Become a Titan
Taurien released Retribution and it reappeared on his back, then he sketched a short bow to Sister Flare. "Taurien Felrender. Demon slayer and Guardian of this plane from the unholy forces of the Black Triad."
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
"I wonder if there's anyone in this town that knows how to trace portals..." Rhythiel wondered aloud. "Or maybe we can send something through the next one to pop up..."

The air above an old warehouse started to swirl. Slowly it built up speed. The large swirling mass started to crackle with electricity and a void in the center started to appear as if the fabric of time itself was being opened. A few passerby onlookers seemed mesmorized by the event. More people gathered , all of them gawking at it , some taking pictures or filming with thier phones.
A police car pulled up. "We got a um a , disturbance ? " the one officer said in the radio as the driver got out and walked toward the small crowd that had gathered around.
They watched the vortex continue to spin. Marveling at the flashes of color and its stability to stay in place. " the old smit's warehouse. " the officer said still holding the radio.
The crowd below couldn't see the figures emerge. Only those gifted enough to see the many layers of the underworlds would have been able to see the atherial beings.
The beings themselves were different shapes and sizes. There were 7 in all so far. They slowly floated down and a cold shiver raced down the spines of the people they approached. One of the beings resembled a long snake with 5 heads , floated down and positioned itself to wrap around three of the people. Another similar looking one but with only one head and two tails did the same. Then they struck. The creatures becoming visible as they fed. The two of them coiled and crushed thier victims. Another creature grabbed someone with its giant claw and nearly severed them in half before theywere stuffed into an open mouth.
The chaos of everything was confusing at first. It all happening so fast. Then sheer panic set in. The officer that joined the crowd had his pistol drawn and was reaching for his radio when he was pounced on by what resembled a large cat. Claws and fangs went to work. The other officer still with the car , was on the radio " We need backup!! And hur..... ". Was all he got out as an apparition , a floating column of air enveloped him and started to swirl even faster. The eyes on the column of air was the only Clue this was a sentient being. As it swirled , the officers skin and all started to melt. It consumed all the flesh and bone. Leaving behind a gun and uniform.
The ones that could detect other plains would have sensed a very minor disturbance. The ones that can only sense demonic planes would not have even noticed this.
The 7 beings finished off thier prey and went about Thier own way. The portal remained open.
Shepherd could sense the new Portal open as he recieved a call from the TCPD.
"Shepherd if you get this there is a disturbance at the Smit warehouse. We need you there ASAP since this is your expertise. There may be casualties involved."
Shepherd teleported to the location as soon as he felt the souls passing only to run into the carnage.
"In the end there can be only one" The Highlander
Sister Flare immediately and visibly perked up at sensing another arcane disturbance, the opening of a rift, as she adds...
"We may not have to, another has opened...and it still pour energy...it's open."
"Energy my thing. Just keep them off me and I leach the portal." She lifted off the lamp post "Damn I already did my good deed for the week, at this rate people would think I'm a hero." She then started flying to the Smit Warehouse.
Personal rules of good roleplay
1.) Nothing goes as planned.
2.) If it goes as planned it's not good RP
The portal shepherd and sister flare sensed did feel different than the first ones. It was another plane. A dark spiritual one , not the daemonic hellish one like before. The beings coming from it had altogether a different feel. More apparition and ghostly then hellspawn. Shepherd could only sense the closest one at the moment. Thier ability to almost blink in and out of existence on this plane would prove to be a probłem. Sister flare could also sense it. Then she sensed a different one. In the opposite direction. The closest one they felt was by the police car. It's huge single claw was grasping a severed limb. It walked on two legs, but had no head to speak of. Instead it's face was in its torso and its mouth just a large circle in the center. It had two appendages , the giant claw and what looked like another arm , much smaller that ended in only three fingers. It sensed the heroes presence but ignored them. Possibly not seeing them as a threat. It went back to its meal.
At sensing this Sister Flare immediately stopped, raising her arm to convey she has sensed something, before speaking slowly.
