I think that aesthetic decoupling is a HUGE selling point for MWM. That said, if I were to create a promo video for the game, this is what it would be:
The scene is close to downtown, maybe have it as the close background, so that you have some medium height buildings.
Prepare around 10 unique characters, focusing on showing off various aspects of the chargen that would interest the majority of people.
The video does a quick 360 pan of the character to show off the costume, then the character activates a travel power to get to the top of a close building (should be 4 or 5 stories...ish).
There are some bad guys up top and the character uses a power, doesn't matter which but probably a melee power. Video doesn't show the whole fight...just a few seconds, maybe enough time to show 1 or 2 other powers.
Reset.
New character, but doing the exact same thing.
The differences:
-shows off different aspects of the chargen than all previous characters in the video
-shows off either a new aesthetic for the travel power or features a different travel power than what has been shown so far
-shows off aesthetic decoupling by using the same power(s) but with a different aesthetic each time
There would be some text in the video to make it clear that the attack power being used was the exact same one for all of the characters, maybe some text to clarify which travel powers were the same but with different aesthetics (like flight with wings, jetpack, silver surfer style, etc).
I'm not marketing person, though, so maybe this wouldn't be as cool to other people as it would to me.
How would YOU do it?

I totally like this idea. I don’t wanna sound pushy with MWM but it’d be a really good time to show something like this off, or at least more “teasers” like the stomp clip we saw recently.

I've been thinking about the timing of the cool marketing videos from MWM and I don't think it's really a huge deal right now. For one I don't think they're ready for videos like the one I described; they'd probably need most of their systems done and integrated along with the animations and aesthetics. My second reason, and I think this one holds the most weight, is that the 2nd Chance fundraiser is going to stay open and run until Issue #1 releases. Since they are hosting it themselves, there is no reason to try and push a huge marketing release before they are ready. As soon as they drop the 2nd Chance they are going to get a considerable number of devoted fans donating. Some might not donate if whatever MWM releases with the 2nd Chance doesn't live up to their expectations...but the fundraiser will stay open. So lets say they are finally ready to show off something truly spectacular 6 months down the road...they'll get all of those that were reserved or unimpressed at the beginning. I think this kind of model is a great idea for their business model. They'll get little waves of donations with all of their bigger updates and releases...more like a steady stream.
Well, that's just my thought anyway.

Ah yeah okay, now you mention it that makes a lot sense but there seems to be a lot of promises and not much to show for it. I think I’m a bit impatient though so that doesn’t help haha.
Well I’m glad that’s lasting a while then so I can think about donating c:

Yea, that is, unfortunately, a common feeling with a lot of people. Even myself from time to time. But ultimately we're all still here and will most likely still donate and buy and play the game so its a mute point. I've said enough on what I think they need to improve...now I'm just going to hold back all my...less positive...opinions and wait for their big marketing push. I'm 99% sure that at that point I'll be completely sold on it. There is A LOT that they haven't shown, or probably even hinted at, so I'm sure everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

If it is in the build, I'd suggest another twist where the character just swaps costumes (presumably the aesthetics would change too) instead of changing characters. Then just demonstrate that the powers are still the same. That would drive home that there can be variation within a character itself.

For the purpose of showing of costume and AD variation then I don't think there are that much better options. As Planet 10 says, including actually changing costume (and build were needed) would most likely have a higher impact than just cutting to a "new" character.
aesthetic decoupling is one of the best things about this game. a promo video showing that off will be one of the best ads we will ever make.

In this case, not just a video with several (finished) powers. But a video which focus on the system of creating our own powers. That's what is powerful :)
