Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

Trust me, I share your frustration--the wait is killing me, and I have to constantly try not to agonize while waiting for any morsel of information.

Looks like they dumped their ambitious idea and went with the standard default pets with no customization. They did not mention this in a while and I had to dig up that thread so I assume the idea is scrapped.

Gotta admit, that's something I like about CoT's development cycle - No promises they haven't already fulfilled.

I doubt it'll be a serious issue when someone brings it up, but promising a feature and then failing to make good on it sucks.

OH! AND I forgot to mention that Quants and Voids preferentially targeted Khelds--at least at first. Hence you getting zapped immediately, Nos.

It was bonkers as a punitive weakness for a class that was introduced after they really understood how to balance, and so was balanced into mediocrity when it came to overall power level.

Don't get me wrong, they were fun and versatile, and not weak, but they weren't particularly strong either, and they were impossible to get into the upper echelons of build power.

Whenever I saw a quantum enemy spawn, I'd always target it first. Those jerks deserved it anyways, and it generally got me friends among the Kheldians.

Is anyone buying their updates? Those progression charts could merely be some figures thrown together and do not really say much. I think they are just trying to save face because CoT and SoH have been throwing out updates with great consistency.

Tune in folks, should be good.

"Weren't ready to livestream this weekend, but might do one this week. We're setting up at https://www.twitch.tv/silverhelmstudios"

Typical of them to be disorganized. One of the supporter asked for a time and day, I am like duh! Why would they announce a livetsream for this week with no date?! Why do I feel like this video is going to be a S-Show?

None of these showings has been impressive, lets see what this one brings. If they release it, you never know with Slither-Helm. They are not strangers to deceiving or misleading their supporters.

I've gotta say I love some of the names you have been coming up with when discussing VO. Slither-Helm Studios made me chuckle. And I believe it was you who said Vaporware Online in another thread.

Also thanks for sharing this. I, too, had stopped following this due to focusing on other things on there being a dearth of information, other than the news of the shakeup in their art team. Now I can watch
more closely to see if this stream actually happens; wish they had given a date though.

Livestream aint happening I suppose. Typical VO, they did not change. These little snippets they give is lip service top appease the notion of transparency. When it comes down to the meat, they announce a feature, then fail to mention it for days until people eventually forget about it. Gotta love these people. They seem like an awesome group to deal with as a player.

This is why I prefer CoT's devs and their design stuff - They never actually tell us anything unless they have the proof for it set up and it can be guaranteed to get into the game.

I think one key question that should be asked is if they plan to have all that in their game by launch time. If they are letting it sound like they are going to have all that working on Day One then they're likely stretching the "truth" a bit too much.

The guys at CoT are promising a whole bunch of stuff as well, but at least they are reasonably telling us that much of it won't likely happen until AFTER launch.

Quoting:

Quoting:

1) Completed the basic layout for South and North Skyeline using prototype world elements (lightweight art seen in the latest screenshots).

2) Started replacing the prototype elements with final game assets.

3) Started the reconstruction of the City Hall building platform to reflect that of the concept art.

4) Started building lots and platforms for South Skyeline architecture.

5) Completed road decal for Skyeline.

6) Completed development of four unique interior tilesets.

7) Completed development of one unique player housing tileset.

8) Completed development of one unique player base tileset.

9) Started development of visual effects and sound effects for four power sets.

10) Started development of safe-zone bots to neutralize mobs that find their way into safe areas; increased the population of law enforcement spawns around safe-zones as well.

11) Completed the latest phase of the traffic and pedestrian system.

12) Started development of a new gear-centric system to allow for weapons, clothes, and armors to be more easily accessible and changeable; gear will remain purely aesthetic but can be swapped at anytime as long as it is in the character's inventory.

13) Completed the latest optimization of the male character and his customizations; a new character customization video is in production showing in detail the use of the new male morphing sliders.

14) Started the latest optimization pass of the female character and her customizations.

15) Completed development of the Soldier Commander pet controller power set.

16) Started development of the Sidekick and Ninja Assassins pet controller power set; developed a lite version of the Dual Warblade power set to accommodate the Ninja Assassins power set.

17) Started development of the weapon customization and pet customization panels for the Character Generator.

The last one caught my eye. I gotta see it to believe it.

Yeah guys, I am slowly

Yeah guys, I am slowly starting to wonder if they are actually the ones with the highest potential. Lets think about this, they have

An animation video that was stellar, the best I have seen so far but it is not in-game.

A vast assortment of weapons, Nunchucks!

Pet generator, which will have an assortment of options.

Allow various body types, like quadrupedal.

