One of the major departures from other MMOs (and games in general) that CoH had was the ability to play with anyone regardless of how much time they had already invested. The system wasn't perfect, but it was FAR better than what other games offered and few have even attempted to come close since.
I looked in the FAQs and browsed kickstarter updates, but I never saw this mentioned and that really surprised me. Please forgive me if I missed it. Does CoT plan on having some kind of level and loot matching option so people can play together easily?
I honestly think this was a really big part of why CoH had such a friendly community. The game was built so that it encouraged people to play with each other and have fun as a focus. You weren't punished or outright prevented from playing with others, and new players could quickly jump in and join the veterans.
The CoH system could certainly be improved. I'm just nervous that I haven't seen anything on the topic at all.
I believe they intend to have the sidekick mechanism in COT very similar to the way it was in COH.

IIRC they don't plan to copy CoH's Sidekick/Exemplar system "100% identically" but they definitely have mentioned some kind of functional equivalent for it. I'm sure someone will point you towards the links where it's been talked about over the years.
