So I'm writing a story for my toon in CO and I was running around trying to be able to use locations in my story. Then I realized that the streets don't have any posts with name signs on them. Then I thought about it. I don't think many MMOs ever have street names. It's a tiny little detail but it's a little detail that I think would be cool to see. And for those of us that like to write stories taking place in the games universe, it would be nice to be able to name a location that you can actually go to the game and see. Rather then just saying something like. "The office building at Atlas some where in Hyperion Way" Now I could say on the corner of 5th and Franklin. That would have been a nice think in the kickstarter. Name a street. ^_^ I'd name my Ellysyn Ave. Street names. That's one of those small details I think would be neat to see.

I like this idea.
We are focused on items that give the city flavor, and you certainly present a good point.
I know in our discussions on bases we agree that its those small ordinary details that give locations character and life. In the larger view of this massive project, those seem like trivial items, but they can make all the difference.
That sort of thinking runs deep in all we are doing.

I was actually hoping there would be a "name the street" perk/add-on with the Kickstarter. Well, maybe that can be a post-KS pay-pal add-on.

Really like this idea, maybe they can add it as a bonus that a kickstarter from a certain rank get this1 on 600k?
Yea it would have been a neat little thing to have the KS. But, for me it would have been further up the donation scale then I could give. Sadness. But Ellysyn Ave. That would be awesome. xD
But yea for someone like me. I actually do like to run around and see the smaller details. Yea on the big pic like ya said, it seems trivial. But ya never realize that players will take note of things. Like I loved seeing the billboards. The shop signs. The little posters or signs at a bus stop bench. At Target we have a motto which is "Settle for More". Which is, yea I could take the guest to the aisle that has the product. Or I could take them to the aisle, help them find the product, offer suggestions, and seal the sale. Now that guest leaves happy and we know the guest will return because they know they will find help to its fullest. Which is "Settle for More". So yea you could build a sky scrapper in the game and plop it down. Or you could build it and Animate it so that at night time certain lights turn on in the building so that it makes it look like there are still people working late inside. I'm sure there are more people like me that does in fact notice the smallest things that make the games city more alive and not just a city that someone rushed to put together and plop it out.
What other smaller little details would others like to see? Stuff that someone just running around beating up mobs wouldn't notice.

I think it would also be cool to actually see people inside working at their desk, burning the midnight oil, or some guy taking a break, standing looking out the window watching you fly by.

Excellent idea, Ellysyn! In DC comics, they've often had locations like "the corner of Siegel and Shuster", and City of Heroes was good about having names like "(Bill) Everett Lake" and "(George) Perez Park".
I'd give you two thumbs up for your suggestion *if* I had opposable thumbs! :P

In many communities there are patterns to street name 'types' (Avenues run N/S Streets E/W or some such) and 'flavors' (Oak/Elm/Maple, Lilac/Tulip/Rose, Bluebird/Robin/Cardinal) within neighborhoods.
It would take some time and doing, but what I would love to see is an overall pattern that could be used for seat of the pants navigation repeat itself throughout. For example, Main Street is the E-W thoroughfare, Central Avenue is the main N-S one. Number the streets starting with North and South 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc parallel to Main working north and south from it. Have Avenue's be named streets, alphabetically out from Central (Ash, Beech, Cherry, etc). Do living things (trees, birds, flowers, fish, whatever) one direction and inanimate the other (rocks, tools, cloud types, elements, etc) the other.
The devs could add some neat flavor to the game in this manner, but turning it free on KS might make a mess...
This could also be broken down to Districts based on the street type (all E-W in Suburb A are Road, for example). There are plenty of types (Road, Way, Pass, Lane, Street, Boulevard, Avenue), and name categories are almost unlimited. This could help with game flavor; business district streets called Way, with names like Entrepreneur, Profit, Success, and Machinery, Industrial, Manufacturing, Builders Avenues in the industrial areas.
Finally, it would be sweet lore to have some of the main arterial streets named in honor of deceased memorable heroes.
Of course, then you'd get a bunch of random mismatched names and it could be quite a headache if people who donated hundreds of dollars for the privilege of naming a street have to be told that it isn't appropriate for a game. Even with communities that are reasonably mature as I suspect ours will be.

In the MMO APB Reloaded, all the streets have names and I've got to say, it does add to the immersion factor.
