What if Mutants Were Real? Alternate history.

This video got me to thinking about C.O.T and how "supers" according to lore are being viewed sorta similar to (former)Powers tv show.

All 4 Mutants

Evolution is key. And mutants are key.

So, mutants would be

So, mutants would be worshiped as gods and/or put on the highest echelons of society? I could imagine a similar scenario. Of course, as CoT has regular citizens armed with the means to stand against tougher opponents, (take CAP, for example) it's likely that supers wouldn't be dominating all of society. More than likely, they will be regarded as celebrities for their natural power, and then either celebrated or feared depending on what they do with all that power. But hey, I applaud you for looking into how these scenarios with supers could play out IRL; it makes sense that supers would wind up being revered, on way or another.

One element the Alternate

One element the Alternate History didn't address is when the Mutants/Supers appear. They go with the idea that there always were supers. CoT has the idea that there were supers in the past but they declined till a new upswelling of powers started about WWII till the time of the game. The low point was during the Burning times and the witch hunts.

Marvel has Mutants appearing during WWII as well. That doesn't add into the Alternate History either.

If mutants did start appearing today I would bet a more Marvel reaction. If Mutants been always about I do see some being worshiped as gods... Hell look at the Greek Gods basically what AH talked about right there.

I figure the question of

I figure the question of "would real life mutants be worshiped as gods or shunned as circus freaks" would depend on how many of them were out there and how powerful they were. If there was only like one in every 100 million and/or all they could typically do were vaguely unusual things like hold their breath underwater for 10 minutes then nobody's going to be worshiping any of them. But if mutants made up at least 5% or 10% of the total population and most of those were significantly more capable than average humans or maybe there's still only a handful but they were truly godlike (i.e. Magneto level ability) then I could see them being taken for gods at ANY point in history (either 10,000 years ago or today).

Like with everything else there would have to be a "tipping point" where all the factors would have to be right before mutants could take over much less be openly acknowledged by normal humans. Anything below that threshold and mutants would have to remain in the shadows and be considered freaks/fairy tales by society.

Just look at the stories of demigods. They often had some inherent talent that made them incredible warriors (and occasionally another gift, such as Heracles' strength) And then they'd have a bunch of tools granted to them by their forebears to see their destiny through, or made on their own.

You know who else is an A++ warrior that relies on tools and tactics? Batman. And a lot of Marvel's mutants are a lot more powerful than Batman.

Frankly, a lot of mutants are far superior to the old demigod stories. Magneto is one of the better examples, as is Juggernaut, Mystique, and Professor X. Every one of them could bend most greek demigods over backwards with little fanfare, though mystique would actually have to work at it.

An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
