Remember tenebrous tentacles?

Remember tenebrous tentacles? I'd like some animations like that for any control set. Maybe even expand them for tentacles that strike.

If possible, maybe we could make them smart and actually wrap around feet and hands :)

Yeah even having just the ability to change the main "primary/secondary" colors on things like the Rocket Board would be great assuming that full customization was not possible.

OMG, you just gave me the greatest idea. Its probably not original, since single-person shooters and NASCAR games and even other MMO have had this feature before, but in this game it would be PERFECT fit for the reason you just stated..

Have a cash shop called the custom body shop, or something like that. You go to the shop and you get to customize your props, vehicles or other non-costume items with decals and paint jobs. It suppose it could just be a tab in the in-game costume shop, but I would personally like to see it as its own physical location in Titan City. (or several locations, each with its own options)

There's a whole Classification/specification that's going to come out after launch based around customizable pets called the commander, vehicles are going to be at launch, atleast I think, but it's going to be limited to things that you stand on rather than sit down on. Gliders and magic carpets over motorcycles and giant floaty chairs. "Mounts" will be an aesthetic skin for travel powers same as vehicles. Later on I think operators can get their own pets aswell, but in the shape of like a wall that blocks your path, though there may be more once we get more levels. If the devices power for support is anything like traps there would be pets their too but of the static variety, you won't be able to command them and they would be more like a patch of caltrops or a thing that floats over your shoulder or a specific place and gives you and allies in that zone or around you a buff or enemies a debuff. This game isn't really going to be like WoW. It doesn't really call for things like mounts as how someone like a guy who plays WoW or Wildstar would know them. If anything it would be more like skimming from DCUO, a power that is for all purposes is another power you can already get but looks differently.

Unless you're talking about vanity pets, which I don't think really belongs here... I made this thread because people on the costume request thread kept telling me that it wasn't really the right place to suggest power animations, so I made one where it is. Myabe we can make a suggestion thread for emotes and vanity pets and the like, aesthetics that don't really fall under the umbrella of either a costume piece or a power animation.

Now that you mention this, there could also be a multitude of rez'ing animations as well. For example a pair of magical AED's appear out of nowhere and shock you back to life, or a certain Wight looks at you and your eyes turn blue and you get back up. Stuff like that :D

I really like this suggestion. If there is an issue with resurrecting characters, maybe target their portrait or maybe have a targetable invisible body (or whatever scrap is left behind).

I remember that when I made up my LIBRARY of Mastermind control /bindloadfile ...er ... files ... I set up an emote for each of the commands that I would issue to my (in this case, Ninja) Pets. It was just something added on into each action command so that it made it look like my Mastermind PC was "directing traffic" whenever I was commanding them to do things.

So there were basically 7 commands you could issue to them, which I arranged in the following order on my NUMPAD (roughly).

Attack - Passive - Defensive
Go To - Stay - Follow
Dismiss

I then set up my macros in the /bindloadfiles to pair up the following emotes on my PC to the above commands:

It was just one of those things that made playing my Mastermind feel a bit more meaningful, seeing my Mastermind emoting to "direct traffic" like that to command my minions. Totally unnecessary, of course, but made the game at least 3x cooler to play.

Honestly, I think it's better to NOT have "default" PC animations for giving commands, because you want to leave room for Players to get creative with the tools they've got available to them. The real trick is to make Players AWARE OF (and understand) the tools to be able to do things like that themselves.

That's why you type on the wristpad.

I think it would make sense that we are provided with a default animation and are allowed to reskin the animation either with other default alternatives, alternatives from the cash shop, or with existing emotes somehow. (So sipping a cup of tea could be the perfect attack emote for a character who wants to be above the fray.)

And the animation should be something we approve during the power set customization segment of our avatar creation

Go play Blade & Soul and TERA and watch those animations! That's what we need in CoT! BnS works for pretty much every class. TERA pay attention to Slayer, Warrior and Elin Chain user (forgot the class name right now) :)

Quick questions about the ranged attack:
What happens if the target is flying?
Does the animation root you to give you a 'stable' returning point to finish the animation?
What happens if you die while the animation is going through its paces? Is there a interrupt death animation? Does the animation complete and you just flop tot he ground after it finishes?

