Discuss: Making room for the City
Trick question.
I had to do a complete hardware migration in the past 2 weeks, from my (almost 12 year OLD!) late-2011 intel iMac (locked to OSX 10.13.6 due to abandoware limitations) to a brand new baseline M2 mac mini (now on OSX 13.4.1).
My previous CoT launcher install was done via bootcamp to wind0ze, but that is no longer an option for me.
If I wanted to do a clean load installation of the CoT launcher on my new apple silicon hardware ... where do I need to go (and do) in order to accomplish that?
And since I'm presuming that any login/password information for my account will almost certainly need to be reset, what are the instructions for doing that?
Be nice to have such info available in easy to find location(s), just in case I'm not the only one in these circumstances.

I need to reinstall to Windows. Where do I get the download?
Found it and downloaded it. Also found my original install on my old PC. On both of them the Launcher initially just says Connecting... without resolving. If I click Patch I get a fatal error.
How do I resolve this?

Ahem. So I've been delaying a little bit, trying to get one more thing in and the mac build done before we launch this as the unified patcher. It's coming soon, just not right now. Like 'as soon as this person does this 10 minute thing' soon.

Ok. Connecting... is normal, the fatal error is not. Can we have a screenshot? Might need to open the firewall or tell windows defender it's OK.
Method - Windows Defender:
In the security options, there are certain settings, account security, firewall etc.
The only thing I use there is the firewall and the account security.
Deactivate the app and browser controls there, if you haven't already. (Temporarily)
Try to patch again and start the game.
Method - Firewall:
In the Firewall and Network settings, click on "allow access of apps [...]"
Look for anythng Unreal related click on the checkboxes so they are checked.
If nothing's there. Click on the button saying "change settings" and then "allow other apps", which is below the two buttons "details" and "delete".
Look for the "Launcher.exe" where you installed City of Titans and for "PlayerCharacters.exe". You need to do that twice for both files.
Add them, look for them in the list and check both checkboxes.
Now click on OK.

Lion, there's a couple of things we'd like you to try. First, see if Windows Defender, Firewall, or possibly your Anti virus is blocking the program. Second thing, is a question about what graphics card you're using.

edit again: That seems to have worked. And it looks nice. But I must go taxibotting, so I'll have to try actually playing later.

The Patch servers are back up again, and the new Launcher and patch is ready for you to download. Just click the Update button on your current launcher, and the software will take care of updating itself and loading new patches.

Thanks. I cannot see any account security or firewall settings that might be blocking. I have not used these settings under Win11/McAfee before. I'm not a complete novice but I have zero confidence in interpreting those screens. I'll try reinstalling when the client is up on the store.

hi, i patched the launcher but after it finished it still seems like the old one, picture attached, it's on windows 11, forgot to mention that

Sounds like a dumb suggestion, but for an MMO you should *never* have to click another button to finish updating / upgrading your installation. Click a button to *start the process*? Sure, not a problem. But past that point, if I click "play" it should be to just *start* the game, not to finish up any installation tasks.
As an idea: I have several "live service" games (Warframe, FFXIV (alternate launcher but official launcher is same). Whilst I may not always play them 100% of the time, they still receive updates, so I would still keep them updated. It is *not* unusual for me (or others) to start up the launcher to keep it updates just so that I can play it *when I want to* without having to spend time waiting.
Steam is similar, but more generic across the games (yes, if an update is due to be done, you can force the update *there and then* but you don't have to click the "Play game" button to finalise the upgrade / update.

but (and please take this as a feedback and not a complaint), Gangrel is right, the fact that i had to do multiple clicks just to update the launcher is bad, no other launcher that i encountered does this, i realize this is still a work in progress but especially in the released final launcher it should never take more than 1 click to update the launcher, this must be a must for all future releases, especially when we will get new joiners who does not know the history of this game.
but apart from that the new launcher looks stunning and i'm sure it will only get better, amazing work on that front, can't wait to see it all comes together

It's been almost 3 weeks since I asked about this line of questioning with post #2 in this thread.

The old launcher is still thinking it is ready to play the game. We did a little foolery so it downloads the new launcher instead.
The old launcher is not smart enough to self-update, so we can't change that label, without replacing it with something new.
So it still says Play.
We are replacing the fresh download with the new launcher, but it's taking a while to arrange for a storage that doesn't blow the git account - went from 160k to 400 megs.
Red, just go to store.missingworldsmedia.com and download it from your account.
As far as requiring a button press: we did it because after this, one-time replacement, people can leave it running to patch, then play the game when it finishes downloading. Maybe they started the DL and went to get dinner, no reason to make them rush.

Although the (cropped) screencap of the launcher looks gigantic here in the forums, on my 5k Apple Studio display (5120x2880) it looks ... tiny ... and the text in the progress bar is functionally illegible without the assistance of a magnifying lens (and even then, it's pretty crummy).

I have been keeping slightly in the loop about City of Titans and the other successor, but I have not heard much in quite some time. How are things progressing? A working launcher seems pretty good news.
