Natalia nods at that, clear genuine interest shown as she inquires.
"May I ask what this job is...and do you not want it?"
"Never argue with stupid people; they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."
"Well, that was it, earlier," he says, gesturing vaguely, "pulling spirits back and forth between here and the afterlife, taking care of those that like to kill and otherwise screw with the system...That sort of thing." Connor pauses to sip his coffee again, and shrug. "It's got an official 'title,' apparently, the Wicket Door. A ghost gave me a more accurate summary once, they just called me Death's Paperboy. As for whether or not I want it, well...Yes, and no. Yes, in the sense that helping people is always worth doing, I suppose, but No in the sense that I'm not entirely sure I was the right person for this job."
Natalia nods in reply as she internally ponders why she hasn't heard of the title herself.
"I see, so in essence aiding spirits and preventing needless and heinous death? And what do you mean you don't believe your the right person for the job?" She inquires incredulously, clearly believing the exact opposite.
Connor flaps his arms casually. "Noodle arms," he responds plainly, as if that were the end of it. "I can cheat a bit as a ghost or by using magic to throw myself around, but I'm not much for stamina."
Natalia can't help but smirk at the display, as she counters with a smile.
"And? I possess no real inkling of magical talent that I know of and I am still an effective protector of the living, you wouldn't have been chosen to guard the dead as well had you not been capable. I believe the only person who has doubts of your qualification for your position is you, Connor, I surely don't." She offers him a smile as she offers.
"But if you would like, in addition to the fitness training we will be given within this mentorship program, would you like to train with me to develop those said flimsy muscles?"
"Like us dead spirits need physical help." Misty came up behind Connor and 'BOOOooo... wait I should have done that before saying the comment about needing help. Well it's true thought we don't need muscles we need Brains to figure out why we are stuck here... bla bla bla uplifting you have meaning stuff." She shrugs "Guess you aren't the only one a bit loopy from a long night Wicky Door." Her face took on a depressed expression as she looked behind her a moment. Then she shook her head clear "Have you seen the new girl? There something itching at my memory about her and ... her friend? I can't seem to recall. That's odd given how some things I can't forget no matter how hard I try."
Personal rules of good roleplay
1.) Nothing goes as planned.
2.) If it goes as planned it's not good RP
Connor raised an eyebrow at that. She already seemed like a special case, but he couldn't think of what a vampire would do for physical training. "I dunno," he responded with a shrug, "what sorts of things do you do?"
Before she can answer back, however, the sound of Misty's voice comes from somewhere behind him. He holds holds up a finger to Natalia, as if telling her to hold that thought, before tilting his chair back on its hind legs and allowing his head to flop over the backrest until he was looking behind him, albeit upside-down. "Good morning Misty," he says, staring her right in the face, "if you mean the loon that I saw a few moments ago, yes. If you mean anyone sane, no," he responds, rubbing his chin in thought as he contemplates her dilemma. "I'd say take a look at her and see if there's any objects in particular that tip you off to something that she may have done in the past. Spirits love mementos, after all. Or, at least, most of them do. You're just the general Odd-One-Out in multiple cases, Misty."
Toni considered for a moment. "I'm not so sure I want to see New Orleans anymore... The buses here usually just do as the driver tells them, they're fairly well-behaved. Once or twice a month you hear about a super villain trying to hold a bus hostage, or running into a patch of ice or molasses or something like that, but it's almost always resolved quickly, and rarely is there loss of life." He stopped at the corner, and leaned out a bit as he looked down the street. Only two blocks away. Right on time.
Lexi did a bit of multitasking, searching the net for news reports that match (more or less) Melody's story. Anything she found would likely have the name of the minor withheld, but that would only be a minor problem. There would still be plenty of details to narrow things down...
On arriving at the cafeteria, Marianne and Millie purchased some of the breakfast selections. Lexi tried some samples, but didn't really need to eat. She just liked to see how well it reacted with the chemical sensor array in her tongue...

*News reports would show roughly five months ago an Aether Pirate robbery of a bank went horribly wrong for both sides. Several capes were injured, at least one civilian killed, The civilian was the first one killed which seemed to spark a far larger conflict. An Airship was destroyed and many of the criminals on board were killed. Several of the survivors who were arrested were later ambushed while being taken to TCPD HQ and murdered. While no TCPD officers were killed several were severely injured and two were forced into early retirement. This was quickly followed by a capes fire fight (literally) at a cemetery where the offending underage cape escaped with the aide of an unregistered that possessed super level strength and some form of rock armor. A month after that field report A news team captured footage of an IFRIT unit with what appeared to be a teenage girl in its ranks having it out with what looked to be a large red wolf. The wolf like creature escaped, dragging off one of the IFRIT members after severely injuring most of the team, including the girl. The paramedics were called. A second page news article listed two of the IFRIT members as here illegally so they were deported and the girl as 'wanted for questioning' and she was promptly arrested. Oddly not much can be found about the trial other than one conspiracy website. It talks about how the DA took a bribe and was corrupt. He would let certain capes go who would turn up later usually doing worse things and better equipped than when they were first arrested. 'The latest is a teenage girl, a known murderer who will do anything to get to her target. I feel sorry for what happened to her, but it doesn't excuse cold blooded murder. She burned that man alive in the back of the cop car. Why wouldn't she get actual jail time?"
