He looks to the waitress "Captain Mako's Rum and coke for me, and what ever my friend here would like." Then to Theo "Oh I'm still experimenting just I'm now on the production side of things. Got an idea of a drug that induces dreaming. The ultimate virtual reality lucid dreaming anytime you want... well so far it causing comas and death. Last test subject was better off he did slip into a dream state. Also walked in front of a bus, not enough power in the drug to settle down the body enough to prevent sleep walking." Stops talking and seems to be thinking on the problem he even started drawing glowing marks in the air before wiping them away into mist. "Oh well I figure it out eventually. Then I be making real gold, the big cash reward kind."

2.) If it goes as planned it's not good RP
"I'll have the same. It seems fortune has smiled on you today. Recently I acquired a sample of a substance that may solve your coma and death problem. I didn't get much detail but that was a minor setback. Are you familiar with the EdenTech project Liquid Light?"
Theo shifted as he pulled a vial from his hoodie pocket. It was clear casing and the substance inside had a yellow luminescent hue. "It's not radioactive piss I can assure you."
“The story so far: In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.” -Douglas Adams
"That would be a rather...interesting invention, coming from such tight laced labcoats, hmm?" A calm, if not naturally sultry voice would greet the men, it's owner that of a beautiful asian woman with a veil of rich black waves rolling down to her upper back, a black denim jacket, grey halter top, and pair of equally morose black jeans. Upon her neck, complimenting her fairly toned skin is a metal sheen tightly clapsed ornate amulet, it's face that or a striking and rather chilling cobra.
It's eyes appear to be a dimly gliding pair of piercing emerald gems, the woman's eyes a similar pallor, sans the luminescent qualities. Focusing on her face, they would spy that her pupils are in fact....serpentine themselves?
Standing before them is the mysterious assassin only known as Lady Krait, who's scant detectable connections include a possible high ranking membership within the Taiwanese branch of the Triad within the Eastern Hemisphere. Sauntering towards them in a pair of fashionable black pumps, she speaks again, this time trailing her previously hidden claws against the bar's edge, infamous for secreting deadly toxins of her own design at a whim...
"I hope you'll forgive the interruption? It's been a rather dull evening on my end."
Theo quickly turned his focus to Lady Krait. His defenses went high at her sudden appearance. The most subtle of growls escaped his lips as he shifted. Why did i not sense her? I'm getting sloppy! He watched her move along the bar and realized why he had not perceived her. Ah, a snake at heart. I could have use for a snake. "Ah, no, as I was saying, I don't have many details yet. What I know is firsthand experience: it restored a whore's stolen youthful vitality, there's a vial with the EdenTech logo, and the words Liquid Light printed on it."
He stood and moved to place the vial on the bar. Away from his hands, the yellow shade faded brighter to a pale almost white hue. Theo knew letting go of it, even if just placing it on the bar near him, would imply this wasn't the only sample. Perhaps that would be enough to be a carrot on a stick. "Oh and one more thing, the affects appear to be temporary, but it lasts long enough."
Lady Krait smirks at Theo, simply offering a grin that reads she knows what he is up to before speaking...
"I don't poison my body with such substances, but I am rather.....flattered by your sale's pitch." Her tone implies that she had another few words in mind before adding with a sinister smile...
"I prefer to make such substances myself, mind you with much more...deprimental after effects."
Reuther, the entrepreneurial mob boss enters the bar with his young lackey CP by his side as always. He noticed the group making deals and even picked upon the mention of a vial that can restore youth, though his youth is not something he eagerly wants back he may find something that can help with his own research and business. He clears his throat behind his gas mask cover face and approaches the Theo "I hope I'm not interrupting anything but when I see business I can't help myself sometimes," he pulls up a chair to the table and offers a hand shake "the name's Reuther, you might of heard of me."

Not a telepath... Oh how they compensate... He glanced down, holding back the his initial snark, "It's not for sale and that's not my trade. Besides, I wouldn't take you as one interested, given your own...blessings," He meant the hesitation and the wording to be a compliment. "I assume such substance comes from within?"
He took his drink and moved back to the chair, conspicuously leaving the vial resting on the bar. "I wouldn't trust putting anything in my body that came from EdenTech, but even I must admit this one is different."
Reuther had entered almost perfectly timed with his thoughts changing course and topic. Theo cautiously shook the man's hands, keeping active what mental defenses he felt necessary. He set the drink down and promptly flicked his hand to bring the vial off the bar and flying into his hand. Uncaring who saw his display, he pocketed the vial back into his hoodie and sat down. "I can't say I've heard of you, so you're either very good or very new to the trade."
