Why would you even be on their site or instagram or twitter?
I love Jimmy Johns, to bad the closest one is over 30 miles away. Suckie even more, is I can't even eat JJ right now, and I've been known to make that trip, just to get their sandwiches :(
I don't go on their page. It was shared and I saw it on my feed. Its not the best anyway I actually prefer subway. I did like it for a while and I always got the beach club. Now id just rather choose a different spot to eat. Im curious why you cant eat it....

Carbs! Not that I don't break keto every now and again, but ever since winning the weight lose bet made with co-workers, I've been keeping to what I was doing, which I found out was basically the keto diet and a little more exercise. Since I haven't plateaued on it yet, I just kept it up.
O.O I miss the chocolate covered fruits and chips though! The soda (which I had been binging on) not so much, but I'd given that up for years before I started drinking it again, so that was easy enough.
Oh that's awesome! Ive been on a diet for the last couple months as well and lost a few myself :) That exercise though...worst part about it lol

That hasn't been so bad for me, since I didn't really change that. I just started walking more, which, owning a husky, just made her happier and my job already has me walking a lot of stairs. :p
Cutting the bag a chips a day (not those small bags) and the 40oz+ Pepsi a day did wonders. I was already generally eating healthy meals, I just have poor control of my snacking between those meals. lol I buy a bag of chips, I keep walking over and grabbing chips!
So had to stop that, the same way I stopped smoking. I just quit buying.
Funny enough, the stopping smoking is when the snacking started :p
I'm all for adding extra revenue streams to the game. Banner ads on the launcher, or an extra click through for free accounts, in game billboards and TVs, and so on.
Ads are a reality of life now. As long as they're not obstructing anything or in our faces, I say go for it.

The one thing I would rage against is if they try to just throw an ad up on my HUD that break immersion and has no flavor-text reason to be there.
R.S.O. of Phoenix Rising
Like all of the screens that keep popping up in every Cryptic MMO that advertise “specials” that require RL money to buy. Or the announcements of some rare junk that random people are getting from lock boxes, which appear in every channel and can’t be muted. That tacky garbage is something I’d like to not see.
TERA Online does the same thing now that I think about it.
What would be the vast difference between this and a Monster busting through the billboard saying, Get Monstrous with Monster Energy! Or something like that

As I keep skimming over this thread I keep thinking of this:

But what are electrolytes?
It reminds a lot of the Black Mirror episode Fifteen Million Credits where every 10 minutes or so you have to watch an ad, or else you cannot continue with your day

What is the purpose of bringing that into our game reality? Everyone here is so serious about the rp experience that they want this option and that option but are completely fine with ads for products that YOU CANNOT GET IN GAME
And we all know the advertisements wont be catered to the superhero loving nerds, it will be the same types of ads we furiously click off on videos, websites, etc.

Graphic Designer
Yeah, like remember how you could get that cape blanket in CoH?
Seriously most ads in games display products that you can't find in game.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
That's what made it great! They were ridiculous ads for products that dont exist but they were quirky and made people chuckle. That's the creativity id love to see in CoT, not just some boring red billboard with a coke can in the center.

Why can't both exist?

I like these ideas. CoT t shirts on a mannequin at the Icon equivalent. Bumper stickers on cars and school lockers. You would want a variety of designs before doing this, but that isn't really a bad thing. Some factions might lend themselves to this like C.A.P.S., Titan City PD., The Aether Pirates even.
I know I'm biased, but there could be some legit marketing opportunities here! And every real world item is advertising for the game. I did not expect to be excited from this thread, but this is shaping up NICELY.
I'm not against ads in the game and ever since the death of CoH(it couldn't run on well wishes and love), would like for the developers to have an alternative stream of revenue for my favorite niche superhero gameplay. It would not have to be blatant in your face advertising but what about certain things in-game like a vending machine, a kiosk, or a TV in a supermarket, convenience store, wherever hero equipment is sold, etc that we can get things like discount codes to products? A simple click or not if you know what it does and don't agree, get a code and the advertiser knows where it came from when you use it.
I was also thinking of just one store instead of all over the game that may blast you in the face with ads but how do you entice players there and not offend the other crowd that wants said functionality/perk/content without the ads? Depending on the implementation used, it would have to be something MWM would have to decide whether it was worth the effort to include when they will most likely have to have an on/off setting for ads. i.e. possibly double the work for any place they decided to place ads so it accommodates two different crowds
Reward tactics as well as damage dealing.
Normally I like to be a bit more positive when posting, but I want to go on a bit of a rant here. (And nothing is particularly against SavageFist either. Many folks have echoed the same sentiments.)
Many folks in this thread seem to be viewing in game advertising strongly or exclusively from the player's perspective. Now that's actually a pretty natural thing and the whys are easily understood. But it's NOT a balanced viewpoint and we should be aware of that too.
Players want ads if they can easily ignore them. But who would pay for such ads from an unproven game? It would be different if CoT was an established game with height of popularity WoW numbers, but we aren't quite to that level yet. And when it comes to pitching ads to desirable companies... well let's just say that matters a fair bit. There is, after all, no shortage of ways to spend advertising dollars but there IS a shortage of ways to make those dollars get the best results. And advertisers care very deeply about results! (This will lead to increased dev time to let results get measured in a way acceptable to each advertiser.)
All of that is another way of saying it would be helpful to consider advertisers desires when commenting in this thread. Because in the opposite extreme advertisers will want ads to be as invasive and unavoidable as possible. There will be repeated calls on dev time as they come up with new ways to measure effectiveness. And they will pull out if they aren't getting the results they want/need. Now all of that is assuming well known and reputable companies like a major cola brand. The other side of the spectrum is a different and even less desirable experience. Shady companies that aren't interested in protecting the consumer, and do far more damage than they're ever worth.
All of this leads to why I like the idea of MWM selling game related merchandise with an in-game storefront. MWM is on "both sides" of the deal and dev time invested, beyond making and updating the storefront, is minimal.
If you do rewards you may want to build a commercial house and disguise it as a movie theater.
And launch ads that award in game currency or consumables. From what i have seen we have the technology.
The add might be launched from a separate window but you can do it.

