Tutorials and Achievements and Accountwide Unlocks

So the first part of this is about tutorials. It's pretty common practice to cover most things in a Starter/Tutorial zone/mission. I'd like to do away with that. I'd rather see each tutorial subject get it's own mission. This way, you don't have to set aside a whole zone for it, and better, if/when some aspect of the game design changes, you don't have to go rebuild a large mission or zone to update the tutorial. You rebuild a relatively small mission, or add new ones, or even get rid of ones that are no longer relevant.

Tied to this, I would like to see account wide badges/unlocks tied to such missions. Say you have enough tutorial missions to get a character to level 5. There's some spiffy badges in those missions. Once you've completed a mission, every character on your account is considered to have completed that mission, including gaining the xp for it. You no longer need to take every new character through the entire tutorial just to obey your OCD about getting Red Bug Down and Saved The City. No more having to make every alt kill 100 Contaminated to get Isolator.

Of course, if you put the game away for a few months or years and need a refresher, you could then replay those missions through some sort of Ouroboros-like replay system... though preferably something more arbitrary and mechanical, rather than trying to tie a story to what should simply be a feature.

1 replay system see in CoT is defiance replay system

While the idea of account

While the idea of account wide Badges got it's merits, the Contaminated are exactly somethign I do NOT want that way. It's not something you come by when doing the usual stuff. It's realy a personal achievement for each character.

Something like "account

Something like "account badges" should be reserved only for things that have some connection to the "real world" such as Anniversary, Veteran, or Holiday/Beta testing Attendance badges. These are things that have more relevance to something that the "player" did than any one specific character in the game world. Any other badge in the game should strictly be given out on a character-by-character basis, especially ones like defeat badges.

Worrying about whether any badges can be earned during "tutorials" is only important when whether or not any character could go back and have access to them at any time. The fundamental flaw with a badge like the CoH Isolator was that there was originally no way a character who had already left the tutorial by Issue 2 could have ever had ANY chance to get that badge (since it didn't even exist in the game until Issue 2). As long as CoT avoids any stupid mistakes like that again we'll be fine.

CoH player from April 25, 2004 to November 30, 2012

I still say they could have made it difficult, but not impossible to go to a Tutorial zone, so you can meet up with your spouse and help them better through the tutorial. But i guess you can always roll a new toon at the same time as your spouse. ;P

Precisely on target, and I thank you for it!

IMHO, account wide badges should be limited to subscription time... Similar to what CoH had. All other badges should go by individual Hero accomplishments. Just doesn't make sense to give out a "Defeated 2,000 Villains" badge to all characters, when only one character in your stable has done so.

As long as the tutorial

As long as the tutorial badges are JUST badges, i.e. they don't unlock some awesome Accolade later on or anything, I think individual badges for each toon is okay. Most serious badge hunters only hunt badges on one toon anyway, isn't that right?

I am with you 125% sir! Would be great if, say you have a higher level toon, and it gets Sidekicked to said spouses/friends level, allowing entry to the Tutorial.

Contact ask you to defeat 200 carnies. You go out, and star defeating a few, but then you notice the Defeat Number isnt decreasing.. and is in fact 200 out of 200. Ohhh, ur Done!

You head back to the Contact. He gives you another defeat 100 Circle of Thorns. You head out, and start bashing some CoT skulls, but then you notice the defeat Number isn't changing. Ohhh, again? Ur Done!

~~~.... rinse and repeat ....~~~
After a while, you dont go out to smash any skulls, and just sit by the Contact until his/her leads dry up. And you keep doing the same thing for many of the other contacts until you're Max level.
Weeeeeee. Wasnt That a Fun Game!? ;D
Badges are different from
Badges are different from missions, though.
If Hero X has defeated 10,000 Skulls in his time as a hero, that doesn't auto-complete the mission when one of his contacts says 'Hey, could you go rough up, er, question 10 Skulls about the bank robbery last night?"
The mission only cares about how many Skulls you fought while the mission was active, it does not reference the badge counts at all. Likewise, the badge for defeating Skulls doesn't care if you are defetaing them for a mission or just randomly punching Skulls as you fly down the street.
