Since you didn't mention the 1969 team based in the 31st century, I presume we're looking at contemporary rather than far-future.

I haven't done well in the past with sci-fi concept characters, so I doubt I'd jump in at the start unless I have a good concept hit me before it starts up. I like the idea though!

Glady: I'm not sure you're grasping the concept I'm striving for. These would not be Earth heroes. These folks would be the mercenaries, privateers, honorable pirates, raconteurs, ronins, and general assholes of the galaxy. Most of them wouldn't have even heard of Earth. Those who had would probably think it's a backwards shithole.
Heat: I'm sure that if you work at it, you can come up with a concept. If you've got any ideas, you can bounce them off of us. It's one of the things we're here for. :-)

If I can hit up the good ol' character cauldron I might be able to cook up a decent character. If I can do it before or around when the RP starts, I'd love to join. Where will it be set? On a ship, like GOFG, or what? Breaking out of a space prison at the start would be cool.
I haven't put too much thought into the plot, and I was hoping people would have suggestions or ideas. A space prison breakout definitely seems like it could be fun.

If I may. I don't believe Titan City Earth has advance space craft for interstellar travel. They are aware of Aliens and visit (even if not Cannon you know there are going to be visiting aliens).
Basically we be with out any Lore out there in SPACE. On the one hand this gives us an open field. On the other hand we have to craft Lore logic enough that we don't fumble.
For me I say lets try a Cowboy Bebop angle to our crew and ship. Instead of being rebels and outlaws we be bounty Hunters. That opens for different stories as we go after different space criminals. And who knows a visit to that strange world called Earth as well.
I say we considered Earth a Protected Planet. Limited contact only.
Okay now for what in the back of my mind. I want to play an Octopus like being (insert Galaxy Quest comment here.)

Cephalopodic Species could be a running gag people calling a squid. I'm thinking something with six limbs four for locomotion two for manipulation.

I'm thinking of playing a character inspired by Hawkman.
If you want him/her/it to be like an octopus, Rott, then why not go with 8 limbs? Or 10 if he's going to be more squid-like?
I know next to nothing of Uncharted or Chloe Frazer, Glady, but your idea seems sound.

I think about it.
As for the story idea. We can start out with a Jail brake, steal a space cruiser then head to a sector where whoever holding them isn't in charge. Then to make a living they can do bounty hunting between running cargo.
Oh I can see even how they become bounty hunters. They get a cargo shipping job and get attacked by pirates. Then get a reward for capturing said pirate band. "Hey we could get a lot of mula this way. What you all say?"

So, for our pirate band, we're going to need a funcrional crew. To aide character creation, can those of you who've already decided on your character and their background please state what niche your character(s) might fit? Medic, engineer, munitions expert, hacker, laser shooting badass etc.
EDIT: It may help you if you state what the character was in space jail for (if we're using that plotline)

Lianre, once catalyst for a mutiny, is now a hacker, gathering information on, among other things, information on pro-slavery politicians for their opponents. Unfortunately, on some planets, if those pro-slavery politicians are in charge, they object to such shenanigans. (No, she's not sure. She got the word from Henry ^_^)

My own character, coined Fortuna, is a renowned sniper and long range assailant, and as a treasure hunter/thief foremost, perhaps she helps supply their adventures and keep the cruiser stocked by making trades and bartaring? :)