"We have a closer threat, people in immediate danger...it's grotesque. Go on ahead to face the larger threat, I can handle this one." With that, she teleports to a ledge just above the creature on a low building, as her companions would notice droplets of blood in where she stood, and pieces of the barbs launched from earlier It appears she is already wounded, and may not be as able as she claims to fight..
Rhythiel noticed the blood and thorns, and flew straight up to find the enemy Sister Flare had sensed.
Kneeling upon the ledge within the shadows, Sister Flare does not even wince as she cups a hand to her bloody right abdominals, and wills flame over them, cauterizing at first but now visibly healing the wound, though slowly. Taking a moment to stand, she resummons her blades of crackling fire and swiftly turns to spot Rythiel, inquiring quietly but with fervor...
"What are you doing here, I can handle-" She pauses to wince, the skin visible under the corset a tender looking purpleish red. "Myself!"
Shepherd went to handle the creatures while Rhythiel checked on Sister Flare. The Ghostwalker launched some of his crossblades at the creature by the car.
"These ones feel different... more like me spiritual than those other ones. Someone playing with something they don't understand!" Misty raised her arms again drawing on more heroic spirits. "I wonder if I..." She focused on a creature she can sense and channeled her will into it taking possession of it and willing it to fight it's own.
The spinning blue blades took the creature totally by surprise. It did not expect such a powerful advisary on this plane. The blades struck the creature and nearly passed through it before detonation. The blasts from them stunned and wounded it. It's large claw dropped what it was eating and it charged at shepherd oozing a subtle white substance from its wounds.
Sister flare standing on the rooftop noticed a slithering form below. It had her scent and was searching for her. It snaked back and forth just below ever stalking its meal.
A second being sat across on a close roof to sister flare as rythiel approached. It was more humanoid. It phased in and out and would have been hard to sense. It looked more human , like a small man , but with three distinct horns on its head. It no visible nose , two small eye slits , and just a thin mouth. It didn't move to attack but sat and watched .
Misty slowly fought the will if the creature closest to her. It was the whirling spirit. She could sense it felt lost, confused. It however was hungry. It needed to feed. As she fought for control she started to feel the hunger burning within her.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" She shook her head trying to brake free "Damn thing now I'm hungry... I haven't had a stomach for ten years!" She then attacked by siphon energy off the very creature she was trying to affect "Fine I feed off of you ugly!"
The creature she was draining slowed. It sat in the same spot for a few minutes. It's swirling continued to slow. It was trying to connect to mistys mind. " why has thou brought us here. Why are we so hungry. Why , why , ". It was losing the willpower fight. The hunger it felt was consuming it.
Sister Flare immediately perks up as she notices the two creatures peering upon her, eyeing the small humanoid curiously before cringing as she registers the snakelike creature stalking her, her blades within a guarded position outwards, as she whispers to Rythiel.
"If you can handle the small creature, I'll skin the snake."
Rhythiel nodded and lunged immediately for the watching humanoid. She did not strike to kill, but rather to grapple and hopefully take prisoner.
As Rytiel charges, Sister Flare decides to greet her opponent by projecting a cone like spiral of ash and fire surrounding her target, aiming to suffocate and disorient, and weaken it's hide before rushing forward in a roll to meet it's body with a series of scathing strikes from her blades.
"Hey guys? I got an idea these things are hungry starving really. What if we find away that they can be satisfied?"
Sister flares heat cloud surrounded her quarry , enveloping it burning cinders and ash. The snake like being coiled itself up to protect itself as best as possible. The heat had a strang effect on this being. Like heat waves rising unseen off concrete , parts of the being we're flaking off and rising with the ashes. As it burned her blades struck. The seemed to nearly pass through the creature before striking a solid foe. They burned. They burned and the being twisted in pain and agony. It tried to strike, snapping its mouth full of teeth at air as it came close to her. It's twin tails also came up to lash out.
Rythiel's dive almost seemed to surprise her opponent. The being tried last minute to shif out of solidity but failed. It was easily overpowered by the stronger Lillum.
" why do you not hunger as well demon ?" It said in a shocked and almost scared tone.
