I doubt I'm doing this right, been awhile since I've been on the forums.
I'm really hoping that there will be some analogue to the Spines powerset from CoH, My first and main character was a spines/dark armor/body scrapper, and while I know this system will be different, I really can't imagine playing a hero game without a spines like power!
I've been playing Champions Online to get my super hero kick (And writing novels), and they've got nothing likes Spines, claws is kinda 'similar' but they're badly done, in my opinion. (Plus they're obviously a weapon, not blades coming out all over your body and slicing people up...)
I'm not sure how popular spines was, to be honest. It was a very eclectic power set, but I loved it! Any one else as interest in seeing Spines covered at some point?
On a side point, Thorns was also one of my favorites, had a dominator character who was the daughter of my main and she was sooo amazing with thorns and fire, same vein. Spikey power please?
As long as MWM doesnt call it Spines.
Call it something else.. Thorns, Spikes, etc... and keep the length smallish.. and when some powers are activated... they can get Big/Long for an instant and revert back.
Hell, they probably could call it spines. There's plenty of precedent in comics. Spines has never been a MAJOR power in comics- I was actually surprised they chose such a relatively obscure power to represent- but it's there and not at all unique to CoX.
FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)
Loved spines, and would be happy if they called it spines again, but as long as the concept is there--spikes/thorns/barbs is fine. I have a spines character I am aching to play again.

Bioblades? I don't mind the size, actually I'd prefer if they had multiple lengths as a costume option, because in my opinion having one foot long spikes or bioblades, is too short! I want BLADES or basically, swords coming from my wrists!
Baraka style from the forearms or Guyver style from the elbows would be pretty sweet. Though, I think blades coming from the wrists/hands/forearms would basically be a claws animation set with a different style of blade. I don't see these in the same category per se as spines. Spines is AoE/aura based though some of the single strike attacks are the same.

For me spines really just means they're not 'claws' because claws are over the hand, subdermal or in the hand (Katars or bladed gauntlets), while spines protrude from all over the body. You're right obviously correct about the method and concept behind Spines (Though I didn't use the damage aura on my main, since I had Dark Armor and was playing more of concept build), though I tend to think they're more along the lines of multiple blades/spines protruding 'naturally' from all over.
I'd like to see a set that dealt more with using sweeping strikes and slashes of the strikes instead of clenching everything and blowing your spines out from every direction, I never really understood how that worked. To me the set should have been using the different parts of the body that were covered with the spikes to attack. (Knee strikes, elbow strikes, lunges.)
If we were to have a 'spines' set, what we're really talking about here is more of a set of animations. These could be bones, thin quills, short or long spines (referencing many spined sea creatures for the possible variety), jagged rocks, metal, crystals, wooden thorns, and on the list can go. The premise would be a set themed with sharp objects protruding from the body, probably utilizing plenty of melee area effects (this includes cones and some ranged attacks.
The most technical term would probably be Projection, but that wouldn't immediately convey the proper message since it isn't a common term to use for this instance. Spines would most likely suffice for a name. Not that we have put any thought into it or anything...

I had heard spines wasn't a particularly popular set, but I could be wrong, not much necessity for it without demand, but I loved it! I hope you guts have time to work it in!
I was thinking 'bone blades' when I started reading the thread. Although I don't really have any personal preference on how it'd work past the name. I just think that (or bioblades) sounds cooler and more original.

From the elbows, would be great. I don't recall any other MMO giving that option.

As Tannim said the way CoT is designing its "Powersets" wont be based on Theme or Animation. You can apply "Spines" in whatever visual theme you like (bones, quills, sharp rocks, techno-blades, bananas, etc) to almost any powerset you like.
Gunner Class (RangedDPS/Protection) where your ranged attacks are thrown Spines - sure
Stalwart Class (Protection/melee) where your Protection is a tight covering of quills that block/deflects attacks - sure
Guardian Class (Support/RangedDPS) where you cover your allies in techno-blades that do blocks/deflects attacks - sure (also would be cool if there were some Damage on Hit powers where the foes take damage when they hit you :))

Ahh, that's true, hadn't considered that when I thought of the question. Just thought "I need my spines!" I was always quite partial to melee, even when I was supposed to be playing a ranged AT. I can't wait to play this game, Nothing fills the void!

I miss CoH and nothing matches it.
I enjoyed Spines I just wish they had it on Brutes as I preferred them to Scrappers.
Couldn't keep my early Spines/SR Scrapper due to looking like I had lots of banana's or other phallic-looking items stuck all over me. But once they gave us quills, crystal shards, etc it reopened the set for me.

HAaa I had my Spines/Dark Armor scrapper all the way ntill the end, even through a server transfer from Pinn to virtue, Tobias J Dragun. He was insanely awesome! I remember one thing I did that made him amaaaaazingly efficient was removing the flailing looking power from my build and using Air Superiority, with a couple recharges in all of my main chain attacks, it was sooo great, nothing could stand up around me once I added body mastery.
Is that a spine in your pocket or you just happy to see me .??
Sandstone Terror was my L50 Spines/Invulnerability Scrapper and he was... a living AoE.

To see spines' mechanics replicated (as relevantly as it can be in context) in CoT would be nice. It had a very unique feel to it in how it worked. I remember it being very popular among scrappers at least when I first started playing, and was mechanically superior, IMO to several of the other options.

Loved spines, and got so excited the day I realized you could pair spines with dark and have TWO damage auras!!!
Glorious!
Leap into the biggest pack of enemies and spine burst them to..aaa...jail!
It was like being a living tornado.... I toyed with the idea of doing that with the spiny super speed power.... literally a tornado.

Yep. That's Spyke. Not why I like spines though, and his powers took a very weird turn in my opinion.
