The small peeks look good and the only thing I'd have to complain about is the need of something in terms of a filter or graphical effect so that it doesn't look as.. shiny? generic? I dunno what the proper word would be. But we're way past the initial images from when ya'll started working with U4 and everything looks miles better so I can only assume you have something in the works.

That is all handled by the shader. The shiny aesthetic is common at this stage, and will be refined to a more natural look as we further develop the shaders.

Does the character builder have the power customization built into it? I mean, the one we would potentially get access to in the near(ish) future.

'We have done a lot of testing with ragdoll physics and even though it might be too straining on the servers, it cracks me up. I can’t even tell you how I love running full speed and then ragdolling into a building. If it is viable to leave in City of Titans in someway, I would be happy and laughing all the time.'
Wait, does that mean CoT might not have the kind of combat ragdoll physics that we had in the old game? :-(

it means that it's server intensive. If they don't have the server capacity to allow it launch, there's nothing stopping them from upgrading the servers later and then patching it in. which, as I recall, is what CoH did.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
^ Absolutely correct, it happened in Issue 6 (With the release of City of Villains).
But, they actually still had it disabled in certain zones. Zones like Bloody Bay had it off by default, because they wanted to make sure the servers were running as smoothly as possible for events and PVP.
I don't recall COH being very ragdoll-y, but it could be my fading memory...

Graphic Designer
I remember playing a superstrength brute and using haymaker on low level mobs. Not sure how they calculated force based on damage and the like, but it generally made enemies shoot like they'd been shot out of a cannon, ragdolling the whole way.
So yeah, I remember it being pretty ragdoll-y :V
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
I remember when they implemented it, and it changed the whole feel of combat (for the better).
Guess I figured with the progress of technology that this would just be a given, since we had it 12 years ago.

can't blame em the games going too be epic
More than a few of us on the team loved the rag doll effect. It's been a manual toggle for us. When played around the "museum block" the map guy had shoved buildings togther to keep us from going to close to the edge of the map. A few of us figured out how to use the ragdoll effect to sneak past that barrier to get to the other side.

The good old "How did you even get there?" maneuver.
I used to be good at that in COH. I know at least one invisible wall likely existed because of me there. And then there was the time I found a 100% way to get to the underside of Talos Island. That wouldn't be too unusual, except the way to do it was in Peregrine Island. Yup, I managed to get under one zone by doing something in a different one.
So I'm looking forward to getting stuck in weird places once we're allowed to look around.
Yeah there was one of us who did that on our museum map and ended up falling forever causing a server crash.

Will this character creator have power customization?
Or just costumes?
Power customization I believe is one of our goals but I don't know if we'll incorporate it in this iteration. I believe the current goals for this iteration are: body morphology, costume composition, coloration. Anything beyond that I'm uncertain about.
Kaylan is one of our costume people though. I'll pass requests past her and anyone else working on that area.

I've been waiting to see the Character Creator for so long. I hope it's soon. The Character Creators on DCUO and CO have been ticking me off for too long
I accidently ate a bowl of radioactive soup....ok I guess that makes me a Soup-er Hero
Right? I've tried doing stuff with both, and every time I can't spend ten minutes with it before shutting it down, because it somehow manages to offed me that there's so little of what there should be. It's irrational, but I just can't stop myself from hating them a little bit for not being even close to CoH in terms of what they can manage.
On the other hand, everything we've seen from CoT thus far has been really interesting, and fits my hankering for full customization, which is something no other game has accomplished.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Unfortunately I never had the chance to play COH since I've only been on the internet since 2014, The more I've heard about it the more I wish I could have played it. What makes me upset is that the Devs from DCUO don't care at all about improving the game but only about how much money they can take from us. If DCUO had at least the graphics quality of their trailers it would be so much better then what they have now. CO visually looks more appealing with it's Comic Book look, however the combat system there is worse then DCUO's (and that's saying something) While I can't honestly say I Haven't enjoyed playing either games, I've been unable to fully immerse myself in the games. With COT I hope to be able to immerse myself in an amazing urban world where I can create the superhero's of my imagination to almost exactly how I want them.
I accidently ate a bowl of radioactive soup....ok I guess that makes me a Soup-er Hero
In my mind the character creator in a superhero game needs to be freaking ROBUST. Superhero universes call for all sorts of eclectic mixes. You have werewolves, you have magicians, you have the classic skintight spandex, and the long trench coat Dick Tracy look. Even a robed Gandalf type here and there. Not to mention all sorts of nutty body shapes and faces.
So many character creators have been such let downs. And the inability to customize even the color of my powers has bothered me more than I expected. I’m pumped for CoT’s offering!
I’ve had similar experiences with DCUO and CO. I just can’t get immersed in them. They’re missing something fundamental that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Non-humanoid PCs are on our wish list. They may not appear on our first iteration but as long as they are feasible and we have the resources to produce them you can be assured they are likely to appear as soon as we can do them.

