Actually the name and character is an homage to superman. He was an Inv/SS character and his bio stated that he was here to "investigate the sudden surge of incredible energies coming from this planet". There was more to the bio, in that he had no powers until arriving here.
I did know of the existence of Cygnus/The Swan, just not the little tidbit about the Northern Cross that comprises a small part of it. Cygnus is also one of the largest constellations in our northern skies.
Just watched this again. I cannot see what I missed. Really thought I had something with the bones theory...Curses!
I think when the Devs present the big reveal we are all gonna facepalm cause it was right there in front of us.

It's the title font. It is slightly bigger than before. That's the big reveal.
Also they resolved some minor kerning issues.
Watching it for the umpteenth time, have we heard in lore about a specifically meta-human task force?
Also, the small American flags on the statue are blowing in opposite directions which means the game physics are off or the wind is somehow splitting when it hits the statue. Also, the flag on the left isn't touching the statue?

What if you are a part of that Meta Human taskforce...:P

I don't see how that could be unless we are putting heroes behind bars XD

Or the taskforce is made up of Meta Humans?
I'm saying I wouldn't be in the task force unless we were hunting heroes because my character, Dark Cleric, is going to be a villain so I wouldn't be hunting villains, much less on a task force for the TCPD or anyone else seeking to 'do justice'.

What would stop villains from hunting villains? If it served your purpose it should be fine, as that literally is what defines a villain.
amazing work on the vid
Every character has their own definitions of "Us versus Them". Frankly I like the types of villains who would dutifully serve undercover on a "heroic meta-human taskforce" for years biding their time until they had the perfect opportunity to perfectly nuke the city to ashes...
As Cersei would likely say it's all about the Endgame... ;)

It's my personal belief that the Villainside story should be based around game of thrones style backstabbery. Where a hero is trying to save as many people as possible, a villain is trying to screw over others while trying not to be screwed himself. A villain would fight alongside heroes against another villain because that villain is competing with him or he has something he wants. The heroes are just an end to a means. They're not their because they want less crime, they're there to help themselves and they've entered a temporary partnership with the heroes. Although I think it would be interesting if the villain could try to screw the heroes over, just something that changes the story of the mission, maybe gives the villain a bonus, but not something that penalizes the heroes, and if everyone checks off a box somewhere that they're okay with sudden PVP, we can even have the villain start attacking his former allies. Maybe when they do that everyone gets a window that says "this character did such and such, do you want this to be PVP mission now?" and they could check a box that says either yes or no, and the only time it would be a PVP encounter is if everyone said yes, no majority vote here, either everyone is okay with it or it doesn't happen. We should also give the heroes an equal opportunity here where they can get the cops involved and the fluff is that the villain PC flees after the mission is over. Biggest thing about this is denying the other party a bonus however no giving the other guys penalties.

My personal villain is a 'lawful' villain, meaning I follow my own set of rules of conduct. Lawful in this case doesn't mean I follow *the* law, rather my own. Part of that is similar to how heroes stick together; sure I won't hesitate to screw over another villain for my own gain but I wouldn't go so far as to get them arrested or killed. That's the 'lawful' part of my villain complex; I see good and bad in a city as a balancing act of sorts. To some degree villains need to 'stick together' against heroes, like say sending a warning if they see a trap by heroes for another villain, but they don't need to get in the heroes' way themselves or put their own neck on the line.
After all, the more villains there are out there, the less time and resources the 'heroes' have to spend on me.

Yeah but the more villains are out there, the more competition you have for stuff you wanna take and do. Plus, if all villains where allies with each other, the villain side of things wouldn't have any note worthy conflict. Plus, how good you keep your promises is part of "Honour" alignment not the lawful one, and if you are too trusting as a villain, you're just begging to get screwed over. You want to make it in the underworld, you got to be smart, and you got to be careful who you trust.

Competition isn't a bad thing and Titan City is big enough. I explained what being lawful means when it comes to my character; I want using whatever system you are referring to. When did I say I would be trusting as a viallain? I didn't. I'll be the villain i want to be, not whatever version you think I should be.

Right sorry, thought you where saying that there shouldn't be any competition between villains and that we all should be allied together. Totally misread that, you do you :]

Just remember, there won’t be a villain/hero dichotomy in CoT. There will be a path that’s more villainous you can choose to follow, and you can make choices that put you on the “evil” spectrum, but there is no clear hero/villain divide like there was in CoH/V or is in DCUO. You’ll likely be fighting side-by-side with PCs who fall all over the spectrum.
Who is a villain? A pacifist who routinely flaunts the law? A violent person who won’t hesitate to take lives of criminals and other lowlifes, yet frequently saves the innocent? What about the “upstanding” person who vigorously enforces the law and never breaks it, yet won’t help a person in need unless it serves their own interests? MWM has said that whether your character is a hero or villain will depend on how you feel about your character, to the game it’s all shades of grey.
Why does this discussion remind me of Dr. Evil being upset that his son Scott is not being the right "kind" of evil:

For what it's worth like I said every character can have their own "mindset" for how to deal with the world. To borrow the old classic AD&D alignment system I can say I've played characters over the years that fell under pretty much every alignment category from Lawful Good to Chaotic Evil. TBH, the Lawful Evil ones can be interesting because the things they consider to be "rules to be followed" can be extremely "creative" if handled properly. ;)

My explanation for my evil character was how I judge him to be a lawful evil character. It's my own RP reasons why he is what he is. I never mentioned where he would fall under CoT's system because I wasn't talking about the game mechanics...I'm talking about who my evil character is and what he is like. It's not apples to apples, my definition of lawful evil and the games.
Compulsively clicking the refresh button until the next update.
But it will be interesting to see if CoT's collective alignment/reputation system will be flexible enough to effectively "represent" your character's mindset in terms of the game's mechanics. I myself am looking forward to seeing how much of my characters' "mental worldview" I can accurately reflect in the game's accounting for these things.

That's a good point. I'm really not a huge rp'er so this doesn't matter too much for me. Being able to be a villain will be enough for me, whatever form that takes. But I agree that the more there is in this regard the better for those who really want to immerse their character's RP'ing.

I just had a thought come out of nowhere. The devs kept saying we were missing something in the July 4th video...I'm not sure if they ever specified what they were talking about. Could it be the video itself? If its all in-game with CoT assets, unlike their previous videos, this could mean we'll get some awesome cut-scenes and hopefully a decent game trailer. I know they won't have voice actors for the game...but I hope they get some for a sweet trailer. Or maybe not, idk. I'm excited to see a trailer with a finished, polished portion of the city...sometime next year.

No it is an Easter egg,
Nothing crazy.

I went nuts trying to figure that out. I give up. Soooooo. What was it? What did we miss?

I'll wager a bet they wont say until after the chargen release. At this point I'm fine with that. I feel like they're holding back on a lot of cool news/info until Issue #0...some probably related more to the 'game' than the chargen...well, I can hope.

I think it was the picture of the first female character with hair and costume. The only time we saw a female model was during prototyping. That means the CharGen can handle both the male and female model :) (it wasn't able to handle it few month ago)

Ok. I'm going to say the Easter egg is the various reflections. You can see something in the car near the beginning, definately have reflections of fire works on the statue and I swear I saw a glimmer of something on the shield.
And I love the music by the way. Sets the mood so well.
Hi. I'm Hope.
Damned !

Ok so I know this thread is pretty dead right now but I've been thinking about this undiscovered easter egg...
I'm not sure about this but I'm seeing a bit of symmetry between this video and T2 Sarah Connor dream sequence.
1.Dream starts walking on grass. The 4th of July video starts showing grassy area.(great quality grass/flowers btw)
2.In the dream the skyline in the distance behind playground is of city skyscrapers. The 4th of July video has what appears to be a skyline in several reflections, particularly the lighthouse glass looks like it is showing some skyscrapers across the bay or whatever waterway.
3.In the Dream there are pretty bright reflections on the playground toys. The 4th of July video has reflections galore which are all pretty damn good.
4.In the Dream there is a bright, glaring flash that fills the screen. In the 4th of July video, the last firework we see in the distance between the pheonix wing and the main Lighthouse structure seems to be immediately followed with a glaring white flash that fills the screen (like a nuke) then fades to the City of Titans title screen.
My guess is this is somehow part of the undiscovered easter egg. Perhaps some endgame material being hinted at here. Perhaps something to do with Cumulus Rex having the last laugh, I don't know...
T2 was in theaters on the 4th of July 1991 but in the movie Judgement Day was August 29, 1997. Now when Sarah Connor makes the statement about the SPF 2 Million she is housed in a mental facility. Perhaps Hardlocke is actually a facility for mentally unstable Titans?
I think the whitish material near the "Crown" is likely a skeleton weathering away...
I can't help but think the egg is somewhere in this but I'm missing/over thinking it...

rockslide, you’re lukewarm at best. Definitely reading far too much into things. Easter eggs are usually subtle and simple.

But it's a great sounding theory.
Wait until you see the... nope, that would ruin the surprise.
Lol thanks! I put a lil too much thought into it... I’m thinking my parents didn’t like me cause I had to look pretty hard to find all those eggs! Lol

Is it the statue's pose? a 'subtle' example of different heroic poses?

Crazy as spending an hour trying to get the QR code on the "no trespassing" sign to be recognized by my phone, hoping for a secret message?
Okay, somewhere there is a clue about an easter egg tangentially related to something rookslide mentioned.
I think in this case the easter egg is something a bit more niche than most of the future playerbase and former playerbase is aware. The problem with some easter eggs is that while they are sometimes simple for the initiated but would never make any sense to those outside. Take for instance the two NPCs in the dev room in Faultline. If someone happened to stumble in there they would have no clue who those NPCs were or what significance they held. So they can clearly see the easter egg but have zero comprehension of the importance.
I think this is probably the case for this video. We can easily see the easter egg but don't comprehend the significance.

Maybe the Easter egg is the actual video they are showing us how far they have progressed in making the game and it is almost in a playable state.