Melody looked around the cafeteria. Well her breakfast companions were limited. It looked like her choices were a boy talking to himself and some Hot topic lolita or the Inspector gadget gang she was starting her tour with. "No wonder they sent me here, they want me to kill myself out of boredom." Melody snatched an apple off a passing students tray. he went to protest by Melody just dead eye stared him until he walked away. She hedged her bet on which student would know where the only class that interested her at all was held.
"Hey Lady MacBeth" She was addressing the vampire girl. "Where's the drama department?" Melody had spent most of her time at Juvi doing rehab. She wanted to stretch her legs and dance. All these goth kids knew where the art classes were held. She took a noisy bite out of her filched apple.

As Melody makes her way over to the cafeteria table, Connor slowly leans his chair back into its proper position, watching the girl with marked discomfort. Although he did not know her whole story, something about this girl seemed to be throwing him off. If he knew, however, he didn't mention it. He also knew the answer to her question, but if his tightly-pursed lips were any indication, he wasn't going to be talking immediately.
"Odd one out? Now now you don't even know me to know that." She looked at Melody "No it's like I know her, or someone important to her. But can't remember who or where."
Rose chuckles as she shakes her head in reply to his statement as she commented whilst walking to the bus.
"Oh, I see. Well don't worry, it's still a wonderful and mysterious place, though some residents let the motto go to their head." She states with pride.
Natalia purses her own lips for a moment as she examines and locks eye with Melody under her alluring and nearly vertigo inducing gaze as she replies neutrally, recognizing the girl and her exploits from news reports.
"Opposite the courtyard due west of you, and I'd appreciate you using my actual name over a hackneyed and trite moniker, it's Natalia." She implores while offering the former juvi resident the same glare she offered the student she swiped an apple from, curious to see how she responds.
Turning back to Connor for a moment, she answers swiftly.
"Building fitness and muscular endurance, increasing my knowledge over martial skill? Still interested?"
Connor merely remains silent, deciding to occupy himself by taking what appeared to be an extremely slow sip from his coffee as he tries to find something other than Melody to focus on. Ah, well it would appear that the swirling patterns created by his coffee would do just fine.
Dennis was continuing to eat, taking notice , of the female he never quiet noticed before as he sat in his tucked away table that he typically ate alone, at trying to figure out if the student was knew or not, but it was hard to focus when he was shoveling food into his mouth and drowning it in soda.
Note: Jorortis is still a character of mine and is still going to be in the super group, not Demirus, at least not yet...
Natalia blinks as she attempts to rouse Connor's attention by locking eyes with him, unknowingly and subconciously pouring hypnotic power into the gesture.
"Connor, you there? Still interested in my proposal?"
Connor blinks back, pausing for a few moments as their eyes lock. "Uh...Yeah. Yeah, sure, sorry, just a bit distracted," he says, still staring at Natalia even after he finishes speaking.
Natalia, still not aware of her power, blushes as she doesn't break eye contact with Connor.
"Are you alright, Connor?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, why?" He asks back, his coffee still in front of half of his face.
Natalia answers by grabbing his coffee cup, and setting the goblet of life down gently as she states.
"Because your staring." She doesn't sound offended or agitated in the slightest, inquiring. "I mean do I have something on my face, are my fangs showing, or am I simply that unattractive?"
Toni chuckled as they boarded the bus. The passengers seemed to be mostly a mix of business people, who got off in Downtown, and college students, who continued on towards Alexandria after Toni and Rose got off at James Duncan. For Toni and Rose, at least, the trip was without incident.
Marianne and Millie and Lexi had sampled the food of the cafeteria, and while Lexi had never had institutional food before, her parents pronounced it quite good.
Connor raises an eyebrow. "No, no, and no," he says in response to her questions before finally, slowly lowering the coffee cup. "Sorry if that was discomforting. I suppose I just spaced out for a moment."
Stepping off the bus with Toni, Rose proceeds to walk into the cafeteria for a latte and warm company, waving to Connor, Natalia, Dennis, Portia, and even Melody as she passes. Turning to Toni once within the line, she inquires quietly.
"Ready for training today, and want a croissant? Also, where's Setzer?"
Natalia nods as she receives his answers, unable to stop a blush from surfacing at the last one, inquiring quietly about it before stating further.
