Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

With what we know now, What will your first character be?

Somethings like Masterminds will not be released at launch.

this is for your first character build. It may be just a test toon to feel out the game, with your main coming up later.
The point is how will you build that very first hero/villain?

Mine will be based on the Brute: "The Gladiator" with the "Rage" tertiary power.
I have no idea with the individual looks/animations...the power or weapon will be whatever looks cool (but it won't be claws...).
****** I just love jumping into a crowd of foes with my damage shield on and taking them all out!

So that's me. Lets say this is Beta and we're all in on first day. "Titaneers Assemble!"
we have one Gladiator....who's next?

I still have not been told

I still have not been told whether or not there will be nunchaku at launch.
So it may or may not be Paladin.

If nunchaku are not available but I still have hope that one day they will be
then my first character will be something different
I'll save Paladin for when the nunchaku do show up.
I'll probably go with a basic super strong bulletproof guy who can fly
not too inspiring but simple and good for testing things out
Once I get more of a feel for the game I can do something more interesting.

If nunchaku are not available and I've been told go @#$% yourself we're just not doing that
then maybe I'll just do a non nunchaku version of Paladin
like I've done so many times before
and resign myself to never being truly happy in an MMO

Or maybe I'll decide that I'm just getting too old and too frustrated for this
and I need to stop doing stuff that distracts me from working on my own game.
That's not entirely out of the question.

Depends entirely on the powers and costume options available. I might re-roll an old character I had in previous PC or Tabletop games, or I might try something new. Still WAY too early for me say without more precise information about what we will have available to us at launch.

I'm not sure if they'll be available at launch, but I'm pretty excited about The executor (controller/ranged) and The striker (melee/manipulation). Anything that comes close to a stalker is going to make me happy. I loved my stalker :)

White Peregrine, of course. powersets will depend on what is actually available at launch and which fits his concept the best. after I get my initial wanderlust done I will make the rest of my primary's (Citenik, Lionseye, St. Aegis and Ms. Majestic). :)

I consider Beta to be prelaunch
But it really doesn't matter

the real question is:
Are they EVER going to have nunchaku?
For me a lot hangs on that.
And I'm old, I can't wait forever.
Especially when I start having to renew a subscription every year.

Plus I do have this game of my own to work on.
I know I'm wasting my time here, and that's fine.
I'm having fun.
But is it ever going to be the kind of fun I'm looking for?
And if not.... Why bother?

Not saying I won't play, just I might not.
Definately won't play as often if there aren't nunchaku.
A lot depends on my mood
And at some point I'll be certainly in the mood to play.
But if I don't find myself in the mood often enough, why keep paying?

Too much depends on what powersets are available. Goldenrod (a Guardian) should have an Assault secondary, but I could make do with a few melee Tertiaries until the Vindicator is available. Féerique may be done as a Ringleader or an Engineer, but Tink will likely make do with only Tertiary pet powers once those are available. The Falcon and [font=lucida bright]AIko[/font] will likely be quite doable at launch.... Others will probably wait.

I'm with the others who are

I'm with the others who are going to wait for the game to launch. I can't really mentally commit myself to a toon that might not be a good fit for City of Titans, and I really don't know what will be a good fit until I get a chance to start playing around with the costume maker and look at the power set options. I know some of those options have probably been discussed elsewhere, but I don't usually pop into those sections of these forums. I'm fine to wait and check out what we have when we have it.

That said, I know that I will probably make up a character idea based on what options we do have, probably based more on the costume maker than the power sets. If I see a weird face, hat, weapon, or icon to where on my chest that I haven't seen in other games, I might try to imagine what kind of hero would wear those. That will likely be my first toon in City of Titans.

That is how I ended up making Little Lady Sad-Face in Champions Online, who was supposed to just be a goof-around toon for a day or two and then deleted. Making a character based on the sad face available for a chest symbol seemed like a fun challenge. Once completed and played a bit, though, I didn't stop being amused with myself over the idea of a superhero with gloom powers who fights crime not because of an inherent desire for justice, but because it is better than sitting at home crying on the couch. She's one of my favorites. I hope to make up weird toons like that, but I'd rather not rush the inspiration.

Well, if we get a character

Well, if we get a character creator prior to launch, and if I am allowed to download it, then I will play around with the various options in the character creator until I discover the character that is waiting for me.

Or, if I must, I'll discover that character the first day of gameplay. Either way, the character is already buried deep in my subconscious. All I need are the tools necessary to meet them.

Until I have the tools, I have no way to learn who they are!