"Very new in town, perhaps you should do some research on the work i've done in new york or england." Though not too recently though... he thought ((sorry for jumping the gun earlier))
"Now selling substances of various uses is my hobby in a way. If I may I would like to examine this Liquid light in my lab. My own formula kept me going for more then one natural life time so I do believe I'm ahead of EdinTech on that matter. Still a closer look might help me improve my methods." He nods to Lady Krait then to Reuther "Well seems it must be a slow day for us to get such attention. A pleasure meeting you both."
((it's cool - I tried to take down my initial response quick enough to account for yours. we must have hit post at the same time and the server chose yours so I edited. This works well!))
"Now before we get carried away, I'm not sure there is any business here," he looked around at the gathered crew and considered everyone's motives and interests. "Do we all share a mutual interest in chemistry? I'm curious what this can do, how it mixes, and identify the source. In exchange for a lead into your dream substance, I'm interested to know what we can learn about EdenTech's plans for Liquid Light."
He redrew the vials from his pockets and handed it to Joshua. In a surprise form, he placed the last two he had on-hand in grabbing distance of Reuther and Lady Krait respectively. "Show of good faith..."
Reuther directs CP to take the vile. "I piratically wrote the book on modern chemistry, you should have seen the crazy stuff I made during the war. Though I am a bit rusty after I started moving towards robotics a simply anti-aging subtance shouldn't be too much trouble. This liquid light however, what makes you so interested in it?"
Theo stared back for a moment before he finally smiled. "My business is my own. I'm sure you'd devise plans with the substance you would keep quiet as well?"
Reuther paused for a moment before pointing to his mask "You see this? During a blitzkrieg I suffered a horrible accident in my lab, this accident fused my mask to my skin and made me like this. All my attempts to find a solvent that can undo the process has failed and over time I've grown accustom to my new life. Still though I try to find a solution to it, this anti-aging vile probably won't help me but if this Liquid Light can I want to know about it. So know that I've told you a little piece of information I've been sitting on all I ask is for you to tell me what liquid light is." He clearly was hiding something behind his motives but what he has said is at least the truth, he's just hoping he can find a way to get information on liquid light without paying for it.
"Coll story, bro. I said this earlier but I'll repeat myself to clue you in. I know three things about this substance. It brought some vitality back to a whore, it comes from EdenTech, and it's called Liquid Light. Beyond that, I'm in the dark. So now the four of us know all the details I can provide on this," Theo spelled out clearly. There was a tact in his voice that revealed he wasn't afraid of the older and experienced.
"Well it's not alot to go on, but let's get started shall we? CP get that vile ready I want to run some tests. You can come with me to my lab if you want or we can go into the field and see the effect in action if that's more your taste."
"Or Option three. We go up to my lab, part chemistry part mystical, as for any true alchemist lab. Thought I too wouldn't mind seeing a live reaction to this liquid light. Hmm I wonder if one of the properties is indeed the Solid Light substance? Light Photons manipulated in such away they bonded together. Naw such a thing wouldn't have any benefits in a body would cause more harm then good. Perhaps a stimulant to the Mitochondrion."
"I've already seen the effects firsthand. I suspect EdenTech has done most of the legwork on the scientific side. I'm interested in door number 3." Theo said, sitting up. He adjusted himself slightly only for the basic modesty purposes ingrained from wearing kilts most of his adulthood. "I didn't get much out of the guy that had these on him obviously. At first I suspected a bioluminescent bacteria but not after the way it reacted to the whore."
"Well did you notice any negative reactions, or have a way to tell if any spring up? I mean it could take days or months for the side effects to show up...I assume we can't just ring your first subject up and ask if she's grown a second head, there are however some rats just outside by the dumpster." He turns to CP "Would you be so kind to take a cage and go capture a few, be sure to try and get large age range on them, i want to see what happens to the very old an very young." turning back to the table "Small mammals tend to have a faster metabolism then humans, meaning any side effects would show there faces sooner rather than later."
"Good point and for the added benefit if we test on rats. We can see if it does have an affect on the young as in pre-maturity. Aging happens in stages after all, stage one is rapid growth, stage two is maturity where growth stops but the cellular reproduction healthy, final is decline where new sells are slightly damaged then the originals.. How old was that whore of did you really know? " Joshua was now in full scientist mode thinking at rapid speed even if Theo tried to read his mind it would be jumping from possible to another rapidly drawing up information about magic and biology. "I'm curious what would happen if we also included a plant in the testing. Having a different biology then animals."
The waitress brought the drinks and Joshua downed his. Now not caring about relaxing. "As my favorite cartoon character Dexter would say 'To the lab!' You would need to come with me I live on the very top floor."
He rose from his seat and placed a twenty on the table for the drinks and tips. "When your man got the rats he can alert ...Ratz at the office to send him up to the penthouse."
