Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

Shouting the biggest power

What if our character could shout the name of his/her biggest power when casting it or a battle cry when they cast there momentum ?
It could be a nice idea to put this on a speech bubble or even something like that (but maybe its difficult to enter a name and made it appears like that)

I would like to be able to

I would like to be able to set a phrase that gets said with a percentage chance on using any ability. You could make phrases unique to each ability for example, as im looking at going (now operator since the name swap) I want to be able to say -
"Weak Spot Marked"
"Suppressing"
etc

The "percentage" part of your suggestion here is key. Using the keybind system it was actually possible to get characters in CoH to yell out something each time they fired off particular powers by linking the words to the power activation key in question. But because there was no "randomize" function to it you were forced to say your phrase EVERYTIME you used the power which quickly made the whole thing super-annoying. There was even a way to chain these things so that for example you could say 10 different things in a row. But because of the way that worked you'd always re-say the same 10 things over and over - it was not true randomization.

But if there was a keybind function in CoT that made it so you'd only say something perhaps 20% of the time (or whatever percentage you wanted) then it would far more random and would not likely become annoying in the long run.

macros calling to a "pre-randomized" list with 80% "say nothing" might do it without having to get too complicated.

Actually as long as the CoT keybind system simply includes a "randomize" function (ideally with a percentage flag) you could easily do what Deathwatch101 was suggesting.

Brainbot wrote:

That was the problem with the way you had to "chain" keybinds together in CoH. Again a randomize function would solve all of this.

So you want me to make the macro language Turing-complete with a PRNG library, too? <_<

Uh... no. I was just suggesting a single "randomize" function for chat bubbles so that instead of them appearing 100% of the time they could appear randomly. I really don't think this suggestion required a hyperbolic response given that it is relatively reasonable and in fact something I remember people back on the old CoH forums suggesting from time to time. It would make TitansCity's original suggestion in this thread much more feasible based on my own experience with trying to do what he's suggesting.

lol ! Nope, he just give an idea ^^
But, there will be a macro system ? Maybe a function could do what i propose ?...hum... if there is a function, it would be easier to put an input field to record the word/sentence ^^

I dislike the randomized idea

I dislike the randomized idea, imho there are specific moments when you want to yell out the name of your best attack/power or your battle-cry. For example if I'm getting a special role-play or funny moment with a specific team, I want there to yell something funny or in role, not later or yesterday or tomorrow.

Imho the simple customized "battle-cry" (or 2-3 of those, not more) with a specific button is ok and enough, "For Freedom!" (or "Get this! Ultra sonic explosion!!" or "Transformation!" etc. each of us will use it as it pleases for different purposes) and we should all be fine and not spamming useless chaos but "aimed" sentences for specific times.
To further avoid the spam of the war-cry they can simply limit the possibility to repeat a sentence twice or 3 times in the same 10 seconds (like all game chats already do).

If you don't like the random aspect then don't use the "random chance" function/setting.

We're not asking for every "battle shout/message" to be this way but rather having it as one option among several.

Even as a choice it's still

Even as a choice it's still "spam" that way. It means you're putting out sentences "randomly", without specific purpose or need at that time, it's the exact meaning of spam. Imho it's the wrong way to obtain what you really desire and you should think about a different way to obtain the same result that's not a random-chat-sentence coming out of your character.

Because you don't desire "random spam", you desire that your character shouts something (battle-cry or anything similar) and you're trying to find a way to avoid spam (which is why you suggested to put a percentage in that function). Well the random battle-cry when using your powers is still spam, in quality if not in quantity, therefore the solution doesn't meet the intended purpose.

Spam = repeated sentences (quantity)
Spam = out of context sentences (quality, randomly generated sentences)

Doing a macro that caused you

Doing a macro that caused you to say a specific phrase literally every time you used a power got really old really fast in CoX. I wouldn't mind a macro that only fires off when I score a critical hit or something (GW2 does that, which is a way to know when you scored a crit without having to look at the numbers as they scroll by).

Actually, back in CoH you

Back in CoH you could do modal (non-random) keybinds like that. What you did was dedicate a key or two to "mode switch," which would load a keybind file when pressed.

For example, say I wanted the powers on keys 1-5 to trigger a shout before activation, if I pressed the backquote (`) key first. The "normal" keybinds for keys 1-5 are:

Quote:

bind 1 "powexec_slot 1"
bind 2 "powexec_slot 2"
bind 3 "powexec_slot 3"
bind 4 "powexec_slot 4"
bind 5 "powexec_slot 5"

If I added
bind ` "bind_load_file_silent shoutpowers.txt"
, shoutpowers.txt looked something like ("$$" joins consecutive commands):

Quote:

bind 1 "say Eat this!$$powexec_slot 1$$bind_load_file_silent silentpowers.txt"
bind 2 "say This costs $100,000 per second to fire!$$powexec_slot 2$$bind_load_file_silent silentpowers.txt"
bind 3 "say I think I need a new hat!$$powexec_slot 3$$bind_load_file_silent silentpowers.txt"
bind 4 "say It's... high... noon!$$powexec_slot 4$$bind_load_file_silent silentpowers.txt"
bind 5 "say It's showtime!$$powexec_slot 5$$bind_load_file_silent silentpowers.txt"
bind ` "bind_load_file_silent silentpowers.txt"

and silentpowers.txt just put things back where they were:

Quote:

bind 1 "powexec_slot 1"
bind 2 "powexec_slot 2"
bind 3 "powexec_slot 3"
bind 4 "powexec_slot 4"
bind 5 "powexec_slot 5"
bind ` "bind_load_file_silent shoutpowers.txt"

then all you have to do is press ` before the button for the power you want shouted. All these file loads were pretty much instant. The downside, of course, is that they were all local to your machine, and you'd have to copy them to your other installs.

