The improvements from the beginning until now are astonishing.
I was not expecting that level of video. What a great surprise today. It gave me a shiver and if I didn't know anything about City of Titans, it would make me think of some AAA teaser. The music, the editing, the heroic sayings and the last figure made for a moving video. Best of all it was not an exclusive cutscene but made in-game...wow. Well done!

alright so question about the shield... are the stars mandatory? Like without the stars or even that blue shape they're on that looks like a very basic high tech shield. So is that the result of someone just moving a symbol over to the middle of the shield or is it made like that already? Like with the stars there's less you can do with that, but if I can remove the stars and replace them with any other symbol, I could do more with that.

This summarizes my hopes and dreams for CoT. Check it out if you'd like.
I can answer this:
As it currently stands, that shield pattern is a pattern of its own, as “Stars and Stripes”. We are planning a system to have predetermined spots for emblems for certain pieces, and that would be a general pattern called “Emblem pattern” that would basically have a list of all the available emblems and plug those into determined spots depending on your choice.
You can have stars in your stars though ????

I could be wrong but I don't think it's an update...just a fun 4th of July post. I only say that because, despite there being a cool vid, there is no 'reveal' of anything like lore or mechanics.

I think the confusion is that this is in “Discussion of Announcements” but there’s no accompanying announcement. Not that I’m complaining, it’s an exciting video and one heck of a teaser.
So in my attempt to find the “Easter eggs” that were mentioned, I became fixated on two things. The first being the QR code on the sign we see (I don’t know why, but I really want this to be functional, even if it just links to a page on the CoT website). The second one being the side of the TCPD car. My reason is because there appears to be text on the side of it that is more than just a reflection. I am sure I am looking TOO hard into this, but I wanted to put it out there to see if anyone else noticed. I took a screen cap and inverted the image to see it “best” - I can try to link to it when I get off work if needed. Personally, I see “Respect” but I am open to other possibilities (or flat out corrections from any of the Devs). So... thoughts?

In another discussion they revealed that the shield is going to be a thing and in this one they revealed how they would let us put symbols on the shield. Sooo I'd say that's important mechanics :]

This is true. I don’t think shields were ever officially mentioned or shown before as player props. So this is pretty exciting to me. Shields shouldn’t automatically be assumed to be included in a superhero MMO. DCUO didn’t get them until a later update, and CO still doesn’t have them (just force fields you project as a blocking power).

The police cruiser, good eye. That is, in fact, a real detail. Like many other agencies, they took surplus police cruisers from elswhere, and repainted them... but if you look just right you can see the hint of the original paintjob. A nice subtle touch I must give Charles credit for creating.

Well, the PR people didn't expect it to be ready until today so they were out celebrating the 4th with family. But when the rest of the team found out it was available so soon we wanted to share it quickly. We were amazed how quickly it was put together and how many elements it had. We are so much further along than we realized - I think we only started discussing putting this together last Friday. The artist working on this part of the map passed his work on to me for archiving, I split that sub-project into a new one so we could do this presentation without damaging his work. Then several other people worked on the music, character, fireworks, and recording. The guy who finalized everything worked on it on the day we thought he was going to take off. Some of us get pretty dedicated like that.
FWIW, the screen grab for the front page announcement came from me and I only got it a few hours ago when what was wanted was fully described - that's part of why the delay.

I think all of it is fantastic! The subtle inclusion you mentioned, the real world tie-in with the QR code - this city that everyone is working so hard to create is a wonder. For what it’s worth, I am very appreciative of that level of detail being put into the game. Thank you very much!
So, a question regarding the paint job... is there more to it than what I saw in the video? Or was this just an example of how the TCPD has to use whatever resources they can? If it is the latter, is this something I could learn about more if I read through the cape chasers section?
I have been trying to avoid reading about the in-game characters and lore as much as I can, because part of what I thoroughly enjoyed from CoX was learning and experiencing everything first-hand in-game.

