I'm out of my depth here, but...
I did a search and didn't see where this had been specifically discussed, but if so I apologize. Also, this is an idea--not sure if it's a good one or bad one. Just throwing it out there.
Would the relative simplicity of gameplay and controls and the tolerance for latency of non-twitch gameplay make it possibly fully compatible with mobile/tablet play one day?
While desktop/laptop will probably be around for a long time, things do seem to be moving slowly towards a more dominant mobile/tablet format. Also, MWM has been very adamant that they don't want twitch gaming--which seems to be generally more console compatible anyway.
What made me think of this is that there has been a bit of discussion lately on the forums about the commitment to non-twitch gameplay, and it made me start thinking about what advantages that has in market positioning--other than the advantages of accessible and relaxing gameplay, which have been stated.
Also, my wife used to duo in CoH with a player who played point and click on a touch pad and got along just fine. This made me start thinking that maybe since CoT probably isn't going to edge towards the console niche, maybe there is a possibility of it more fully entering into the mobile/tablet niche--further than just the costume creator and some market modules.
Maybe, being non-twitch and cooldown/rooting oriented, it could be fully playable on a tablet? This would still allow accessibility on desktop, but open a niche in tablet-oriented play.
PS- I probably would never play it on tablet myself, but I just want the game to flourish, and so any advantage it can have in the market is of interest.

An interesting idea. Might I be able to CoT on my Fire, as well as build costumes? *crosses fingers*

Satellite9IrezoomieWhile we are not designing the game as an "action oriented" which is the term thrown around these days in place of twitch, we are aiming to allow for greater mobility than tog, not every power will root the character. And positioning can still be an important factor; see cones for example. All this means is that players may not be force rooted at every action sequence, but it doesn't mean that movement will be necessary to be viable either.
I can say that the game is geared toward being played on PC, that is where play will be optimal. While touchpads can be used to implement any movement allowed via mouse, including mouse-keyed-movement, it isn't how the game will be designed to be entirely compatible either. Our UI and key-binding tool are all based on mouse and keyboard.

Thanks for the reply, Tannim!
This was a very speculative idea on my part, of course. My thought being that since CoT won't use "action oriented" combat, and so won't have easy inroads in the console market direction, maybe possible inroads lay in the other direction towards tablet play--especially since the costume creator an possibly other things are being designed towards that already. Just for the sake of broadening the games accessibility and market into an up-and-coming interface option.
But, good news for me about the mouse and keyboard emphasis. Being an old coot, I'll be busily keybinding on my trusty desktop and mouse--or maybe (crosses fingers) even a fancy schmancy big-assed desktop replacement laptop by then!
