Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

If Inventions hadn't come out

If Inventions hadn't come out, I never would have come BACK to City of Heroes.

And I think that's true for a lot. You hear people talk of wanting an easy game with no work character builds, but when CoH had that, it was losing people (only made faster by other choices they made).

Most people want more than just beat up character. :p Getting the gear you want (in CoH that was IOs) is like another part of the game. Now how hard or easy that should be is of course hard to determine.

that said, Blade & Soul is coming to NA finally, so going to be playing that SOON!

I don't think the problem is

I don't think the problem is with getting crafting resources, the problem is having situations where you have to verbally quibble over resources - it just leads to making PUGs unpleasant for many people. CoX never had that problem, even when IOs came in.

i.e. when ppl say "CoX was great because no loot", that's not what people mean just literally like that, and CoX always had "loot" of some kind (in terms of a reward feed); it's more "no loot in the way that people can argue over and cause friction".

It was always just the paradigm MMOs in general inherited from the fantasy genre, of "go into dungeon, find chest at end, divide the loot" - the "divide the loot" bit was never appropriate for CoX anyway, which is why they never had it. You just pick up whatever you randomly pick up, and that wasn't changed when IOs came in.

That's the point really - not having that potential argument point, pissed-offness possibility, etc. No system in any other MMOs makes people happy - whether it's Need/Greed (nobody ever sticks to it, so everyone greeds in the end), letting the leader divide up, etc. It's ALWAYS a bone of contention, and MMOs are better off without it.

However, then there's the other problem of RNG, complaints about RNG, etc. :)

Actually, Brand X, the only

Actually, Brand X, the only reason I cam back for Inventions wasn't because of complicated build decisions or even really the Invention System itself (sets, etc.). The only reason I came back for Issue 9 when Inventions came out was because with Inventions I could get back to playing that the power levels that the Global Defense Nerf AND Enhancement Dysfunction had STOLEN FROM ME without recompense or seemingly remorse. With Invention Sets, I could get back to playing NO GET HITSU!! ... which I couldn't do in Issues 6-8 (a two year span).

During that time, I played World of Warcraft instead, and was quite happy.

Such as one point a team that I was in had a stupid number of IO's drop during the course over the day.

I got several Pacing Of the Turtle that day.

And ONLY that...

Leading teams was easy and fun to do, so you did it, you went through the hassle of whispering people who were available, checking them out, letting them check you out, forming a team that you felt would be capable and friendly together. (This, as opposed to the kinds of crappy UIs in most MMOs that seem to go out of their way to make forming teams difficult, or automate the process so there's no human contact involved in actually forming a team.)

+1.

I remember the 1st time i discovered the Champions Online team finder and was baffled that with that sort of superior search, there still wasnt much teaming. :P

The Search should be very simple and if possible in the same window (maybe a diff. tab), as the Online Players listing, not separate and never really used by most.

Over this weekend, I decided

Over this weekend, I decided to try Pirate 101 for free. It's so much fun to play, even if it is a game oriented towards kids (like Wizard 101, same company) that I've already bought a subscription for a full year.

If anyone else would like an Invite Code to Pirate 101, simply send me a PM and I'll generate a code for you to create an account with.

Pirate 101 has interesting lessons that City of Titans would be well advised to investigate ... starting with their pricing and monetization schemes (attention: Segev). Also, the "puppet show" cutsecenes are just beyond epic awesome and there are two of them that you can get to (not including character creation) just within the free to play content.

Some might have noticed that I haven't been posting as much and haven't yet tried my hand at RP like I had talked about. Splatoon is a major reason why. It's very fun and very addicting. That's not only because it's so unique---for me, teaming up with other players in online matches reminds me of how easy and casual teaming up was in CoX.

In a regular online Turf War, teams are assembled randomly, and communication between players is very limited. You just indicate that you want to play Turf War, then you get lumped in with a mixed bag of players to make a mess for 3 minutes. When you're done having fun, you can drop off to go do your own thing. It's very casual and easy to get into.

It was the same situation in CoX. A simple "Level 23 Defender lft" could often get you into a pick-up group. It didn't usually matter what the team was doing or who you were teamed up with; you were just looking for a party (pun intended). So you'd ride along, have a blast, then wave goodbye when you wanted to take a break. There were no barriers to entry, and it was one of the most alluring and engaging aspects of the game.

I very much hope that City of Titans captures this magic of fun and casual pick-up groups. That magic is an essential part of what I loved about CoX. While game design is a large part of this, I'd say the player community itself was also responsible for the phenomenon, and I'm confident that we'll work together to foster a common sense of team spirit.

I've actually been playing

I've actually been playing Heroes of the Storm lately with my girlfriend and a close friend. My MOBA of choice is League of Legends but my friend got his account banned for two weeks so we thought we would try out Heroes and it's not that bad. Something different to help make time go by :)

I am playing a few mmo's

I am playing a few mmo's casually at the moment.

1. CO been playing this game casually since its beta. I bought the life time subscription and have enjoyed the game for what it is. I enjoy the combat more then i did in CoH. I also think the hero customization is better then CoH. This being said the solo centric gameplay really makes one miss the group play of CoH and the scaling dependent on size of group that CoH had. CO has spoiled me due to the freeform builds which make a lot of concepts become reality. I do not think have ever had as many alts in an mmo as i have with CO.

