I wonder, who make the sound effects of powers or punch or even environment noise ? As it is a real part of immersion in a game, as part as the music, i wonder what importance MWM has give to this sode of the developpment
I have difficulties to see how much work there is on the effect sounds and noises and it could be nice to hear a sound designer ou someone else who manage that :)

Yes. Sound effects made up a huge portion of the game. Ambient sounds, score from zone to zone and of course powers. I still sometimes watch CoH Let's Play on youtube just to hear those sounds...
What can I say? Probably healthier than needing Ambien to get to sleep...
I like the scores from Hell Wreckage so far. :-)
True. Looooootta bass in CoH.
Made you feel powerful, but my wife got mad all the way across the house when she was trying to sleep.
Hope the sounds are powerful in CoT!
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
Have you been receiving the score as it has been completed? Mostly asking because I had purchased the soundtrack add-on but haven't gotten anything

When the MWM Twitch is by CLoganArt, he often plays Hellwreckage in the background.

Quite true, but that's Music, not 'Bang, Pow, Zoom, or Freem!'
Somewhere, I recall seeing a link to some of Hellwreckage's music. https://www.youtube.com/user/Hellwreckage
I presume the Devs are collecting a Library of Effects sounds. We may not hear them until Beta, though.
Be Well!

Yeah, there are likely entire libraries of ready-to-download sounds at their fingertips. MWM might not have to do much in the way of custom ambient sound FX (city background noise, leaves rustling, footsteps, grunts, etc.) - a lot of it has probably already been covered by other creators.
I've only heard the scores from a few of the updates.
I asked about the status of the Hellwreckage soundtrack a while ago, but I never saw a response. I wouldn't mind knowing what's going on with it.
The last we heard was from Doctor Tyche in June in this thread. Basically one last track was being completed then.

I am really a big fan of the radiation set sounds. Very old school sci fi sounds. I hope there is something comparable.
That's a music track but what about the FX ? :)
I can't imagine the fx sounds will be cheap with this game :)

Maybe just get Michael Winslow to help out! :)
(insert pithy comment here)
Here's the hilarious thing. I keep hearing bits and pieces of City of Heroes sound FX showing up in the damnedest places that have absolutely nothing to do with Cryptic Studios. I mean, see if the beeping tech noises in this clip twig anything from your memories of being inside "tech labs" in City of Heroes.

I might be wrong but I always thought they used a bunch of "3rd party library" sound FX for CoH. At least I never thought that they custom-made every last bit of noise that was ever part of that game. Thus if they did "borrow" some sounds from 3rd party sources it's completely reasonable to think that other people have used the same samples that Cryptic Studios used.
For what it's worth I think I've heard some clips of CoH type noises buried in random shows over the years. I definitely know that some relatively recent sci-fi shows have borrowed bits of "engine noises" or "computer noises" from the various Star Trek shows/movies so it probably happens quite a bit.

Our punches should sound like punches from Indiana Jones!
I'm often amazed at how a sound effect that's maybe a few milliseconds long can resonate so powerfully with me that I can place where I've heard it before.
And yet, I'm terrible with names and faces.

Hi there.
CoX did use a specific (now very dated and overused) sound library to assemble most of their early sounds. This is common practice for sound design. We have much more to choose from nowadays and hope to bring a more modern and cinematic feel to the sound design of the city.

So, you didn't realize your own sound fx ? like GW2 could have made it ?

We definitely are creating our own sounds. Like all designers, we will combine libraries, recordings and scratch designed sounds to make the game as unique and colorful as possible.

I like reading this kind of word when speaking about sounds :)
Thanks for the answer !

Well, there are sound palettes...

In which you choose which sound will be better than another ? How do youo choose the FX by the way ? like that, just because it's nice to hear or do you choose it compared to some goals ?

I was just cruising through some old videos regarding the sonic attack sounds. I ran across this video, which doesn't have any examples. But this video does capture a few moments inside a hospital. And as I watched it, I was almost teary-eyed as I listened to the background sounds. Those sounds were so much more a part of the experience than I ever imagined they would be.

I never really realized how good the sound design was in CoH, and how big a difference it makes. I'm sure CoT won't skimp though, they've been pretty comprehensive in their planning.
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
Speaking of sound design, what about those tracks from Hellwreckage (or whatever his name was) that were supposedly close to being finished?
Yeah, it's kind of remarkable how some sounds become so deeply embedded in your memories that hearing them again "takes you right back" to the last time you heard them.

I so love that. I think the villain soundtracks evoke the most memories for me, probably because they are so extreme.
I sincerely hope that someone in the modding community is able to make a soundtrack with all these original soundscapes in them. While I am eager to see what Titan City soundscapes might be, I know there will be times when I want these jamming in my headphones instead.

I just set my alarm clock to AtlasPark.
"THE TITANS ARE COMING! THE TITANS ARE COMING!"
My 'message notification', 'message received', and 'message sent' chime on my mobile is the /tell sound from CoH/V.
Damnit, Red! You sent me down the paragonwiki vortex! Specifically the AMAs.
Got some inspiration to update my backstories I guess
