The man once holding the crossbow, fell back as his armor was easily peirced by Kevahl. He was still alive but he was spewing blood, He chokec and coughed and writhed on the ground.
The other guard stumbled with the arrow in his leg. He had his sword drawn but his shock and terror were obvious. He tried to diflect the blow from Grozz but failed as he was just simply overpowered. Grozz blades bit into his arm and gut and dropped him fast. He was also still alive, but nonetheless useless. The gut wound would be a slow and painful death.

The blades sunk deep as the humans were in no shape to really fight at all. The body fell lifeless and still. surrounding the three now were remnants of a battle. Orcs, goblins, humans, gnolls, and Derro , were scattered about. (derro are dark , evil dwarves).
When examined there were mainly two symbols on all the armor, sheilds. The first was an orc skull with enlarged tusks. Any orc/goblin in the area would recognoze this as the banner for the tribe of the fang. The second was unknown, it was just an odd what looked like dead tree. The men wore this symbol, as well as the gnolls, the derro, and a few of the orcs.

Kevahl slung his arbalest and walked out along the branch. When it started to give under his weight, he swung down and did a hang-drop. He went over to check on the Orc the humans had dropped.

Grozz cleaned his falcatas on the tabard of one of the dead men and sheathed them, then went and retrieved his shortbow. He arrived at the living orc just a few seconds after Kevahl.

the orc was badly wounded, it was a toos up if it would even survive. "Who do you fight for?" is all it managed to say before choking and spewing more blood. It was stil alive , barely and every few seconds it coughed and choked on its own blood. It's wounds were deep , including one in its side and one in its neck. It had been hacked at with an orc weapon, they could tell, the damage was too jagged to be a smooth clean edge the humans carried.

Grib knelt down looking at the armor of the ones with the odd symbol. What he was looking for was the quality of the armor. Armor that pieced together would mean a poor group, armor that's good but different for each person with no similarities would hint at mercenaries, if they were mostly the same style well then not just wealthy but strong group. Of course at the same time he was rummaging in pockets and bags.

The armor grib examined wasn't matched. The derro that wore the dead tree symbol all had matching armor, but the humans didnt. The few orcs that wore the symbol had standard tribal orcish armor. The only clear thing was these two groups fought. As grib was searching hed find bags of coins tough. All the dead tree warrioirs had maching coin purses with small silver and copper coins that were identicaly marked with the same dead tree symbol. upon examining one of the older humans, Grib would find a small book. This human carried only a staff and sling.

The near dead orc spoke up again in orcish as it lay there bleeding. "Who do you fight for?" it asked again.

"Ourselves, our families, our friends, and our tribe. Who did you fight for?" Kevahl cut strips from the clothing of the dead humans and bound the Orc's wounds. He didn't think it would help, in the long term, but it might buy time for answers...

The orc heard Kevahl's words but they made no sense to him. He was confused about thier tribe, he hadn't seen the symbol before. As his wounds were bound, and the blood flow stemmed, he lay there quiet for a second. "We are the Fang" he said as he tried to display his tribal symbol in a weak attempt. "Why do you help?" he asked once again, realizing kevahl had stopped the bleeding and bandaged his wounds.

Grib went over to Kevahl "The Derro all have matching armor well made, typical. Humans armor didn't match bet they were mercenaries the Orcs had standard tribal armor. Big thing is, who ever they are they have their own money." He held up one of the coins with the tree mark. Then he looked to the dying Orc "I figure you don't have enough blood in your head to think well. We killed the humans who were about to burn you, so we don't fight for them or with them. You don't recognize us nor do we have a clan symbol you know so we don't fight for you. We are our own." He looked to Grozz "Found human with a staff and this book. Bet it's magic stuff, hate magic but perhaps you can read the human writing."

Grib shrugged why did we help the Orc. He thought about it and only thing that came to his mind he blurted out. "We don't know who about, or what going on. To many questions to many problems. So we need answers, it's also smart to try to be friends with the Broken Fang then your Foes."