They have used this as examples of possible aesthetics for ranged attacks, so at least they have thought of it already. More likely they already planned to include it at some point.

So I've been looking through powers and noticed how different you made snipes. I Think it would be cool to have different charge up animations for those like, maybe my mad scientist type could start mixing chemicals before throwing a vial of acid at a guy for his charge up, or my gun fu guy could due some gun kata moves before sniping his enemy.

I think the gauntlets could

I think the gauntlets could be something like familiars which are going to be something later on in the game, like pigeon man's laser shooting bird, except like a melee weapon. Though I can see some problems with those gauntlets being that size as it would make it way harder for people to go around you, especially when you're on a raid like the sewer run where there's a lot of tight corners. You might have to have them just as big the hulk's fists and nothing more. Unless we can make it so people can just walk through the gauntlets like they're not even there, but we would still have to deal with blocking everyone's vision.

You can just make people become transparent if they are blocking your line of sight, aswell as anything connected to said person.

Ehhh, not close enough :p Those give more a dark tendrils feel than a tentacles feel.

I'd love some good running attack animations.

A teleporting attack power like Lightning Rod, where you run very fast and kick, punch, or blast the target.

An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".

I remember that when I made up my LIBRARY of Mastermind control /bindloadfile ...er ... files ... I set up an emote for each of the commands that I would issue to my (in this case, Ninja) Pets. I then set up my macros in the /bindloadfiles to pair up the following emotes on my PC to the above commands:

It was just one of those things that made playing my Mastermind feel a bit more meaningful, seeing my Mastermind emoting to "direct traffic" like that to command my minions. Totally unnecessary, of course, but made the game at least 3x cooler to play.

The bindloadfiles were some of my favorite parts of playing a mastermind. I had sooo many variations for my team- from my minions doing the commands, to variants where they refused to take the command and just sat down, to them holding up various score placards after an epic win/fail... I think i spent more time creating those entire scenes than I had actually leveling up the characters.

For some powers, like

For some powers, like anything from the Vampiric lines, the animations ought to be 'reversed' from typical blasts and strikes, letting you 'siphon' or 'summon' from the target to yourself. Perhaps similar for a lasso-based repositioning/control power.

That looks like it would also make an awesome melee ability of "Don't get hurt-fu!"

Whether it be something akin to "Ultimate Defense and can't attack for however long" or "Ultimate Defense and can attack but obviously not as much defense"

One thing I would really like

One thing I would really like would be a spiraling energy animation for both melee and ranged attacks. Something kind of like what I have imaged here:

That would be cool for melee, but for ranges I’m thinking a longer thinner beam of energy that is spinning (would be cool for lethality to give the sense of “piercing” foes):

Yes exactly! I know we already have “energy” melee and blasts but I hope the devs will give us different flavors of energy blast outside of the straight up jets of sparkly light.

Like how ice powers can be icicles/pillars of solids blocks of ice, versus “frosty” powers like snow and freezing wind. Or wind can be “tornado like gusts” versus “blades of cutting wind”. If that makes sense

From my understanding CoT's 2 avatars will have almost the same range (possibly more) in the differences in the types of bodies you can make as B&S's 7 avatars put together.

Since B&S has much more "specialized" avatars (less "range" on the sliders) it's easier to make more fluid animations since you have less "body variants" to account for. If they can re-use an animation from one body for another then perfectly fine, if not then they'll create (or adapt from existing) a new one for that body.

Also, the playable classes for each race are different in B&S. So a lot of the animation interactions can be avoided by limiting the size of the characters to the animations available.

For example, the diminutive race, the Lyn, are only able to play the following classes: Summoner, Force Master, Blade Dancer, Warlock. Not one of those classes is a grappling or punching type class.


I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
