It's unfortunate that the

It's unfortunate that the public panel at PAX West was not a shining moment for CoT. I thought from the beginning it was premature and a little unfair to climb into the ring with such heavy hitters in the industry for promotional purposes. Clearly, the interaction between developers across the gaming spectrum paid more dividends to the folks at MWM.

That said. It's great to see the video, the announcement of Second Chance and the desire to move from volunteerism to the next level. All of that lifted my spirts tremendously at a much needed time. Thank you.

As for the Second Chance, it is literally a second chance at our Kickstarter rewards. This will not include the add-ons included in the original Kickstarter, nor will it include the last two tiers of rewards. We will be offering all the tiers that did not exceed their stated limits in the original Kickstarter until those limits are reached, and offering the unlimited ones, well, without limits.

It might be good to include some tiers to draw in people who pledged once, but would like to pledge again in some small (or large) way.

On the one hand, it makes sense to exclude the Add-ons, because I understand those turned into a lot more work than MWM might have originally expected. On the other hand, some people have expressed regret at having missed out on some things like the "Mogul" add-on. Will "All Your Base" essentially offer that same perk?

As for myself, I already have the "Dynamic Duo" and I don't see myself needing additional accounts. Unfortunately, if I'm understanding the update correctly, that would mean there's not going to be a good option for me in the 2nd chance. I'm not going to be in a position to lay down big $$ for the 2nd chance anyway, but if there were an available add-on, something like "6 months pre-paid subscription", that would likely be something in my price range that I might jump at the chance to get.

It wouldn't even necessarily have to be a bargain. I realize you probably haven't set a monthly sub cost yet, but still, you could probably make a good guess at it. I'm kind of assuming it will be in the neighborhood of $15-20/month, though I realize I may be wrong. Inflation kills.

TL;DR: Maybe some low-cost, low-impact add-ons like "X# of extra months of subscription time after launch for 1 account" would give folks like me a nice option.

For our panel, we did hit one technical issue. We wanted to stream the panel to Twitch, but found that streaming from the phone was too low quality. As a result, we opted to use the laptop brought to the panel, which meant it was no longer available for the video we had prepared for the panel. But why waste a perfectly good video? So here it is, along with Nate Downes’ spoken presentation to help deliver the impression we had aimed for.

I understand that there are always unforeseen technical issues, especially when you do not have 100% control over the situation. I know what it is like to be the presenter.

I am glad that the technical issues were resolved and we got to have a panel stream. All three projects (SoH, VO & CoT) benefitted from having the stream. There were even a few people in chat that had handles that suggested that they worked for/on the non-CoT projects (and provided pertinent answers on those projects).

I am somewhat disappointed that neither of the other two company representatives loaned Nate their laptop to display a video. They were happy as clams to go about their business and do their project proud. Then when it came time for Nate to talk about CoT they just sat there and did nothing to help a brother out. Because that's what they are, brothers in a common cause to produce a spiritual successor to CoH. The more the merrier, right? Right?

Now the above is an extremely snarky and bitter view about what might have happened. I do not know for sure because all I have for reference is the stream VoD. There were probably minutes before the panel started to try to sort out the technical issues. There might have only been hours or days ahead of time for the three participants to talk about what would be discussed at the panel.

It might help in the future to release (post or whatever) as much information pertinent to the panel before the panel happens. It can help bring the audience's depth of knowledge up to a certain bar so they can more readily understand what is being talked about. It will prime the audience to ask more informed questions also. When dealing with multiple presenters with relatively restrictive time constraints it would be a good idea to make sure your message doesn't get compromised. Also, please make sure you aren't always the last to answer questions tot he entire panel.

I found the video very encouraging. Hints of a pet class, some very well done combat animations (along with some not so well done, but's that okay), the story of map development gave me an evil grin (haven't been stuck in "do-over" mode many times on more projects than I care to recall). I enjoyed the glimpse at the character creator.

Like everyone else, my ears immediately perked up at the "Second Chance" mention. In fact, that is what brought me to the forum today.

I'm in the same boat having went with the Dynamic Duo. As suggested, maybe a tier that provides extra months of subscription. Character slots would be another nice perk to buy. More complicated and less likely because I don't know how the store or items are setup but I would like to see a costume pack upgrade. For example, if you had 5 different bundles of costume pieces(tech, steampunk, zombie, etc) available at launch and if you purchased the costume perk, you could redeem it for one of the bundles. Whether that is practical at this point, I have no idea but I'm throwing out things I'm willing to buy.

They got 12 Fashionistas,

They got 12 Fashionistas, including me, the first time. I THINK the original cap on that was 25 people? I could conceivably donate an additional Fashionista-level amount again when the Second Chance happens. If you contributed to the KS at some given level and you contribute at that level again, do you get two of everything? I ask because some of the very high level support categories did not fill to capacity, and they said they'd allow people to donate to those levels until they do reach their original capacity (which I just looked, those original capacity levels are no longer listed on the KS).