When the creature charged Shepherd summoned his sword and charged as well slicing the creature with his blade as the energy from his blade pulsated along with his eyes as if the blade were alive.
The blade caught the creature center mass. Again nearly passing through it before it struck. It severed the large claw arm clean off along with the shoulder . The creatures forward momentum carried it past shepherd as it collapsed into the ground.
Shepherd followed it's momentum and jumped on top of the creature as he impaled it with his sword. Bringing the sword down o the creature with such force that lightning and blue heavenly flame began to crackle as the sword made impact.
"Wrong question. Why do you hunger? Or are you part of the reason they hunger?" Rhythiel made sure she held her prisoner's wrists immobilized, and called out, "Anyone got some duct tape?"
"I dunno about no duck tape, marm, but I could hog-tie him if you'd like..." a new voice with a cowboy twang to it said from the roof above them. Peering over the edge was a grizzled face underneath a worn cowboy hat. Over the edge came a lasso which slipped over the head of the creature she was holding, the rope somehow passing through her wrists to cinch around the creature's waist, then it was yanked up onto the roof above.
"Hold still, ya no-good hombre!" was heard from above as the cowboy expertly flipped the creature onto its belly and tied its arms and legs up behind its back with a lasso that glowed ever so slightly with divine energy.
"Stay put!" he ordered, then walked back over to the edge and crouched to offer his hand to Rhythiel. "I don't normally make a habit of lendin' a hand to demons, marm, but you seem to have yer heart in the right place by fightin' these here monsters, so I'll make an exception."
"Not exactly a demon. My mother wasn't a fallen angel, but she did a lot of business with them, so I can understand the confusion. I don't work for her or them anymore . Rhythiel is my name. And yours, kind stranger?" She smiled at him as she took his hand.
"Oh hello handsome" Misty said appearing beside Rhythiel. "I don't think we going to get a handle on these portals unless we find the cause."
Rhythiel pointed to the thoroughly bound humanoid. "Hence the prisoner. If he knows anything, and if we can make him talk. By the way, he seemed frightened that I wasn't hungry."
"I tried to take possession of one. The hunger was all consuming, I barely broke contact before I ended up like that." Shakes her head "I wouldn't want to try to mess with their minds again."
"Well shoot, a ghost, monsters, and not-a-demon. This place has south of the border beat hands down." he said, chuckling.
"Name's Cal Hardy, but the varmints where I come from knew me as The Pistoleer." he said with a tip of his hat to both ladies. His eyes slid to the side ever so slightly and in a move that was almost too fast to track, he spun around Rhythiel while throwing his duster open to reveal a gunbelt with two Colt .45 Peacemakers. His right hand moved blindingly fast as he drew down on one of the monsters that had just clambered over the edge of the roof.
Fanning the hammer, he put nine shots into the creature dead center. As the bullets left the barrel, each one glowed with a spark of divine fire. As he fired, he walked towards the creature, then unloaded a kick into it that threw it right back off the roof. It scrabbled at the edge, then fell off with a howl and Cal calmly re-holstered his gun. Turning back to the ladies, he tipped his hat again. "Sorry 'bout the interruption, ladies. I'm here 'cuz Taurien got called away to handle somethin' else. Either of you know what's goin' on?"
Rhtyhiel tried to give a brief recap. "Well, monsters like that have been popping up, more frequently and in greater numbers, killing people, and we don't know why or who or where from." She picked up the one The Pistoleer had hogtied. "Care to enlighten us? Or do I have to give you to someone who can make you talk?" Her smile suddenly looked entirely different.
"I was just hanging around and spotted some powerful magic types, next thing I knew all hell broke loose. I think that's literally." She looked to the hogged tied fellow then to Rhyhiel. An idea entered her head she looked to the prisoner "You said your hungry did it start when you were brought to this realm?"
Sister Flare leaped back as the twin tails lashed out, and decides to end the bout before her wound is agitated by more movement. Dissipating her blades, she begins to mutter a incantation in ancient Druidic, before gazing upwards as storm clouds suddenly appaerate above, thunderclaps bursting about as the Ember Witch stares down the serpent, inquiring coldly in an echo.