The paint is to add just a touch of realism. In the real world, things are not perfect. You have cars with mismatched fenders, damaged windows, ones which used to belong to, say, the TCPD highway patrol being reassigned to Lockehard duty, and so forth. It takes only a little bit of extra work to add these things, but that touch really makes the difference.

Your last sentence is like music to my ears. I could not agree more with that sentiment. I am the type of gamer that enjoys running around in the different zones and admiring the work that goes into the environment - a part of many games that I feel goes unnoticed more than it should - and I can picture my main in City of Titans doing just that. I am excited to see first-hand what other details the talented team at MWM puts into the game!

We've actually discussed this. I know Paragon Studios actually did something with product placement if I recall correctly. I'm not sure how players will take it though. I've an idea percolating about this but I probably missed the final decision on this particular topic and may just have to shelve such ideas.

It was short-lived and Nike was the initial sponsor. Supposedly it wasn't well-received by the playerbase and Nike didn't see any immediate positive returns and therefore removed their product.
I remember that. They wanted people to fly directly in front of the in-game billboards. It wasn't enough that you could see it from a distance but had to be close enough to register someone was viewing the ad. I didn't mind them but they probably should have gotten a Paragon artist to design so the aesthetic matched the rest of the game.

I mean, you can Alt-Tab out of the game to your browser of choice and do the same thing so there’s no practical benefit. But 13 years ago it was mind-blowing that you could do it.
As for in-game ads, of course Anarchy Online had them everywhere on in-game billboards and it helped defray some costs of running the game.
Yeah, it wasn't terribly realistic on Nike's behalf, which just goes to show that they didn't know the customer-base that they were trying to market gear towards. Now, don't get me wrong, I loved Flight as a travel power but I generally used Superspeed because, you know, it had the highest travel speed and thus got me to where I was going the quickest. It certainly didn't help that the majority of the playerbase didn't play for concept and take powers like Flight, which there's nothing wrong with, but that almost meant that quite a few people just took Superspeed, or at the minimum Superjump, and didn't take the time to ogle some billboard somewhere. I mean, c'mon. There's crime to be had/stopped.
I guess I can create a thread about doing some kind of in-game ordering or some such. Talking about it doesn't hurt even if it never sees the light of day. I don't want this conversation to get too far off the rails.

Well the helmet itself looks like something out of a fantasy film, it can't be the 5 dragons though because it looks like more of a European thing.... that leaves the Deadly 7, The Reagency, The Unfortunate and PIT. There's a PIT car already there or atleast a TCPD car painted like a PIT car... so they might be already investigating what happened here, which is why a PC hero is there because they asked for support and a Titan is the perfect freelancer for these types of things, so something must have happened to the person who had that crowned helmet. There's a titan there so this must be when the game comes out, meaning that it can't be Prudence Norman since he's disappeared before the game starts which means that it belongs to either The Pardoner, Alaric or one of the leaders of PIT, though it could also belong to one of the deadly 7....

My search is not finding out a lot about Lockharde. OK so I am getting warm. If it isn't a prison or a PIT facility,,,then what would need a team of super humans to protect it? A evil corp research facility?

But is the sign and car connected? is it ALL connected?
if everything is connected and the island is a PIT facility, then the helmet could belong to Hexbane. A villain who collects cursed objects.

"Heroes may fall but heroism never dies" feels like that's a reference to City of Heroes to me. Which if true, I love it. Also the character with the shield really reminds me of Falcon with Captain America's shield. In fact that's who I thought it actually was until I looked closer at the shield :P

Bingo. I've only run into references to Lockharde. So no prison. What else will have the level of security seen in the video. That's why I thought of PIT. It's the only other legal entity that might purchase used cop cars. An evil corp would have new vehicles.

No, no, no. Through a mix up with one Dev mis-remembering anothers work, Hardlock got changed to Lockehard. There is a prison on that island a-la Ziggurat
It will be a comedy of errors for a while until all is sorted and fixed.