For clarity, not including add-ons like Mogul, etc, Fashionistas got a grand total of:

1. Armchair Hero - Kickstarter Badge on these forums, plus the Wallpapers
2. Construction Crew - your name ( or proxy ) on the sponsor’s wall in the Atlas Hurricane Memorial Park and access in one of the closed beta access waves
3. Bright Lights Big City - opportunity to reserve your Global Nickname before the general release + a Kickstarter only badge and title for our founding heroes ( and villains! ), an exclusive costume set that will never be available again, and a prestige travel power.
4. Home Sweet Home - a copy of the game via digital download, a month of VIP subscription, and advanced account activation during the release weekend giving you a headstart on public play.
5. Fly Free! - an additional two months of VIP access and the Kickstarter exclusive Phoenix Travel Aura.
6. Dynamic Duo - an additional set of Fly Free! rewards for a friend or family member, including all additional rewards from earlier tiers for both accounts.
7. Geocacher - Your own Exploration Badge on the game map. We will work with you on the location and text, within design requirements .
8. All Your Base - an additional set of doors (for your secret base) only available to sponsors of this level plus correspondingly themed base decor
9. I Know A Guy - Help name and design a mission NPC in the game with our talented writers and artists .
10. Registered Lethal Weapon - Design yourself a custom single weapon or prop in partnership with our talented artists. It will be exclusively yours in-game for the first year or first four issues after launch, whichever is longer. You have the option of granting access to this to others of your choosing.
11. Double Trouble - Create an additional weapon or prop in partnership with our talented artists. It will be exclusively yours in-game for the first year or four issues (whichever is longer) after launch. You have the option of granting access to this to others of your choosing.
12. Fashionista - Design a custom costume texture to your specifications to be available in the game, exclusively for your characters. Costume components includes gloves, boots, belt, pants, shirt, cape, chest logo, and mask, with the addition of a custom weapon or prop which is exclusively yours in-game. It will be exclusively yours in-game for the first year or four issues (whichever is longer) after launch. You have the option of granting access to this to others of your choosing.

This means one whole body worth of costume pieces, an Exploration Badge, an NPC I get to help name and design, and THREE item/weapon/object thingies (one from Lethal Weapon, one more from Double Trouble, and one from Fashionista itself), which I am supposed to be able to specify or have some hand in designing.

Now, in the ORIGINAL Kickstarter, if you donated more money, you got some other stuff. Specifically, "Big Dog" for $5k, which got you a better NPC who runs a major social hub, and a base door that is in that hub somewhere. If you didn't want the "Big Dog" stuff but DID want a second Fashionista (so a total of two costumes, two NPCs, two Exploration badges, and _SIX_ weapons) for yourself, you couldn't really get that, as far as I know, for one person.

So now, my question is this: during the Second Chance, will I be able to get a second helping of Fashionista perks for another $3k? Or would that additional money "promote" me to "Big Dog" where all I get in addition to the single package of Fashionista stuff is the "Big Dog" item deal? Because SIX weapons and TWO costumes and TWO NPCs is quite possibly worth the money to me, but the Big Dog thing is not, to be honest.

But then on the other hand, some other people who contributed to the original KS might want to upgrade their original perk level instead of buying another copy of perks starting from zero again. I could see people wanting either of those things.

The price of each tier will

The price of each tier will automatically subtract the cost of whatever tier you are up to. So if you bought the 50 dollar tier the 125 dollar Dynamic Duo would actually cost 75.

So you're telling me that if I just want another pile of Fashionista goodies I have to make a different email account and donate under a fake name so as not to get "promoted" to Big Dog? And presumably I'd then have to make two user accounts and buy two copies of the game to link those perks to?

Also, assuming I DON'T do that, how do you factor in add-ons like Mogul that I bought before, which were, I believe, tracked as part of my total contribution the first time? If I contributed a total of $3500 (including add-ons) the first time, and I give you another $1501 now, does that take me to the $5000 level that would "promote" me to Big Dog (which, again, for the record, _I_ don't want, but some others might)? Or are we ignoring the add-ons in some way that can be tracked and then only counting my $3000 "non-Mogul add-on" money, causing me to have to contribute another $2000 to get to Big Dog?

And lastly, is there ANY way you can grant my request that you just give me a second bundle of Fashionista perks on my existing account for another $3000, not the Big Dog thing?

No stretch goals, sorry. Not that your contributions won't make things happen faster which is effectively a stretch goal. They will. But it just won't be a discrete "stretch goal." It's too late to change goals for launch. The issues after that, we'll see.