CP came down with a few rat cages, ones he is 'borrowing' from the the maintenance closet (they must have a real rat problem), three of them that could probably have a couble stuffed in at a time. At the sight of Joshua's enthusiasm "Strange one that is, boss" he noted before going out the back door to the dumpster. Reuther got up "Shouldn't take him more then a few minutes, well let's not waist time, he knows where to go." ((200th post wooo))
Theo appeared genuinely eager to discover more about his new discovery. He was surprised at himself for not reading anyone's mind yet. Now it seemed he was too invested to bother with motives. "Oh she was barely twenty but looked like she'd been exposed to that trade for quite a few years. The only real noticeable impact was her vitality. She got...happy. Had a glow about her like she had received the best news." He shuddered. "Disgusting. Visibly I only observed the lifting of spirits and the fading of drug-wrath. ..Y'now, a general ...vitality. Like she wanted to live again."
He followed Joshua to the elevator, having slammed his drink like a pro. "Anyone have a dead plant in their apartment? I haven't bothered with any."
Lady Krait smiles to Theo as she offers, taking the vial and rolling it within the claws of her right hand absetmindedly...
"I do produce my own substances, toxins, venoms and the like...and if I may inquire, speaking of her in past tense implies that she is no longer living, correct?" Asks TK with an unmistakable smirk before adding, turning to Reuther...
"And I must say it's a pleasure to see you again Reuther, CP." With that said, she turns to Joshua with a chilling grin...
"Perhaps I can be of assistance in declassifying this substance?"
Theo smirks back at her knowingly. DUHH
"You two know each other? Makes sense that you both popped up about the same time." Theo mused aloud. He fought his urge to scan their brains, not wishing to play that card too early.
"As you may find i have many acquaintances in this area, and i plan to make quite a few more." Reuther replied.
"Meeting people always seem to lead to interesting things. Heck I wouldn't be alive today if it I hadn't met Contessa Nocturne." When the elevator door opens on the top floor they would see the penthouse. The main room was round in the center was an obelisk made of black crystalline stone much like smoky quarts. However unlike smoky quarts there seems to be faces and figures within the stone, but as soon as you focus on them fully the figures fade. "Be ever so humble there is no place like home. The labs are to the right, my living quarters are to the left." He lead them to the lab section many of the equipment would be recognized some however wouldn't be. A mix of Magic and science elements were everywhere and seemingly in no real order. The place hints at his eccentric mind. "Hmm ah we can use this table." He begins to move a few things off a table. There was another room they can see where a glass coffin was laying with tubes and even electronic equipment set up.
When he spots the door open he headed over and close it "Don't worry about that room. I got a lot of random stuff laying about."
Lady Krait chuckles as she comments to TK...
"Pity, would have liked to experiment a bit with her myself pre mortem with some of my own concoctions...but what's done is done." With that said she takes a languid, purposeful stride through the abode, her enhanced senses attempting to catch every scant detail, before inquiring to Joshua...
"My forte is science, botany, toxicology and virology...why mesh with the arcane? And what about Contessa Nocturne?"
Reuther lingers on the mystery door for a second thinking Funny almost reminds me of what I had to keep him in . He then gets to work getting familiar with the lab environment. He eagerly looks around and takes off his normal coat to put on a hanging lab coat, he jumps from device to device making precise mental notes of whats around "I say this equipment is extraordinary! Is this a mark 5 laser image-scope, I've only got a chance to work with the mark 2, and what about this? Oh and a re-atomizer, funny I've never seen this model, it this custom made? Oh that alchemy table reminds me of the one Newton himself used. My my I feel like I'm 40 again, forgive my giddiness.
"Oh me and the Contessa had a bit of a partnership way back. A you scratch my back and I scratch yours thing." He looked around "Well it goes back to the history of science Lady Krait. Once Magic was the way of the land those who could wield it held the power. For some unknown reason that power faded some even say magic itself faded and weakened. Religion came in to filled the void, and with it came the religious wars. Thought it not known commonly now a days but once science and religion worked hand in hand. Religious leaders were the scientist of their time, they had the teachings and the time to study. They used Science to take out the fragments of the old cults and orders."
"There was a third group those that combined Science, Spirituality, and Magic into one study. Much of chemistry and your toxicology roots were started in alchemy. Of course our own pride and lack of understanding, not to mention a few scam artists, led to our downfall. Believe in magic continued to fall till it was a faint whisper, science started looking into things beyond what the religious leaders wanted to know. So the split between Science and Religion happened."
"Science is the study of the physical world right on down to the molecular structures, Religion is the faith and believe in the spiritual world, and Magic is the harnessing and study of the mystical or energy world. Only Alchemy tries to combined all three to truly grasp and utilize the universe. Magic and Spirits have been recorded and documented now. There is no denying that they exist. So why not try to grasp all of creation, instead of just the physical?"
