I know it's not currently planned for release (much to my chagrin), but do you have a sense of what powersets you would like to do for the Hunter (blaster equivalent, I believe) manipulation secondaries and can you give any hints? Have you started any development on that yet? I presume you're probably focused on what is slated for launch.

Will we get lore* about events involving characters / contacts who are in the game? E.g. If Aurelia and Castilucci are contacts in the game, it'd be awesome to read more about their story even if it's not something we can pursue in-game.

Did the devs say which powers were set for launch for each archetype?
They did, then said "oh shit wrong list, sorry guys" :p No Dark as launch :( But it's more of an aesthetic than a power.

I know I’m so excited I can’t wait to see power options for each archetype have so many ideas and characters going through my mind ready to create
Dark is, indeed more of an aesthetic, but the Mechanic of siphoning away power to buff the user and his friends and debuffing the opponent was valuable and potent. I really hope to see it in CoT.

Question. Can I use dual pistols as a special effect for a melee power set? They would really be short ranged, but it would be totally cool.
I could call him, Point Blank Man.
Please?
Try this,
1st) Massive Melee (for the area of effect)
2nd) Invulnerability
3rd) Rage
Sword or Dual Pistols...its all the same, right?

Functionally speaking, the game mechanics aren't going to "care" if you're using swords or pistols. The animation aesthetics will care (of course), but so long as the option is available ... uh ... sure?

How many characters will we be able to "store" when the character creator is available? Will the powerset design and aesthetic decoupling choices will be included?
Apologies is this has been answered elsewhere.
Will we ever see rare temporary powers ones that are incredibly rare or near unique rewards ? that say might only have 1 or a few uses ?
Any idea how many costume slots we get yet? When they're available? How soon after a character's creation can we give them a second costume? Probably too soon for these questions.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
I'm not a Dev but I play one on TV... Seriously though I do spend way too much time on these threads so I do have some good "educated guesses" for your questions based on what the Devs have already told us.
As far as "storing" characters goes I think we need to be clear about the terminology we're using here. While it's very likely there will be a max number of characters we'll be able to create in the game I doubt there would ever be a "limit" to the number of characters we could design with the standalone Avatar Builder app.
Think of the Avatar Builder more like the in-game ICON costume designer in CoH - it'll should let us design/edit costumes, body sliders and aesthetic decoupling choices and allow us to SAVE those choices in special costume/body slider files. Those files should then be loadable into the game when we actually want to create a character in the game. The key difference will be that the DESIGNING of a character should be doable independently of CREATING a character in the game. Because the Avatar Builder simply saves design files as its output the only "limit" to that should be the literal storage capacity of whatever computer you're using to run the Avatar Builder app. Hope that makes sense.

Well by the time CoH was shutdown it allowed a player to instantly buy (via the cash store) up to 5 extra costume slots for every character of your account. That was above and beyond any other slots you could get otherwise by playing the game. If I had to guess there will likely be something similar for CoT: The overall total number of costume slots a character will be able to get will likely be a mixture of slots you can just simply buy on Day One as well as other slots that will unlockable by in-game rewards and/or level thresholds. Again if CoT follows CoH closely on this then each character would be able to have 6 slots the day you start and up to 10 slots by level 50.
Frankly I hope the "max number allowable" will be higher than 10. I assume it would still be easier from a software point of view to have a hardwired max number of slots set to some value, but if that number happens to be more like 20 or 25 in CoT I doubt that would "bother" me in the least. ;)

I think in Champions one of my characters had like 20 or so? Anyway I'd like to start out with at least 2 slots for costume and secret identity then I could make my new rendition of Siege Crab! Siege Crab mighty! Siege Crab strong!
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
I appreciate the response, Lothic. I had read your info in the props topic shortly after I had planted my question here. Hopefully we can all plan out and whet our imaginations for many, many toons. And as Hero asks for many versions of many, many toons. :-)
It's funny you mentioned CO: That game came up the idea of "selling extra costume slots in the cash store" roughly 2 years before CoH started doing it. ;)
Now it's been many years since I last played CO but at that point I think their max costume slots per character was also 10. Obviously they could have upped that max since I last played and if they did then good for them. As I implied before having a max of 20 costume slots per character in CoT would be absolutely wonderful. There might be people out there who'd want even -more- than that but I would think at least 20 would be a "more than generous" workable max for 99.999% of the playerbase.
As far being able to have a way to let a character have at least 2 costume slots at launch goes I would be absolutely shocked if that WASN'T possible in this game. You'd likely have to pay extra for that from the in-game store but believe me I'll be personally buying as many extras costume slots as the game will allow. ;)