"Did you know that lightning's heat at first strike rivals that of the sun, for a second, creature?" With that revealed, she opens her eyes to reveal intimidating tongues of fire as the first bolt of orange lightning cascades into a strike aimed directly at the creature, followed by a second, and finally third.
The assualt is meant to grow in strength as it continues, a mix of agonizing electricity and scatching arcane fire, intending to eradicate it's hide and roast it from the inside out, leaving only ashes by the time it is finished if successful.
All in all, a rather fritening if not impressive display.
The small twisted elf like creature fell from the roof , holes burning still as the Pistoleers shots bore true. Before it hit the ground it faded , and then dissapeared in a cloud of mist...Those that could sense thier presence felt one less.
The ghastly snake like form that writhed away, intertwining itself while blast after blast of lightening struck,....over and over it felt the pain as millions of volts coursed through it.
The last hit it took, was too much... it burned and all but ignited ....as it shuddered and jotled, it started to dissipate into a fine mist.... then it was gone.
The creature shepherd stood over, brandashing his blade, started to fade and dissapate as well.....then it was gone.
"I am nothing, I am eternally nothing....why are we here?!" thier prisoner asked....."I'm hungry....soo hungry..." it said over and over... The question being presented to it seemed to not quite register. "a slave once more....will the new masters feed me?"........it started to grovel...
The remaining four creatures that had come through, were getting a sense of strong power....epic meals, thier collective thought. The second snake like creature, with the multiple heads , slinked its way towards the building where the hereos were gathered on the roof with thier prisoner. Another beast, a spider looking one , only with 13 legs and a whiptail, followed closely behind the great snake. The two other creatures scurried along like ratmen. thier pointy ears and enlongated nose with whiskers made them look like a half breed of some sort, minus the tails. .....they all approached the building.
Shepherd soon teleported to the roof once the creature disappeared. He appeared in front of he others as he nodded to the new comer.
When Shepherd teleported in, Rhythiel heard a faint sound. She realized that she had heard it before, but simply hadn't noticed it. Her hearing of these sorts of sounds was improving, it seemed. She absentmindedly introduced the Pistoleer to Shepherd, then said, "Excuse me, I need to try something..."
With that she launched herself into the air. She went up high enough to see all of Clarkstown, and beyond. But she didn't look, she listened. She heard the noises of a modern city at night, and below that the music of creation itself. Shepherd's teleporting, flashy as it was, was in harmony with that music. The portals were not. The dissonance made them easy for her to pick out. And now she listened for a sound that they were in harmony with, because it was causing them...
Sensing the arrivals of more fiendish creatures, Sister Flare opts to take a approach similar to Rythiel's instead of leaping once more into combat. Adopting a prone and restful kneeling posistion, she mutters words once again Druidic tongue, but now with a mix of phrases from modern incatations, revealed to be a tracking spell as she speaks, now in full English.
"In this dark and frightening night, where we face creatures born of fright, Abate ourselves from constant fight, and reveal to us this sorcerous blight."
Shepherd also sensed the creatures as they drew near picking up their spiritual signature. do to thee creature being spirits it was easier for Shepherd to sense them and pick up their signature since he walked between the spiritual and physical plain he began to use his supernatural senses to locate the source to these creatures being here, as he phaseshifted into his spirit form. those around Shepherd seen him in this form for the first time. He then looked at Misty.
"Misty if we look I'm sure we can find the source."
While the rest of the group was busy detecting the source, Cal stood on the edge of the roof and held back the approaching monsters. His Peacemakers, enchanted to never run out of ammo or break, barked divine fire as he shot down at the gathering horde. "Uh, I know that this here mumbo-jumbo is necessary, but these critters are gettin' right ornery and I ain't sure how long I can hold 'em back!"