I wouldn't object to a "storefront". Say, like a Mcdonalds storefront. Small and inoffensive. BUT if you "enter" the store, it's because YOU wanted to, and the sky is the limit as to what you might find in the possibly massive "zone" you've entered, full of huge flying McDonalds Dirigibles and 40 foot giant Ronalds running around.
Might even have a live McDonalds person in there to interact with visitors.
No one "makes" you go in there, so why not?
most I want is a Mcdonalds restaurant where you can go in, RP and buy some emotes where I'm eating food there. I big zone with giant Ronald McDonalds is just over the top. Just hanging out in a normal McDonalds is enough to make me want a hamburger from the place, a McDonald's zone complete with missions and the like where McDonalds is in your face the whole time will never make me want to go to McDonald's ever again. Product placement works when it's subtle.

I think you could sell "mogul" type advertising sites. IE if McDonalds, Pizza Hut, or Starbucks wanted to advertise in game they would pay a large sum (greater than KS backers) to have their building in game for a year. IF if MWM can figure out how to sell products through those store fronts, then I would be fine with that. IE allowing the user to order pizza from the Hut or Starbucks gift cards. That would be fine with me. I think so long as MWM retains a creative veto on any in game advertising then that would be fine. If what the advertiser wants to put in game doesn't match what MWM wants to do then they reserve the right to say "sorry, nope." I'm sure that is easier said than done.

I appreciate MWMs efforts and spirit for creating a wonderful game as well as fostering an equally wonderful gaming community. We all deserve the best game possible. So I will offer my honest opinion in the most respectful manner possible.
If this game requires ad revenue to exist that will significantly alter the spirit of the game, then perhaps it should not exist in the first place. (I suppose in that case the game as I expect it would never be published.) I would hope the project to find stronger footing in design ethic with the community supporting it. I would hope they would find even more adaptive strategies to succeed and thrive as Independent game developers.
Please continue in your ambitious and remarkable work.
No pressure :-)
I couldn’t agree more. Fortunately this is just some “what-if” speculation about potential low-impact product placement. This isn’t going to be City of Titans Sponsored by Toyota. If it ever got to that, the project would be a failure and all the crowd funding would be money down a hole.
I suspect if this was "actually" going to happen it would have started happening years ago even with just this webpage.

I think it's better to think of it like this do Roger Rabbit, not the Emoji movie.... the difference here? Roger Rabbit, has a lot of characters from a lot of animations, but they all appear in the background, they provided advertisement through their very existence, but the product placement over all took a backseat to the rest of the movie. The Emoji Movie on the other hand, had the product placement dominate the film. It had too much control over every aspect of the film, and that ultimately was what ruined it, so the thing here is, put the product placement in the background, offer places to RP in, but don't give me the McDonald's M as a chest Logo, don't make a Mountain Dew car, like they did for the Mad Max game. Look over the contracts you're given with a lawyer present and be careful with what you say. Don't let the product placement take over the game. Billboards and a McDonald's I can go in should be enough.

I like that idea...simple product placement.
No ads, just Pepsi machines, McDonalds on the corners, a modern sports car driving down the road. Walmart....all of these elements just part of the background: scenery. They would make for a believable setting without being intrusive.

I've been wanting to use my KS perks to put a "Vrghr (rhymes with burger) King" eatery somewhere in game. If Mc Ds or some other real place wanted to use an enhanced "Mogul" concept to buy into some storefront action, it might be interesting to have a little side-mission: Some overly-eager villainous underling on my staff decides to take a bit of "direct action" against our competitor without my knowledge.
Heroes need to find who's behind the vandalizing of the real Fast Food place, and can chase the leads back to the in-game Vrghr King outlet. *grin* Depending on their career choice, they can confront me as the Owner, dig deeper to find the underling really masterminding the capers, take a bit more aggressive retaliation against my place in response, etc.
The real fast food joint gets some product placement, and maybe players get a real world coupon for solving the case, and you have a legit tie-in to the city with a minor mission to play with.
Would that sort of placement be good or bad?

Vrghr...Are you implying there be some sort of burger burglar, a Hamburglar if you will, type caper linked to an advertising spot in the game?
