Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

Well you cant have it both ways. You are witnessing more behind the scenes of any game because of the method it is being created. So you can expect mistakes to happen especially during a live stream. If you want to only see the good parts, then maybe stay away from the forums and twitch and wait for the trailer. Otherwise cut them a bit of slack.

If you want feedback on the audio for the UI, you need to have the UI on display so the people could see which visual elements the audio was being associated with.

For instance, some of the double-click sounding audio files would be perfect for a toggle button, but not so much for a menu tree and not for slotting an augment into its slot.
Is the UI going to be skeumorphic? If so, then it would make sense to have button sounds that sound like 3D buttons being pressed or augments being fitted into their slots, for example. Do we want our toggles to sound like switches or dials with detents, or do we want them to sound like spring-loaded buttons? That would depend on the graphical representation of the toggle.

Every person who gave you feedback during that stream was working off of his or her own mental model of what we were discussing. If I was managing that project, I would have dismissed any conclusions from the feedback you received as invalid for that reason.

I would have preferred to have it associated with a UI but the interface is not going to be skeumorphic and therefore we have a greater tolerance on initial feedback. This is the first time we've attempted to explore our sound library in any depth with our community and given it's total size we had to limit our presentation to a random sample.

I feel you.

There is nothing inherently wrong with an informal twitch stream between a developer and some interested fans. I personally wish you would do more of them. But when the recurring problem of not being able to do what you want to do happens every time... there is only one conclusion people are going to come to. They are going to think that the game development suffers the same problems with lack of technical infrastructure and project planning and you will be debugging it the entire first year and people won't be able to play it because nothing will work right.

Concerns are unknowns. Perhaps at this point a negative unknown is better than a negative known.

I agree with your criticisms to a point. That is why I have been investing in better presentation software and materials. Unfortunately that comes with a learning curve and I know I haven't had the time lately to invest in dealing with that. I DO have a professional background as an A/V engineer but short-term problems have been an impediment to the quality levels I prefer as well as the unavoidably distributed nature of our organization.

While sometimes people get a little extreme in their criticisms we DO want to hear them and want them to continue participating. I appreciate the defense of our efforts though just as equally.

Not skeumorphic. That's good to hear. I suppose you are going to go with one default style of UI. And if a modding community opens up, you would allow them to provide different themes and styles of their own, right? I also assume that would include sounds.

Also, are we talking about buttons during character creation, UI elements on our HUD gameplay, or navigating pop-up windows during gameplay? I would want a completely different sound palette for each.

In the case of character creation, I liked the lighter, cleaner sounding buttons. The ones you played almost all sounded skeumorphic as if someone recorded actual buttons being pressed. I think just a simple tone might best reflect the 2D graphical representation you are going for instead. So see if maybe a cropped xylophone note or a simple synthesized key would feel better with the UI.

During gameplay, however. Our UI could either have the feel of a heads-up display or elements on a window we are looking through as players. In any event, I think a more real feel to our interactions with the UI would be appropriate, or in some way different enough from the gameplay sounds to be discriminated easily. And I think they should have more gravity to them, so we know we just clicked a UI element and not something else. Some of the samples you played sounded like they grinded past a mechanism on the way to being fully depressed. I don't like those unless we get a more mechanical feel to our UI. The ones that started nice and strong but stayed clear like #34 (very_bright_click) are my favorites.

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

I like updates as much as the next player, but I would vote for a stream only when you have something specific to show off. As a volunteer organisation, I don't think you should feel beholden to any particular schedule.

Well, by the time I got there everything was working fine, also I went back and watched what I missed and I want to see more of that grapple system! P.S. No laggy video this time around!

You showed off a really long video where you were going through the city, was that on a twitch stream I guess I missed? And if so, is it anywhere accessible to watch?

I agree. I think a simple 'official' post from MWM saying something to the affect that there won't be any more live streams for x reason and/or until x date would more than suffice to keep any fan's worries at bay. That would be enough for me. Huckleberry brought up a good point that when fans see so many issues in the twitch streams, despite whether or not the dev running it is a professional or not, they get the idea that that is how progress on the game is going even when the opposite is true.

I agree 100% with your point that you should stop streaming until you have something new to show. And even then, a pre-recorded, edited video would probably be much better than a live stream for a few reasons, the biggest being the amount of issues the past few months of live streaming has had. Editing a video takes time so if MWM set the expectation that we would get a cool video every 6-8 weeks, would that be sufficient time?

I just think at the moment less is more. Having a soft launch date within a year, people's expectations are high, so when we see streams riddled with problems and issues we will think the game is the same.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

We are actually planning on

We are actually planning on mods. And last night was simply character creation. There's really only 2-3 control types of significance. If it didn't make our product overly large I'd be happy to include the entire library and let users play. And most of the sounds I played were from audio samples. We were simply looking for basic button clicks and maybe an appropriate sound for a slider (no idea what that would be!). I DO have xylophone samples, FWIW. Our goal for UI is pleasant without being overwhelming - and that includes the sounds - at least for the HUD stuff. What's your UI background like?