"I'm sure if I'd been more open minded to possibilities she'd still be alive...in some definition. She was just...too happy for me to stomach. Either she had to go or my lunch did." He trailed Krait in the tour around the room, often catching things she seemed to linger on that he would have otherwise overlooked in haste. The blunt tone of his voice implied a relaxation into some shell or bubble of safety. He had locked down his mind and stopped thinking so loudly. He was certain no one was really listening or even pretending to hide reactions. He didn't trust the magical devices wouldn't provide such talents and kept his guards at highest resistance.
If things go well, this could be quite a lucrative venture...
Laughs at Reuther's giddiness "Oh do enjoy yourself. One of the benefits of being owner of this establishment, easy to come by expendable income. Sadly that's just a Mark 4, having a little trouble with the red tape to get the mark 5 model. Yes that a custom job, many years of fine tuning ultimately lead me to just go ahead and work something of my own up. Thought I didn't build it myself I do have connections that were able to get the requirements I needed."
Shakes his head "Figures hundreds of years of alchemist trying to make gold, and here science found out how to do it and figured out it wasn't worth it." "Newton a touch of a reclusive fellow. Great mind, thought he was a tad obsessive over the bible."
CP enters the flat while the others are busy talking, he just walks in, places the rat cages on the table and stands aside. There are roughly seven specimens he managed to capture, a frail old one suffering a broken leg that's barely alive, a much younger female rodent with a frail form from mail nutrition, another two of them seem to be from the same litter and are pure white instead of the same grey the other strays are...perhaps they used to be pets, another brown one is curled in the corner of the cage coughing perhaps having a cold of some kind, there's a young male with a clipped ear who other then being a little too fat is in perfect health, the last one seems to be heavily pregnant and perhaps would even birth a litter within a day...if she has that long that is. Reuther was too busy going on about his favorite alchemists and talk of his own quite embarrassing failures to recreate the philosopher stone to realize that CP had even entered until CP clears his voice. "Hm? Oh the specimens! Good job my boy," He pulls out a pair of rubber gloves he stretches over his hands "well then, let's start the science."
"Well Theo how did the late lady of the evening taken this liquid light. Orally or via injection?" He looked over the rats "I kind of like the brown on he looks like a fighter; sick thought, still he been through a few scrapes judging by the ear and over all heath. The female that looks pregnant might be interesting to see if the effects get passed onto the liter."
"Oh, I convinced her to self medicate with a needle." Theo said with a hint of nihilism.
He walked over to the rats and picked up a gray one sitting slightly separated from the main group. "This one. He's got some brains and he's sick.." He looked at the many options and realized something grander, "I -er...we- may need to get more samples..."
"How so? I don't imagine CP's efficiency has disappointed you."
"Or do you mean more samples of the liquid light?" He looked at the test subjects "Hmm come to think about it more test subjects would be useful. Can never have enough experiments. CP done a fine job, just it seems Theo's curiosity is growing."
He moved over to what looked at first to be a sealed testing chamber. That was proven wrong when he opened the sealed door. Inside were set of rings each with gemstones of various types mounted on the rings in the center was a holding apparatus. "Well lets see if this stuff has any magical traces. This is a device of my own making I call it a crystalomitor. It works by crystals, magic has traces energy wavelength and crystals vibrate at different speeds. If I seal a magical artifact in this device the crystals will respond to the magical forces. So a magical artifact that was made using blood or dark magic would affect different crystals then one using divine holy magic." He moved a digital display "The hard part was figuring out how to get a clean reading with out outside energies affecting it. So Theo how about putting one of the vile inside and we see if it hums."
"Haha, yes, more vials... This is plenty of rats. Well, plenty of rats for now at least," Theo commented as he approached the crystalomitor and set his own vial inside the machine for it to react. Various crystals reacted, but no one crystal indicated the primary school. The crystals that did react, even faintly, were marked as divine, elemental, blood, or white. "I honestly have no idea what this means."
Eyeing the various artifices about them, Lady Krait remarks as her eyes glow briefly as she examines the vial of Liquid Light...
"Distilled with a base of water at the very least, all I can tell for now regarding it's contents." She then turns to Reuther, reaching to pull on a available pair of latex gloves if they are offered, methodically. With that done she inquires to Reuther...
"Now, require anything of me?"
He hands her a pair of gloves ."Yes actually, help me to inject these rats with the liquid light. We shall start with those two white ones, since they seem to be in good health they should serve as a decent control." He look around the room a bit and finds seven glass boxes, which he bring to the table "after injected they should go in here and CP will make notes of how there bodies react to the injection over time." Reuther then motions to the cage containing the two white rats nearly ready to open it "make sure you grab them from their bellies, try not to let them escape and try not to get bitten."
"Well the readings are interesting. The compound not magical in itself but been exposed to magic. White magic is strongest with some divine and elemental, what interesting is traces of blood magic that normally more on the darker side of the magical spectrum."
He looked over "This should be interesting. Given the size of our test subjects let start with a small amount, even more so given we have a limited supply. Say 1 ml to start with?"