I had a Illusion/Forcefield controller who could do amazing things. I would prefer to remake my Robot/Forcefield mastermind but I guess they won't have that available at launch. So I guess my Controller would be my first one as close to his abilities as possible.

Obviously if you're not in the "mood" to play a game there's no reason to bother with it.

All I'll say is that when I started playing CoH I had several characters with character concepts which exceeded the game's capabilities. For example I had one who I envisioned would have flapping wings and a moving tail. Neither of those things existed when CoH first launched and there was never any guarantee those things would ever exist in the game. Still I played on as best I could and had plenty of fun regardless.

Now I was lucky in that over the years the game finally gave us actual flapping wings and moving tails to play with. I'm simply glad I didn't let the initial lack of those things stop me from playing those characters from the very beginning.

Sure you might be waiting for nunchaku and maybe you've even been waiting decades for that. But that's not a real reason to avoid what might otherwise be a pretty good game regardless.

Based on the current Class

Based on the current Class/Spec chart that's slated for release, I'd be able to make NNekoNNin right off the bat, provided there's a nice scaly texture for his armor. I could also get away with making LLabanTTselel with his alt class/spec, though some of his costumes may be harder to replicate than others. LLabanTTselel would- canonically speaking, given his presence in CoX- be the most favorable of the two to play as, but I can imagine him sending out his fellow champion to take care of Titan City while he's wrapping up business on Primal/Praetorian Earth. (or, OOC'ly, while I wait for his primary class/spec to be released)

Actually for me it could be. Unless I get some assurance that the wait might finally be over one day.
In short without some confirmation from the devs that there eventually will be nunchaku (even if not at launch) I am currently teetering on the bring of just giving up. And if they tell me that its too much trouble and they have no plans to do it ever then I'm definitely gone.

...seems a bit much but it would be your choice. even if they came out said flat out "no" I would recommend still hanging about...there is more to a game than nunchaku. would you be able to faithfully replicate your character? nope...but that doesn't mean you couldn't explore a new path with him... :)

besides...if you left us...who would beat the Nunchaku drum!?

for decades.

Definitely one of the 3 character profiles I'm working with. I'm thinking Adaptek or InfiKnight. Depends on just how blaster-y my choices are. I've begun to favor the idea of a high defensed blaster- but the Gunner won't be ready at launch. So really for me my first character will probably be entirely theme built- which may mean it'll flop out of the tutorial or it could be rockin'. I know in CO and CoX both o fmy first characters were also my most powerful at the end of my run. I build to my mood then flesh the character out of that with their exploits as I play.

Paladin, there is an angle you might play with the devs to get your nun-chucks.
start a thread asking for martial arts weapons, specifically those used in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
1) you have a tie into a major comic.
2) Martial arts will be there for launch.
3) and by focusing on 4 staple weapons of the genre, your aren't coming across as a lone voice in the wilderness.

First character will be a Bulwark, no question. Super Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, and a fiery projectile to boot should tertiary sets allow. Bruiser, Ruggedness and maybe Battle Leader. This is pretty much what it will be, lest something changes that. I still play around with Mids to make a kind of build like this when I can.

After that, well... one of them will be a Gladiator probably. I want to give the Gunner a try, and maybe a pet class when it is released.

I'll try to make my namesake. It'll probably be a while before I nail down something I really enjoy, so I'll likely remake him/her/it a number of times. The first thing I'm going to try is a Burning/whatever Partisan, and hope that sticks. I'm really interested to see what the supports sets are going to be like, and how control is implemented. If control is as solid and powerful as in CoX, Arcaten might even end up a Director.

Well, probably my old CoH

Well, probably my old CoH main. Aegis Rose, Forcefields/Energy defender. If there's some kind of defense buffing powerset that can be themed as energy constructs and some way to shoot pure magical energy at someone, she should fit in nicely. I believe this is the Guardian -> Sentinel setup.

She started to get around after CoH ended, she's saved the world in Fire Emblem Awakening, Dragonball Xenoverse, and moved into The Sims 3, so I can't really see why I wouldn't want to remake her here. Actually, having CoH die and leaving my characters orphaned kind of let me use them all over the place now. It's handy to have a stable of premade characters to use in games. And Rose here is my go to default character.

What they are trying to tell you that it will either be made at launch or sometime later, but they aren't sure themselves which one it is. Pre production ended only months ago, and they are only now making the character creation. Be patient.

