Themed Team-ups

While reminiscing with others about their beloved CoH characters I was reminded about the fun I had RPing with some folks as a kind of "set piece" team. Like Marvel's Cloak & Dagger. I had a pair of characters in CoV who were basically petty thieves trying to make it "Big." Jimmy DeLocke and Samesh Davindher.(get it?) Since they were both my characters, I couldn't play them at the same time, but I always imagined them having crazy bungled heists.

My favorite, though, was my girlfriend at the time and I would play together as a team. She was a 'valleygirl' with cold powers (Ice/Ice blaster) who was the daughter of a super-rich tech mogul. I played her faithful robotic servant (ice/ice tank), given to her by her father to protect her until she got over her silly 'do-gooder phase.' Together we were CryoJenny and FreezeDroid. We had a blast RPing these roles while grouped with others.

Anybody else have that kind of relationship with other characters in CoX?

Oh yeah! I had a couple of those.

A friend of mine and I teamed up to create Kid Cougar and Sable Wren. A pair of teenage sidekicks who set out on their own as a duo after their respective mentors went missing/retired. We used the leveling pact to keep at the same level.

Then myself and 4 other friends created the Solar Guard. A human who had been taken off Earth by aliens during WWII, joined the Solar Guard (a galactic peacekeeping force), rose in the ranks, then came back home with his cadre after getting word of the Rikti Invasion. One human, 4 aliens, all in Solar Guard uniforms. We had a blast.

I had a blast with my 'permanent Scrapper' friend, playing twin FF/Energy Defenders named Starchild. We played maximum mutual defense, and KB Violence, often 'sweeping' attackers off of each other. Playing Defenders as if they were Scrappers - what a strange experience, but FUN!

Be Well!

When I was still playing CO

When I was still playing CO regularly, I often played with a group of three (myself and two others). My favorite "themed group" we had was the "Star Fleet Away Team", with simulated Original Series uniforms and (at higher levels) massed Orbital Phasers. ^_^

When I first started playing

When I first started playing CoH, I created a lot of characters who I would play for a while, then stop playing (usually around level 3?) and create a new character. But the first two characters who I consistently played: St. Cloud (mind controller/ storm summoning - my first 50) and Scarlet Furie (archery/ fire manipulation - my second 50) I imagined as the mentors to the all of the characters who I created later.

Aside from providing my newest heroes with influence to help them get started, I imagined St. Cloud and Scarlet Furie holding weekly dinners/ support group meetings where everyone discussed their latest adventures, problems, and exchanged tips.

And, after the leader of an SG I belonged to decided to kick everyone out the group, I decided to start my own personal SG. I imagined that the characters who populated my SG had all once attended the Ascension Institute for Posthuman Studies, where they learned to understand and control their powers and abilities; and where, after graduating from the primary course, they decided to enter the advanced program, aka "superhero 101."

Also, when CoH went free-to-play, I opened a free account and did same mission team-ups with my characters. I could actually only play one character at a time, but I would do things like have St. Cloud use mass confusion on a mob, then switch to Jade Drakhan (martial arts/ invulnerability scrapper) who would take out the confused mob. I also tried this tactic with blasters, but if the confuse wore off before the mob was defeated, what happened was usually not very pretty.