"We'll inject the first of the twins with a .5ml sample and the second with a 1ml sample, agreed?"
Theo shrugs and looks over the rats, still manipulating the gray one in his hands, " Use what you want, but we do have a limited supply for now. Do we have the stuff to produce more here while I go acquire more off the back of a truck?"
"Not really sure. So far we know it's not purely magical thought traces of magic is in the liquid light. That and it's distilled with water. I'm starting to wonder if these samples are derivatives of a more pure source. Maybe a field trip is on order... hmm.. " He got a dazed look.
"Oh it wasn't Dexter that said to the lab he used laboratory. It's the Test sisters from Johnny Test who always say To the Lab" why he switched gears like just another example of how scrambled his thinking really is.
"I wonder how hard it is to get into Eden Tech research records." Then he was back adding a very small sample onto a slider and putting it in the electron microscope. "Hmm seems almost biological in makeup."
Lady Krait nods to Reuther, and quickly but gently takes the pair of rats in her hands and injects them with the proper amount, brushing them towards CP as she muses...
"Done, we should see a metabolic change first if I'm correct?"
CP places them into different glass boxes as Reuther with a notepad nods "Yes you are correct, now watch them carefully."
The two white rats, already healthy, showed minimal improvements. Both displayed a delayed reactions at the same speed, however the intensity was clearly different. The rat with only half the dose showed only moderate changes in activity levels and shine on the coat. The full dose rat showed intense changes that elevated this wild vermin to the healthy status levels expected in a suburban pet rat. It was practically adorable.
The behavior of the half dosed rat seemed only curious in its surroundings and was otherwise dismissed of interesting behavior. The full dosed rat was visibly aware of the individuals and attempted to climb out to explore the observers better. It pawed at the glass walls; pining for more connection. It grew quickly frustrated it could not connect and started to cry out for contact. Upon full anguish it fell back into the box and wallowed, still looking into their eyes and reaching out for contact.
"Well that was interesting and sadly a side effect I wouldn't want. At the same time I bet this stuff is great at parties." He reached down and petted the full dosed rat behind the ears. "Full psychological manifestation, assuming these white rats were pets at one time it could account for the behavior. Lets test on one of old one now it clearly hasn't been humanized at all. Wonder if the reaction the same."
The full-dosed rat immediately reacted positively. At first it merely sniffed and explored the new hand but quickly threw its caution to the wind and grabbed the fingers to nuzzle them. If the hand lingered too long the rat would begin climbing up the arm.
Theo began to realize some of the deeper effects of the drug he boosted earlier explained why he actually thought the sight was adorable. He did well to maintain his deeper rooted disgust, outwardly conflicted with a mild adoration. "Pretty sure this means a full ml is too much."
The half-dosed rat seemed to behave as a regular lab rat; docile and resting in its high.
Meanwhile, Theo returned his attention to the vermin in his hands, now starting to squirm and struggle. He loosened his grip and the creature proceeded to scurry in his hand and climb up to his shoulder. In close proximity, Theo felt the sentience of the rat and attempted to imprint his dominance onto the creature. His efforts felt inhibited slightly, especially trying to keep the attempts from prompting anyone or any artifact from the power spike.
CP took down detailed notes on a tablet as Reuther chuckled a bit at how the others were reacted to them as he went and started petting the half dosed one "seems we all have a bit of soft spot don't we? I do hope that these rats don't get a spike in intelligence or we may get what happened in Nimh all over again," he looked around the room and noticed no one really understood his reference "you know like in The Secret of Nimh? Anyone? Good movie you should watch it."
"Oh those rats were just inflated egos. Really I didn't see any difference between them and the so called wild animals. They all seem to understand time 'Moving day' and even used garments. Thought the understanding of physics and electronics was the only sign that the Rats in the secret of Nimh were any smarter then any of the other animals. Thought that could be just a higher knowledge not higher intelligence." He removed his hand from the affected what "I wonder, what would happen to a person when exposed to a high dose. If it turned a street rat into something that craves affection... like I said I bet this be a blast at parties."
"Come to think about it. If this stuff can be inhaled and we can get it into say a gas grenade it would make a devastating weapon. Just think about it toss a few of the light grenades into a bank or any building and the people inside would be graveling for your approval. Like the 1 ccs injected rat. Oh can we name him Pinky!"
"You know I was just thinking the same thing!...about how this can improve my gas grenades i mean, not the mouse's name."
Theo quietly rolled his eyes at the visual reactions from the dosing. "The way you two are behaving...haha. Does the serum have some proxy effect or something?"
He moved over to some of the more magically driven devices in the room holding up his personal vial to see what he could discover. "Do any of these scry? I think it's time I go seek out the source of our new toy."
