your Mom as well. Maybe dinner at our condo at around seven?"
"We can see what we can find out at the Library, sure." Toni was certain that was a good idea. But he had to think a bit more about Madison. "If Madison wants to help, I wouldn't turn her down. But will she want to investigate Kyle? Does she still think of him as her boyfriend?"
Connor makes his way back into the auditorium after meeting Misty in the hallway, hands in his pockets as he gives the room a once-over, before striding over to the two talking near a more complete section of chairs.
"Misty and I figure that Kyle isn't our man," he says, his gaze growing slightly more stern and contemplative as he takes a moment to think before continuing, "if anything, he's being manipulated by that force that we felt after the confrontation, but whether it's against his will or not is something that we don't know yet. When I went up there to check on his locker, there wasn't anything abnormal about it, but that same force slammed it shut, as if it didn't want me in its business." He pauses, pulling his hood off of his head before continuing. "Misty noted that he's in the Containment Room, so that force has to be separate from him. Alternatively, Misty raised the idea that it's some sort of independent power under his control, like...A dog, I guess, to draw that comparison, but I don't think that's all that likely. Regardless, I say our first step is locating that." He pauses again, raising his hands and starting to make gestures as he continues to talk.
"What I'm thinking we should do is have you two stand at opposite ends of the school, with me in the middle. We'll extend our senses to see what we can find, and whatever areas we can't reach, Misty, my familiars, and Toni's familiar can cover either as separate parties, or together." His gaze relaxes slightly, returning to one of calm boredom. "I know I might be laying a lot on you two at the moment, but I think that you two know as well as I do that this is a...Problem. And we should take care of it."
"Okay, enough self-pity. Into the water!" Portia commanded, her beautiful blue-eyed gaze now hard and unyielding.
Setzer came in behind Connor, and nodded sagely. But Toni shook his head. "Just because he was in lockdown doesn't mean he couldn't have given instructions beforehand. But your idea seems worth a try."
He took out his tablet and brought up a map of the school.
Connor shakes his own head. "Highly unlikely, when you think about it. Unless he's precognitive, he wouldn't have a way of knowing that I was going to open his locker. Not only that, but if he didn't want people to catch on to what he was doing, he'd just leave nothing incriminating in there and call it a day, rather than having some sort of...'Dark Magic Security System' watching over his locker." He angles himself to get a better look at the map of the school on Toni's tablet. "Not to mention that that force appeared the first time after the fight had come to a close and Kyle was sent to the Lockup. Even if you ignore the fact that both appearances happened when Kyle was in the detention room, I don't think they'd be pre-set, or based on instruction, when you take their timing into account: one appeared after the fight was brought to a premature close, and the other appeared after I started poking around." Connor appears to be getting someone excited. "It's not a stationary trap, it's reactive."
He pauses, then takes a moment to clear his throat before looking back at the map. "...I investigate in my spare time."
Rose smiles wide at the prospect of spending more time with Toni, nodding happily in reply to his inquiry for the condo visit. However, at the answer to involving Madison and Connor's arrival, she states promptly.
"Then in that case it would be better to ask her in person the next time we see her. And that sounds like a good idea Connor, but for me to be really effective I'm going to need powder or chalk to draw a pentagram, so I can perform a traditional spell. Chili powder or anything you could try to conjure would work Toni."
Natalia stands slowly at that, bracing herself for the anticipated cold but then recalling that she's braved worse environments, and with that in mind she jumps into the water without a second thought to slow her down.
When she resurfaces, with her fiery auburn hair framing her head like a corona, stating afterwards.
"Well, that could have been much worse." However, Portia would note while she is managing to stay afloat without trouble, she isn't daring to move.
Dennis was still with the main chunk of students."Well what can I do to help? I mean, I know I cant read minds ,or contact the dead but..." Dennis paused for a moment before figuring out he was just as useless as any of the other student who couldn't do those things and just let his statements trail off.
Toni was confused for a moment. "Ah, I thought you were thinking about the skirmish here. I thought Kyle was in the detention room then."
For Rose's request, conjuring something wouldn't help, if she were to be towards the opposite end of the school. So he tried a summoning spell, to bring something he already owned from his supplies at home. A moment later a canister of iodized salt was in his hands. "Will this do?" he asked Rose.
Rose grins at the sight of the salt, kissing Toni in gratitude before taking it and standing, stating.
"Alright, I believe the spell I am intending to do would be more effective at the centerpoint or nexus of the school, which would be the courtyard." With a flick of her left wrist, her brown and emerald rune embrodiarded 'pocket' grimoire appears within her hand in a verdant flash.
Misty hovered behind Connor. "I don't know, I mean there some major spiritual essence about... Technically speaking we are kind of standing on the site where I died. Why do you think I hang around a school. It's literally my Haunting grounds. So will these wards and such mess me up?"
