Showing off some of the great work of our Landmarks team. Big thanks to Nate Purkiss for making this one happen.

Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.

Nice update! Love seeing what

Nice update! Love seeing what we can expect to see from the cityscapes. Great work!

Trying to get past the pre

Trying to get past the pre-alpha plasticy look :p

https://cityoftitans.com/sites/default/files/1%20City%20Hall%202wm.jpg

Biggest critisism here, on the sides, it looks like the furthest portion is totally unsusable as office space. Would be better served as a booth of some sort or just hollow concrete.

https://cityoftitans.com/sites/default/files/7%20Ephesus_Harlan%20Law%20School%201wm.jpg

Brutalist architecture is hilarious :p It looks like it was built upside down.

https://cityoftitans.com/sites/default/files/13%20Black%20Star%20Tower%20Mogul%200wm.jpg

My favorite by a long shot, but of course my favorite characters are dark, mystic types so yeah :p

Overall, let's just say I wish I'd've gotten a Mogul ;)

Great update. Love seeing

Great update. Love seeing this stuff. Phenomenal diversity in architectural styles and just general vibe from these examples.

Really looking forward to seeing how all these buildings mesh (or clash) with their surroundings in-game.

City Hall is, uh. BIG.

City Hall is, uh. BIG. Certain areas may not be directly accessible from the outside - the footer buildings are connected through the underground for, uh. reasons.
Hopefully, you'll see them one day. Let's just say that this is a building, made with supermodern technology, that is the center of the most superhumanly active city in the world.
It's not defenseless.
Oh, and you're seeing some of these buildings from a distance of half a mile away or more.

I never thought I'd care for updates like this, just buildings. How wrong I was! This is a phenomenal update! And if this is any indication of how much work and effort was put into the rest of Titan City, well I can't wait to get THAT update...hopefully a few months down the road. I can't wait to see what these look like in the City. Well done. Bravo.

EDIT: I also love the background on the last picture of the Gothic Tower, the mountains way back in the background. That's awesome.

Compulsively clicking the refresh button until the next update.

We thought you'd like to see

We thought you'd like to see something that wasn't Avatar Builder for a change.
Technically, City Hall is based slightly more on the Hollywood Bowl than Union Terminal - that's where the 'hemisphere with two boxes' look came from.

This may have been addressed

This may have been addressed before but will there be a platform in Alexandria for costume contests? I feel like the platform under atlas in AP was so detrimental to the community. Every time I logged in and went to atlas there were toons of all levels just hanging out. Like 50 at least at any given time.

We do have a few places in the works that might take on that same role. We'll just have to see.

The Phoenix Statue is in the middle of a fountain, so unless you're doing mermaid cosplay, likely will not have many costume contests there. That said, we have areas where we expect people to congregate for such contests.

You know, it's funny how City

You know, it's funny how City Hall is like a bunch of terraced stages you could stand on for a costume contest. Or maybe you'd like to go to Old City Hall and give each contestant their own window, on the building sides.

Or, well, there's other places, and other things you could do. But trust us, we've tried to make the environment a place you can interact with.

Does this mean the interiors match the building? In cox we had all sorts of buildings but often times the developers reused mission maps that were obviously not part of that building. I like to be able to look out a window or look through the window on the outside and believe it matches. Know what I mean ?

Either way it looks amazing!

I agree with you. However, I'm assuming many, maybe even most, in-a-building missions will be instanced so this may not be possible.

Though, you may be able to get this in buildings that have bad guys but no instances, like a 'street sweeping' mission.

So I guess the answer might be yes and no? Some buildings might just be open while others you can technically only 'instance' into, and in that case, if there are windows, they probably won't show an accurate picture of the city where that window would be.

But that's just my guess...I look forward to the answer sometime in the future.

I think that's wise at this point. Unless the update has something to do with UI or powers customization, I think we get the gist of how robust the avatar builder will be.

This update was fantastic, and helped me better grasp what the city I'll be flying around in will look like. The city hall is certainly a worthy successor to Atlas Park's central area!