I showed off the video that I did for the weather system. It had a good live view of the portion of the city in the map that was displayed earlier. It vanished off of Twitch all too quickly - a point I still find upsetting. Fortunately I recorded both segments as I streamed it and can pass it on to anyone by request. Warning it's almost two hours long!

Edit: Eh? I thought I posted a reply. Somehow it got chopped off.... Oh I inserted it into the wrong point. Here's the fix:

I absolutely agree with you personally. We will still need an occasional live stream for surveys which will be more difficult to plan for but that's tolerable. But that should be announced with appropriate disclaimers when they happen.

Who is this 'We' you speak of?

I have the experience to know that as any project gets closer to completion, the crazy messed-up issues just get Crazier and more messed-up. Accidentally delete one closure-tag in your code and the result looks like it was done by a spastic infant. The Devs are MUCH more sensitive to and knowledgeable about errors that crop up in their work, than anyone who is merely looking over their shoulder. So let's acknowledge the problems, but stay positive and supportive, so the Devs feel good about fixing things and don't just throw up their hands and storm off, right?

I liked last nights stream a lot, I thought it showed a lot of good stuff and although there were issues they definitely got resolved, I just wish we could have gone over more sounds and like Huck mentioned, perhaps seeing them attached to some actual clickies, sliders, glowies, and more would be awesome, but that's what next week is for :)

Just keep going and everything will iron out and the streams will keep getting better!

The 'We' are the other fans that have also expressed what I have. I have neither gone negative nor unsupportive of the MWM dev team in any of my comments. I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't support this game anymore. Everything I have said I said because it was what I believe can help CoT be even more successful at launch. Sure, projects gets crazier near the end...but when it comes to media you should consider what you show your viewers who you are counting on to buy your product. If these streams keep on going as they have the past few months until launch, I wouldn't buy the game because there hasn't been anything shown in a stream that has given me an idea of what I am buying. I am not saying "Don't show us anything" and I'm also not saying "We need to see everything you guys have right now!". I'm saying they need their marketing to be more professional and make sure what is shown is done so in a more professional way. It may be an impromptu stream or a stream just to get feedback about UI sounds, etc, but it is still marketing, official or unofficial.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

Polling only a live stream

Polling only a live stream would seem to be a rather self-selecting skew for results of a poll, in addition to being a smaller sample size than you could reach through other channels/means.

Agreed, I feel like we need to have some polls here on the forums, perhaps a thread with the different sounds with a poll on which we like best.

As far as polling goes, it's a cool idea but ultimately I think its unnecessary at this point. Just my opinion, but I would rather have the dev team choose their favorites and see how it goes during the beta/alpha and get feedback at that point. If that's not the direction they want to go, I would say that live streams are the least effective way of polling with the most effective probably being a survey from somewhere like Qualtrix.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

I'm working on cleaning it up

I'm working on cleaning it up for presentation. My tower with the videos was out of action for most of the last two days and I'm just getting things caught up. It's two hours of video and I need to do some work to it first. I've been seeing the requests though and I'm not ignoring them.

Edit: Video is processed. Took much longer than I thought. I'm about to upload to a personal YouTube channel. I must warn anyone who watches that it's over 2 1/2 hours long and live broadcast. Something caused the feed to interrupt at one point (I don't know what). I added a formal opening sequence to it that's just over five minutes long. There is a screen that appears where the stream broke indicating the point where it happened.
I'm experimenting with YouTube's monetization tool so an add might show up at the beginning. I don't actually expect any revenue of course.

When it is done processing it will be available at https://youtu.be/bzWmwMbQrpg

To be brutally honest we just didn't have much to show and we realized we hadn't done much with regards to our audio work as far as public updates. It was a kind of last minute idea. We felt that giving our viewers the chance to participate in some of our decisions might also be mutually enjoyable. I know I was having fun despite the crazy lag Twitch has (I have a 1GB full-duplex connection so I have no idea where that is coming from).I've worked as a performer with audience interaction before (I've been an employee of the company that does the Shrine Circus - did light & sound, stage crew, animal work, pyrotechnics, and performing).

Answering several people: Yeah, an audio poll might be worth doing. I'll have to ask the web and PR teams if they think they can set something like that up. It's no different than when we've done polls on visual elements really, but I'm not sure if we have the mechanics in place to post the sound samples.

We have LOTS of choices! We need a way to narrow it down first.

Anybody have any suggestions on that point?

I always start with the end in mind. In this case, the end is a "flavor" statement. Describe the mood, feel, taste and texture of the UI you are trying to design. You've already said it is not going to be skeumorphic, so there's a start.