Grappling

Destructible environments

Their armor work looks nifty too

We are not talking the best super hero themed game here, we are talking one of the possible best mmo. These features are quite new, Crowfall is the only other mmo with quadrupedal models, and Vindictus is the only one with grappling and one of the few with destructible environments.

Again it does -sound- good and if they can have ALL that working by the time they launch that'll be great.

I just continue to wonder if what'll actually happen is that they'll have maybe 25-50% of all that working by launch and it'll be another year or two before the rest of it falls into line. Not saying that scenario would necessarily be a horrible thing - just suggesting that if they keep implying that ALL of it will be working by launch and it isn't that'll be at the very least "misleading".

To be fair, "best" is personally defined by someone's preferences. It may have all the features that you find attractive, but I have literally zero f***s to give about quadrupedal models or grappling. Any of these games can liberally make claims that their game is going to have this feature or that feature, and sure, eventually it could. In my limited opinion, as I don't hold a degree or have any experience in game development or business management, it stinks of promised feature creep which could slow development and potentially pushes off the game's launch. Or those promised features or capabilities fall through entirely because they couldn't get it to develop correctly or within time.
And that's not necessarily just a dig at VO, any of the games out there, including this one, could possibly be guilty of this. One really can't say until the respective games get closer to launch.

The main thing that smells a bit "fishy" to me about everything that's been listed and/or promised for VO is my historical experience with CoH.

Let me try to put it this way: VO seems to be promising to have MANY MORE features at launch than what CoH managed to produce even after it had been up and running for 8.5 years. It's simply hard to imagine they (or anyone) would be able pack that much content into a brand new game in such a relatively short period of time. I guess "time" will tell. *shrugs*

I feel similarly, they seem to be promising A LOT so early, but, hey they've already been an indie gave dev, so maybe they can have an accelerated timeline.

LotRO has good quadruped models for the Horses and the most Accurate Locomotion (for those horses) that I've seen in any game. They even jump fairly correctly.

Yep, did not know about that one.

IF, big if, they can pull it off, they can be a top tier mmo. Nothing they shown alludes to them doing any of their claims. This is what smells fishy to me. Like the animation video, it was on the unity store for crying out loud. Nothing they do seems legit.I am going to try to give them a chance.

For the record I'm not necessarily saying that VO will never be a game that offers ALL the features they claim it'll have. I just think'll be many YEARS before it's even possible unless they somehow have like 2 or 3 times as many Devs working on it than CoH EVER had. I obviously could be wrong about this and if I am then I'd be quite willing to accept being wrong considering it'd mean they would have pulled off a virtual miracle in the process.

Phararri wrote:

I know you can ride horses in LotRO and I know they have dozens of types of horses. I'm not sure you can play the game as one (i.e. as a centaur or anything remotely like that).

All I know is, the development team (all two of them) never responds to my emails and for some reason I can no longer access their forums. So, I guess I'll have to wait and see along with everyone else.

I was not impressed by their last "pre-Alpha" build. Nor does their storytelling appeal to me. But we'll see.

Slitherhelm strikes again.

Slitherhelm strikes again. Did they ban you maybe? That is the only thing I can think of that can prevent anyone from accessing a forum of any kind.

So they still don't reply to emails? As I thought, the whole better transparency sham was just an attempt to repair their image. Behind the scenes, they still don't give a damn. They only do this lore garbage on their time to give off the impression they care, but they still have no intentions on taking the customer seriously. Look at the SH FB page, last activity was September 2016.

Like I said, something about these folks do not seem authentic or legit.

I was speaking hypothetically, I have no faith in these people, they are deceiving, inconsistent, act like snakes, deliver false information, take money while shunning donator's concerns, etc, etc. You want my honest opinion? I am thinking of spreading the word about these people. People should know what they are all about before they invest their money here. Even investors in the economic realm have a right to know what is going on and not be left out of the loop.Differences, I get it, but still.

Yeah I was just heated, I am not going to trash them like that. It just makes me angry when people are dishonest. I don't want to see them on EA, people like this destroy the image of EA. Or what is left of EA after the Ark debacle. EA is about a constant flow of communication, VO is already giving me the prototypical abandoned project vibe.

Early Access, apparently. Not sure why it needs compression.

I'm not thrilled with the other projects. But I will note that COT devs did ask about the combat style not too recently. Something most thought would be darn near locked down at this point. Which is a bit more targeted than "what's important" Still it's not inspiring from either dev. There's probably more subtle ways to get those answers. Maybe it's just an indie dev thing. Something they need to do more publicly than a larger dev might.

