Will it be possible to work on a character's face, build, etc. offline and then import the result into the character creator?

Aren't we expecting the Character Creator to be a stand-alone app? I know we're expecting at least as much functionality as the CoH CC. That allowed us to create Costume and Power Customization files that could be shared and loaded. There were also costuming experts in the community who could practically read a screenshot and duplicate a costume on the fly.
Still, save and load files is an easier route to costumes.

I went looking around the kickstarter to find where it was mentioned that the character creator, known as the Avatar Builder for this game, will be standalone application.
I know there is something somewhere that says it will be delivered prior to the game's release so we can have our characters designed prior to the opening gun. But I couldn't find that. What I did find was this discussion in update #14 of how the Avatar Builder will be a standalone app. And for this topic, that should be good enough.
[hr]I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
Good enough? For you, perhaps. But I would like my question answered, thank you.

Enabling a costume to be used based on a phone app may or may not be the same thing as allowing face and body sculpting in a UE4 product to be saved and imported to the in-game character creator. That's why I'm asking - I prefer to hear an answer from the devs as opposed to assuming anything, especially when that is based upon an older description of a KS goal. Things have obviously changed somewhat since then, and I have reasons to inquire about importing a body (not costume) from a UE4 product into the game.

To make a standalone app, you would in effect need the game itself, it's that tightly integrated. Now, if you're asking if you can make the costume off-line for import afterwards, that is a possibility we're still exploring.

Then perhaps you didn't read it. Which I have to take partial blame for, since I linked to an entire page with a zillion other things on it. Let me quote the pertinent part for you here:
But that was written years ago.
Now that the Doctor Tyche has responded here in 2017, I would think anything he says today would trump what was said back then. (although it was part of the kickstarter, so some people who contributed may feel entitled to get what they paid for)

Welcome to the joys of the engine change. UE4 changed the very way we could approach the avatar builder, making it far more capable. Problem then became that so many other systems were finished before the character was.

Doc,
Have you had a chance to experience the FFXIV benchmarks?
As near as I can figure, they were made with the actual game engine, but without all the networking, chat, and multiplayer integration features. As the professional among us, I'm sure you could take one look at it and see if it is something CoT could emulate.

No I had not.... *goes to check it out*

Going to run this past the others. Certainly doable technology wise, not certain time-wise.

Well hey, if it works, then it works. It'll be a big help to a lot of people going "Can I run the game?" which I know has prevented my boyfriend from loading up games before, since he ahd no way to really check.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
Yeah, I think it would pay for itself in terms of marketing and drumming up hype. Its not just an Avatar Builder and measure of system performance, its the equivalent of a superbowl commercial.
Make it a free download for all the world to build their own characters in it while we wait for MWM to put final touches in the game for release. When it plays it introduces the world, maybe hints at some story elements, shows some iconic characters, some key villain groups, and most importantly, Titan City; and throughout it all you see your personally designed character take a starring role.
If something like this is sent out early, all the journalists will run it, all the Youtube celebrities will run it and everyone will be saying how much they can't wait to play the game. You can't pay for that kind of advertising.

Interesting. I ran that bench on my somewhat aged Alienware laptop, and got 8066, albeit at a 1280x720 resolution.
I do like the idea of some sort of thing like that, if it's even reasonably doable without taking away from other things. Having a teaser of an even limited character creator so that people can see how they would look could be a real attraction to some people and might get a definite buzz going, because some of the competitors won't look nearly so nice, if some of the vids I've seen are any indication.

Could the avatar creator include a test area where builds can be tested against test dummies? Could it include testing at various levels? Personally I'd like to have an idea how a build plays near end game before I invest all the effort in getting there. Or better yet, could a/the training zone be included? I bet that would spawn even more youtube videos. Everyone loves scope creep, right?
"THE TITANS ARE COMING! THE TITANS ARE COMING!"
That's exactly what I want. I need to build my Titans! (sigh) COT can't get here soon enough. (Paces the floor at super speed)
I accidently ate a bowl of radioactive soup....ok I guess that makes me a Soup-er Hero
I got a scores of:
1280x720 DX11 Laptop (High) : 16839
1600x900 DX11 MAXIMUM: 12159
Wow - I want your computer. :)

I got 680 on 1280x720 DX9 (laptop) before I gave up waiting for it to load and put it out of its misery.

Now to be fair, my laptop is a gaming laptop with an Nvidia 980m card inside it, but I believe that it beats my desktop.....
Have it show different lighting as well - dark and stormy, bright sunlight, maybe some ritual your character has to stop before it causes chaos in town. These are important because letting the player see their character in different lighting effects is a big part ofwhat can make a character look good; I remember when designing my character in Mass Effect 1 I somehow managed to make her cheeks concave and eyes sunken, a fact I didn't realize until the lighting was such that it showed the shadows playing across her face. That of course meant I had to go back and redo her face entirely, and that's just not fun.
While I like the idea, I don't think it's feasible to include it in the avatar builder itself - it'd probably have to wait until the game proper came out. But at that point, putting in a test zone would be very cool.