Some people like scrapbooking to assemble their haphazard ideas together until they start to form a coherent direction. Others like to make lists and pare them down by process of elimination. Whatever you do to describe your final product that works for you is the method I recommend. Then, once you've got your personal creative description of what the final product should be, only then do you start working on the actual specific sounds and whether they fit that description or not.

Otherwise, every interesting sound you hear will take you down a speculative path of 'wouldn't that be cool', which at this point is a waste of time and resources.

Furthermore you guys already ran a poll on the UI style.
https://cityoftitans.com/forum/help-development-ui-style

I would think that selecting sounds at this point would be a matter of preparing a couple different palettes, each with a slightly different take on the look and feel of the UI, and then seeing which one resonates with this crowd the best.

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

First, you might want to

First, you might want to decide on an overall vision for your UI sounds, such as "we want crisp short sounds so the UI seems high tech and responsive" or "we want quiet, subtle sounds so that immersion in the city's ambient sounds is maintained while interacting with the UI". The dev team could make this decision - since you know best how the UI visual design is coming along, and can better judge what sound design matches it at a high level. Alternatively - you could put 3 to 5 of these statements into a poll to see which one does best before proceeding, and maybe show a screenshot or concept art of some UI elements so we can participate in this high level decision.

Then a speedy way to proceed is for the team to designate one person who understands that high-level vision and has good judgement in the area to be evaluated. Let them put together a recommended proposal.
In the UI sounds case, this could be a forum post listing the most common UI elements and actions ("open inventory", "start crafting mission from clues", "goto next page of AB", "color applied to costume", "character selected", "login", "augment placed", etc) and a link to the proposed sound files. Alternatively, post a recorded video with each sound played 3x while the UI element/action's text description is shown.

You can send the proposal through an internal review first if desired, and then we forumites can all give feedback in forum posts on which sounds fit well, avoiding the Twitch sound issues & feedback delays.

Maybe they will show us a potion of the city. It's been frustrating that I've seen more of SOH's city then Titan City. Last time I have seen a "tour" of Titan City was that Prototype Mission video released New Years Eve 2015. Sure would love to see how much better it looks now. All the updates since have been like puzzle pieces, nice by themselves but makes it hard to see the big picture.

Good question, dude. They did hint at this week being the week they show off augments and refinements. I dunno if that system is technically working, but it'd be cool if they showed off a few examples of each and adding them into/using them on powers.

I kind of doubt that level of UI and UX is done right now though? Maybe!

Unless my memory is mistaken they said updates would be on Wednesdays, two weeks apart cycling between big updates and a random, smaller update. But then again CoT never has been great at communicating these specific updates and keeping the twitch streams communicated on here. Can't say I'm surprised that there has been no communication at all about an update this week.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

Eh, I've been wanting to see more of "the girl model in the chargen" for years now so I'm not going to hold them too strictly to the "beginning of april" prediction for this. Now of course if this slips another week or two I might start to get the tiniest bit concerned about their ability to keep their "predictions" to at least within a ballpark's margin of error.

Correct. But does that go for the general update as well? I think most everyone was in agreement that we can live without constant Twitch streams, for many reasons I won't bring up here, but this week is slated to be the bigger update since it's been 2 weeks since the lore update? Or has it been postponed as well?

@MWM,

@MWM,

Do you think, for the next twitch stream, that it would be beneficial to do a poll from the community on what they want to see? You can give us a list of what is actually available to look at and we can give direction on where the majority of us would like to go for the stream? I think that would help drive the focus and also help prepare whoever will do the stream.

I ask because I feel like a poll would be fair to the community...but selfishly I'd love to see a short 5-10 twitch, or video, flying through any piece of the game, the actual world no matter how big or small the zone, that is closest to being a finished 'product'. We've seen twitch's in the past that show parts of it but those have either been basically a skeleton structure or a blueprint, or the inside of a single structure. I just want to see the world in all its glory...even if there is only a single street, park, subdivision, block, etc, to a point where we could get a glimpse of what it will look like. Its hard to get that perspective from great big block green/blue buildings.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.

As far as I know, there aren't any plans for any upcoming Twitch streams. While they haven't been cancelled for good (I think), they have been something that's been put on hold more-or-less since the streams often times came with their own set of problems on nights they were planned to go live. Unless its something really big, the MWM team has stuck to the format they have currently. Which is have big updates for the community be a month apart.

I know they are streams but do they actually need to be live?

From the bits that I have seen there is no interaction. Thus far, with players questions and such.

Actually there was interaction. I was talking to players either by voice or in the text chat on the right side of the screen. So were all the other present AFAIK. Twitch deletes all of that after a while unfortunately.

In case anyone is Jonesing

In case anyone is Jonesing for more videos to watch about City of Titans. Glitch has a Youtube channel that is stellar.

Yes, our very own forum member Glitch404 has been moonlighting as a Youtube disseminator of all things City of Titans. I suppose he's too humble to toot his own horn, so I'll toot it for him. You should check it out.

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