When CoH started, my first

When CoH started, my first character was a blaster, who only got to level 7 before I got tired of her, so created a tanker. She got to her early 20s before I realized she wasn't really melee but controller, deliberately limited in DPS and even moreso in endurance. I could do little other than have all defensive toggles on and do an AOE womp once in awhile. Soloing took forever and was intensely boring, so I grouped, and that was more fun but taunting instead of doing real work wasn't my cup of tea.

Then I tried a scrapper and never looked back. No stupid backstabbing rogue or monk type this. No, this was some serious DPS, where you stayed alive by rapidly slaying things rather than toughing it out.

And the scrapperlock with combat-allowed /follow, combat jumping, tab, and queued attacks, wow.

So, whatever is closest to that. To be quite honest, I'm looking also a little down the road at the theoretical and post-release damage/damage builds, or whatever it's called, as opposed to damage/mitigation. Even higher DPS would be awesome, even at the cost of more squishiness. (This assumes the DPS stacks up somehow, and aren't just alternate one-at-a-time powers for minimal net DPS gain over dam/mitigation.)

My original CoH main was a

My original CoH main was a Fire/Rad Controller. I had great fun with her and continued to play her fairly regularly for the entire run of CoH. Despite all that the powerset combination was never quite 100% exactly what I had in mind for the overall character concept.

I wanted the Fire Control part, but to be honest I never quite liked being locked into having to select a Support secondary. What I really wanted was something closer to being a "Controller/Ranged" instead of a "Controller/Debuffer". When Dominators came along in CoV I was able to roll a Fire/Fiery Dominator, but it still wasn't quite what I wanted because the Assault secondary was still too melee and/or PBAoE oriented. Also the Dominator was never going to replace my original main for all sorts of reasons (including it being a villain and lacking the early badges).

So when I saw that CoT was going to offer a [url=http://cityoftitans.com/forum/updated-classification-and-specification-chart]Control/Ranged[/url] combination (in the Commander:Executor) I was thrilled. Basically I'm hoping this will provide for the Mezzes and Ranged Attacks I always really wanted in my original CoH main. I'll probably roll a test Commander:Executor during the beta to compare it to the Commander:Director (a.k.a. CoH Controller) just to make sure I really like it before the game launches for real.

Blapper was worse than scrapper -- this should be better, if squishier.

This assumes the /DAM secondary either amplifies or adds additional high dps attacks that can be used in place of lower dps attacks from the primary in the rotation.

Plus bindable /follow usable in combat.

ETA: Such is the nature of superheroes, you are supposed to be more powerful than singletons, unlike other games where you should gang up on them. So the groups you attack are larger, and a squishy melee who survives not by tuffing it out but rather by killing opponents quickly (as long as too many don't gang up at once) is a perfectly viable class concept.

This may mean abandoning or mitigating what passes for endurance or mana -- no longer is that part of gameplay (why was it ever, now that I think about it.) The standard should be high dps, not an artificial tuckered out state, and the exciting bursty and frontload dps come about some other way (several other ways in CoH -- temp powers, various amps to pop, popping reds and yellows and purples, etc.)

I understand they are experimenting with this.

The game play function on the left side, Offense, and the top row of gameplay functions of Offense are not intended to indicate there is indeed a Specification for that type. Which is why the combination of say, Melee Offense, Melee Offense is crossed through (with a dotted line).

There is no 'damage / damage' combination at this state, nor even in the 'put it on the white board' planning stages.

I really miss the play style

I really miss the play style of controllers and have not been able to find a game since that is able to come close to the feeling of playing one.
I will most likely be rolling a commander and I'm not sure about the sub type yet!

Ok, thanks. I thought it was reserved for future use kind of thing. So what is Striker then? What is OFF/MIT as a secondary? Ranged analog is blaster, but that doesn't say much. A build up power and a blowback?

I really don't like that part of the chart as it has led to this question multiple times, but there are two types of Manipulations here. Offensive Manipulation and Mitigation Manipulation. Offensive Manipulation is like the old Blaster Secondary Power Sets. Mitigation Manipulation closest analogue is Stalker defensive secondary sets, or more specifically Ninjitsu in how it utilized some control aspects within the defensive powers. Ours does not use Hide powers but will have controls and / or debuffs to work in conjunction with protection powers.

The Striker Specification is Melee Offense / Mitigiation Manipulation.
Hunters are Ranged Offense / Offensive Manipulation.

Cavalier will be Melee/Def

Cavalier will be Melee/Def with Rage mastery. Animations, waiting for what the game has to nail that down.

What he said is what I think. I believe I won't know entirely what Character I will do until launch, or at least till I see a good preview of the character customization.
