I usually take a long look at what is and is not possible (or accounted for) in a game when I play. Then at some point I impose a guideline for what I want to achieve with a character and I work towards it (tangible goal or RP goal). I also understand that there will be obstacles in the form of coding restrictions or other players actively disrupting gameplay 'cause they can'.
If people are laser focused on personal achievements and badges, good for them. If it also an integral part of their character concept, great. If it just happens to be a obsessive compulsive trait of the user and it impacts gameplay at all levels, then make sure you announce your preferences/desire before any action is taken. If your behavior (based on an achievement or badge) impacts my play experience negatively, I will just social engineer you out of my gameplay circles.
Just keep in mind that this could also impact the fluidity of League & Team membership.

I'm in full agreement. If the counter has been deemed necessary as part of Tannim & company's designed penalty for defeat, then I'll use it for testing purposes, but I want to hide it after launch. I don't need to be told each time my worthless ISP breaks my connection. I'll eat the penalty, since no game company seems willing to trust me enough to give me a "This death was my ISP's fault, nullify the penalty" button, but I see no reason to have it shoved in my face with a challenge counter, especially not one that other players can see.

From what I have read here before that counter (and many like it) will be part of an optional challenges system. Nothing directly to do with death penalty since they have said that travel time back to your mission is penalty enough.
I'm going to assume, hope for, and advocate for that these counters are "hidden" by default and if you want to see them on the default UI then you have to explicitly add them to a "tracker" of sort. Considering the number of different challenges they could put together (with many having both personal and team versions) then it would be ridiculous to have them all directly visible by default. It's also one of those things that you shouldn't "saddle" newcomers with.
I’ll ass to the QoL request to have an option to turn off Chsllengr and Achievements notifications.
Otherwise the intent is to have a separate screen you would look at (similar to your badges list) to check on the progress of your current Challenges and Achievements.

Thanks, that’s pretty cool and having an option to turn off progress meters should satisfy people who chase achievements and people who ignore them. :)