"No wards just yet, Misty, just detection," Connor responds, still looking at the map, " we wouldn't want to snuff you out by accident, after all." He looks up at Rose as she states her locational preference, and nods. "You take the middle, then. I'll take one of the ends instead."
Rose thought for a moment as she turns to Misty, before speaking promptly.
"Possibly. I believe the wards in place are intended to block all potential malevolent entities from entering that said room. I believe I could get you a sort of mystical waiver via a spell, but my magical level is intermediate at best."
"This is part of that whole find a means of making me corporeal again bla bla bla... right? After all if there some magic charm that would let me interact with non Mediums and touch things it wouldn't be to hard to have the wards accept me like a student." She thought about the reason the wards are there "That and to keep miss cast spells in. Don't want some missed fired curse hitting an unprepared student."
"And I'll be on the other, with Setzer covering the gap between me and Rose." Toni picked up his pack, then thought of something. "Anyone else got a phone handy?" He pulled out his.
"Yeah, I've got one," Connor says, pulling his out of his pocket, "exchanging numbers is a good idea." He then looks up at Misty after unlocking his phone and scrolling to his Contacts. "We'd still have to figure something out in that regard. Maybe in the meantime, we can find some sort of illusionary work-around until we come up with a proper way of giving you the real deal."
"It depends wholly on what you want to do, Misty." Rose answers as she pulls out her own phone, exchanging her number with Connor since Toni already possesses it.
Toni read off his own number. "774-286-1107...Yeah, Misty, step one is to figure out if you want it. Don't worry to much if we skip ahead to step two or three, figuring out how and what problems there might be. We wouldn't actually do anything unless you gave us the go-ahead."
"And Dennis, if whatever this is notices us trying to track it, it may manifest and react violently. If you could be ready in case it does..."
"Well I'm not all that good at making choices. Wouldn't be dead before college if I was any good at it. Not like it's permanent right, I could undo it or take of whatever magical thingy and I be back to my normal specter self? wait.. that starting to sound like the pitch of a drug dealer. Not like you can't quit whenever want. Okay but I would so want an expert adult to tell me if it's possible and such. Right now no offence, but a lot of bad things happen when teens try magic."
Rose smiles as she replies to Misty, pocketing the container of salt.
"None taken Misty, and while I trust my abilities I'd also feel better if a expert magic user performed the spell. And even then we could work out clauses and conditions you would want before then, so it doesn't sound like a closed pitch, if you will?"
She then turns to Dennis, nodding in approval of his role.
"You'd be the best suited for containing or at the worst fighting it should it take a larger or more destructive form. But please try not to cause collateral damage, it would be rather damning on our records."
"Remember, however, that there are a few rules on that sort of thing that I have to enforce, specifically," Connor says with a slightly-raised eyebrow, "that said, if there are any loopholes, so to speak, I might be able to overlook one or two before I have to plug them."
He then reads off his phone number. "555-194-1647. Now if we've all got those, we should start."
Rose smiles to Connor, thanking the boy with a warm and cordial hug, hoping to get a smile out of the usually serious Wicket Door.
"Thanks Connor, we'll keep that in mind when the time comes. And if that is settled, should we begin mon amis?"
"You're telling me not a single one of you damned people knew what started this? Honestly, what kind of institution do you run if some super-powered punk can catch everyone by surprise? I WILL be reconsidering that advanced tech lab, Mr. Superintendent, just so you know. Now good day!"
*SLAM* went the phone in the limo of Nicholas Night himself, a sharp grin forming as the driver pulled into James Duncan High.
"And father said acting classes were a waste..." he says to himself as he picks up the phone and dials the school's principal.
"Yes, I understand there was an incident?"
"...Mmhmm.. I'd like to personally inspect the damage as well as meet with the ones who fought off the mavericks."
"No need. I'm in the parking lot right now."
To say Principal Ellis's tone was cold across the phone was an understatement as she slid the device back into it's holding with a click. Pinching the bridge of her nose with a sigh, she growls amidst tapping into the intercom.
"Rosella Burdelon, Anthony Mercer, Connor Gateman, Natalia Volin, Alicia Crane, and Dennis Cain please report to the conference room within the Front Office." She orders firmly.
Natalia blinks as she hears her name called from the intercom, but nonetheless steps out of the pool and changes into her aforementioned clothing after drying herself. With that done, she beckons to Portia as she grabs her bag.
"You were most likely intended in the message as well, seeing how you were attacked. Coming?" She inquires, before heading off to the office.
Rose also seems curious about the inquiry, noting that they were all present in the attack, and reluctantly shoulders her bag, tossing the salt inside as she speaks to Toni and Connor.
"Principal Ellis usually calls us into her office, which means this must be a different or related matter." With her right hand clasped in Toni's, she sets off for the conference room when her friends and boyfriend is ready.
"Great deduction Sherlock. Either it is or it isn't." She laughs "Well lets go see what's up." Misty drifted down the hallway heading for the office.