Yeah, I don't think that necessarily means it's not "mostly"(tm) locked down, but probably more like they're trying to get a feel for the general reaction to their combat style and looking for feedback while making "final" (pre-alpha/beta) adjustments.

1) We focused primarily on

1) We focused primarily on Character Generator debugging and feature implementation.

- Improved the progressive flow of character creation.
- Fixed major and minor bugs.
- Partially finished the implementation of the new male character model.
- Improved server data pipeline.

2) Improved character shaders.

- Implemented new eye shader for natural eyes.
- Implemented new new hair shader.
- Implemented new skin shader.
- Developed new shader set system for customization elements.

3) Improved locomotion animations.

4) Improved combat animations.

- Increased combat animation speed significantly.

5) Added new visual effects for power sets.

6) Developed inversed kinematic tech to aid in the implementation of the Tentacle power set.

7) Further developed the starting area.

- Expanded the western area of Skyeline.
- Created concept art for the area surrounding Skyeline.

It kind of like, ok, prove it. They say a lot that is for sure. So they have a pet generator, grappling, destructable environments, nunchucks, and a tentacle power set. Not really buying this but if they actually pull this off VO will be a big time mmo, but they won't pull it off.

All these improved/added

All these improved/added/implemented bullet-points looks good on paper but since we don't have a before and after comparison we can't say how big the difference actually is.

As far as I can tell we still don't have any good grasp of how the underlying mechanics are built, and thus by extension the potential modularity, so at present it looks like CoT is much more future proof and efficient in how it handles their in-game assets.

You have been saying the same things now for over a year and a half. It's like you are desperately trying to make something true through sheer repetition.
Yet you support a game whose latest update treats polygon decimation as if it were the second coming.

So far the only thing you can reasonably accuse VO of is changing their proposed release dates (too common in games to be indication of anything, even CoT did this) and their lack of frequent updates (again common in most game development). They have shown time and again they are making progress, albeit slow progress.

You have a hate boner for VO and it is turning you into a caricature of concern.

What I find more "puzzling"

What I find more "puzzling" there is that somehow robots can't be made from anything else than electrical systems and that those systems are always exposed enough so that water, which is actually surprisingly non-conductive (it's the dissolved ions that make it conductive), has a much higher effect on it and electric attacks a moderately higher effect on it.
And what's up with the "inarticulate dialog" detriment? I mean, in regards to conversations anyone can be inarticulate at times.

It seems to me that using the benefits&detriments system will limit ones options for character concepts rather than expand upon them due to the pigeonholing effect it has.

If you do something akin to that, you have to give positives and negatives. My guess is, other powers can be taken to cancel out the negatives.

Look at the description under

Look at the description under Robotic. Enhance… enhance…

Quote:

+ Option to disable the organic breathing animation
+ Able to function without impairment in no-oxygen areas
+ Highly resistant to standard organic poisons and toxins

OK, that all makes good sense. Nice to have the no-breathing option.

Quote:

- Highly vulnerable to water-based attacks
- Moderately vulnerable to electricity-based attacks

Again, choices that make sense. Allowing players to choose which elemental attack is more hazardous would be nice. If you want to play a '50s pulp sci-fi robot or you've seen too much Wonder Twins-era Superfriends, water makes sense as the greater hazard, but electricity is more realistic.

Quote:

- Inarticulate conversation dialog occasionally

And now we've fallen completely over into arm-flailing "DANGER WILL ROBINSON" tropes. If I was writing in character as my CO main (who would certainly use the Robotic attribute if I remade her in VO) right now, I'd be breaking the profanity filter. That's a serious set of RP handcuffs right there. Even if the game's lore strongly defines the capabilities of AI in their future setting, there's equally justifiable reasons for players to exceed the limits of the lore. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The best superhero games are character sandboxes.

This is EXACTLY the problem I have with any kind of Ad/DisAd system in a game like this.

The problem is that in a "computer game" setting you're essentially forced to accept specific hardwired details that may or may not fit in with your overall character concept. What if you wanted a robot in VO that speaks perfect English 100% of the time? Apparently you couldn't have that.

This concept CAN work in a table-top RPG setting because the player and GM can work out the precise details of any "benefits/detriments" you want to define for your characters. In fact the table-top Champions RPG basically relies on its core system of Ads/DisAds as a foundation of character creation.

So in computer games instead of being a usefully dynamic scheme to expand roleplay opportunities what a benefits/detriments system usually devolves into is an exercise in min/maxing where the players don't bother with RP ramifications and simply pick the best choices that maximize their specific combat potentials while minimizing the downsides to the point of insignificance.