2. Everquest Landmark is still in early beta but have been playing it off and on since early alpha. Totally destructible environment and being able to build practically anything to a high level of detail is amazing. I am on the fence with the combat system of this it could become great or quite mediocre...time will tell.

3. DDO i still pop into this game now and then and start up a new toon or explore new content with existing toons.

4. Star Citizen- Again another game in alpha with only the fighter module released has been entertaining.

other games not related to mmos that i currently play are Galactic Civilizations III, Atilla Total War, Mount and Blade Warband.

Honestly, I've been thinking

Honestly, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Why can't I fall for another game like I did for CoH. Everything else seems like a drag to play.

I still keep in touch with 3 other people that I played COH with, but we have never been able to get back on the same page for any 1 game.

I think the main downfall in all of the games I have tried is the lack of new powers. I don't just want to upgrade punch with Punch level 2. I want a new fireball to throw at someone.

The key to the success and replay of COH for me was every 2nd level getting a new power and the diversity of game play that came with this.

Since the closing of COH I have tried:

WoW - Same power, higher level syndrome. Plus Guilds are such a work, I never found helpful people.

LOTRO - I played this before and after FTP. I liked but it was such a grind to play free.

Fallen Earth - too loot heavy, my favorite part of COH was avoiding loot as much as possible. I don't like being rewarded for being lucky. Give me a standard loot at the end of a missions string anyday.

DCUO - I've never been able to get into it like COH. Street sweeping was boring in COH! and that is the whole game here. Sure there are a couple of missions, but for every 1 mission there are 10 street sweepers. Blah!

Champions - Same thing as above.

SWTOR - I actually enjoyed playing a bounty hunter, with morals. The Jedi classes were odd, I didn't enjoy them very much. Still same thing, street sweeping, on every planet.

GW2 - Another game of almost completely street sweeping. I got a a couple of 80's but the upgrading to the same powers over and over is boring. Beautiful game.

Neverwinter - I like, but no one is playing. Still lots of street sweeping, but the user created content is fun. I'm not a huge fan of all the power ups and crap that the store constantly pushes, but that's the downside of FTP.

STO - Couldn't get the 3D battles in the ship. Pretty big part of the game to not be able to do worth of crap. Never put much time into it because I found it frustrating.

Firefall\Global Agenda\Defiance\Tribes Ascend- Fun for a couple of hours, but they don't draw me back.

Wildstar - played the Beta and enjoyed it, but never bought the game. Might go back now that it is FTP. Still... street sweeping ugg.

ArcheAge - Played for a weekend, got banned for something I didn't do and never went back. I honestly liked the idea of allowing only so much energy for crafting, but it became painful and soooo much crafting was needed.

Elite Dangerous - Being that I couldn't do STO 3D space why I thought I could do this is beyond me. I used to play a game called Space Merchant daily and loved the hell out of the battle/trading online game. I've spent almost 3 hours in the tutorial and still can't fly the stupid ship. Trying to get a grip on the controller vs keyboard, the PC Gamer in me hates that I have to play the game with a controller.

I might give ESO a shot as I've always enjoyed the single player games.

What I want in an MMO?

1. Not being forced to Street Sweep!

2. A variety of in game mission maps. Missions, missions and more missions. Crap I used to just do paper missions for days on end.

3. Easy to get into, no level restrictions for missions with friends.

4. Not loot based, I don't want to be messing around with loot all of the time, give me useful things that I don't have to store or micro manage.

5. POWERS!!! I want new powers every few levels. I want to be able to plan out a character build a tweek it in my head for a months before reaching the cap.

6. Costumes and options! I had multiple concept toons, that I rarely played but just had to design. I would be driving on my way to work and get an idea or concept for a character. This works great in a superhero MMO.

Even though I haven't tried some of the games you did, just from reactions i've seen from other players (yea yea.. from Youtube mostly), you're reactions closely reflect my own.

Like a few people here, my very 1st MMO was City of Heroes, so perhaps I was just spoiled to start with. ;)

This is a point of view here, but for Elite Dangerous, I personally found it a lot easier to play with a £20 joystick (even though I ended up in the end going for a Saitek X52 HOTAS setup) over a controller or keyboard and mouse.

If you read the forums, the general point of view in terms of "recommended setup" goes HOTAS joystick > Normal Joystick > Gamepad > keyboard and mouse.

But it does all depend as to what you are used to. Me? I cannot really play any form of flight sim style game with a keyboard and mouse... for me, even a controller is better. But I know of a few Elite Dangerous players are a *awesome* keyboard and mouse players... who take on challenges that I wouldn't think of doing.

Then again, even with a controller I would still use VoiceAttack to help issue out commands for my ships commander... at least then I don't have to take my hands off the controller to do other things. Real shame that it isn't available for the Xbox One (yet), but the voice packs for voice attack are worth buying, even if its just Brian Blessed and Tom Baker (and Norman Lovett and Paul Darrow)[1]
