Setting: Borrowed themes from... The Terminator + Quantum Leap.
It's the year 2210, and women only make up 8% of the population.
And, the babies that they do have are almost all male. Humanity might not make it in the next generation.
You discover from a childhood friend, who is also a scientist (which 80% of this generation were forced to become),
that the human DNA was manipulated an unknown number of generations ago.
"How can we find out When?", you ask out loud. Your scientist friend looks at you with a grin on his face. "Well, don't say anything to anyone, but that once renowned scientist has been working on time travel for most of his adult life, but has not been able to send a person back yet." After hearing that, you say,
"Why share that then, if its no good, dummy"! He responds, "I never said it was no good, just that you can't go back like you thought".
A long discussion ensues, and you walk away learning that you can go back a generation, possibly more, but only if the Host has a very similar Brain to yours that your subconscious can reside in. You hypothesise that your Ascendance are most likely to share your DNA traits, but feel troubled that changing how they think or perceive things might change the past, altering the chance that you never come into existence.