I'm with you there. The more attributes like this they force on the player, the less likely the character will match what the player actually wants it to be.

I think instead of packaging all three benefits and all three detriments together in one, it would be better if they were to break them up in to three balanced pairs of one benefit and one detriment each. Then the player picks one or more of these pairs to suit the player's chartacter design concept. So if you don't like the speech detriment, you don't choose the pair with that in it. And if you don't have parts susceptible to water, you don't choose that one either. Actually more akin to the idea I had in post #461

In this case I wouldn't include the breathing animation toggle as a benefit, I would include that as a neutral option available regardless of benefits or detriments chosen.

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

You offer some helpful suggestions to make the idea "better" in a computer game environment but I still think even as matched pairs of "pros/cons" the system would still devolve into a FotM min/max situation. Very few (if any) would stick to the "ideal" of only picking the options that best fit their character concepts, especially if any of your pairs offered an unbalanced "far better pro than con" scenario.

Huckleberry wrote:

Yeah I'd probably actually be a little miffed if they threw emote/stance type things in with a system like this. I'm sure I could probably find a way to have a character concept that wasn't a robot AND didn't breathe and it would suck if the only way I could get the "no breathing" animation option was to have to pick being a robot.

It's also something close to what I was working on for fun if I made my own MMO (where everyone gets a defense set but they then choose pluses and minuses ect) However, the idea in that is, it'd make a Fire Blaster/SR (example) really cringe at fighting a Whatever/Fire Armor in a PvP map, as the FA would likely just stand there laughing. :p

I like that. It wouldn't necessarily be good in a 1v1 arena environment, but in an open PvP or large team battleground, I think that level of strength versus weakness adds a great mix and really tests players' ability to work with allies.

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

While I don't recall, I think a Fire Armor generally did that in PvP in CoH versus a Fire Blaster anyways, but I'm not 100% on that.

They are definitely hiding this game. SoH and Cot continue to release animations in action, VO seems to shy away from that.

Those are pretty nice looking images. They are in Alpha so maybe they are hoping some of the testers hype it. I have seen some videos but haven't been overly excited yet.

They do look pretty awesome but those look like the npc heroes where placed in there. So are they implying if a npc wears it you can wear it too?

Maybe they're just holding off until stuff is more beta-quality.

Has anyone seen my mind? It was right here...

I recall the huge stink that their first released videos caused. I'd think that Everybody would have learned their lessons from that.

The models look solid. BUT, how does it play? Those clips of combat looked garbo. NPC are looking good, they are definitely hiding most player models and any video clips tho.

Yeah. I personally haven't liked the look of anything they've put out so far. But individual taste varies.

Haven't care for it's look

Haven't care for it's look yet either, but I'm saving final judgement for the actual release.

I checked out the alphas when

I checked out the alphas when they were open to be played. The one thing I don't like about the game and it will keep me away from it is this: All the characters look like Plastic Barbie Dolls. Even the clothes. Everything looks like it is made of vinyl.

Can't look at it for any length of time, let alone play it.

That is all in the Shader. Shader work is usually done near the end of Beta. To give an example of how Shaders can affect how something looks, we made this example last year, using our Version 10 player model:

Do you happen to still have versions 1-9? It would be interesting to see an evolution photo. But I could see why you wouldn't want to do that.

I imagine it to look

I imagine it to look something like the Ripley cloning vats from Alien Resurrection. We'd see a version with elbows that bend the wrong way. A version with only one eye. A version where the flesh peels back from their face whenever you emote. Some horrors should remain hidden behind closed doors.

I do, actually. Perhaps could be an update when the time comes.

Nah, it's not just shader.

Nah, for me it's not just shader. Something about their models just bugs me. Actually I think it's lots of little things. Maybe they'll fix it.

Kind of where I am at but I have little faith they will release. I will reserve my final judgement though.

Livestream is planned for

Livestream is planned for Saturday, meaning there will be no livestream on Saturday. In case you do happen to look out your window and see a flying pig, Saturday is the day to stand by your windows folks. Don't count on it though.

There will be pet powers on the stream too. Looks like more over-promises but lets wait and see.The models look decent enough. I have never been one to not play a game due to the visuals but their gameplay needs some serious work. I don't know how they improved so much since February but who am I? Not even a fly on the wall.

A lot to be impressed about.

A lot to be impressed about. But they are still a far way from finish. I would like to see more polish in their city props, animations and characters. Right now I still find those aspect off putting.
I am happy with their near future city design. It's familiar enough to be recognizable without being derivative.