The bullets blazed away from the twin guns....The rat-man like things were the first to be hit. they moved alot slower than the other two and were substantionally smaller. they took alot of rounds and fell after being struck in thier heads a few times.. thier forms dissipated to nothingness. The spiderlike creature was the hardest to hit, it moved extremely fast. The few times the bullets found thier mark cause some damage as they burned with thier holy fires, but getting the shot to land was harder than it should have been. it was like the beast could anticipate and think ahead of its foe. The snake like creature just got to the roof as the rat-men went down. It took a few hits and one of its five heads ceased all funtion. The other four weaved and dodged along with its tremendous body . The inhaled deepy and then launched a cone of white spectral mist at the gunslinger..
Rythiel heard it, the feint sound...the music she was looking for. it was eminating from somewhere close to the still open spinning vortex.
Sisterflares Senses were starting to read something, she felt sand, desert, heat......she saw a vision, a stone, a tome, chanting...
Misty and shepherd, couldnt see the source, they felt something however, somwhere near the vortex... to hard to pinpoint.
"soo hungry, " still entwined kept saying as it groveled in agony.
Rhythiel flew towards the vortex, listening for its rhythm, hoping to figure out what changes could disrupt it, hopefully in a manner that would discourage future intrusions. If not stopped sooner, from right next to the vortex, she would open her mouth and sing!
"Oh shut up. Really I so hate whining spirits." She took off feeling a draw to the vortex. "Um... so anyone got a plan? Not like I do this hero crap regularly."
shepherd sences began to flare as he approache the vortex just then he heard the cowboy calling out as he launched a half dozen croos blades at the creatures moving towards him.
As rythiel approached , she begane to realize, the harmony was coming from the ring itself. The music she heard, was eminating from the portal. It swirled and twisted the air, sended breif pulses of dull light and harmless energy out every few seconds. She felt it starting to permanently stabilize as the pulses or music increased.
Misty could see it as well. The stabilization process as the spining went from flucuating to a more even turn.
Shepherds blades hit the snake being from behind and forced it to refocus its attacks, It was wounded and slowed, the areas where the baldes struck still burned with agony and the creature remained stunned for a breif moment. The two blades aimed at the spider creature were nearly dodged. They hit but did nowhere near the damage the snake took . The spider shrugged off the attack and launched itself towards the gunsling, Sister flare , still chanting, and the helpless prisoner. A few more rounds from the blazing pistols came in and found thier marks. they burned, but barely slowed the hideous creature.
Shepherd then launched a few more crossblades at the creatures before turning his attention back to the vortex. The Ghostwalker got even closer. as he joined Rhythiel. This was a spiritual so theoretically he thought maybe if he drained enough of it' spiritual energy he'd be able to close it. His eyes began to glow intensely as he tried to absorb some of it's energy.
Rhythiel chose the pitch and rythm to interfere with that of the ring, not drowning it out but more like the latest active noise cancellation headphones (which she had never seen or heard of but would have understood immediately). If she could weaken it enough...
Seeing Rhythiel and Shepherd try to drain the portal she tried as well draining energy from it. "Hope you know what were doing? I'm just following your lead."
The portals spinning started to slow. The draining was starting to take effect. Thats when Rythiel was able to pinpoint the source of the music, It was coming from the other side. The portal was opened on the other plane. The sound would echo over there and resonate through the spinning vortex. If she postitioned herself to look through it, shed be able to see a vast open valley,,,,,shifting images of what looked like trees and a river.....She could almost see it, the notes, like a trail to be followed . They came from over a small hill and flodded towards the portal itself.
Rhythiel paused, and estimated the time it would take her to reach that hill, toss a present, and return. "Shepherd, can you make me a bomb I can take over there? With about a three minute timer?"
Shepherd complied as he made a bomb of unstable spiritual energy and handed the orb to Rhythiel.
"Here, maybe if i can teleport us there and back, it would save us time."
Sister Flare then speaks as she receives her vision.
"I received the images of a desert, sand, chanting...a tome. This Summonor is not local."
As the spider leaped at him, Cal moved nearly as fast as it as he holstered his right pistol and drew a glowing Bowie knife from behind his back. Raising it, he had just enough time to ready himself for the pounce and place the blade so that it would gut the spider creature as it hit him.