"Really? And it's fine, I've been guilty of the same thing. Though may I ask why you are distracted, Connor?"
"Yeah, really," he says with a shrug, as if it weren't a big deal. He shoots a glance over at Melody, watching her carefully as he lowers his voice so that only Natalia could hear him over the ambient noise of the others in the cafeteria.
"She's a Reaper. She's a god damn Reaper, and such a young age, I don't even know what the hell to do about it."
Natalia blushes more at that, before deciding to stow away the point for another time as she listens to Connor about Melody. Blinking at the term, she ponders inquiring before deducing aloud, so that only they may hear.
"If Wickets protect both the living and aid the dead, I imagine Reapers slay at their leisure for pleasure? And if she is, what is she doing here? From what it sounds like most Reapers never change their ways, perhaps she is an exception?"
Portia sipped at her coffee and quietly observed the back and forth between Natalia and Connor, a slight smirk on her full lips.
"What's a goddamn Reaper? The way you say it makes it sound rather grim." she inquired, delivering the pun with a straight face.
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
"Cool thanks Nats."Melody met the blank expression with complete ignorance. Some other people wander in waving in her general direction. She heard bits of the conversation being had. Some sort of PE class.
Melody spied on the various trays around. Only one kid seemed to have any decent food. "Think fast shovel mouth!" With what looked like a bird hop from Melody one of the Sodas violently jerked off of Dennis's tray and flew to Melodys hand. "Thanks sport"
Melody B lined to the west through the cafeteria on her way to the drama wing.
"They either do it because they like it, because they can, or, hell, they've just done it already," Connor says with a grimace, keeping his voice low, "but I can't just deal with her in a place like this, especially if she's supposed to be a registered student..." He trails off, looking over at Melody again. "...Is she?"
Natalia smiles to Portia, taking a moment to inquire with priorities in mind.
"I believe Connor can explain it better than I can, but I believe a Reaper is anyone who has ended multiple lives? And I love your top by the way, excellent color. Perhaps we can go to the Maul later on this week for fun?" She ahems as she turns back to Connor.
"I believe she is a student now, Connor. But even if she is, would you still be obligated to deal with her even if she wanted to change?"
"She wants revenge. To make them suffer, to make everyone suffer." Misty shrugs "That my guess at least. Still wish I can remember something important about all this." She settled down on the bench "It's worst than just the fogginess of morning like something trying to make me forget."
Portia was looking between Connor and Natalia when Melody snatched the soda off Dennis's tray. She shot to her feet and as Melody made a beeline towards the cafeteria exit, Portia latched onto the soda. With concentration, she was able to control the liquid in the bottle because it had some water in it. With a modicum of restraint intended to leave the bottle undamaged, she yanked the 2-liter soda from the thief's hand and floated it back over to Dennis's tray.
Portia then looked back to Melody. "He's eight feet tall and weighs in the neighborhood of five hundred pounds. Oh, and he's much faster and stronger than he looks. Trust me, I'm doing you a favor."
Melody shrugged. Then did a two step and watched the soda burst out of the 2 liter. "Sure thing aqua-girl." Melody sneered and left the cafeteria.
"Dance...dance...dance...there it is." Melody smiled. If anyone had been able to see it they would have remarked how pretty her face actually was when she didn't walk around looking like she had a mask plastered over it. Some freshman boy was inside as Melody entered. 'Room for two?" Melody actually dropped the sarcastic bite she usually had. The boy looked at the tall girl. "Uh... I'm about to do contemporary, you dance that?" Melody grinned and nodded. 'You a supes kid?" Melody asked. The boy shook his head no. "Nah, my parents figured since we live in the city of crazy I might as well get used to it now." Melody chuckled. She was a seventh generation mutant but she understood where his parents were coming from. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you, but don't freak out alright? When I dance to music even my own humming it summons elements. I got pretty good control of it, but I can't NOT summon it. Teaches you not to hum and tap your feet at the same time on a train." Melody grinned and walked over to the music. The boy seemed uneasy, but his classes were full of weird kids with weird abilities, most the time they were rather harmless.
Melody hit play. The boy took his position. He had good form for his age. No prodigy, but he had talent. Melody watched for a few moments to get the general feel for what he was doing. "Kick higher their kid." "It's Gavin" "Kick higher Gavin, the music rises, your leg should rise at the same pace right to the apex and then lower as the music softens, it will add dramatic effect to your timing. .... Like this."
Melody slid out of her jeans, she always wore bike shorts under them. She knotted her teeshirt at her midsection so it wouldnt billow out. She restarted the music.
Melody's body gracefully arched and swayed. She spun and kicked nearly straight in the air ever so slowly with the music. Gavin could feel the room getting warmer. As Melody continued to move small jets of flame popped in and out of existence all around her. It was like fireflies blinking. Gavin sat down and just watched. Melody was quickly lost to the music. Snakes of fire coiling around her like a silent dance partner.