If we can get non-humanoid PCs could we theoretically get a shape shifting powerset? So we can emulate heroes like Beast Boy, and Chameleon Boy.
Though I'm not sure how it would work as a Powerset... Maybe it's better as just aesthetics for powers? I dunno.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
Shapeshift would be nice but I can immediately thing of technical problems - mostly bandwidth issues. If there was a fixed range of forms it might be possible without too many problems. Defining that range would be the real trick.
-----------
Senior Developer/Project Manager/Co-Founder... and then some.
I'm ok if Shapshifting isn't possible for COT, but what about elastic abilities?
I accidently ate a bowl of radioactive soup....ok I guess that makes me a Soup-er Hero
In the old game, quite a few people used costume slots to implement a shape-shifting character. I hope/assume we'll be able to do the same.
Spurn all ye kindle.
Certainly for mild shape-shifting. To have a buffed up form or such. But to be able to go full Beast Boy would be another thing.
Having a flight aesthetic where you turn into a bird, bat, or pterodactyl or something would be awesome.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
Shape shifting is possible, but in limited form.
Elastic abilities less so because of issues of messing with bones and costume pieces and making everything work in conjunction.

Oh Well, I had a feeling it wouldn't happen, but I'll still hope it might happen someday after COT is established and prospering.
I accidently ate a bowl of radioactive soup....ok I guess that makes me a Soup-er Hero
If the technology gets a LOT better then, yeah, we might go for it. Trying to get the full gamut of comic book powers would definitely be a desirable thing in "super hero" game.
-----------
Senior Developer/Project Manager/Co-Founder... and then some.
Could stretching be done by just having effects that cover various limbs? So it'd essentially be like a fist on the end of a costume arm colored trail.
Not proper stretching but possibly giving the illusion of it.
"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to."
I mean COH had shape shifting with the warshade and peacebringer forms. I would think COT could at least do something similar down the road in terms of shape shifting.

-----------
Graphic Designer
'Shapeshifting' between anthropomorphic/humanoid forms could be done via Costume switch. Kheldians from CoH are not a good example for CoT, because those forms were fixed and you might notice that CoH NEVER did anything like it again.
Be Well!
Fireheart
They did however look into the idea again though (before ultimately scrapping it as too complex).
At least some of the files existed for the Primalist archetype, which was a Kheldian-esque shapeshifter AT.
Or, the point could be to keep in memory some animal body costume parts, make them unvisible until the power is cast.
At least, it could work but only for a "Humanoid" form...
I think this is the real problem there. Changing the body skeleton and loading a costume, all during playing. (I f you need a translation, don't ask me :D My sentences don't seems to be correct :D)

Towards the end, the old game allowed change of body type when switching costumes, so for example my mild-mannered professor with a tiny male body could use costume change to switch to his huge body type werewolf.

I also won a costume contest for the mecha. :P
Yeah, couldn't aesthetic decoupling make that work? Like have a character who can range attacks with Martial Arts, and use aesthetic decoupling to make is SEEM that the character's appendages are stretching. You could do the same as a travel power but instead of a grappling gun it's just their arm.

Okay. Let's add some clarity.
First, we were going to delay the update, to show off the costume creator.
Then we discovered we could put together a teaser of the costume creator.
So we did the scheduled update, and included the teaser.
Then we skip a week, because updates are every two weeks, and spend that time editing.
Then we do a update next week, on the normal schedule.
Make sense?
We'll talk more about the UI after we show everything off.