The creature came down on Cal with amazing speed and agility for such a large beast. The knife blade struck home and sliced deep itno its abdomen , spilling its innards and delivering an extremely crippling blow. The fangs of the creature still tried to snap into Cal. It moved alot slower and was noticebly , severely injured. The wounded snake like form , moved into the corner of the roof. It was coiled more defensive , its remaining four heads twisted about as it pondered its next attack.
The prisoner lay groveling , still bound by Cal's rope.
Turning back to Cal's struggle, she immediately flickers to his location and capitalizes on her rested strength; breathing a column of fire towards the snake creature to finish it off or keep it at bay before pivoting around to face the spider creature, with her flaming whip drawn.
Seeing as Cal needs aid now, she lashes it forward, intending to wrap around it's neck and suffocate it by drawing it taut, sharply.
Shepherd looked back at Cal he had hoped his attack wold buy Cal some time but he needed help. he then looked at Rhythiel.
"Go help Cal I did what i could to slow the creature down but he still needs help. I'll teleport the bomb to the hill and be back if anymore help is needed. I am probably the best suited to do this due to my teleportation."
Sister flare's cone of flame hit the snake creature and wrapped around it, engulfing it, It writhed and shreiked as the flames started to consume it. It last resort was to throw itself off of the rooftop in an attempt to escape.
the burning whip from sister flare caught the spider creature on its side (they dont have necks to wrap up ) and wrapped around its torso. the searing of the whip was agony to the beast. It kicked frantically with all its legs and tried to pull sister flare closer in to strike. Its open belly wound contiuned to release a torrent of fuids as it weakend by the moment.
Just as Sister Flare's whip was wrapping around the spider creature, Cal got his legs underneath it and kicked it off of him, then scrambled to his feet. As the spider creature struggled weakly, Cal strode up to it and pointed his gun at what he assumed was the head. He cocked the hammer back and looked down at it. "Aydios, varmint."
Misty nodded hearing Shepherd and went flying back to Cal. "Is that thing dead yet? I kind of need a life source to transfer it to someone else. In this case the hunky cowboy."
"OK, but if you're not back real fast, I'll be going in after you!" Rythiel resumed her song, seeking to keep the portal open at least long enough for Shepherd to get back.
Shepherd then took the bomb he created and teleported to the hill Rhythiel told him about to place the bomb.
As shepherd entered the portal he could sense the different energies of this plane. The hill he teleported to was just on the horizon. The forest lining the river seemed to be alive and he could see and hear many things watching him as he planted his makeshift bomb. The portal he came through was still stable .
The spider creature still wriggling at the end of the rope let out a shreik as Cal's round struck it. It then went limp. It's body started to break up and dissipate.
Misty acted fast as the thing wiggled with the last of it's life she blasted it with her energy draining powers forcing what little life force left out and into anyone about the thing. Then it went limp and quivered as it dissipated. "Alright I'm now officially creeped out. Coming from a ghost that's saying something."
As soon as Shepherd planted the bomb he looked around to take in the scenery. He could feel the energies. It was a little intoxicating. After a minute of taking what he was feeling in he teleported back to the other side of the portal as the unstable energy exploded. He began to wonder if he had done he right thing. He was trying to protect the mortals but some how felt like these creatures were victims too as a look of sadness appeared on his face.
As soon as Shepherd was back, Rhythiel let go of her song to let the portal collapse.
Dissipating her whip, she simply nods to Cal in a nonverbal 'You're Welcome' before turning to eye Shepard as he reappears, noting his expression.
"You did what had to be done Shepard, imagine the portents of an invasion of these creatures?"
Shepherd looked up Sister Flame.
"I know I just can't shake the feeling that these creatures were victims too."
"Those that came here, were. The one Cal tied up called itself a slave. I think they were forced here; if so, whoever did that needs to be dealt with. Before they do it again. Unless they were all back behind that hill, and I don't think any group smart enough to put their portal-making setup on the opposite side of a hill from the portal would be dumb enough to all be there for one mass counter-attack to take out." Rhythiel turned to Sister Flare. "You saw a tome. I don't know if she's still here, but last time I was in town there was dragon setting up her horde in a cave under Alexandria. If she is, she might know about the tome, if you can describe it to her well enough."
