Super groups based on COT Aesthetics.

https://ctreuse109.deviantart.com/ <--this is the artist by the way.

imagine a group where all the special effects are electric. The group name could be RIDE THE LIGHTNING!
every character chooses electric special effects, and at least one ranged lighting tertiary attack.
they are NOT united by costumes but by the aesthetic effects.

Try another group, Blood Moon. This is a water aesthetic colored red for blood. same deal as above, united by the effect, not by costume.
I can only think of a dojo teaching a secret set of powers only they know.

What do you think? This a different anime feel. kinda refreshing to see united effects in action.
It would certainly make PvP teams a bit more interesting.
If a group like one of these was forming with a special effect you liked...would you be tempted to join?

I did something like this in CoX. All the members were of the same alien race with powers drawn from their internal energy, so everyone's powers, while different, were all the same color.

Back in the day Inwas a member of Don’t Whiz on the Electric Fence super group. Part of a huge collection of the Rep at Offenders network of super groups.

I can’t wait to see what players come up with for themed super teams.

I'd much prefer this to the "everyone just wear the same patterned tights" supergroups. I was in a few of these and while it was kinda cool to see everyone in a unified costume, it didn't really feel like I was playing my character anymore. A themed supergroup like the examples you posted would be pretty fun because each member can build their character around the themed particle effect and you'd see a lot more variety and creativity while still giving that same unified vibe.

Maybe on occasion the group could set loose sub-themes along with the particle effect like "today we're running a mech theme, tomorrow we'll run a bank heist theme" so you could even just add minor tech equipment like a blast glove or whatever somewhere on your character if you wanted the character's story to be primarily magic focused. That way your old wizard character won't look so awkward trying to fit in with a strict full-robot supergroup.

Also, maybe this has been discussed elsewhere, but it would be hilarious if you'd have the option to give your robot themed character a pixelated distortion face for a bank heist themed group as if you were trying to fool the security cameras that way.

For Super groups with a uniform, I think a good way to eat your cake and have it too is to have a uniform but allow people to make small changes. Kinda like how the Sailor Guardians don't have the same exact outfit.

Their shoes are all different. Also their colors, obviously.

Yeah I was in an SG that kind of tried the "same basic uniform with different colors" routine. It kind of worked but with CoH's relatively limited color palette it was hard to do with more than say 10 or 12 people before you started running out of good colors.

Maybe since CoT is going to provide more color choices this kind of idea will be more workable.

My City of Heroes group of

My City of Heroes group of friends decided that they all wanted to run a Cold themes gang of supers, so everyone in the group needed to have either a Primary or a Secondary powerset devoted to Ice powers. I chose to be an Ice/Ice Tanker for the group, and Shiroyukihime was born (translation: white snow princess), who eventually went on to be an Ice/Ice/Arctic Tanker who inhaled aggro like a wind tunnel set on high and would deny aggro to other tankers on Tanker Tuesday runs.

They just did it a bit wrong on those. Still good ways to have a themed costume for the SG, but allow your character to keep their identity.

Some were SG alts and not members in that last one, but still shows some variations and how my own OC had a leotard and skirt version. How some males had tights while others baggier pants.

Be like the X-Men. they had the standard outfit used by a lot of the members, but others would add or change up their outfit a bit.

Of course, there were times where the X-Men had outfits you could see linked them, but they were still plenty different between all of them, with some visual cue that tied them together.

Exactly, my super group had

Exactly, my super group had simply two "SG colors" to wear just when we were together. The costumes were completely different and just the colors were the same for all (but each player decided where to put one color or the other, you could be even fully of one color).
Imho that's the best choice, you feel as a team and still very different from each other.

Is there anything to make you think you won't have this?

Why wouldn't you have this?

Even my own examples were used only every so often (well, some members used it for their always costume).

We just had SG colors (changed once or twice during the many years) with a pattern (super group symbol, chest piece would use a certain pattern, legs would be a certain patter, gloves and boots, etc). Basically RPed as "This is a super suit with some protection built in, if you don't have a suit of your own." though also for when the group thought it best to assemble in group colors (usually before a TF).