"Show off." Misty crossed her arms as she watches the display "Any bets she be sent to the suppression room for this impromptu dance number?"
Dennis closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh as his soda was snatched away and returned a moment later, but he didn't even want it anymore and gave Portia a subtle"Thanks." Before stopping to eat all together ,as he had eaten enough for 1 hour of activity, talking under his breath."Why can we just get a student here whose not an emotional train wreck or a total bitch ,a bully I can deal with but this is ridiculous, I mean whats the point?' Dennis paused for a moment, noticing he was talking to himself.
Portia tried to stop the soda from flying everywhere, but was unsuccessful. It splattered all over the floor, the table, the walls, and Dennis.
"Well, sadly, 'making everyone suffer' isn't exactly something that's in a Wicket's book of Okay Things to Do," Connor says with a hint of sarcasm to his tone. The others head off shortly afterwards, Portia to try and save Dennis's soda, Misty to go be...Misty, and eventually Natalia and Connor were alone at the table. He shakes his head, and rubes his temples with his fingers.
"See, that's another part of the problem, I don't actually know," Connor replies, looking back up at Natalia, "I guess logically I should have expected something like this to happen sooner or later, but...Damn it."
Misty did indeed went ... well Misty as the lights dimmed and a mist arose she used the mist as a cloak so people could make out a human form then booming from the speakers, complete with squeeks. "Who disturbs my slumber! "
Toni pointed out Setzer walking along the wall just behind Rose, staying out of the way of other students. "Ready. But a croissant sounds good."
Lexi asked ESSI if she had a way to check the status of Melody's bracelet.
When Misty's voice came booming out of the speakers, Toni chuckled. "Sounds like Misty is in high spirits this morning..."
Millie, on the other hand, had a bit more experience with ghosts. "Something odd is happening. Lexi, can you let ESSI know we're ready to help if needed?"
"Sure, Mom," replied Lexi. She let ESSI know about her moms' innate abilities (at least, those she knew about) and mentioned the possibility of teleporting in gear, if permitted.
Rose offered a smile in greeting to the familiar, before turning to quickly purchase two croissants and two vanilla lattes, promptly leading them to another two-seater table as she sits down, chuckling at his joke.
"She always seems to be, though I bet there is more to her than we know, she isn't malicious...simply a prankster." She then adds.
"I'm also ready for the family dinner tonight, and hope that goes well, seeing as Mom...is Mom."
ESSI responds immediately at the question. "Yes I can, as it is connected wirelessly to the security field surrounding the school, telling me exactly where she is...in fact, she is currently in Dance."
At receiving information on her mother's abilities, ESSI nods as she adds. "I will make good to retain tat information. And that is acceptable, so long as I may scan the contents first before permitting entry."
Natalia blinks as she inquires. "The other Wicket's before you did not think to outline the finer details of your obligations, or notes of previous encounters?" She then frowns at seeing him distress, moving her left hand to move to clasp one of his, comfortingly. To his surprise, her skin is not deathly cold or unimaginably hard, but feels firm and not uncomfortably cool, overall a pleasant experience.
Melody grinned as the music ended. The fire blinked out of existence. "Now you." Gavin looked at her rather helplessly. 'Fine at the same time, come on." Gavin stood up and took position again.
Melody pressed play. She had been working on this, to summon any element to any music. A gentle wind instead of fire blew around the pair as they moved. It buffeted Melody far harder, often lifting her in jumps much higher. Gavin seemed to be enjoying himself. "Can you do that with me?" Melody made a slight nod. On the next jump she thought about something.... dark... The room filled with wind lifting the two until they almost hit the raised ceiling. "Holy crap not that high!" Gavin yelled. Melody also yelled out. The pair crashed to the ground.
This wasn't the first time she had felt it go off. Every time though the pain was unavoidable. She rolled around on the floor as if hit by a tazer. She clutched her wrist in agony. The bracelet had responded to Melodys mood. "I'm sorry Gavin I didnn't..." Gavin had already run from the studio. "Fuck." Melody sat in a dispossesed heap in the middle of the dance floor.
"Because generally it's expected that there isn't any ambiguity," Connor says, the furrow of his brow increasing at her gesture, though more in a curious way as opposed to a distressed one, "the general 'rule' as it was was that if it fits the definition, then you remove its soul and send it to the Other Side for judgement and appropriate punishment. That's it, and it's pretty much the way every written encounter I have goes. But this feels...Wrong, somehow." He sighs, leaning back in his chair. "I don't know why. I guess it just might be because of how young she is," he pauses, looking over at Dennis, who was currently soaked in his own cola.