"I fear Scrying is one thing I haven't figured out. Seems the art needs a hand more fine tuned tot he magical arts then I could reproduce." He smirked as he looked at Reuther "We just enjoying the possibilities of this drug." Then to Theo "See" He reached down stroked the affected rat and then quickly snapped it's neck "Trust, love, kindness, all tools of the trade. As well as some of the most destructive." He picked up the rat and looked at it "now for an autopsy. As for finding the source I don't have an idea. Think we need a more mundane means of tracking it down."
"Over the course of the few weeks I've been in town I've acquired quite a few acquaintances, if none of you have one in mind I can see who I can contact that has suitable experience in magical arts."
Theo smiled with the satisfaction everyone had a mild soft spot for the great results. He approached the autopsy table as Joshua began cutting open the barely cooling rat, turning his eyes to Rheuter. "That could work. I know the site I pulled it from but there's not much else to use from that place, but at least we can rule that out if it crops up as the location..."
"Okay rapid regeneration not part of the benefits. Draw a tad of blood from the old one before we inject it. That way we can compare blood samples." He used a magnifying glass as he performed the autopsy. "I wonder if we can reverse the magical polarities.. well that can be tested after we get more samples."
"Not a problem," he signals to CP who puts his hand in to pick up the old rat, in the process the young male with the clipped ear managed to scratch and bite at CP's hand as he pulled the old one out, however CP doesn't even notice and the rodent leaves no marks on him. He takes a small sample of blood from the old one then injects the crippled rat before placing him in another glass case.
Lady Krait simply chuckles as the rat's life is ended, beforehand not even offering a smirk in the slightest at the rodent's antics, commenting as she strides over to the autopsy table...
"Hmmph, imagine what a second full dose would have done. Doesn't matter now, but I was also wondering if I may have a closer look at it's blood once contained?"
He held up a vile with the withdrawn blood "First thing I done was get as much of the blood as I could. As for over dosing well that why we have more test subjects." Looking over "I would like to harm the brown one a bit something not fatal. So we can see if this stuff has regenerative properties when administered."
"Sounds like a plan, though the old one already has a broken leg so why not lets see what happens with him first?" He injects the old one with the serum.
The old one showed a delay in outward changes, and seemed unphased. The rat suddenly seized and convulsed, foaming and screeching in pure agony. The rodent fell unconscious as the serum saturated to the surface. The old mottled fur restored to a satin finish, but the bare patches remained bare. The broken leg was repaired, but it had poorly set. The rat diminished into short rapid breaths before it eventually slowed.
Theo knew firsthand what had happened and showed no surprise on his face. He moved to put the rat back in the cages to confirm he could at minimum "I'm not doing much here, so I'm gonna head out and try to get some leads. Here's the number to my newest burner. Let me know if you have any contacts I can meet, any leads I can check out."
"Good idea Theo. Oh.." pulls out a card from his pocket and flicks it over. "My number." He then starts discarding Pinky's remains "Seems there no major biological changes from what I can tell. Everything seems to be on the cellular level. Going by the old man's results it seems we have rejuvenation with very minor regeneration. The bone healed, but not to prebrake conditions and the hair roots that were no longer working still aren't growing new hair."
He tapped his chin thinking "I wonder what an undiluted dose would cause."
Lady Krait nods to Theo, simply remarking...
"I'll find you if we have need of you." With that terse statement, she goes back to examining the rat with serpentine, microscopic vision.
"If you don't mind, CP can accompany you. His services are not necessary at this point in the procedure anyway."
"Sure, as long as he doesn't get in my way," Theo said, offering a smile that betrayed his crazy went a bit deeper under the surface. He nodded to Joshua as he plugged the number into his phone under a random code for the contact. As he left with CP following behind, he winked to Lady Krait, "It's truly a pleasure to meet you all under our shared interest. I'll be in touch."
Downstairs, Theo loosened his control on his crazy a little bit. With a slightly wild eye he turned to CP. "So! I have an idea where we should go to start, but that scryer will be helpful for a lead past that. Do you or your...whatever-he-is-to-you have a car or something? Seeing a guy fly in to this site might get some attention we don't want just yet. I don't think I've heard you talk. Do you talk?"
CP seemed to glaze past the personal questions as he replied "My mentor has a car in the garage, it's an old model from the 40s but it would work just fine." they get to the car as CP open the passenger door for Theo "Just say where you wish to head and I will drive us there."
Theo was a not entirely surprised when CP started talking, but glad to think the conversation on this trip wouldn't be one-sided.
"Head to the Northeastern Research District," Theo stated as he got comfortable in the vintage model. "The lab was offsite from the BioCampus. I expect the place is swarming with security if there's anything left."
Although vintage the vehicle had a few select modifications, such as select defense systems and a GPS. CP put his hand on the GPS and closed his eyes as he 'talked' to it, after a few seconds it found the perfect route to the location. "I suspect it would be better for us to sneak past the security then? Even if they can be taken down easily it would be best for the company not to know what we are doing."