As the portal collapsed, thier prisoner started to whail..."NOOOOO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE.....TRAPPED TRAPPED I AM...." then he started to grovel again......"soo hungry why wont the masters feed me?".......
Sister Flare turns to recount to Rythiel.
"I saw sand, a desert...but it could have been a stretch of beach."
Misty looked at the groveling being. "Feed you want feed. Fine... Shepherd your strong mind if I borrow some of your energy?"
Somewherein an ancient desert, A car pulled up to an oasis. The few trees and freshwater spring looked like something out of a fiction novel. The two large stones that sat in the middle of it had odd carvings on them. As a man exited the back seat of the land rover, he went up to one of the stones and used his finger to draw an imaginary line connecting a few of the symbols. After making the unique pattern, one of the stones shuddered and a door slid open . He stepped through it and immediately started to descend a staircase. As he got to the bottom he stepped into an elevator. He went down...far down. As the door slid open he was met by a few figures dressed in plain grey jump suit with odd full face helmets on. "i trust your travel was unexciting" a female voice said as she stepped from the shadows. She was tall, and wore a long sleek black gown that nearly touched the floor. Her hair was raven black and her eyes seemd to match.
"yes my dear, nothing like the warehouse." he replied. "how is the experiment going?" The man wore a very expensive suit that was obviously tailor made to fit his strong build. His salt and pepper hair matched his well groomed and short beard.
"we are ready for stage 2" she said delightedly. The figures in the jumpsuits seemed to follow behind the man like drones.
The woman took the mans arm and led him down a corridor. She put her hand up to a palm reader on a wall and a door slid open. The room they entered was more of a huge dome . Its high ceiling arced out into reinforcing struts. lining its walls were chambers with large glasslike fronts. And in each chamber sat some form of abomination.
The man peered into the first ones and saw these massive hulklike beasts, thee of them clamoring around aimlessly. The next held two skinny men dressed in grey jump suits just sitting there. "these arent new" he stated. "oh my dear wait and see" she retorted. She lead him past a few more of the chambers with similar looking beings then stopped at the another. "look, look at what i did " she said in an evil excited tone. The man peered into the chamber and saw them, Three halfmen, they appeared to be halved with a wolf.
"lycans?" he asked more excited...."Not true ones , they cannot shapeshift" ...."that tome you recovered has many other devious abilities as well" She gestured for him to take a look. As he walked around and peered into each chamber, he was witness to some of the most grotesque beings of lore and legend. He saw snakemen, vampires, goblins, trolls, harpies, and more than he could reecognize. "And we've chipped them all"......She said with an evil laugh that seemed to echo.
As the two exited the room she spoke up again " there is however a side effect of using the different realms nightmares and bringing them to life for us. It seems it has caused the fabric of reality to crack some and cause windows from these other planes to open. "
They approached a central chamber area. they entered the door and stopped. Sitting in the middle of the room was a cyrstaline orb , and next to it was a podium that had an ancient tome laying on it. "The power of the orb it immense, it easily fuels me enough to create the 'recipes' that lay within. "
"And those cracks? Hah, i bet they keep the heroes busy." he laughed, "Yes my dear," she hissed "they sure do"...."what an excellent special suprprise for our benefit"
Shepherd nodded as he looked at Misty.
"Take what you need."
"Shepherd created an apple made of spiritual energy. He had hoped this would help sate his hunger and gave it to he creature."
Realizing her error, Rhythiel inverted her earlier song, hoping there was still enough left of the portal to open it long enough to return their prisoner.
The portal was sealed, to Rythiel's dismay.
The prisoner, bound still, started to calm. The energy feeding it from misty, plus the enhanced energy apple was pleasing to it. It's presence on this plane however started to grow stronger. They all could sense it. It lay calm, feeding, growing stronger....for now.
Shepherd looked back at Rhythiel.