Home Planet: Istapus 85% Water. Istapus people tend to not be a space fairing race. Istapus is rich in natural resources used in space ship construction and they sell these resources. Due to little useful land and the need to mine at deep sea, few other species care to bother attacking Istapus, let the natives do the hard work.
Physical appearance: Ten Limbs. Four for locomotion, Four longer arms with three finger like digits at the end, Two specialized tentacles near his mouth for eating. Two baseball sized eyes facing forward but can swivel giving him nearly 360 degrees sight (nearly he does have a blind spot directly behind him. Widens depends on location of the eyes.) Mouth and eyes are near his limbs. He has only one major body part his head and body is integrated in a cone shape. There are breathing flaps behind the eyes acting as both Gills and Lungs (He can breath underwater). Skin can change color and textures. When relaxed he's smooth primary white with blue highlights. There are two Fins running along his body that he can extend or retract (tend to flap wildly when angered or afraid). Thought he looks weak he's nearly all muscle mass and able to produce a large amount of force with his tentacles, and move them with whip like speeds.
Skills: Electronics, Engineering, minor computer hacking skills (mostly for ship stealing.)
Equipment: Translator device, Tool belt with his primary tools (looks more like a head band due to it being above his face). Normally a tool box with the more specialized tools. Attached to the tool belt is an eye device (think Google glasses with Star Trek scanner tech).
Criminal record: Grand theft Space craft, Braking and entering.
History: Unlike other of his race Gar-lox wanted to travel the stars. The desire grew so much one day he stole a small space craft and went off on his adventure. Wasn't long before he was captured and now serving prison time.
Outfit, His tool belt bandanna, If not that he would often have some kind of band on. For prison it be the prison shade with his ID number on it. Due to the Istapus body shape and the semi-Aquatic nature they never developed the need for clothing.
Physical abilities: Due to living in a deep sea environment his species have thick tough skin. Making him resistance to blades or blunt damage more so given he has no bones. His physical strengths is higher then standard beings again evolving for a deep ocean as well as surface life. Muscles have evolved to include small pockets that can fill with water to boost his strength when needed (natural hydraulics).

Lets talk about tech. Clearly they will have interstellar travel abilities, the question is how. Are they using Hyperdrive, Warp Gate (Stargate) tech, Mass Drivers, Warp Drives? Each open different story options, an example the Mass Driver and Warp Gates would open the ideas that the Gates/Drivers could be blocked off or deactivated. Perhaps like Babylon Five and have a Gate network that leads to and out of Hyperspace. They Hyperdrive and the Hyper Gate tech could lead to stories where they are trapped in Hyperspace.
The Ship they end up using also has Tech level issues. Will it have replicators? Or would they have to get supplies from time to time. What weapons system they have vs what weapons they might face. For example if they end up stealing a Civilian cargo Freighter or will they have that military/Police Cruiser from the prison brake out. Me I say they should have something more civilian at least when they leave the sector and head to the rival government of the people that held them prisoner.

Not just comic books. It's RP and I'm thinking of story options. As for comics they also follow logic with technology, even Green Lanterns Rings have a limited charge and follow set rules.

True like I said those conditions open up RP options. I'm not saying we NEED them thought it could be a means of opening story plots. Running low on supplies could mean raiding a station, going to some planet and scavenging for food.
On the flip side the Rules of said Tech applies to who we face. Those Pirate Raiders wouldn't need to Raid if they had working Replicators for example.

UM... I'd say the first ship would be anything fast. I know my character would pass over the easier to hack food truck for a cruiser that had a faster drive system to escape. Maybe something impounded?

An Impound lot. That would hint that the Prison area they be at is more of a Holding cell a temporary location till they are moved to a more secure location. That would work also explains why they be different levels of criminals there. Gar-lox for example just a one time offender of stealing a small personal craft.
Would also explain why they be willing to bust out right away before being sent to the more Heavy Secure location.

The Grease-monkey type is my character. Sure most of his knowledge is mining equipment but he that also means he often had to improvise.

My character likes to be the pilot (I'm pulling one of my bridge officers from my STO rp a few years back as the inspiration for Damon)... So Rotten, maybe our characters weren't so great at the last job they were attempting? Your guy gets us into the ships my guy flies them or something?

After reading this over I have a pair of ideas on characters. A) a four armed bruiser/heavy weapons girl that's species is a mix between arachnids and arboreal or B) The Artificial Intelligence/ tech expert of the ship that everyone steals. I am honest impartial between the two so whichever one steps on the least toes role wise and you guys think would be best I will develop out a bio for!

