Green Latern universe themed roleplay groups.

I'm a huge GLU (Green Lantern Universe) fan, and was wondering if anyone shared the love, and wanted to fire up some supergroups/guilds/clans whatever, with me. Was thinking of all spectrums and trying to organize massive rp influence on group to group battles, ie Green vs Yellow vs Red etc.

We could use everything The Blackest Night introduced and run with our own story.

Welcome to suggestions and critiquing.

Time to put the helmet back on.

Well, I'll point out the obvious. City of Titans doesn't want to get legislated out of existence, so for the sake of respecting someone else's copyright, I'd recommend you call it something else. Even if your intent within your group of friends is something similar, it's not like you can't come up with a totally new backstory to explain why there are people with the same kind of powers. If you can't, then you really aren't putting any effort into it.

Oh, I had every intention of renaming and reimaging it. Just the basis and idea of the Green Laterns.

Though I'm not a big comic buff, the GLU has always been one of my favorite concepts in comics and the short lived Green Lantern animated series I was a really big fan of (then it got canceled) so I would be interested in something like this.

Now that I'm at my computer,

Now that I'm at my computer, not my phone. I'm able to put more depth into this idea.

First of all, the naming, we obviously can't use "Green Lantern" or "Green Lantern Corps".
So I was exploring ideas like something as simple as "The Greens" and "The Reds". Really sticking to the color bases.

And as for a basic story to follow, or at least get the ball rolling would be picking up and going a different direction than the actual story did.

So, any and all who are interested pick your color and write your story!

For those who don't know, the color all represent an emotion, which allows them to access their power.
(I don't think using the same emotions, attached to the same colors as the actual story is a conflict, but if it is, so be it, we can always modify.)

Green - Willpower
The 'good guys' of the spectrum, hated by Red and Yellow.

Yellow - Fear
The 'bad guys' they go around the universe spreading terror and fear to draw in it's power, and wage war on green.

Red - Rage
Dead on the inside, and trying to make everyone the same. They fight for vengeance, even if it's not theirs to be had. All their rage stems from their hatred for green.

Blue - Hope
They're the pacifists of this whole ordeal, they greatly boost the power of green, and are powerless without one. Healers and caregivers, ally to whomever welcomes them.

Violet - Love
An all female group going around spreading love, in the most violent way possible. At war with anyone who opposes their ideas of ultimate love.

Indigo - Compassion
An unknown bunch. They harness the power of which ever color is near them. They hate and love everyone at the same time.

Orange - Avarice
Shiny, pretty, brilliant. If you have it, they want it, and they will bring down an immense amount of power to take it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that can see the appeal in supergroups revolving around those ideals, or something similar.
But it'll need alot of involvement to get full effect.

So the more we get in, the better!

Time to put the helmet back on.

So are we not using the blacks and whites then since they don't represent emotion? just wanting to make clear if you're excluding them from your list on purpose or not

So in theory, at least, these groups should be open to recruiting characters even without solid light / energy constructs, right? So long as they maintain the color scheme? Or would you expect their actual powers to reflect this color scheme?

That'd be one way to establish this as its own thing rather than a Lantern generic group.

Of course, I'm not sure you'd even have to limit it to a color scheme if you're getting away from the Lantern Corps concept.. If a character qualifies and their 'sidekick' character doesn't, would you want the sidekick allowed in the group?

Have you considered color groups that represent something other than an emotion?

I suggest using Gems instead

I suggest using Gems instead of Lanterns or simply colors. The color of a gem is what powers the avatar...and fuels the Gem wars.

Might be a good idea to suggest the Devs add large gems that can be affixed to a costume or a sword or staff, worn as a necklace or even held in a fist...I kinda like that last picture of holding up a fist sized gem and firing rays out of it.

Oh, you mean like Marvel's Dr. Spectrum of the Squadron Supreme? I smell another Marvel / Disney lawsuit coming on.

Good try, though...

Well...auras then. COT will likely sell auras. But once you have one, you can color it to your choice.

replacement for Rings.

replacement for Rings.
Bracers with inset gems, one if possible, two if we have no choice.
Staffs, with elaborate end pieces. Matching staves would be cool, but not needed. Think the Nemesis staff from COH.
Metal headbands with inset gems...like Star Saphire only different. or just a gem set into a forehead.
Amulets of a particular design..
Metal collars: you scream or spit the energy blasts
Floating objects, hovering over your shoulders...like the emerald queen, but these are not shaped like eyes. These are the firing points.

the last one floating gems or geometric objects might carry the flavor the best.
But a league wielding the same staffs might be intimidating as well.

I hope interest in this group hasn't died out. we still have a year to go and the devs would have an easy time coming up with floating object.pets.

I would participate. Maybe

I would participate. Maybe you could name each group after the color gem (The Emerald Guardians, Ruby Guardians, Onyx Guardians) The item could even be a belt. CoH had that one belt with the circular jewel like center.

Will you have open or closed

Will you have open or closed membership?

Somehow, I don't think you'd want a Dex Starr wannabe walking in off the street.

Something to think about.

At the moment the group exists in theory only. It never went beyond the concept stage.
Still its looks fun.

Wait, wait, wait... what if

Wait, wait, wait... what if the power ring replacement wasn't a piece of jewelry but rather somethin comes in the form the weapon the user is most comfortable wielding? Like what if there are these stones that, when they find someone worthy, they turn into a weapon that the bearer can use most efficiently that only they can touch, and that's what they use to channel their powers, what about that

not my video just one I lke ===> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6-SdIN0hsM

that could work as well. I think the unifying theme really ought to be the colored aura like the Lantern shield.
I found this on DA, https://black-falcon01.deviantart.com/art/Meet-GAMMAKNIGHT-78474710

He's got the aura (and its different from the Lantern force field)
He has inset gems in bracers and chest plate (color match with the aura)
and he has your weapon concept.

all the powers of the lanterns can be expressed as the player chooses with the powers available. some lanterns are more physical, while others express all the powers of ranged, support, and control.

this is a group concept that can work at launch

I'd reassign the colours

I'd reassign the colours (mainly because Will being green is unique to Green Lantern comics, and Will isn't an emotion), but I do like the idea of them being named after gems and having appropriately-coloured auras.
Maybe not limit the violet group to females, though? They aren't even all female in DC's version (and it doesn't make sense in either universe, what with love not being unique to females AND the existence of people & aliens with more or no gender...). Maybe use actual purple instead of pink, too. >.>

Just my 2 pence. Feel free to disregard, of course.