"I may be able to return the creature to his home. Everytime I enter a reality my energy signature aligns with that of the reality allowing me to return without the use of portals. That's how I travel from here to my home and the previous dimension I was in that had been destroyed."
He then looked at the creature with pity.
The once pitiful creature, still curled up as it lay there, was starting to grow. As the heroes talked, its form increased in size, subtley at first, then very obviously after. The bindings on its wrists, started to fray, And it spoke up " Feed , feed!!!!..." it appeared to be draining energy from misty faster than she could fill. The transfer of Shepherds energy made the being more alert now, and ever presntly stronger. " why did you enslave me?" It asked with a much more dominant voice than the pitiful one it had moments earlier. "Why do you oppose the purge?" It sat upright now, and snapped its bindings easily. As it started to stand, still draining energy from misty, even if she tried to stop it, It reached over to grab hold of Rythiel and Shepherd.
"AGH ........... I think we shouldn't have taken Pity on it!" She backed away growing faint as her substance was reduced "Look we didn't enslave you we are trying to figure out why your here. Where your Master! WE feed you, you should tell us."
The creature, held back from grabbing Rythiel and Shepherd. It stopped and stared at misty. "Masters? I am strong now"....It was puzzled, "you didnt enslave , yet you call yourself master"....It was growing angry. "why did you bring us here?" ......it asked in an angry tone. After it had asked the question, it grabbed at its side and stomach.."Hungry, i need to feed more...."
Misty still being semi connected to it through feeding could feel its hunger growing. She then realized, having been attached for so long it was not a natural hunger. These things are being tormented in some way.
The raven haired women flipped through the tome...."Oh my, look at what we have here.....The story of Kozaal the destroyer, and Sirka the Defiler" she closed her eyes and tried to picture the Incredible beings this 'story' could help create. She then smiled to herself and started to chant ...The orb began to glow.
"SEND IT BACK! THIS HUNGER IT'S PART OF THE SPELL THAT BROUGHT IT HERE!" Her face was now distorted with fear and panic as she struggled to sever the connection "There are others, those that called you. We want to stop them, stop the hunger! LET US!"
After being broken, Cal's lasso vanished, then reappeared on his hip.
He stood ready with both guns drawn and cocked, aimed at the growing creature's head. "You best simmah down, pardner. There ain't no way that attackin' us is goin' to solve yer ills."
The creature would feel a pair of blazing blades pointed at the nape of it's neck in an X, as she assures.
"I wouldn't try to feed, or you will not enjoy what occurs next." Sister Flare then implores in a softer tone.
"What can you tell us about your former masters, where were you initially summoned?"
Rhythiel sang again, softly, a wordless lullaby, intended to soothe the creature so that Sister Flare could get answers before Shepherd returned it to its home.
The creature, seemed almost mesmorized by Rythiels melodic tone. It calmed down immensely. Then looking at Sister flare, it simply said" my masters were cruel." It peered around as if trying to figure out why it suddenly felt a comfort. "Still hungry, please feed me, feed me." The impression of it being a bit slow was obvious to everyone, the more questions were asked, the more it would get confused. Only the soft melodies from rythiel were keeping it calm. " hungry....please, feed me" is all it kept saying.
Shepherd jumped on It's back and quickly teleported himself and the creature as they appeared back in it's world.
As shepherd materialized back in the realm of the mists, he saw the hill where he had planted the device. The blast had caved in a small opening and had cut the portal energies down that was stabilizing it. The creature he released, turned to him and said," Why ?" ...it gazed around its world, and started to scamper off into the forest.
The forests on either side still teemed with life. Shepherd could feel it, the energies and life forces here were strong.
He looked as the creature scampered off.
"Because no one should be enslaved, mortal or otherwise."
Was what he said to himself before teleporting back to the others. after arriving he pulled out the card the two girls gave him earlier as he pulled out his phone and dialed the number.
After Shepherd teleported away, Cal holstered his guns and adjusted his duster and hat. "Well, I reckon we're 'bout done here. Any of them varmints escape?"
