Happy Valentine's Day

We swore to use the power of our Avatar Builder for Good, not Evil...

... We Failed. Happy Valentine's Day!

And, as an extra bonus, this week's scheduled update will be posted tomorrow. See you then.

Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.

As shockingly grotesque this

As shockingly grotesque as this character appeared the instant I looked at it (like Baby New Year level creepy) I forced myself to keep looking and realized there are some amazing details worth noting. The hair, the eyes, the textures and coloration of the skin all hint at a vast amount of potential for this character creation system. Thanks for the mixed barfy/nice feeling. :)

P.S. After a few more minutes of staring at this Lovecraftian horror I'm now getting a weird "fat Zapp Brannigan" vibe from this character. Kudos! ;)

Yeah maybe that's part of where I'm getting the Zapp Brannigan vibe from. I can imagine this character trying to act all "sexfully" and being just really creepy in a Pepé Le Pew sort of way. :)

Question (apologies if it has been answered before):

Will auras like this have some sort of density slider/option?

Increasing or decreasing the amount of hearts floating around, etc.

Agreed, there is a lot of real good detail here. The hair, the raised eyebrow, the smirk, the 'musculature', the suit material, the lighting.
At first glance on the first image, I wasn't sure if the character was wearing clothes. Can we vote this character to be the costume contest winner for February?

Also, what is the little "play" button at the bottom of each image (just right of center)?

Just part of the chargen UI

Just part of the chargen UI that doesn't hide when you use the Hide UI button. I think I should move it so it doesn't end up in the way when you get closer.

My guess would be a "spin control" so that you can spin the character around 360°. Many/most character creators have something like that but usually there's two of them (for left and right spin). Maybe the other one simply isn't there in this build. *shrugs*

EDIT: Seems I posted this the same time Shadow Elusive posted the post above. Since he didn't mention anything about it being a "spin control" I guess we can assume it isn't.

Maybe that's the "joke" here - this character could be CoT's version of what happens when Fabio:

I once asked for an example

I once asked for an example of the most grotesque character that can currently be created, back six or seven iterations of the character creator. This surpasses what I was given by a factor I'd rather not give the specifics of - mainly to protect everyone else's sanity.

It is only when we stand up, with all our failings and sufferings, and try to support others rather than withdraw into ourselves, that we can fully live the life of community.

Someone made a quick gif, but the play button is a Chargen feature, it's there at all times. Hide UI doesn't hide it, presumably so you can admire it 360 after you've hidden the distractions. I need to move it so it doesn't end up over the character when you zoom in though.

Do I have to kill him to unlock that aura or do we just get it free. Either way is fine on my path to use any means necessary to rid the world of villains worse than myself, and those between me and my goals, and a little collateral damage, maybe a few heroes. What I'm getting at here is acceptable losses are they necessary to acquire that aura?

Since this thread derailed to mention Karl Urban playing McCoy I'll just chime in to say that out of all the JJTrek cast I tend to think Urban did just about the best job "recreating" his character vis-à-vis the original actor.

Karl's done great in a bunch of movies but one of my favorites of his happens to be a superhero movie: Judge Dredd

[img=600x600]https://static1.squarespace.com/static/51b3dc8ee4b051b96ceb10de/t/5aa080e7e2c4830bd8f77dd6/1520468201509/?format=2500w[/img]

This was a wonderfully awesome little movie... it even had Cersei Lannister (a.k.a. Lena Headey) as the big bad:

Karl's done great in a bunch of movies but one of my favorites of his happens to be a superhero movie: Judge Dredd

This was a wonderfully awesome little movie... it even had Cersei Lannister (a.k.a. Lena Headey) as the big bad:

I agree, Karl is a pretty good actor. This reminds me of the new Robocop actor and his hand-wavy interview response about why his character had to show his full face (impossible otherwise to convey emotion). Strange that he never watched Karl Urban in Judge Dredd.

I liked Karl best in Almost Human. That show was canceled way, way too early.

Damn, I forgot about Almost Human. I loved that show. Michael Ealy was good in that too.

