Personal rules of good roleplay
1.) Nothing goes as planned.
2.) If it goes as planned it's not good RP
Sorry, Rotten, this turns out not to be the case. Sorry, Summer, I've already written three quarters of this before I noticed your post. Too late to stop!
(brace for lecture)
If you put stress on a frame, it doesn't really matter what the source of it is, just whether or not it's coming in a direction it's designed for and whether or not that design limit has been exceeded. If you accelerate the ship at 10m/s/s, that's just a hair over one Earth gravity. Go for 20 m/s/s, and it's just over 2 gravities, and the entire mass of the ship, cargo, and crew counts as weighing twice as much. Now, if you've got inertial compensators protecting the inside of the ship (and the people in it), then your thrusters can accelerate the ship that much more without worrying about it, but then you have to worry about if your compensators failing, and if Damon is making her dance then either the compensators have to shift to match, or every change in direction starts throwing stuff around inside, as well as putting stress on the frame.
(end lecture)
Visual Aid: Get a clear container of your favorite beverage, preferably a sealable container, and a non-clear beverage for contrast. Drink until the container is about half full, then seal it up. Set the container on its side. Imagine the thrust normally going through the long axis, and the artificial gravity pulling everything loose towards the bottom. This represents normal flight, the inertial compensators effectively neutralizing the thrust from our model ^_^ Now turn the container, very quickly, from one side to the other, and watch how your liquid moves. That represents the stresses that turning the ship rapidly puts on the frame, as well as on those of us inside. Except by keeping the bottle on the table, we're making the problem simpler; Damon may need to pitch as well as yaw. Possibly at the same time. This is why you don't want second rate civilian off-the-shelf compensators in your smuggling craft ^_^.

The travel time through a conduit is negligible, maybe two seconds.
Okay heat, so what you're trying to do is jump through a conduit and then immediately turn around and jump again, correct? I'm assuming this is to foil pursuit? If so, that would be unnecessary. Without a transponder, the prison would be unable to track the ship. Jumps through IJC's cannot be tracked. But, if Damon is dead-set on doing the double-jump, the IJC would need time to close the first conduit and open a new one, which takes about twenty seconds.
If multiple ships want to travel to the same destination, each one has to transmit their destination coordinates. However, the "warm-up" period is only needed for the first ship, as the IJC will stay open until each subsequent ship has passed through.

Oh, this is not Star Trek, where flicking the inertial compensators with your finger will cause them to fail.
Inertial compensators are one of the most robust technologies on a ship. However, many pilots, especially fighter pilots and smugglers, prefer to crank their compensators down to get a "feel" for the ships movement.
At 100%, you will not feel any of the movement a ship undergoes. Most pilots set their compensators at 95%, while fighter pilots and smugglers typically set theirs at 90%.
Furthermore, compensators can be fine-tuned to apply different percentages to different areas of the ship. That way, pilots will still feel movement while their passengers or cargo will not. This would not place undue stresses on the ship, as it's simply an adjustment of the ships artificial gravity bubble to compensate for movement.

Ah OK, I can work with this. Part of the reason he'd want to would be to prevent active pursuers that piggy-back our destination transponder code or whatever we would call that. For now I'll table this idea until such elements get thrown into the plot and we'll just Jump normally.

yeah so it be one of the inertial commentators that Gar be readjusting.

Star trek's approach to inertial dampeners and compensators were always a reality check and bad plot device. It's like someone in TOS got feedback that something like it would have to exist and they made it fail every chance they could just to point out it was there...
“The story so far: In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.” -Douglas Adams
So the inertial compensators are not going to be a problem, even if Gar seriously overloads the thrusters? I won't weep too much for the loss of plot complications. ^_^

What problems Damon would cause with highly evasive piloting would come from brittle-metal shearing which I don't know if the inertial compensators would even account for, but it makes sense that some ships would have upper-limits to maneuverability that some sportier ships don't have - kinda like Top Gear's reasonably priced car going around their track vs a ferrari around the same track.
and I just realized I'm claiming Damon is the Stig, so nix that idea.....
OK how bout this... if we don't like the previous thought I had, we could go with some added gravitational forces during lags of whatever inertial compensation exists OR Damon is pushing the ship beyond what the upper limits can handle OR there's no effect to the crew OR the crew might feel a bit sea-sick.