Cool, cool.... by the way? I think I may have an idea that can help you sell the character creator, there's a youtuber called Robbaz, he's a let's player, but what he specializes in is comedy based around messing around with the different character creator's from different games. If you give a copy to him for free if he promises to make a video out of it, that could result in a fair bit of ad revenue. Just so you're warned though, he is definatly not PG 13, so more likely than not he might end up with a video about a fat butter face who's main power is shooting blood out of his nipples. You might also want to look into sponsoring "monster factory" too

Can't think of one, let's players specializing in character creation based tend to be more crass in my experience but well... the publicity still works here, and if people see whatever kind of horrorshow he creates is possible to make in the game itself, people are going to realize the depth of this character creator, if you want youtubers who are T for teen, I'd recommend markiplier, game grumps and totalbiscuit. There stuff tends to be more family friendly, but you should give those people the complete game rather than the just the character creator since they specialize more in the gameplay department of comedy.

And maybe some snazzy add-ons. I really just want stuff that's not going to create more work for you guys. Also, it's just easier if all the accounts are under me, I do the finances for the house. And I'm the one of the three of us that will remember to donate when the time comes >.<

I should invest in the stock market at some point, rake in a bit of a net profit while we're booming so I have some more money to throw at the second round of Kickstarter content. I'm so psyched!~

Wow that's a great update. I

Wow that's a great update. I particularly liked the new character creator footage. It's too bad this wasn't shown at PAX but that's life I suppose. Thanks Wolfgang for putting that video together. I'm sure that took some time to edit and it appears to have bolstered everyone's spirits in addition to being informative.
Regarding sending promo copies of the character creator to Let's Players. I would add that you consider not only the more popular ones (as suggested) but to seek out the folks who still have COH let's play vids up on YouTube. Clearly they enjoyed the game and would probably be motivated to promote CoT with minimal effort.
Awsome update!

I hope the CoT EULA doesn't contain that clause. I'll have to read it closely.

First time posting on here, I

First time posting on here, I just wanted to say I'm extremely excited for this game and have been paying attention to every little update for years now. I started playing CoH around 2011, very close to end of its life. Since it died I've been eagerly awaiting the next superhero MMO with as much customization and community interaction that CoH had. I wasn't able to contribute to the initial kickstarter, but I'm glad to know that I can still help this time around. Keep up the great work, take all the time you guys need to make this game the best it can be.

Also, I would love to do QA work for you guys.

Not just no but hell no. We want people to make and share costume ideas.

Just don't pay attention to the line requiring you to send a developer a cheese pizza once a week. 8)

Very emphatic, but I think I should make certain, that "NJNBHN" was to the clause in the EULA, not to my idea of showing off the results of the AB, right?

I think that one will get stricken from the EULA the first time you get 5000 cheese pizzas. You'd have a hard time keeping up with demand as it would take 31.25days (at nine minutes/pizza) just to make 5000. Obviously a shop can handle some parallelism but that is a LOT of pizza.

The clause in the EULA

That said, please don't cook up anything with the AB that would force us to extend that answer to it as well.

That's actually a good point.

That's actually a good point. If someone created only horrific monstrosities with the AB and put that on a video with the CoT name attached, it might not be the kind of publicity we want.

Speaking of the AB, what's the projected release date for that? Doc once said around Oct 2017, but I'm guessing if it were to be ready next month you would have said something in this update.

Agreed, what is the status of the AB, especially as there have been stretch goals for Android, iOS and Mac clients of it as well.

I looked at the video and see

I looked at the video and see that the "gravity" power is shown \o/
But i was disapponted to see that the origin point of the power is the hand of the character instead of a vortex (which is more immersive for that power than the hand). Does it stay like that of is it just because that was on development ? :)

I saw that there is a commander with his robot minion and this minions cast an electric ray. I wonder, is this the final esthetic of this power ? it seems, to me, more watery than electricity ^^

By the way, i noticed you change the logo at the beginning at the video :) It's better than the previous one ! And i like the UI choice you made regarding our opinion in a previous thread ^^ I also like the fact that we could have luminescent eyes and luminescent part of suits like the bell. As well to be able to put tentacules on the face or even a material on the face :) We'll enjoy the character designer ! i'm so exciting !! (i'm preparing a surgery look at the video for french people :p)

Two words: aesthetic

Two words: aesthetic decoupling.

Even if those animations were final, they'd only be for that aesthetic. If you want your gravity guy to have a vortex, you can use a vortex (eventually, anyway). If you want they power to originate from a gun, you can use a gun.

I thought about this but i wonder how can we make easthetic decoupling in the air (like vortex in front of my character casting things froward or beneath the foes and throwing a thing for the "sky" or even on another angle like from the floor with a earth easthetic ). I wonder, really, what could be the possibilities in this case ^^

Indeed, I'm confident from what I've seen so far that the fundamental design is flexible enough. As a software developer of thirty-five years, I'm less concerned about the pretty details and more concerned about getting a product into testers hands.