"Eh, sneak through or fight through either way. I got past them once so I bet they'd be pissed if we got through that way again." Theo joked while watching the concrete jungle pass by. "There may be another way in though, depends how much is blocked off."
"And this way would be?"
Theo almost looked embarrassed to admit it, "I uh, sweet-talked a scientist to bring me in after hours to show off what she was working on. We could probably lift a few badges and coats from any off-duty tech or guard though."
"Sounds like a good plan," he reached for a hidden compartment under the dashboard and pulled out a case "once the badges are in our possession we will forge our pictures onto them with he equipment in here."
"So now that we played a bit with the juice what your two take on it? On top of that do you think we can expect Theo to lead us to a nice stash?"
"I think that brown one is coughing, probably has a cold so we can see if it affects the infection, we also still need to test that pregnant one and see what happens there, plus we still need to see if any side effects make present within the next few days." Reuther said as he flicked through his notes and added a few more "Though it does look like a very promising substance, I have a few dealers in mind I can easily sell this to."
"Well we still don't know if we can produce a version that's vaporized for gas weaponry. Or if it can be inhaled would the dose be strong enough to produce the results in Pinky. Anyway if the brown one foams at the mouth like the old one then I want to get a sample of that foam." He blinked and turned his head to look at a mirror "You shut up now. This doesn't concern you."
At first it would seem he was talking to his reflection. However if one looked at the mirror it only reflected Joshua and the image was not mirroring him but seemed to be acting on it's own. Shaking his head Josh looked at the other two people in the room "Don't mind him, my late twin brother. A little experiment in my youth trapped his soul in the mirror. It was technically a failure that so wasn't the result I was going for. However like Edison said 'I didn't fail I simply discovered a thousand ways of not to make a light bulb."
Reuther dropped what he was doing to observe the mirror for a moment, he however did take a few more notes in his little notebook but one's about Joshua and not the rats "I never had a brother so I wouldn't know...but, if you don't mind me suggesting, I know a witch or two that might be able to help with his...condition. That is: if you are interested."
"Stop here. The lab is 2 blocks away in that direction," Theo pointed, exhuding a hint of excitement. "So...Fair warning bud, I get inside people's minds. Now I'll try not to go peeking around in yours, but if you got any psychic blockers... I'd recommend them if you wanna maintain some privacy or status quo we got going here. So, Take my saying this as a gesture I'm not trying to cross ya. You're useful, and I'd hate to lose your boss' knowledge and skills on this project over a misunderstanding."
He nodded the question you follow me? to CP expecting little response if any. He turned to look out into the streets to see who was walking along. One of them had to know today's password and have their guards down. Then again maybe he was sloppy and they'd be on their guard with their own tin-foil hats as required attire today.
The gray rat that had spent time on Theo's shoulder scurried about in the cages, keeping to his personal corner. There was a building tension among the rats as they attempted to escape or assert dominance, protection, and isolation of their own kind for the animalistic order.
Joshua looked confused as if the idea of freeing his brother never dawned on him. "Why? I mean after all he been there since...oh the 13th-century or was it the 14th. Well anyway he would have been dead long ago, and I'm not sure he's even alive anymore. Besides he's annoying enough somehow lately he learned how to move from Mirror to mirror so he not stuck to our old family mirror. I can hear him because we were twins. If he came out again I doubt he understand modern English, or the modern world in general." The mirror where Nickolas appeared was now back to a normal mirror.
CP nods back but makes a note on the telepathy "I can talk to machines, and that's because I think like a machine. This mind is not one that can be read, at least not by someone who doesn't know my language."
Theo shifted a bit in the passenger seat shaking out his arms, "OK well, like I said it's not intended to be an assault or anything."
Theo relaxed his mind and peered out through his gifted sight. He could see the shapes of everyone moving. They were on the street in their cars, hovering and thinking, they were walking and bobbing along the sidewalks, some mindlessly moving, others deep in thought on something, and only one was really watching anyone, and the mind was too distorted to read. Fortunately he recognized the spatial relationship that implied it was CP. Theo didn't linger too long, and moved his focus to one of the weaker minds on the sidewalk.
Sitting in the car, Theo appeared to be listening to a tune that only he could hear. His eyes were closed and his eyes darted around behind the lids. His fingers floated around almost like he would be playing the piano with how they flexed and bent. That is, until his middle finger hooked inward and he curled his hand to the left. Outside, a person zoned out on their smartphone made a sudden sharp turn into traffic and promptly caused a scuffle as the car stopped short only to get rear-ended from a tailgater, "That's our cue."
Theo stepped out of the car and moved down the sidewalk, half-focused on guaranteeing everyone's attention was on the car accident, half focused on staying obstructed. As he moved down the sidewalk, he kept his mindsight searching for any trouble spots. So far, no one had any psychic barriers up. He could see the entrance to the lab, and two guards posted had only the standard issue anti-psych patch on the helmet. He whispered to CP, "Looks like those two tweedles need a different distraction than I can provide."