"...Though that doesn't mean that she isn't an asshole..."
Dennis didn't have a lot of clothes, because his life was so revolved around food he rarely got new outfits, and for his clothes to be ruined like this did not sit well with him, at all, he got up from the table and stomped away growling and mumbling under his breath before slamming through the doors of the danger room, almost knocking them off their hinges before grabbing one of those large trailer truck sized weights and slamming his fist into it, almost caving it in on itself.
Natalia nods at that, not yet removing her hand from Connor's as she keeps squeezing comfortingly, replying to his statement curtly.
"It's because you have good and adaptive judgement. Which is most likely why you were chosen to be the current Wicket Door, because you seem to have a respectable level of compassion and a good sense of intuition. And maybe so, but considering her circumstances...would you be open and caring to others?"
"I don't even know what her situation is," Connor says with another sigh as he rubs his face with his free hand, "I don't know if I'm breaking a rule through inaction here, or...What." He stares at the table in thought for a few moments, before his gaze slowly wanders over to where their hands were currently touching. Although he doesn't seem particularly bothered by it, he does have a somewhat puzzled expression.
Before Dennis crashed his way in, Alicia was quietly meditating in the middle of the empty Danger Room, having done her own round of physical exercises before the training activities were to begin. Assuming a lotus position a foot or so in the air, Alicia was lost in her thoughts when Dennis slammed into the weight, at which point her concentration broke. Startled, she unleashed a strong wave of involuntary energy, which only managed to make the room even more of a mess as it tossed around anything in her general area.
After a moment of silence to let the various objects that were thrown around settle, Alicia slowly extended her legs down to the floor before pulling herself up to her full height. "...Please don't do that."
Natalia sighs as she explains, despite not feeling it was her's to share. "A civilian who was apparently very close to Melody was slain in a botched Aether Pirate assault on the bank, which set her on a vengeful rampage. She had several altercation with law enforcement and heroes thereafter, before going off the grid in a sense, reappearing as the apparent prisoner of IFRIT. She was eventually captured and freed, obviously...but I believe the damage was done." She states with notes of sympathy clear in her tone, mixed with genuine concern.
Taking a moment to regress to silence, she too begins to eye their conjoined hands at the moment, drawing it back suddenly at his staring, blushing as she profusely apologizes. "Oh, I'm sorry, i didn't mean to make you uncomfortable..I just...I'm sorry." She mutters softly.
A large 100 pound plate, was sent flying into Dennis shoulder from her little shock wave, it only bounced off into the bleachers, but he didn't move, he just turned and walked by her, giving out a monotone "Sorry."
Connor blinks, waving with panicked, awkward dismissal as she withdraws. "Oh, no, no it's fine, it was really perfectly fine," he says, clearing his throat, "I wasn't uncomfortable, I just uh...Wasn't quite sure why you were doing that, is all," he says, turning to look off into the distance for a moment. "Just wasn't sure."
He clears his throat again after a moment, slowly looking back to Natalia. "...Maybe we should talk about something other than...Whoever that girl is, for a bit."
Alicia simply watches him walk past, letting out a stern, somewhat upset sigh after noting the impersonal nature of his apology. She clenches her fists slightly after he walks past her, but takes a deep and slow breath before relaxing. "Just try to be quite, please," she says before taking another breath to regain her proper composure.
Natalia nods, and slowly places her hand back over his, hoping to convey a sense of calming warmth or at the very least wake him up to some human, or in her case inhuman contact as she states quietly.
"You seemed distressed, so I saw fit to try and comfort you Connor...i don't like seeing my friends unhappy." Her tone loses it's neutrality, as genuine notes of caring and concern break though...as well as something else, before she ahems herself, affirming.
"Your right. So, you are not bothered by my contact..or me being a undead creature of the night by all stereotypical accounts, should be feasting on the lifeblood running though your veins?" She inquires with a slight smirk. Is she joking?
"Well, like I said, I'm Death's Paperboy," Connor says with a bit of a snort, "dealing with dead people is what I do all day. And it's not like you're running around bearing your teeth at people, so I don't see much of an issue. You're taking your condition, so to speak, pretty well."
Natalia can't help but chuckle at the statement, replying sagely.
"At the very least, you've remained attractive as Death's Paperboy, and being the Wicket sounds both rewarding, if not taxing. And you should have seen me when I was younger...I still remember being fully aware that I was being buried and crawling up from my own grave. It took time to adapt to my current state of being, and moreso to use it the way I do now, but I wouldn't change a thing."
Toni nodded. "I am hoping you're right about being able to talk her around. But even if you can't I like hanging around with you."
Lexi sent to ESSI, *Please let us know if assistance is needed.* She then told her mothers, "ESSI can keep track of Melody's bracelets, and knows that she can call on us for help."