Im curious about that gravity

Im curious about that gravity throw as well. It was weird that it wasn't coming from a point but I figured it is still being developed. Things like the speed, it should come out slowly then build up as if flies towards the enemy. I do hope the accuracy is much better than the propel in COH. That thing missed so badly lol. How do you miss throwing a car? hehehe

Ok, so the power is

Ok, so the power is functionnal (you can throw an object randomly from a data base and make damages ?) but there is no final aesthetic decision for the moment ^^ Am i right ?
Ny the way, 3 or 5 minutes to produce a functionnal power... that's estonnishing :D it means you can spent more time on the details like a real look like vortex with distortion and smoke for the gravity xD (what ? no, i'm not dreaming, really ^^)

Not really. The power would be a ranged attack that does health damage. The object being summoned and lauched toward the target is the aesthetic part.

That same power could be a bow animation firing lightning bolts, beams from the eyes, pistol, and so on.

When looking at.powrs and trying to understand them, separate looks from function.

Im not familiar with coding

Im not familiar with coding but I wonder about the rotation of the objects being thrown. Like, does it keep track which one you launched last and the next time goes down the list? Or is it purely random what object gets thrown? If there is an algorithm, I wonder if you can make a cool object that maybe rarely comes up like a tank or something else epic.

The game basically runs off aesthetic decoupling as far as powers go, it's not really a case where there's going to be a powerset called "shoot random stuff at people" but rather more a case where you'll see a powerset called "Kinetic Ranged" from which you could make all powers be just you shooting random sruff if you wanted. Powerset animation are really just costumes for your powers.

There will be a second chance

There will be a second chance funding drive designed for those like you Dztblk. However, at the moment all we know is that it will happen, the timing and circumstances of the second chance are not yet known/disclosed. It has been stated that they would like to have the first closed alpha/beta test by the end of the year and didn't want to hold a second chance campaign until that had happened. Whether or not that is still the plan or timing is not yet public knowledge.

I understand ^^ Separate function from aesthetic ! I got it. But what about the origin point to throw the object (or the fire bolt, ou the ray of light, or...) is it aesthetic as well (or functional) ? If it's aethetic, will we be able to choose the location of the origin if it's not on the character or a gear (i don't remember the word used for the bird in the exemple of the aesthetic decoupling news ^^) ?

We found with moguls that one

We found with moguls that one person with two moguls was not twice the work, but four times the work. So I'm afraid we don't want to sell doubles of tiers like Fashionista.

If it's an account with perks you want to buy, I'm sure there will be a suitable package in the pre-sales options when that time comes.

Yes, but every one is the same one:
We hire someone else.

Of all the things you've said, this is the one that fills me with confidence.

The evolution of every enterprise has to go from the heroic efforts of a few core people to the delegation of efforts to many talented people. Where most enterprises fail is that those few heroic people think nothing needs to change because it was good enough for them. So the talented people who follow are expected to exhibit the same level of heroic effort to succeed and the whole thing starts showing signs of stress, chaos and high turnover. I pray MWM is able to hire the people it needs and also instill a good set of core business practices to not only bring CoT to fruition, but to enable its success after launch.

P.S. The snippet you showed with eye customization was tremendous.

I don't think a local aesthetic is required here. The object would come from a portal you created so I don't think it requires the object to match the area since its assumed you didn't pull it from the room anyway.

I think that is much more a personal preference and ideally should have both as options.

Personally I just don't see a "pure telekinetic" to be able to open portals in that capacity, nor do I see opening portals to grab random object to be practical since it would most likely have a too high chance of grabbing someone's "active" property or even a person or pet. To be able to "limit" oneself to only object that no one would actually care about means that one would either have to go around and mark the places they reside in (like a dumping ground) or store them in a pocket dimension (which implies limited "ammo").

Why does the object being

Why does the object being thrown have to belong to someone? I really don't think this should be provided as an option. I don't think someone who plays a telekinetic should be able to pull an object through a portal. If its tk, then it should have its own separate animation and maybe have the object come from behind the player and at that point have it be an object that matches its environment. If its a power that relies on gravity like the propel, then it should come out of a portal on the ground or in the air, and the object at that point doesn't matter what it is. Lets not blur the lines between abilities because that really irks me.

I can see the "object

I can see the "object matching environment, flies from behind the player" aesthetic fitting well with TK / some gravity and illusion controllers / magnetic and air manipulators. The "random object, pulled from portal" aesthetic fits best with other gravity and illusion controllers, advanced gadgeteers, and some sort of hammerspace fighting style. Each animation seems to have its uses.

Been searching for space. Likely in the Renton or Tacoma area south of Seattle.