TECHNOLOGY
FTL: A system of Interstellar Jump Conduits (IJC's) connecting approximately 7000 explored systems. All IJC's are connected and the means to lock an IJC is yet to be determined. Most ships are equipped with a variant of IJC technology that allows for limited in-system jumps. It is unknown how far the IJC network extends, but it is theorized from the known jump codes that the number of IJC's could be as many as 500,000+. The current superpowers of the galaxy simply do not have the resources to explore that far.
SUB-LIGHT: A variety of sub-light engine technologies exist. The most common type is Ion Thrust Drives.
WEAPONS: A variety of weapons technologies exist. The most common types are Focused Microwave (Heater), Polaron Beam, Gauss Driver, Plasma Burst, and Ex-P (Explosive Projectile). Other less-common types include Sonic Disruptor, Graviton Pulse (Crusher), Explosive Gauss Driver (EGD's), Monowire Launcher, and Quantum Disruptor.

Speaking of Damon... Heat, can you expand on his species some? For the most part, I'm thinking that humans are still relegated to Earth, not spread all over like Star Wars. So there's no such thing as the Near-Human classification. Thanks in advance.

Do we have any artsy types? I have plans for them to eventually reclaim Vellar's ship, the Per'egryn, and that will be their primary craft. I'd like it to resemble a diving Peregrine Falcon, without looking too Romulan or Klingon. ;-)

OK... hmm.... bi-pedal with only 2 arms...May be closer to Nebari (farscape's gray girl Chiana). Fair skin = light gray, everything else is still consistent with the original description.... OK let's say his species is Tek'ari. They're short, agile/flexible, gray skin, black or white hair, black eyes, colorblind, but can see a broader spectrum than just basic visible light (a bit of ultraviolet some infrared, but no coloration). What else should I add..?

Wings on a space craft normally hints at atmosphere abilities. Or in case of the Romanians and Klingon weapons banks giving said ship broader weapons fire with minimal surface exposure.

as for the basic intro... is the set up currently that most will be in prison (in holding) and then others help instigate a break out?
It might be wise to establish a single individual being broken out, (the pirate seems reasonable, or the "captain" depending on his deal) and that the others become necessary to the individual's escape (the pilot, and engineer) while others intended to "go it alone" and end up joining out of convenience (Fortuna and our tree/spider girl)
I think i have the best "in", story wise, for instigating a break out (with the pirate running a close second...) but it's not a necessary component.

Why not both? what's to say part of the intended breakout plan was to get arrested to get into holding to meet up with the captain, with the "getaway ship" in the impound, and some others could decide to join along the way, presenting a tension when more than just the captain get grabbed, and how much the original crew want to take on...

Definitely more serenity/millenium falcon/Moya than enterprise. I don't think such a crew as we're brainstorming gives reason to have any ordered utopian scientific military exploration fleet.
Would the captain be known to the breakout crew or a stranger? If he's known, why would there be a benefactor to motivate the crew to bail him out?

my thinking is that most everyone is in prison with the captain.... (could be as simple as all getting bolo'd in a bar brawl (after the squid crashed his stolen car through the wall ;p))
the captain get's broken out by a contractor (either me or the pirate) and Either:
the others follow along as a viable means of escape
or
the captain "recruits" the other captives as necessary for their mutual escape
or
The captain drags some people along (mechanic or hacker, or both, and the pilot) and the others follow suit, or make their own way out, "stowing away" on the stolen ship

and either way I'm in complete agreement for a small ship and no NPC crew.
Damon is impulsive enough I recommend dragging him along more than recruiting or getting him to go along. He'd be opportunistic to break out, but not motivated enough to join without more carrot or stick.
Height would be like, about 1.6 meters or so at his largest.

well, it's nigh impossible to capture Lyhhah (think like trying to imprison kitty pryde) so she definitely works better as a potential rescuer.... an alternative storyline (if folks were willing)
someone (like our squid) has really rich family members who do not want one of their own processed and imprisoned.... when Lyhhah is rescuing said other person... the more "crookish" cellmates co-op the mission and convince the two that they'll "help".... or perhaps the would-be rescued person convinces the others to come along, to keep him/her from having to go and face the music back home ;P
i.e. it's not the captain or the pirate getting sprung... its one of the other folks. and the captain uses the opportunity to take the lead and get all of them out.