Rose smiles as she replies. "So do I Toni, and Mom isn't mean, but since Dad..." She trails off for a moment, not even able to say it, as she finishes with. "I'm all she has left of him besides his pictures and memories...to her, the idea of giving me away to someone who could potentially break my heart is...daunting to say the least." She explains.
ESSI offers a holographic smile to the trio of women as she replies. "I will retain the information in my memory banks, Alexandra. Thank You."
Connor looks a bit surprised. "Generally, I would've assumed that a vampire that was aware of what they were would want to find a cure of some sort, if that sort of thing is possible," he says with a shrug, "but I suppose the more important thing would be to be comfortable, all things considered." He shrugs again, seeming much more relaxed than he was earlier. Then, his surprise returns for a moment, along with a hint of puzzlement. "...Wait, what do you mean by that other thing you said?"
Natalia can't help but smile a bit at the notion. "While returning to normal wold be nice for me ascetically, seeing as I look like this..." She gestures to her form and outfit. "I would be unable to help people with the same level of efficiency as I do now, so for right now...I can live with my curse, or unlive rather." She smirks, before she goes blank at his inquiry, not able to prevent her blush as she replies quietly, restating.
"I stated that you were at the very least an attractive Wicket Door, among your other admirable qualities."
Toni sighed. "That is the problem, isn't it? Only the ones you love can break your heart."
Millie and Marianne smiled at the Hologram. "So, shall we continue with the tour, while waiting for whatever?" asked Marianne. Lexi, however, looked over at the couple eating croissants and the cat beneath their table looking at her...
Connor flushes a bit, but clears his throat and leans in a bit before lowering his voice.
"Listen," he says, looking around the cafeteria for a moment, "it's only, what, your second day here? Even with fangs you could take your pick from the best this place has to offer, shouldn't you be doing some window shopping or something?"
Rose nods sadly, amidst slyly passing a piece of her croissant to Setzer, hoping the black market deal will go unnoticed. "It is. When you let them in you open yourself to both sides of love, warm as wool and sharp as a razor."
ESSI does what can only be called a embarrassed holographic blush, her cobalt cheeks tinging a light teal, as she states. "Oh, I am sorry, i was distracted! Shall we head into the open-air courtyard, next? And are your alright, Alexandra?"
Natalia lowers her own voice so that only Connor may hear, the blush never leaving her cheeks but a smile beginning to grace her lips as she speaks openly to him. "Connor, while I appreciate the compliment you simply aren't giving yourself enough credit. And I was never the cream of the crop to begin with, I have no place in picking there and wouldn't want to...I'm fine right here." She grins to Connor, looking down shyly.
Connor shakes his head. "Sounds more to me like you're the one that's not giving yourself enough credit here," he says, reaching a hand out to casually tilt her chin upwards to maintain eye contact, "and it's not like I have anything special to offer to begin with. You can do better, you know."
Natalia blinks at the contact, as he features could not be more highlighted due to her now blushing complexion as her eyes lock with his, the effect now comfortable and no less alluring, but it's peaceful...welcome. When she speaks, her voice is soft, though radiating a fair bit of happiness as is her now beaming smile.
"Then we should work on promoting our self images together, Connor, because I feel we will be reminding eachother of their attractiveness for awhile." She can't help but smirk at the idea, before adding. "And no, I don't think I could, actually. Your kind, sensitive, but not so much you let it show. Your invisible, but you choose to be I believe...you are nice not because you feel obligated to, and lastly..you seem genuine." She takes a moment to squeeze his hand that never left her's.
"I'd say I made the best possible choice Connor, you?"
Dennis was back inside the cafeteria where a janitor was mopping up the soda, he shook his heads grabbed his back pack, his head looking down as he walked back into the danger room, moving towards the weights he dented up a few moments ago, and started to lift them mumbling under his breath. "Why..huh, please its a shame just a shame, right?, right.." The more he thought about it the harder he lifted the weights ,not even noticeing he was slamming them back onto the ground each time.
Connor smiles a bit, and sighs. "I can't say I know what you see in me, but..." He pauses for a moment, shrugging. "I suppose there wouldn't be much harm in seeing how things go." He snorts a bit, as if holding back a small bout of laughter. "Honestly, I don't even really know what to say to you at the moment, this sort of thing doesn't really happen."
After the first twenty or so rhythmic slams of metal weights against the ground, Alicia opens her eyes once more, the noise having disturbed her meditation again. She clenches her jaw and takes a deep breath, before slowly getting up and walking over to the workout area as calmly as she can. As one of the weights comes back down at the end of Dennis's rep, Alicia reaches out to catch it, holding it part-way between its peak and the ground.