Another option... THEY ARE BEING BLASTED AT! I'm sure some of those would cause some kind of damage and trouble. Don't have to be internal.

Sorry about that, GH. Totally missed it. :/ Mal was busy computing for nonexistant jump coordinates. Fixing Mao currently
I edited the post about the base to include a medical bay among the facilities, but I don't know if the edit will take, so just take into consideration that the base has medical facilities.
Alpha, the hologram isn't on the ship, it's in the main room of the base.
Sorry, heat, but I thought that an AI that was a bit racist (species-ist?) could be funny as hell. So I rolled a d8 and ended up with Damon. ;-)

FYI:
Mao's suit doesn't have much in the way of a true "computer"
there's no VI or even OS...
it's most accurately a super-science version of plate mail with google translate and a really complicated calculator attached to it.
there's no "wifi" and no ports to interface with.

Instead of a really complicated computer built into the suit, may I suggest that Nyhhsarian soldiers who are granted access to Temporal Claws also have a chip implanted in their head that allows them to perform the calculations necessary to jump with the claws? That way, they don't have to depend on exterior tech that can be corrupted/broken or otherwise disabled, in order to make their jumps.
Mal wouldn't be able to hack something like that because it doesn't have ports, unless he wanted to insert a probe into her grey matter. ;-)
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
as I have them written, the Nyhhsarians have very peculiar sensory perception (it's a long list, but I've posted it) PARTICULARLY those who are chosen as these scouts.
functionally, she'd likely be able to jump around the base with ease, without much more than calibrating the claws' frequency. Major jumps (pan-system/pan-galactic) require massive computation that would be unlikely to be accomplished by a simple "chip" in the brain.. not to mention the risk of diminishing other elements of her sensory perception in the pursuit of better computational ability
basically... from a story perspective, she can teleport in combat with relative ease, she can teleport around a mission space as long as she's not under fire, and she can only teleport further distances with significant time expenditure. Period.
whether that is all due to a chip in her brain, or training, or anything else is functionally irrelevant.
Also... I know I said platemail... but her suit isnt actually "metal".... even her claws, though they have a metallic quality wouldn't be particularly magnetic.
Her helmet would be... but I'm not sure how she couldn't just "take it off" (if a mine is sensitive enough to detect such a motion, it would likely detonate just by her normal movement, ya know?)
....And can we say that three hours of debate just passes, I think everyone's on the same basic page about Mao.

All the stuff concerning the jumping seems fine to me. I'm just a fluff junkie and the chip was an idea I had that I thought I'd share. :-)
Well, if the mine won't stick to her suit, then I guess it's the ol' gun-to-the-face approach, that is if she can't be talked to.
I'm ready for her to wake up whenever you are.

heheh... yeah, I get you.
Honestly, she's based on the Thanagarians.... who, on their person, are functionally "super people with tech that mimic's simple equipment"
so she's got crazy physical systems (I didn't make her super tough/strong or anything, though) and has seemingly simple tools that function like simple tools.. but do incredible things (you know, like Nth metal ;P)
working on a post now ;p

hehe, someone implied "magnetic"... just wanted to be clear.
ALSO, in the sake of clarity.... i'm a little confused about spacial relations, right now.
In the story, it seems like there are two rooms: the Medical bay, where Mao was placed by Mal, and then a place where people can be standing around talking and laying things out on tables (like a conference room/War room)
this would make sense, imo.... that these discussions don't necessarily take place over top of Mao's prostrate form. so in the "2.9" hours between the current moment and Lyhhah waking up, I'm just going to move you all out to a conference room.
I'll assume that Kr'kow's mine is in place.

....Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars...
If you take a rectangle and look at it top down, then the main room is the rectangle, with the lower long side sharing a wall with the hangar. The satellite rooms branch off of the top long side and the right side of the rectangle. The large screen is on the left side. The rooms are lined up in the order I listed them in the initial post about the base.
For clarity's sake, along the top long side would be the bunkroom / showers, the cafeteria / kitchen, and the rec room. Along the right side are the gym / training area / shooting range / armory, and the med bay. The consoles are in front of the screen, with the planning table behind them.
Any other questions? :-)

I know it ended up slightly out of order... but I'm a little confused by Mal's post.
is he close enough to touch Lyhhah? cause there's no way she'd be that close to another being, sentiment or machine, coming off the medical slab.. and if he'd approached this stand off would already be on a much steeper downward spiral...
I guess, I'm not sure if he's thinking:
"if we were going to just kill her, I could have done that hours ago!"
or
"enough talk, here, let me kill her right now"
If the former, that makes total sense, i was just confused.
if the latter... is there something he can do remotely, that hasn't been stated? because it's highly unlikely Lyhhah would take up a defensive position with a potentially hostile medical bot anywhere in arm's reach....

Not that it matters, much....
but baring in mind, for the future... If it can be sensed by anyone, and Lyhhah is in the area.... she can (most likely*) sense it also ;P
*she is vastly superior to humans in the 5 traditional senses (and the rest of the generally accepted 9, except for pain, which she is somewhat weak to)
likewise she has a myriad of other, non-human sensory abilities (such as ecolocation, electromagnetic reception, tactile taste reception, and pheromonal communication)
they're all listed on her sheet:

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/7029/image002lh6.gif my military tech guy said this will better explain anti-personnel mines o.O the dark orange-ish red zone is the "things will be harmed/maimed zone" less then 2 meters in the "safe" direction, past that is the "don't be here if you can help is zone" which stuff -can- but rarely flies around in. However he said that with the mine pressed and properly packed by a demolitions expert the yield could be lowered, and the charge shaped further by backing it (large and bulky bandage) to basically turn one person into a meat smoothy and leave the rest of the room smokey, loudly disoriented but otherwise A-OK.

Come on guys... this is going nowhere. :-/
Mao can't back down, she is universally stuck in a corner. from her perspective, she's dead no matter what she does (what reason would she have to trust people who strapped a bomb to her and are pointing guns at her, ya know?) so why would she make things easy on anyone....
for her, she already had her "show of good faith" by getting everyone out of their cells and to the hanger. and her reward is death.
standing down first would just mean she provides her aggressors with privileged information and has no opportunity to survive or get any semblance of vengeance before the end...
___________________________________
....Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars...
Actually, no one is pointing a gun at her anymore. Yes, the big blue alien is waving around four scary-sounding punch weapons, but Gyr'Val is trying to discourage that. But I will leave it to Lianre or Fortuna to point out the fact about the guns, since Gyr'Val is currently turned away from Mao.
Also, Viz'x deactivated the mine. Would not Lyhhah's superior ears have heard the click of the detonator or any sound the mine made as it deactivated?

Oh, i didnt' read that she deactivated the mine (I thought Lianre set it up, anyway?)
and I meant guns in general... putting guns away to make the fight "more fair" isnt really the same thing as cooling one's jets, ya know? ;P

This thread seems to have stalled a little bit and I'm trying to figure out a way around that. RL is keeping Oksana busy, so they can't find time to reply to my post. But I don't want Gyr'Val to turn away from Viz'x until she has replied to his question about standing down if apologized to.

I'm sort of stuck in limbo, too.... Mao's "patching up of team relations" is sort of in stasis until she can converse with Oksana's lady.... and I don't have much to say to anyone else, from where I am, until I have that convo...

The Kera-zad System is the home of a voracious, xenophobic, and ridiculously bloodthirsty insectoid race that has rampaged across the sector five times in the last three hundred years. Entry is forbidden with the exception of cloaked ships that guard the IJC and chase off, destroy, or apprehend any vessel that enters the system.
The race, which has no name that is currently known, is trapped in this system because they use bio-formed vessels that cannot receive the signals sent by the IJC. They have to capture vessels that are foolish enough to enter the system, then copy their activation and destination codes.
This is common knowledge for anyone that lives in or regularly travels this sector.

Personal rules of good roleplay
1.) Nothing goes as planned.
2.) If it goes as planned it's not good RP
The problem is that I've been having a major case of writer's block for about the last two months.
I've been considering a time jump to a point where they've decided to form a mercenary group, but we'd have to allay the concerns of Damon and Gar before that was done.
Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.