I don't recall if this question has been asked, or answered already, and it's not in the FAQ, but it just occurred to me.
Will there be a Beta/Testing/Trial server, where we can bash around the new content and try out other ideas, before taking them to the Live/Permanent server?
Be Well!
Fireheart
You mean will there be a permanently active "test server" AFTER the game goes live? I don't know if any Dev has specifically mentioned it but would be very strange if that didn't happen. Back in CoH having the test server certainly made testing each new Issue/hotfix before release very easy. It also saved me countless millions of INF in costume experimentation. ;)

this would be a metal gauntlet in the shape of a giant fist 6 feet long. If you are going to make the fist for attacks, you might as well make it a pet that floats over your shoulder.

A significant part of the reason why nothing seems to have been done with the questions asked in this thread is an unfortunate tragedy.
My grandmother passed away in late October, with my grandfather following 38 days later on December 1st. As a result, myself and my department had to scramble to re-balance our various tasks and priorities so that I could properly handle everything that my family required. I was, after all, extraordinarily close to my grandparents, given that my grandfather was my only living relative whom was also on the autism spectrum (He was someone who predated the identification of Asperger's as a distinct circumstance, being born in 1927).
It is only when we stand up, with all our failings and sufferings, and try to support others rather than withdraw into ourselves, that we can fully live the life of community.

CoT the "new" CoH? Is the game live yet? I've been waiting all these years for CoH to come back. Nothing else out here even comes close to the community and friends I had on CoH. I stumbled on a YouTube video the other day from IGN(?) News that said Nate Downs of Missing Worlds Media was deep in negotiations with N C Soft and it was looking like they were going to let CoH be bought? True? I sure hope so!
It said none of the characters from CoH would have been saved, but I have the Old Sugar Coated Suicide SG and all the members on a flash drive. can those be put back into the game if it comes back. Geeze I've got a million and one questions! For now I'd just like to know how close, or far are we from getting our beloved game back!?
Oh geeze Terwyn I didn't see your post before posting my questions. SO sorry for your loss. I lost my grandmother in 1951 to cancer and it took me a "very" long time before I could come to grips with that. Then in 1971 I lost my grandfather, the man who made me who/what I am today so I can really understand your taking all the time necessary you need. Again my most sincere condolences on your loss.
Yes I am an "Older Bugger" and a grandfather today. I used to think I was one of, or the oldest player on CoH until I met a woman who asked "How old are you?" I gave my standard answer, "Probably old enough to be your grandfather." "Well," she replied, "You must be very, very old. I'm 78!" She put me in my place, she had me by 18 years! 8-) That's what made CoH such a great MMO, the community, it spanned over age groups decades apart, and we all had fun!
CoT is in development yet, with some form of the game tentatively being released fall of 2018. It's an all new game so sadly all your saved info won't be of use.

First off welcome to the CoT forums. :)
Second off the idea to ever "buy/license" CoH more or less died by some time back in 2013. Basically lot's of people (especially some of the folks here at MWM) tried to convince NCSoft to do something along those lines and nothing ever came of it. I think most everyone has accepted NCSoft will never budge on this, ever, thus the reason why several groups over the years have started working on what people have been calling "spiritual successors" to CoH that have nothing to do with NCSoft. There are actually several other projects like CoT being worked on as I type this, but my personal bias for which one will have the best chance is CoT. The others are not hard to find online if you're interested.
The good news is that MWM is currently expecting to launch their CoT by the end of this year. I'm not sure you'll be able to "upload" anything you currently have on a flash drive into this new game, but there should be nothing stopping you from "recreating" any character you had in CoH into the new game(s). I wouldn't expect any new version of those characters to be 100% identical because there will be many subtle differences between the way the game(s) will work. But the hope of course is that these spiritual successors will deliver an experience that will be as close to the original CoH as humanly (and presumably legally) possible.
Once again welcome to CoT. There's been plenty of discussion about CoT here for over 4 years now. If we're lucky the open beta testing should be starting within the next few months...

