Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

I’m really happy to see this showcase is happening in a bit more official of a capacity than the last time it was shown off. It’s very exciting!

Will there be plans to show off some screen caps or videos of character creations by users and devs? Thinking for those of us who can’t be there it would be nice to see some stuff if possible.

Agreed.

As a pseudo-tangent, are there any devs located in the UK who might at some point take the AB to a con over here?

We did look into that, but the network connection is not stable enough to ensure a good quality.

Is it safe to give a rough estimate of what proportion of the character creator people will witness at the con? Like 80% of the AB will be on display?

I’ll understand totally if not but I wanted to venture to ask anyway :)

Eh, the "first hit" would probably cost me around $800 for air ticket and con fees. I could probably do it all in one day (red eye flight back home) which would save me hotel and car rental (considering the con hotel is right next to the airport there'd be no need for a car rental).

It is mighty tempting... but heck I'd almost rather give MWM the $800 and watch everyone else's vids. ;)

I'm inferring you mean it won't be at the con OR issue #0 for a while. Since there has been no talk about it from the devs, outside of one fire stomp, I'd wager no one that frequents the forums is expecting it to be in issue #0 anytime soon. I can only imagine there would have been at least one update on it if it were to be launching. I guess what I'm saying is that this isnt bad news so hopefully no one gives the devs grief when they get into issue #0 and see the animations tab is greyed out.

Compulsively clicking the refresh button until the next update.

The guessimate of the character creator being 80% complete from JWBullfrog is actually sort of what I would have expected. I'm sure there are plenty of "rough edges" yet to be sanded down but the major functional parts of it (the GUIs, sliders, menu options, save/load features, etc.) should mostly be there by this point.

Really the main thing that likely needs to be added to it now is simply more costume options. That's the part that we know will never technically be finished. ;)

JWBullfrog says that the AB project is 80+% complete and Tannim222 says that there are multiple projects that are required to realize the complete vision.

In general terms, how many projects are required to complete the design goal and what do those projects entail?

Also, can MWM briefly describe what an attendee can expect to be able to do in the Avatar Builder (or what will not be available if that is easier) so expectations can align a bit?

I might be able to get a friend or two to go to the con this weekend and it would help to be able to give them an idea about what they will encounter. They played CoH way back when and are semi-interested in CoT.

Well, since I'm the guy doing

Well, since I'm the guy doing project integration I have a list. When I open the integration project folder I see the following entries:
Assets
Clients
Manifests
Maps
Modules
Servers

Under Clients we have (a bit of a ways in) the CityOfTitans project.
Under Modules we have (a few steps in):
Marketplace
p_CoTAvatars (this is the character builder)
p_CoTCharacters (this is the characters themselves)
p_CoTChat
p_CoTCore
p_CoTIsland (that pretty little island we've been using for demos - remember the 4th of July and Christmas video? This is where they are set).
p_CoTLobby
p_CoTLogin
p_CoTSettings
p_Startup
ThirdParty

Modules, Maps, and Assets is where all the work is taking place. All the items beginning with "p_" are projects for the various plugins to the main project. Using a feature of our repository system the components needed for the main project are pulled from the subprojects. I'm currently working on getting the map projects set up properly, and there are a number of other plugin projects that need to be considered as I discover the need, but the ones above are the main one. Many are complete (or close to it). I just got new assistant (hopefully) I'm about to start training and I hope that will expedite some things more.

Does that answer that question? You can see why it's hard to put a specific value on progress - lots of moving parts right now.

Don't care... I recently re-installed CO just to have some kind of AB to play with.

And that is just a short list of what needs to be done right now. Scale that up several times and that gives you an idea for the entire game. Of course there is a bit of a carry-on effect in that once we have a piece done, it will be easier to duplicate for the next time it needs to show up ect. ect.

As for the earlier question of how functional the AB is, let me repost a video we made back in February. What we'll have at Norwescon is a more improved version of the one we show off in the vid.

There are still a few adjustments and additions to be made but overall, it's just about ready to go.

That answers the framework question, thank you. It helps set the landscape for us on the outside to understand what it means when MWM says X feature is close to complete when at the same time features U, V & W that impact X are not. Also, good news on the assistance front.

For the version of the AB that will be demonstrated, what class of features (costume options, aesthetic decoupling, props, emanation points, etc) will be available (or what won't be included if that is easier to describe)?

No aesthetic decoupling options are in the AB yet. That includes props and emanation points. The entire AD system is a separate project that will be added to the AB when it is finalized. The bulk of the work on that is the animation work required.

So it's already 7:30AM local on the first day of the con... where are all the hundreds of pics/vids of the AB we were promised!?!?!

P.S. Obviously just kidding but still hoping to see some good stuff posted before the weekend is done. :)

Well it's one of those "Thursday to Sunday" deals so I'm not seriously expecting much as far as people uploading their experiences with the AB until Saturday. Having a convention during Easter weekend might make the "standard expected crowds" for a convention like this behave differently than a non-holiday weekend.

NWC is not a gaming

NWC is not a gaming convention, it's a litterary SF con. Most of our guests are book authors. The game room is mostly board games (SpaceMoose and I are the main NWC logistics staff). The gaming LAN was added three years ago, mostly due to AngleWolf's personal perserverance in convincing the ConCom that the convention should get a toe into the computer gaming world. It's a small network of low-end machines; intended for older games with good storylines. We're not stupid enough to compete with PAX in their own back yard.