It's more flexible than the built-in "press F10 for battle cry" button, but more work to set up, too.

I was on a team one time with someone who had bound some phrase to each and every power they used. One time. After that they were on my list of people to never, ever run a mission with. It got really old and annoying in about 2 minutes, tops.

The reason i want to have them occasionally pop up on an Operator is that they are designed to be useful and set on abilities that would debuff or reinforce teammates attacks against a specific target and thus can act as an occasional reminder to keep an eye on my animation etc.

For example I might have a set of grenade attacks for crowd control or damage, so as the animation would be pretty much the same but the status effects of say a concussion or flash grenade would be something I want to notify my party about as it might mean changing targets etc rather than that of a "fragmentation grenade"

I experimented with chat

I experimented with chat binds in CoH. When I attached a bind to anchored powers I got responses from team mates that varied from thanking me for explaining and calling out my targets to being "yelled" at for spamming, leading to further antagonism in chat. It wasn't long before I decided the utility was questionable and it wasn't worth the headache. I kept a standard chat bind on all my characters to call out enemies as long as I played however; quite handy for sappers, shadow cyst crystals and other dangerous foes.

For those who want the occasional roleplay colour in chat, a random activation on a bind might be a nice QoL feature, but for me personally it's waaaay down the list of priorities. Binds to target specific enemies by name or type, (de)activate powers, load files etc. became integral to my play style and I care about those things a lot more.

Agreed. Back when WoW hunters had Hunter's Mark to give their team a bonus to attack the target, I used a Macro to announce that and ID the target in case they couldn't see the big red arrow.

Yes this is essentially what I did for several of my characters back in CoH. Still doesn't completely nullify the suggestion to replace your need to manually "shift" the binds (using you backquote (`) key) with a randomization function so that these things could happen randomly instead of having to manually turn them on.

What would be wrong with something like this:

Quote:

bind 1 "sayrandom Eat this!$$powexec_slot 1"
bind 2 "sayrandom This costs $100,000 per second to fire!$$powexec_slot 2"
bind 3 "sayrandom I think I need a new hat!$$powexec_slot 3"
bind 4 "sayrandom It's... high... noon!$$powexec_slot 4"
bind 5 "sayrandom It's showtime!$$powexec_slot 5"

Where the "sayrandom" command would simply throw in a RNG call to make the phrase appear randomly instead of 100% of the time? I'd probably set the percent chance for this fairly low (like maybe 20%) so that, as others have said, the phrase fires off rarely enough so that it doesn't become annoying.

I get that sometimes you'd want to specifically control exactly when you'd want to say something while using a power and using a scheme like yours would accomplish that. But there are clearly other times where it'd be cool to just let the "battle phrases" be a random occurrence so that it would give your character a sense of being "alive" by doing things you don't have absolute control over.

If it's select powers that's okay. The ones people bound to teleport or that sort of thing were handy so you know what was about to happen. When it gets to some elaborate "Witness the power of my incredible healing hands!!" each time they spam a heal, along with something like "Beware of the power of my brawl!" or "Behold my miraculous hover!!", than it gets old *really* fast.

I don't particularly care for

I don't particularly care for this idea myself as I find clutter on my screen in any form bothersome and distracting, but if this was rendered client-side, then who cares. Go for it.

Perhaps this problem could be solved with a "Roleplay" channel? That way players who want to include roleplayed chat with power activations and other things can do so, and players who find it annoying can simply remove the channel from their chat display.

That's absolutely a viable option too. I wasn't trying to imply that my suggestion was the only game in town and therefore no others were an option.
Edit: My preferences in regard to options are generally the more, the merrier. And if there are different levels of graphical options, that'd be lovely. I'm currently playing Secret World Legends (SWL) and there are a veritable bevy of graphical effects that happen when on a team or a raid. There are command line options for adjusting the level of graphics displayed by you, your team, your raid, etc, they do tend to muck with the attacks and GFX of the enemies and therefore just easier to leave them all enabled.

Another method of doing this

Another method of doing this would be to have different shouts trigger for each power that crit'd. The tricky part would be trying to define what a crit meant for a defensive power. Possibly you could have the defensive shouts trigger if you deflected or absorbed >90% of the possible damage or healed >90% of the possible health. But all of that would assume that defensive powers had a range built into them instead of a flat % to defense or healing. And then you have the whole issue of buffing or debuffing powers. Maybe you could set these so you could choose to use a shout in place of an animation. That way every time you hit MoG you could shout "Come and get some" instead of having the flex animation with the glowy aura.

No idea as I’m not on the tech team and have no idea what’s involved. But at a high level, I’d change that to two parameters, the first being a number for the percent chance: sayrandom 5, Eat this!$$powexec_slot 1

It’s like how /tell worked. A hardwired chance is pretty much guaranteed to satisfy nobody.

I was just writing about what could be done with the existing keybind system back in City of Heroes, as a baseline and not a commentary on what CoT will have.

What about a special particle

What about a special particle effect that goes onto your power animations whenever you momentum them up?

not my video just one I lke ===> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6-SdIN0hsM

Well I was keeping the basic idea simple but yes the "ideal" version of this would let the player set the percent chance this "chat proc" would fire.

Yes and it was good to have some example binds to actually look at. But like I said I actually remember people suggesting some variation of "random chats" like this as far back as the CoH forums.

This is likely why the idea of the randomized chat was re-suggested here on this thread. Unless you did something with your chat keybinds (like Lin Chiao Feng's example) that kept them from popping up 100% of the time these things could get very annoying very quickly.
