You're not super...till you put on The Cape

Last Friday, it was El Santo’s 99th Birthday. El Santo was a heck of a guy, star of Stage, Screen, and the Squared Circle. Some Americans might know him from his movies - El Santo and the Vampire Women was MST3Ked as Sampson vs the Vampire Women.

That morning, I challenged our costume makers to make El Santo with our techniques. It was done by… well, the next day. It was a simple costume, but a heck of a speed test, showing off our materials, our faces, our skin, our shorts-over-tights, and our first face mask. Not to mention a new environment.

Now… there was a feature I was hoping everyone would notice. And it wasn’t the skin.

It was the cape.

The bounding areas are still a little rough - working on it. But… well, I think you’ll like the results. People always wanted more capes. More, and more and… well, you’ve got it now. Your Warrior will have the Ultimate in tassels, once we hammer collision out on the wrists and thighs. This is a raw demo - we’re working on how the cloth moves, making it more heroic, before we finalize the collision volumes - right now, it clips, but that’s a temporary condition.

We have successfully put 101 cape-wearers in a single map, by the way, and it worked fine. We call it the Hami-Test.

In other news, people didn’t notice El Santo’s cape. You know what they did notice? El Santo’s skin.

The light in the new area was a bit too bright - mid-august bright, the kind that makes a bald man blinding. And it made our test skin a little plastic-looking.

We’ve been working on the skin, you see. It’s not as easy as it looks - there’s going to be a whole layer of detail over what you see, to pick out muscles and shadows.

2:

And we’re testing some different processes, and we’ll see which one wins. Which one do you think looks the best?

Fair warning - at least two of them are exactly the same under different light.

We’re getting closer to the character creator. We need to get hair working properly - but that cape is one of the first steps to that hair we promised you. We need the patcher - we’ve shown you that, got to keep you up to date. We need the stage, and the slider controls. We need those sliders working with the clothes. It’s all hard work - but it’s getting closer and closer to being done.

And remember - if you want good tunes, The Cape Radio is still on the air.

They’ve got your back.

This update brought to you by Team Gambi, and specifically the subsection of it involving Hair, Full Dresses, Capes, and Trampolines. Also swinglines, oddly enough.