Unlike Stallone's semi-silly attempt at Judge Dredd I liked how Karl never once removed his helmet throughout the entire movie. I'm not a super dedicated fan of the character but IIRC in the comics basically Dredd is never shown without his helmet. I think the idea is that it's supposed to "dehumanize" him to make him seem more like a pure unstoppable "force of justice" than just a mere "human being".

Yeah another "one season wonder" (e.g. Firefly). Heard it was the classic combo of costing too much per episode versus not good enough ratings. That show was doing a really good job setting up a long term story that looked really interesting but never got resolved. Even in the last episode there was a brand new hint that the city was surrounded by a wall that kept out this mysterious "wasteland" that never got explained. Maybe if shows like these had started as part of a streaming service (i.e. Netflix) they would have survived.

I've never found that excuse to be the case, but rather the actors just want to show their face.

I once read a funny interview about a classic 1970's kids sci-fi show called [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ark_II]Ark II[/url]. There was an episode where they went to this place that had this toxic goo stuff that made all the characters grow old. Turns out the main male actor guy supposedly had some kind of clause in his contract where he wasn't allowed to "look bad" in any way so his character got to avoid the effects of "looking" old. Apparently the main female actor of the show didn't have the same clause (or maybe she ultimately didn't mind) so they made her look old until they found the cure at the end of the episode. Talk about being a vain m-fer lol.

Ow!, to the original post.

Ow!, to the original post.

Thank you Lothic for bringing up Ark II ! Strangely I was trying to recall the name of the show a few days ago. I loved the premise as a 9-year-old. It probably contributed to my decision to pursue geology from the age of 14. From what little remains on the internet I suspect I'd do best to stick with my fond memories and not watch it again.

Also I think you should turn

Also I think you should turn down the Aura, but also keep that level of hearts for power aesthetics, like I would just love to just burst down a random wall, scream "STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE" and start blasting people with hearts

I watched "Ark 2" as a child.

I watched "Ark 2" as a child. I think I watched it when I was in the same age Range as Airhead. I was already a tech and science junky by then so it didn't contribute much to any motiviations. I still liked the show even though even at that age I was still a bit skeptical of its premise.

Turns out one of my many side hobbies is collecting old obscure TV shows. Some years ago I managed to find DVD box sets for shows like Ark II along with other contemporary classics like [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_of_Star_Command]Jason of Star Command[/url]. Like you guys I vaguely remembered these shows from watching them as a kid.

As you guys suspected the "fond memories" tended to be much better than the re-watching of these shows as a semi-jaded adult. For instance out of the 15 Ark II episodes there were maybe only 2 or 3 of them that were vaguely engaging. Still you have to keep in mind the original target audience was like maybe 8 to 12 year olds so there's not much that can be done about that.

I find I like watching these shows now more from a "retro-historical" point of view just to see what it was like for people to think what "the future" was going to be like back in the 70s and 80s. Also every once in a while you can spot super-young versions of actors who have since become famous for many other things. For instance if you ever watch the short-lived [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logan%27s_Run_%28TV_series%29]Logan's Run TV series[/url] you'll see that Kim Cattrall guest stared in one of the episodes back when she was probably barely 20.

Good gravy are those -actual- nose hairs or just some weird lighting side-effect? Either way they at least "look" like nose hairs.

If this game ends up with a "nose hair length slider" I'm going to LMAO. :)

I remember in the past it was said animated hair grappling attacks (like Medusa of Marvel’s Inhumans) are out of the question. So no nose hair grappling either...? :(

Like the opening post, I too

Like the opening post, I too have a goofy, male, Valentine's-oriented character: Soldier of Love. Here's his pic from the old CoH days...

[img]http://s1378.photobucket.com/user/HatutZeraze/media/SoldierOfLove2_zpso6qx9bol.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0[/img]

EDIT: Ugh. That didn't work. I just wasted way too much time trying to figure out how the BBCode works for images and THEN trying to set up a place on the internet so that the codes can access them. I did something wrong, but I can't take the time to figure it out right now. I am supposed to be getting ready for work.