I can’t express enough how cool it is that COH players came from so very many age groups.
I remember thinking I was a bit old playing it in my thirties until I played with someone that told me they were in their sixties! I also had friends in their forties that loved to play it too. You know a game is great when the age range of it’s player base is so large!
"A sad spectacle. If they be inhabited, what a scope for misery and folly. If they be not inhabited, what a waste of space." ~ Thomas Carlyle
As a "relatively-old-at-least-chronologically" person I sometimes had the opposite surprise when I was reminded how young some players of games like CoH were.
Obviously I was always aware that many kids/teenagers were playing the game so I usually never overtly talked about "adult/mature" subjects when I was teamed up with brand new people I didn't know. But what caught me off guard sometimes was when I'd team up with some cool people and they'd be talking/playing in a fairly mature "grown-up" fashion and only after a few hours into it would they eventually claim that they were only like 10 or 12 years old. Some of these people chatted like they couldn't have been a day less than 40+. ;)
So I guess what I'm saying is that you never really know who/what you're chatting with unless you know them personally IRL.

I have been wondering about something. Will we be able to join one or more of the 48 some factions in game? will they be based on your alignment? or has it been brought up yet in general?
That's a good question.
They did mention that we will be able to build reputation with the factions. And we have been told unofficially that faction costumes may be unlocked at certain reputation levels. I suppose someone from the composition team might be able to tell us if joining a faction can be an option. But, personally, I'd rather not know the answer to that question. I think that would be too much of a plot spoiler.
Regarding alignment, the devs have said that it affects how NPCs will react to you, but that it is not related to your reputation. But despite this, I fully expect that some alignments will hamper your ability to improve your reputation with some factions. If only because you end up pissing off the NPC contacts you need to work with in order to increase said reputation.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
It wouldn't really call it a spoiler, since each faction would probably have a separate story-line if they went that route. But yeah the alignment would definitely be a factor when dealing with each faction. It just depends on how they are going to implement it.
On another note I always seem to forget to ask about the base system. We all know how great COX was with that. I was wondering if they have said anything about it. I love the DCU way of choosing buildings to enter base, but everything else they did really is bad. I miss the trick or treating door to door in COX lol.
The MWM Community Manager did post this in the Compilation thread:

I have a question? I'm not sure if this is copyrighted or not, but swtor has the legacy system is it possible to implement a version into game? Me as a severe Altaholic would be a godsend. Not necessarily in the way they use it, but a version of it.
Oh and keep forgetting to add. Can you please add a delete function to chat? Its frustrating to see all the useless chat even when you zone to another area. Its just simpler to delete lets say general chat whenever we want like when we zone. Its just a quality of life thing can be added later. People don't usually think of the little things that's why swtor is annoying, they don't take care of the little things we ask for.
(Is A tee shirt and jeans too hard to ask for lol)
I'll freely admit I've never played swtor. Could you provide a brief summary of its "legacy system" and/or exactly what you're suggesting for CoT?
IIRC, CoH had a way to manually "clear" all the text from a chat channel. I suppose they could link that to zone crossing but it might just be easier to clear the channel whenever you want with the manual command.

Wow that was fast! ok here is the wiki version:
The Legacy System is a game mechanic which links all of your characters on the same server together, and provides cross-character rewards and benefits.
The system is unlocked once your character has completed their starting planet class storyline. You MUST also be a minimum of 10th level, and you will then be able to designate a Legacy Last Name that is shared across all characters on that server, players can have identical Legacy Last Names.[1] You will also be allowed to create a family tree which is made up of other characters you have created on that server.
From this point forward, any and all characters on that server will contribute to that player's Legacy Experience Points. Much like normal experience points, when you reach certain Legacy thresholds, you will increase your Legacy Level.
Ref: http://swtor.wikia.com/wiki/Legacy_System
referencing because i want to do it right.
Basically all accomplishments are unlocked throughout your legacy. All the items and gear you bought through the store is open for all your toons. You can actually get gear etc through the market in a special UI. Usually for a price to unlock for whole legacy. Its a very nice add to a game i hope its not copyrighted.
Thanks for the info. It seems pretty clear that if CoT were to have anything remotely related to this that it would likely be very different from how this seems to work in swtor. Hopefully a Dev could comment on this but it would likely be safe to say this would be an "update for post-launch" at the very least.
I'll be completely honest when I say that in general I don't like the idea of systems like this. I tend to see my characters as completely unique individuals who ususally would not even know each other in-game much less be related to each other. But obviously that's just my opinion and the Devs of CoT might decide to do something like it regardless.