I was personally leaning towards the medbot:
Gained sentience. Jailed for dissecting patients instead of helping them. Error in code and such. After robotic rights activitists uproared about just destroying him, it was decided to send him to the holding facility to be transferred to a place of study and then to be ultimately 'killed' humanely.
He'd be relatively useful in an up-close fight, scalpels and bonesaws as melee, surgical laser for mid-range. Decent tool for a hacker as well. Just transfer his consciousness to an attack bot or ship mainframe and he could use it.
And I'll have to go back and really read the ship specs we're talking about before I say anything, I skimmed that part. 44 new posts since last night. Trying to keep up. :)
EDIT: Apologies, kinda slow. For plan as in plot course I also skimmed that, but I like the jailbreak, if that's not outdated.
the med bot could be on the ship already (we are swiping it from a space cop holding facility, after all ;P) or it could be something someone hacks/rewires as part of the escape plan, and acquires a "personality" of sorts due to the fiddling...

Sorry for the late response! And in all honesty, Fortuna would be scheming right along with the others, at the very least internally...
Perhaps Fortuna is encountered just as she charming her way out of her own cell, and perhaps upon escaping, decides to assist them as she realizes that she or the burgeoning group at hand won't make it out of there if they don't work together? :)
And I like the idea of the Captain being given the opportunity to escape first, and perhaps the group meets by chance, but leave together by choice? :)

Being reprogrammed ad the inside man would be fun. It'd also be easier to explain any actual usefulness in a fight. Maybe he could a repurposed A.I. that could be transtered through bots and utilities to hack more quickly or break into normally unbreakable things? The medbot would just be his normal host body?
Would explain how the Medbot got reprogrammed. The AI program would act as a virus infecting the Bot and taking it over.

Jailbreak seems to be set in mud, and drying fast. Lianre had planned on using the missing 600 g of TDX for getting out of the cell, other details would have to wait until she saw what other help might be available.
Awakening a robot as an escape plan is not out of character for Lianre, as long as the robot in question is not required to do anything against it's will after said awakening (of course, before the robot is awakened this is a non-issue ^_^). Lianre can't be part of enslaving a sapient being, AI or natural; her friend Libby (the starship [I]Liberator[/I]'s AI) would never forgive her. (Nor would Captain Martian, though Lianre wouldn't mention that this is a consideration.)
After seeing that the information she got arrested for gets to Captain Martian, she would have no objection to helping out with Gyrfalcon's ship.

That could work. I was thinking it'd be an AI separate from the bot and it was dumped into it's head to reconfigure it. It'd open up more background options. Although, I'm merely brainstorming here, I could work with awakened bot. :)
Edit: As in an AI specialized in reconfiguring pretty much anything, from bots to ships. I know an awakened bot would make more sense in a jail setting. Depends on how much the cap wants his buddies out.
I vote for someone hacking the bot and modding or altering the programming to awaken it.

I donno.. I kinda like this Cortana angle, Alpha.....
maybe you are "how" Kr'Kow is able to "crack" the med bot.... and how she was able to get a suture needle/thread and hide explosives
basically, Lainre dropped an "AI ally" into the medbot overseeing medical inspections as part of criminal processing and used him as a mule to get her "skeleton key" inside the facility.
this way... Alpha starts in his med-bot body.. and then can become "the ship" as we progress

This also eliminates the main fault of what I was thinking the best way to smuggle the gear in: a BCI would've found the package. But if the one responsible for inspecting said cavities is already compromised... BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Plus, if the AI virus is a volunteer, it pretty much eliminates Lainre's moral qualms.^_^

There will be many jokes to be had about that. I'm sure that the compromised bot would have comments to say about it too. X) Also, I was thinking about calling it/him/her/tofu M4LW4R3 (Malware). Are there any qualms with that amongst yous guys? I'm not aware if that name is taken by any other Marvel or DC character. Seems like it would be, IMO.

Alright I agree Malware being a self aware program/virus is kind of cool. And Kitt was in Knight Rider now Ghost Rider. I can now see Mal in some kind of R2 like unit saying "Hold on let me go change. This suit isn't equipped for what we be facing." The unit goes into the hanger then a few minutes later a big huge hulking battle Mech arrives "This will have to do."