Natalia can't help but chuckle happily, simply reveling in Connor's adorable awkwardness, as she steadies herself, speaking plainly. "Then I should make good on a promise to remind you why I chose you, when need?" She smiles, before adding, inquiring gently. "Then simply say what you feel, Connor? I'm not going to go sappy on you, but what does your instinct tell you to do?"
Melody sighed dejectedly. She lay on the smooth wooden floor and rolled to her stomach. Screw that kid, he had ASKED her to do it. Whatever, just more proof this entire place was awful. She would make this room hers, her home, her class. She would hone her dance, and eventually find the right egghead to get this thing off her so justice would be served. These children could play at wargames, she was a warrior, a goddess of death, and the world would learn it.
"I really don't know," he says, his smile growing a bit, "though it's certainly not a bad feeling, I know that much. I suppose it's just something new, perhaps a bit exciting."
Natalia smiles at that, before stating. "I know what you mean...it's a pleasurable rush, something good and content...no wonder Rose and Toni look so happy together. And if you don't know what your instincts are telling you, then perhaps I should follow mine?" She inquires, before moving forward to pull him into a light, long, but not overtly so kiss, her first...and simply follows the instinct as she does, allowing him the time to stop the motion if he wants.
When he noticed he couldn't feel one of the thumps, that the wight would normally make ,he continued to hold it but he, looked down, and noticed someone was holding it. "sorry about that, lot on the mind." He slowly let the wight down until it dropped ,not making a single noise.
Despite the slowness of the gesture, Natalia still manages to catch Connor by surprise for the most part, something made apparent by his slightly flustered expression when they finally pull apart. He scratches the back of his head and looks away, but can't stop himself from grinning nonetheless.
"...You really couldn't wait to do that, huh?"
Alicia lets go and allows him to put the weight down, sighing slightly as he places them silently. "It might help your mood to talk about it," she says with her usual tonelessness, "even if you're more inclined to physical activity."
Natalia blushes in reply, lowering her head as she answers, apologizing. "No, I couldn't...and I'm sorry, that was too forward, I wasn't thinking things though and...well you were there with that adorable grin and I uhm...I'm sorry!" She mumbles, still not looking up as she finds the edge of the table the most interesting thing in the world at the moment, embarrassed and cursing her own forwardness.
Dennis let out a little laugh, but said in all seriousness."I prefer to keep my feelings built up inside, talking is not really my thing.''
Connor grinned a bit. "You're just as new to this as I am, aren't you," he says after a moment, "I sure didn't believe that at first glance."
Alicia paused, contemplating whether or not she should inquire further, but ultimately seems to decide against it. "If you say so," she responds, before pausing again, "either way, you should at least find a proper way to vent your frustration."
Natalia nods, raising her face slowly to meet his, as she admits. "I am new to all of this, these feelings, thinking about you...it's so intense, and kinda scary, but I think the reward is worth the risk, wouldn't you say?" She then inquires curiously.
"What do you mean, Connor?" She asks gently.
'I should vent it all over that chicks cranium ,but that would be wrong, and I do have morals."Dennis shrugged a scratched his head.
The cat was distracted by a piece of croissant, and Lexi wondered why the cat had been staring at her in the first place. "My turn to be distracted, I guess." She followed ESSI and her parents.
Toni smiled as Rose tried to covertly give Setzer a piece of croissant. "So true. But I'm willing to risk that razor."
"Just seemed to me like you'd be popular enough to have gone through this before, is all," Connor says in response, "I suppose it sort-of goes back to that 'selling yourself short' thing."
"If you've been wronged, physical violence in the name of retribution is one of the worst ways of dealing with it," Alicia says, her voice somewhat firmer than usual, "though it's good to hear that you've thought better of it, regardless."
Rose smiles back as she successfully completes her clandestine transaction, before moving to kiss Toni once more as she replies.
"So am I. And I forgot to ask, how is Setzer doing in his dating escapades?" She raises a eyebrow comically at the familiar.
ESSI smiles as she leads the to the open air rectangular courtyard, water gurgling heard in steams lining the parameter and vines circling marble columns like veins, the entire topiary area a beautiful sight to behold. ESSI allows the trio to gaze around amoment before announcing.
"This is the open air courtyard, often a spot for lunch or studying, and it's growth is monitored and tended to by our resident Gardner and agrokinetic, who is currently working on talking to the trees in front of the campus. Questions?"
Natalia can't help but blush as that, as she replies softly, probably a result from a loss of confidence at being so close to Connor, sharing a intimate moment. "It does. I mean 'ME, popular? Have you seen me Connor, Melody said it best, I am like Lady Macbeth." She notes sadly.
Connor stands, gathering his now-empty cup of coffee, along with the cold, abandoned cup from earlier, and tosses them into a nearby trashcan. "Don't tell me that whole 'vampires don't have reflections' thing is true," he says with a snort before slinging his backpack on his back, "we probably still have some time, but we might as well move to the Danger Room, yeah?"
