Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

I am REFUSING to play a Ranger until the Gunner comes out.

There is nothing wrong with solo play in an MMO.

I couldn't agree more.

The assertion a number of people have made on this thread, however, is that Blasters were indeed solo-able as designed in the old game.

EDIT: Anyway it's a moot point because MWM has said that with the right mix of primaries, secondaries, and tertiaries, people who want a glass cannon will be able to make one, while people who want a ranged character with more defence can have that. Everybody wins!

Spurn all ye kindle.

This is primary in response

This is primary in response to Player2's post #91 above, but is written for anyone who is coming into this fresh.

I don't think squishy ranged characters are squishy to promote group play. Maybe they would be in games that rely on a trinity or something like it. But in City of Titans, which is supposed to be the game City if Heroes would be if it were being made today, there is absolutely no reliance on any kind of trinity or roles system. All the content should be perfectly doable by any archetype or combination of archetypes. So any arguments to the contrary should be nipped in the bud before they have a chance to bloom.

Rather, the reason that ranged characters are more squishy is because of game balance. Not only do our ranged offense archetype (the Ranger) cause more damage than all but the melee offense archetype (the Enforcer), which is probably on par with the Ranger; but it also has the additional benefit of being able to attack at a distance. Ranged attacks means that the other archetypes have to weather attacks by the Ranger before they can ever get in any attacks. As a result, Rangers have to be more squishy than most other archetypes for the sole reason of providing balance. Maybe balance is the wrong term because it appears as if when you say it you mean somehow that it requires teaming. So let me use another word: parity. Rangers are more squishy to provide parity with the other archetypes.

But let's not stop there.

Archetypes in City of Titans also have a Secondary Power Set (called a specification). Rangers will have a support specification at launch, which means they will typically be able to buff and debuff and maybe even provide heals, depending on which support power set they pick. This specification of the Ranger is called a Partisan. The Gunner we have been discussing is a Specification of Ranger that uses a protection power set as its second power set instead of support. So in order to get these protections, they give up the Partisan's buffs, debuffs and heals that would otherwise come with the support power set. It seems to be a fair trade-off to me, but most of all it is still balanced. (there is still parity with the other archetypes)

I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.

You know, there is an answer

You know, there is an answer to this.
All the power sets should be roughly balanced, be it melee, ranged, defense, control, support, healing, etc.
So primary power set operates at 100%, and your secondary at 80% or so (or whatever the game designers feel is appropriate).
If you wish to pick ranged/defense, that should be no more OP than ranged/melee or ranged/support, or whatever.
People have said that you HAVE to have strategy, or you SHOULD use their build, or you MUST be playing for certain reasons. Come on guys, this is not just an MMO, its also an RPG!
I have a concept, a mutant/inhuman character with telekinesis. Inside his body it manipulates cells and molecules to effect regeneration, and shields cells and organs for invulnerability (the old 'will power' defense), out side of his body it acts as a kinetic push, thus granting him flight and kinetic blasts. This is solid secondary/primary power concept based on TK. I can, and have, written stories on such a character. Yet folks seam convinced that I MUST play a guy with no defense if he's ranged. Thats for me to decide, not anyone else. I'm trying to be reasonable here, let ME define my characters.

As a side note.
You can further balance this if, say, ranged powers lose accuracy in melee combat (I agree that this is an optional thought and might not fit into the 'spiritual successor' phrase that's cried out whenever somebody has a new idea).
At this stage, you pick your first and second power sets, and basically, if your first set is defense, then you are a tank and your second set does mega agro.
again, this is all just my own thinking, and the game will almost certainly not work this way, I'm just postulating here.
