This is about Alan Dean Foster, and some of his works to which Disney has acquired the rights via recent acquisitions. One wonders how many other creators may be affected.

The general principle of one side modifying contracts when the property is sold is likely to be a major issue if this stands in court. This sort of contract gaming has been used against unions, as I recall. The telcos sold off low-performing regions a while back, which ended the union contracts those areas. But the issues are rather different here where there are basically property rights being transferred. Foster's work may very likely have been work-for-hire, which has somewhat different rules, but I'm not sure how likely a court would be to agree with Disney.

I'm not sure what would happen to Flinx and Pip, if they got Disney'd. Spellsinger series is ripe for a muppet-movie. He also novelized Alien Nation and a dozen others. Foster's a talented fellow. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Dean_Foster

Disney has purchased a lot of property recently and continues to suck up new properties. Disney used to have a lot of respect for those properties. I don't think Lucas would have sold SW to anyone if they were going to treat the writers and creators with such disrespect. I fear they've gone the path of amazon and google who started out with an honorable mission but have been corrupted by money minded execs, who only seek to squeeze the world for their own benefit.

Disney may still "respect" their properties but I'm pretty sure they didn't just get "corrupted by money minded execs" yesterday. Disney himself always had a reputation for being a bit "cutthoat" in his business dealings.
Then again everyone has their price. IIRC Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney for about $4 billion - apparently that was his price. *shrugs*

He also had a close professional relationship with Kathleen Kennedy who stated publicly that she would honor his legacy. So he probably felt like he left it in good hands. We all know how that turned out, however.
[hr]I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