Natalia can't help but chuckle, standing as well, her solid black backpack slung over one shoulder as she answers. "No it, isn't at least not for me I believe, but why does that matter? And roughly ten minutes...but I suppose we should get going to beat the rushing crowd. that's bound to occur when the bell sounds."
"You sound like a therapist , I had a therapist when I was 8 years old, before I came here actually..my older brother would send me to him, to I guess keep me in my right mind at times, when I developed this eating disorder, I would eat everything in sight it, Pizzas ,burgers, cakes, anything then it got pretty ugly." He paused in the midst of his story just to see if Alicia was even paying attention.
"Yeah, might as well. Not sure I feel like getting glared at when I ask the talkers to let the hallway traffic flow," Connor says with a bit of a smirk. "It's for walking, not for lounging, after all. I've never even been in the place, so I don't even know what there is to do there."
Alicia, although silent, was listening. When Dennis stops, she simply stares for a few moments, expectantly waiting for him to continue. "Why did you stop?"
He continued to talk taking a mental note that she was actually listening to him. " I would eat all the food, out of the little shack we called a home in a matter of hours, everything, and no one else ate because of me, my mom was doing some things she had no businesses doing, that is why I am like this now, and my dad ,he was trying to support me and my older brother, but just as this eating disorder I had started to get worse, my brother turned 18 and my dad had him registered as a legal guardian and pardon my french, got the fuck out. "
Dennis moved over to a bench and sat in it.'' My dad didn't know but my brother was a sociopath all he cared about was just wrecking everything, but he was my brother so I was like yeah I'm going to be a rebel too, so I wrecked and ate with him ,then as a joke, he took away all the food in the house, just as a fun game, and you know see what I would do.."His voice got a little more grim." I knew how important it was for me to eat, but I went without food for him, and he kept me in the shack, and invited company over, a friend of his ,and just to see what I would do he sent the poor guy down there, and I ripped his arm off with my teeth, he barely made it up stairs before the police cane and me and my brother were Institutionalized."
Natalia smirks to Connor, before offering him her right hand gingerly to hold as she replies. "I'll walk you there, and don't worry, the Danger Room is as adaptive as it claims to be, we'll find something to do, or we can simply talk whilst we wait?" She proposes.
'"Either option sounds fine to me," Connor says, taking the hand with a smile as they started on their way. "I have the feeling that they're really going to have it in for us once we actually start whatever it is they have planned, though."
"And has this experience shaped your mentality as it stands today?" Alicia asks, folding her arms as she speaks, "or was it something else?"
Natalia smiles as they walk and promptly enter the Danger Room, moving to sit hem on a bench near lifting equipment as she replies, whilst waving to Alicia and Dennis.
"I do as well, Principal Ellis seems to be about no nonsense to the core, and I imagine our training will reflect that. Are you nervous?"
"Not nervous so much as expecting to end up a total mess by the end of the day," Connor says with a slight grimace as he sits down on the weightlifting bench, "not to mention that I'm probably going to be tired enough tomorrow as it is, without wanting to sleep even more due to...Whatever it is we're going to be doing in here today."
Natalia simply replies by pulling him into their second kiss, nothing long and obscene, but chaste and hopefully calming, as she inquires with a smile. "Feeling less nervous now, Connor?"
Connor smiles as the kiss finishes. "Maybe a little," he responds, setting his bag down and relaxing a bit more. He takes a few moments to properly observe his surroundings, seeing as this was an entirely new room for him, raising an eyebrow at some of the equipment. "...People are actually able to lift some of these things?" He says as he looks at some of the heavier weights in the room.
Natalia smirks at Connor as she replies. I could lift maybe the first four sets of weights, maybe...but after that their in a class all their own. They may also use cars and weights in the shape and appropriate weight of buses if they'd like." She states with a smile, before proposes.
"Only a little? I'd propose another kiss Connor, but consider this a bit of working on your confidence?" She grins, waiting for him to make a move.
Connor smiles and rolls his eyes in a joking manner. "Well, if you insist," he says, moving a bit closer in order to fulfill her request. He pulls away after a few moments, and remains in his closer position to her. "Even so, the first four is way more than what most are able to do. I don't even know what weight that goes up to," he says with a shrug, "and I'd break my back finding out, that's for sure."
Natalia blinks at the kiss, happily surprised as she assents with a ever present grin that has stayed upon her face sine their interaction began. "Well, I believe we need to oblige eachother much more often Connor, in the name of self help of course." She jokes, before adding. "I have no idea as well, and I don't think I will find out..a vampire's strength grows with age, I am practically a toddler in relative terms." She states softly.
"It's a constant thing? You don't have to work on it?" Connor asks with a curious expression, "sounds like quite the deal, especially when you consider the whole Immortality thing."