Too bad you couldn't have made an appearance at PAX East 3 weeks ago and set up in one their rooms on the 2nd floor. :-(

oof. 1 day notice is not enough. For S&Gs I checked flights leaving today, and coming back tomorrow. There were none. Good luck with the demo. I hope everything goes well and that you come away with more interest in a second chance campaign and some great screenshots.

Well, it is getting late on

Well, it is getting late on the last night of the convention, and nobody has shown any interest in the CoT Character Creator; so I'm afraid there won't be anything from the con to post. MWM was not giving a panel, a public demo, or anything like that, it was an offer to show it off to anyone who was interested. Nobody was; everyone wanted to play games that they had heard of. I believe the most popular games on the NWC LAN this year were Portal 2 and Mega Man.

So...when I get home I or Catbunny (my IRL wife) could try firing the CC up (neither of us have tried it since a much earlier version in January) and take a few screenshots if people here are interested. This would not likely be until Tue at the earliest (myself, SpaceMoose, and Catbunny are NWC Logistics so we will be quite busy for a while).

As Impulse King said the effort was appreciated. I think the venue (which honestly didn't sound well suited for this kind of game to begin with) combined with the very short notice led to what happened. If you could get to the point where folks might have even several weeks to plan ahead you might at least get some of the forum regulars to seriously consider making a trip somewhere like this. Better luck next time.

P.S. Maybe until the open betas you could organize some kind of "surrogate suggestion thread" where people could suggest character ideas and the best ones could be picked out to be created by the Rednames in the AB for display here on the forum every few weeks or so. Basically it would be the next best thing to being able to directly interact with the AB and could give people rough ideas of what their concepts could look like in CoT.

Perhaps as a secondary thread to the Costume Suggestions, we could propose some classic costumes and memes for Demonstrators to fool around with?

Some of mine are things like 'Hero in a Civilian Costume', 'A Faerie', 'Elf-in-a-Suit', 'Exotic Sorceress', 'Magical Princess', 'Wolf-guy', 'Rock-guy', 'Robot guy', or the ever popular 'I Am Death-guy' - pheer me! I also have a few 'Ordinary Child with Extraordinary Powers', 'Power Armor', 'It's All in the Coat', and 'Guy-in-a-Hat' characters. I could point to my DA and Photobucket galleries, but those aren't actually very extensive.

Oh! Almost forgot 'Captain Eep!' the super-powered mutant Rikti Monkey.

I'd love to talk about costume 'themes' and see what the Devs could create with that inspiration.

Be Well!

Beyond just getting to the convention there was the registration fee too

Quote:

Pre-registration for Norwescon 42 has closed! Full-weekend or single-day memberships will be available at the convention at the following rates:
Full weekend: $85
Thursday only: $50
Friday only: $60
Saturday only: $60
Sunday only: $40

Plus, the convention itself sounds like it is primarily focused on science fiction. The gaming portion appears to be tacked on to appease certain elements and the convention organizers are expressly not trying to compete with the likes of PAX (which is basically all about gaming). So it isn't too terribly surprising that no one was interested in a character creator for a game that is not widely known or recognized. :/

I look forward to seeing what crops up here mid-week.
Note: My friend was unable to attend (in the middle of moving to a new house), so their priorities were elsewhere. Sorry

I just had a brilliant idea

I just had a brilliant idea for how MWM could generate millions of pics and/or hours of vid footage of people using the Avatar Builder without relying on hit-or-miss conventions.

All they need to do is get one of their kids (I'm sure at least one MWMer has a kid in the range of say 8-12 years old) just spend a couple of hours messing around with the AB basically doing whatever they want. The clever bit would be to have the computer capture the entire session on vid or maybe have it take screen capture pics automatically like once a minute. The kid would never need to know their efforts are being recorded.

Obviously the MWM folks would then double-check the output to make sure it was presentable and obviously you'd keep the kid completely anonymous. The end goal would be to generate a huge amount of random pics/vid showing all the menus and options and how a "typical user" might maneuver around the AB to make a character.

I'm not really seeing a downside to this idea... ;)

Well I suppose they could substitute any competent human to do it. My idea with the kid angle was A) you wouldn't have to pay them and B) most kids aren't as busy as adults and it could be counted as a "fun educational/artistic activity" for them. If MWM could find an adult that had the time to do it (like maybe a retired grandmother or something) then that would work too. I'm not really too picky at this point. ;)

See that's why it would work. A kid could sit there and treat it like a GUI based coloring book and not really be too concerned about trying to "produce results" or worry about getting paid or all that nonsense the typical adult would whine about. Basically you just need someone willing to tinker around with the AB for a few hours and I could see a kid having fun with it.

I figure at this point even getting to see a "crazy" character a kid might dream up would be educational to me because it would begin to show the capabilities/limits of the sliders and options.

Sure why not?

Another advantage of getting kids to test drive the AB is that they might attempt to do "unusual" things with the GUI that no typical adult-type player might ever think to try which could uncover bugs that might have otherwise gone undetected. There's no reason why a session with a kid like this couldn't also double as an extra beta testing opportunity. ;)

Unfortunately, the Massively article has five really generic / basic costume shots and four sentences to frame them. Including a link to the Norwescon post. Unfortunately, nothing came of Norwescon and Massively posted their article on the 20th of April (the 3rd day of the four day con). Does this get filed under the "any publicity is good publicity" folder? :/