Now to be clear we already know that most anything bought in the CoT store will be unlocked "account wide" so that automatically means all characters on the account will get access to it. So that's at least something.
As far as "accomplishments" go there might be some that are going to be considered account-wide (like game anniversary badges) but for the most part many/most are supposed to be character-based. Just because you have one character earn a medal for saving the city doesn't mean that all of that character's brothers and cousins should get the same medal. ;)

This came up once before, but it didn't get much attention.
Regarding using SWTOR as a model in counterpoint to a flat account-based system of account unlocks:

Thank you i just thought I would throw it out there. I reeeealy want this game to blow everything out of the water per say. I was thinking in the frame of main kills X amount of faction, and you alt kills X amount it all adds up in the accomplishment bracket.
Again the Devs of CoT -might- decide to do something like that. Ideally if it happens such a system would be completely optional for those of us who'd like to consider our characters to be unique individuals as opposed to being multiple avatars of the player. I'm kind of old-school when it comes to these things - when my DnD fighter earned an accomplishment in one campaign the magic-user I rolled up a few years prior to that did NOT earn the same accomplishment just because they were both my characters. *shrugs*

One way we might do this, is to have such an achievement for a supergroup, and then you make all your heroes (or villains, or whatever) part of that group. It would be best (for purposes of this feature) if it were made easy to start a single-player supergroup, or for players to invite their other characters to a supergroup in which they already have a character with recruiting priveleges.

Yes I'd have much less of a problem with this as a group working towards a supergroup achievement than multiple personal characters earning an account based achievement.

There was actually quite a bit more to the legacy system. Increased XP in a variety of different content (overworld, dungeon and raid, etc.). Both unlock and faster recharge on quick travel powers, faster crafting, unlocking class specific buffs on the other classes, increased perks with companion npcs and so forth. For most categories it was a tiered system, locked behind level caps, story milestones and increasing masses of currency.
I wouldn't be opposed to something like this, but it would be a system for MUCH further down the development cycle.

Yes even Star Wars didnt implement it until recently, like 3 years after development. So no rush lol just putting it out there for future perusal .
Legacy allowed you to interconnect your work in the game at both the character and account level. Similar to WoW and other MMOs with achievements. From our previous posts, I gather some would dislike this meta game and a on/off switch would be appreciated in a CoT version. Probably a good idea but would require more time to implement.
An interesting part of the legacy system is the "Family Tree". It is an attempt to link characters on the account in an RP manner. You have choices of siblings, married, parent/child, rivals etc to denote different relationships. It has no other influence in the game or story and everyone on your account still was part of the legacy whether you were placed in the tree or not. I feel they could have done more to make that actually part of the game proper (e.g. your rival shows up in your storyline or your wife/husband, child becomes a sidekick or something...) but last I checked it is basically the same as it was when they launched it. A nice tip of the hat for RP more or less.
I found the legacy family part on SWTOR to be... Clunky at best. I don't think I actually used it and just had my characters as part of the legacy for the mechanical benefits.
I find it's a hindrance to RP, as I find it better to have other players' characters have connections to my character than my other characters.
Though it would be neat if we could set up our characters as arch-enemies. Have the other pop into missions sometimes, get to write some of their dialogue lines for like when they show up, half health, and then victory or defeat dialogues. Allowing us to easily change that would be good.

Yeah the family tree thing was somewhat lame because it didn’t mean or do anything. It felt like a feature that never got fully implemented.
I'm not really seeing how having a "family relationship" system being built into a game like CoT would really help much. It's not like you couldn't simply RP that your various characters are related to each other. *shrugs*

If you had read up on it, read Beeker's post, or thought a bit about how it could be implemented, before responding from the hip, you would know that no familial relationship is required to be part of the SWTOR legacy family tree. Allies and Rivals are also options.
Besides, if MWM would do something like this for CoT, I don't think it would be a cookie cutter implementation. We have actually discussed this as well in other threads. One of which discusses passing the baton, so-to-speak, from one hero to another; so that's an option. Another option would be mentor/mentee. Also, adopted parents and siblings is a very common occurrence in superhero stories. But, Ally and Rival are probably good enough for 90% of these connections.

I'm not really sure how it could have been implemented any better, with the idea of just using your own characters, really.
This character of mine is this character's parent? It just doesn't work for the class stories. All the stories in TOR are based around a late teen and early twenty character and all the stories happen at the same time :)
Which is weird that they give you old person options for like skin and stuff.
Dragon Age has a similar problem, they give you the tools to make an old ass man then as soon as you start "you are the youngest son of a noble house" and your character looks older than your parents.
As for the legacy system I'd prefer a thing that I can link other players' characters to mine, then get some kind of shared bonuses.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
Well, I'm sure it's for a the RPers who want to ignore the official story when it comes to their characters. Maybe the few who like to make the characters look exactly like them.
As for DA, no idea. I don't recall that being a multi player RPG game.