I'm hoping that any instance linked to a building will, by default, start with the inside of the exterior as its outer boundary. I especially hope that this will be the case with a certain mogul building that has not yet been seen; I'm eager to start furnishing. ^_^

Speaking of that, this update is about the landmarks and they exterior but, did you do the interior or just the exterior ? (which are already really really great).

I think my 2 favorit are the black star tower and Harlan Brown Law Center (The City Hall is over my favorite ^^ I really like the way this building was designed because it looks like a string of giant grandstands to host a concert or a speech ^^)

The city is assembled out of pieces, called tiles. A large reason why "whole areas of the city" haven't been shown around is because we've focused work on tiles with landmarks and moguls, with literal generic blocks standing in for the rest of the city. The building tool allows us to convert the generic blocks into buildings quickly, but we want all of the iconic pieces in place first, so we can adjust the generics size accordingly to make everything work from a game mechanics standpoint.

Very different. For example,

Very different. For example, an average building story is about ten feet, from the outside. These buildings are built to that scale, as were CoH's buildings.

Interiors? Minimum ceiling height is 4m, or about 13 feet. It has to be, to accommodate an 8 foot hero using whatever our equivalent of hover is called (possibly just a mode of flight). To be wide enough for 8 man missions, a minimum interior hallways is 6m wide. These measurements all match CoH missions, and are necessary for them to be functional. Because game interiors do not have the same function as their real life counterparts. A real building interior, made like a real building, would be a terrible game level design. The two cannot meet. Realism will not happen. We can help make it less obvious of course, and will. And there are tech tricks we can do to make windows in missions look out on the views they should have had.

If you analyze a TV show set,

If you analyze a TV show set, for example, you'll notice a lot of things aren't as realistic as they could be. Tables and couches are set up so the actors all face the same way, there's extra clearance so cameras can move around, clear paths so actors don't trip, etc.
If memory serves, the Star Trek TNG Enterprise sets were built to 7/8ths scale so the crew looked more 'heroic'.
We're trying to err on the side of making the game fun, over making the game realistic. There are some losses we've had to settle on - one of them being, for example, oversized doors so that a pack of pets doesn't block them for everyone.

Thanks for all the hard work, Red; the stuff looks great.

And as a side note, get on Lin or one of the other Forum gurus to get you set up with a MWM badge.... Unless you're undercover as one of us ordinary schmoes.

Some changes you can notice from that older version of City Hall - if you notice in the pics of the newer version the side 'arms' of the building have been broadened, doorway has been raised with a much broader set of stairs to create an area for players to gather at the steps... (also some additions to the back of the building that you can't see in the video). Fun to see a little bit of what it might look like in game...

I am certain there will be continuing work happening by volunteers regardless of when the launch happens. If you are interested in any skill the game might need (but especially 3D modeling) and have the time to learn, go for it! You could totally be a part of making the game happen!

There was some fiddling with the set size, but somethings were made strictly for practicality. The width of the Enterprise interior hallways were set by the width of a standard wheeled camera dolly, for instance.

I'd submit that the reason for that state of affairs is that those games aren't trying to be GAMES ... instead they're trying to be "Honeypots" for siphoning money away from the Players. It's the reason why so many online "games" stop being pastimes or diversions (or simply about having fun) and instead descend into becoming sweatshops/jobs in which THE GRIND is the purpose. They stop being endeavors of relaxation and pleasure, and instead become competitive contests of endurance (in the "game of chicken" sense). Take this to the extreme and you get ... the Korean market, and "professional" gamers.

And that's what the big publishers/studios believe they have to cater to in order to have a playerbase AT ALL.

No wonder they're f(l)ailing badly ...

In my opinion, it is what happens when the finance team and ceo become involved with the game designers in the game planning meetings.

It turns everything into marketing a product to buyers instead of making a game for players.

Game companies focused in business instead of making a good game. When game devs get to focus on game design and make a good game, people will buy it.

Now it seems it is more about designing a product intended to capture whales and siphon them for every lining they can get.

Only if the superior product is produced in enough volume (in this case, server capacity and genre coverage) to supply the entertainment needs of the customers of the inferior games.

Note that it doesn't have to happen immediately, as long as the superior product continues to bring in enough funds to drive expansion. ^_^