Mikmuk appeared in the clearing , Baruk sent him when none of the scouts returned quickly. He walked up to Grozz with curious looks on his face.

The orc lay there and said." The broken fang is all but gone. Our leaders killed or joined them," he motioned to the other group. "we didnt want to join and were heading south when we were attacked" he coughed up some blood. "The dark one is recruiting, building an army, all gather at Redrock" he coughed again.

Grozz had excused himself

Grozz had excused himself just after the fight and gone to gather some herbs from the forest. He returned just before Mikmuk arrived. Hearing the trundling ogre long before he actually saw him, Grozz identified him by the particular snorting huff of his breathing. He continued working on the herbs as the ogre stomped up behind him.

He started by breaking open lashta berries and crushing dopsy pods, then mixing them together on a flat garrul mushroom. He smeared the mixture onto several folded cerdumon leaves, which he then bound with the stalk of a spined fern that had been stripped of its barbs. Taking the herbal bundle over to the orc, he instructed him to bite the bundle in half and swallow each half without chewing. If the orc did so, Grozz would then give him a small amount of water.

He followed Grozz's instructions, then drank the water. Mikmuk was starting to pile all the armor and weapons together thinking that they were going to take them all. "They go with us?" he asked, not sure what to do. At this point Baruk had come to the clearing. Mikmuk didnt come back right away, and he knew something was going on, just had to see for himself. "The rotted fang" he poked at one of the dead orcs. "I don't know this symbol" he pointed to the dead tree. Then he noticed Grozz adminisering to the wounded orc.

Kevahl left watching over the wounded Orc to Grozz, who was better with wounds, and reported what the Orc had said to Baruk. "Not sure yet why this one didn't want to join up, or why some of the Fang leaders got killed. My guess is same answer to both questions."

Baruk grunted. He had heard rumors of a building army, just had no interest on learning more. "We need to move, gather what we can and let's go" he looked at Grozz, "Will he make it?" he asked.

Grozz stood up and stepped

Grozz stood up and stepped over to Baruk. "No. His wounds are too severe. What I gave him will dull his pain and clear his head so that he can face Death as a warrior, not coughing up blood and mewling like a dying animal."

"You are WRONG." the voice of the orc commanded as he laboriously climbed to his feet. "I am not yet ready for my life to end. You will have to wait a bit longer, Death!" he yelled at the sky. Grozz stepped back over to the orc, who looked down at him. "Help me to bind my wounds, young one."

Grozz nodded and found enough relatively clean cloth to make bandages. He went back into the forest and emerged ten minutes later with two invi leaves, a large kingsnake that was busy wrapping around his forearm, several wild onion stalks, and a forla fruit.

He started by cleaning the garrul mushroom, then laid the wide and flat invi leaves down on it. He cut the head off the kingsnake and gutted it, then squeezed the blood out of its body onto the invi leaves. He sliced up the forla fruit and put a slice into the small pool of blood on each leaf. Lastly, he cut two chunks off the end of the garrul mushroom and mashed them, placing the mash on the forla fruit slices. He folded the invi leaves closed, then bound them with the wild onion stalks.

He placed the poultices over the orc's wounds, then wrapped the two areas tightly with the cloth he'd found. "They will itch and burn, but you will NOT scratch at them, understood?"

"Stubborn Orc.. that about almost all of them." Grib mumbled as he went to a tree and climbed up to keep an eye out. "Might want to hurry up, someone bound to come by sooner or later to check up on the Humans that were left here. I bet my new knife they be tougher than these three were."

The orc tried to draw himself up, but his side twinged and his breath caught. He spoke, a bit breathlessly. "Hail Baruk, my chief. I am Yzark, formerly of the Shield-biters and the Rotted Fang. I pledge my life to you and yours. What is your tribe's name, so that I may add it to my own once I have proven myself?"

Baruk stared at Yzark for a bit and then handed him a banner that he had left in his pouch. "If you can nmake it on your'e own, you may join our travels." he said bluntly. "You are now spear and sheild". he looked at the others and barked a few orders about gathering what they could and leaving the rest, they had to leave now.