"I'll see what I can do." CP reached into his jacket to pull out a tablet, he placed his hand on the surface as his eyes glowed a slight green as ones and zeros zoomed past his cornea, the screen on the tablet shuffled through window after window of techno-babel, it stopped once it opened onto a screen with an encrypted window as the tablet kept going through different frequencies on it until it found the frequency for the radios they had on them. He then spoke into the tablet as a voice manipulation software made his voice going through the radio sound stronger and more authoritative "Attention all staff, you are all invited to join us in the lab rec center as we have a very special birthday we'd like to celebrate today."
After amount the first guard turned to the second "Another meeting, can you believe this?" he second guard turned to him and replied "I know...I can't believe the boss remembered my birthday!" The second guard dashed inside with the first waiting a bit a little confused before going in after him "Hey wait for me."
CP put the collapsible tablet back into his jacket "You can be pretty surprised at what gets the job done sometimes."
Theo grinned at the potential such a skill could have; how much chaos it would ensue. "Awesome!"
He did a quick scan of the city block confirming no one was looking. Just as the door was about to close, TK raised his hand slightly and propped it open. Another smile to CP, which he assumed would be making a note of the other skills he had before moving into the building. Through the door was a basic stark white lobby with clinical metal finish. The receptionist looked up to be promptly whammied by Theo. "Hey darlin.' Can you tell us what room they've got the liquid light research in?"
"Sure, it's 21C upstairs and to the back," She said half dazed and slurred.
"Didn't you hear there was cake in the rec center?" Theo instructed. In response, she lazily stood up and walked off down another hallway. Theo turned to CP and looked up the stairs, "Hmm... did your trick just handle the guards or will more be headed this direction?"
"The message had to be broadcast on their radio system, anyone with a walkies-talkie would have gotten the memo."
Theo mused as he used his mindsight to see how many might be coming down the hallway. There were only a few scientists not wearing any tin foil hats that would block his sight. "Seems like most of them heard it too. Hardly anyone in the halls."
Theo walked to the door and waited. A lab technician was finally in proximity for a whammy and he pushed the same thought on him as he did the receptionist. Shouldn't you be getting the cake in the rec center? The moment the tech badged through, Theo held the door open and walked through, holding it for CP.
CP walked through after him "I hope you have a plan."
"Ehh, sure? Figured a basic drive through would work as long as we cover our tracks and..." Theo whammied the approaching scientists and chuckled as they grabbed hands to run to the nearest janitor's closet "...make sure no one remembers we were here. Can you hack the cameras and wipe the feed?"
Theo continued down the hallway, not seeming to care if others were alerted to his presence. There was a slight hiccup when he turned a corner and a security tech called out, "Sir I need to see your badge."
Theo looked at CP, "I guess this one didn't like cake?"
CP takes a second to look around, making sure no one was near by and waits for the security camera to turn away. "Did I stutter?" The guard moves in closer "I said-" in a brisk moment CP swings his leg around to trip him, he catches him on the shirt so he doesn't crash into the floor. The guard reached for his taser as CP grabbed his hand as it reaches the taser, he turned it toward his leg and tased him knocking him out.
CP hoists the unconscious guard onto his shoulder and opens the janitor closest "I assume you can wipe his mind if I take care of the implant?"
"Absolutely! I may even find out some nice details once that block is removed." Theo said in earnest.
CP removes his head gear and places both his hands across his skull, CP nods letting him no that the implant is offline "I may need his suite, some of these security systems have all the recorded information burnt onto discs. I'm going to have to find the monitor room and destroy the discs if you want me to be completely thorough."
"Fine with me," Theo said getting right to his task once the block was removed. With his own hands placed on the guard's forehead, Theo began his assault. Theo explored the guard's mind to find he was a health nut, and in fact hated cake for being unhealthy. He had a wife and two kids, loved riding his bike, camping, all sorts of other innocent details. Searching his mind further he found the information CP needed.
"Monitor Room is 14H. Almost directly below us now. You'll need his badge too, looks to be encrypted with a DNA sequence...and a retinal scan. Oh and his name is Philip Baggio if anyone calls out for that," Theo continued in the guard's mind searching for information on Liquid Light and the lab itself.
The guard knew little on Liquid Light, but had detailed knowledge of his previous assault and the apparent coverup of what was taken. While he didn't suspect Philip had a photographic memory, the knowledge of what resided in those case files was abundant. Outwardly he furrowed his brow to show his disappointment. Theo kept searching. Next he found information on the room. As suspected, increased security measures were in place but unknown to most of the techs or scientists. Suddenly a phrase became very apparent that connected everything, "Got it. Next I'll need to peek inside a scientist and get more information on a project Lucent Dawn"
