The Tank is the one who take aggro, the dps who do damage, the controller for giving mana and the healer for hp :)

See the Updated Classification and Specification Chart.
IIRC, rows are primary roles, columns are secondary, Bold Names are planned, Underscored Bold Names are planned for launch, blank spaces are possible "way way after launch, if at all", and lined through spaces are planned to not be used.
Foradain, Mage of Phoenix Rising.

Ah ok thanks for the answer :D

Of course, that's a very old chart, so there may be some updates to it. Still, we can expect to not see a 'Defense/Defense' or similar double-dip class.

Not sure if you played City of Heroes back in the day, but I think classes should work about the same in this game. So, yes, there will be classes with a focus on damage, controls, buff/debuff or toughness, but there will be a degree of variation within each, and you shouldn't be forced to have just the right combo of characters to get through the game.
Damage Output
Damage Protection
Buff
Debuff
Mezz
Pets
That's basically the six axis "suite of options for what characters ought to be good at. You could even do it as a kind of hexagon graph to show strengths and weaknesses. Sort of like this:

Love this.. no idea where you found it but I would LOVE if my in-game character sheet had a version of this in it as well
(I'd say mobility is better placed opposite control but none-the-less)

Considering the fact that Mobility is really hard to quantify when you aren't just dealing with 2D movement speeds alone, that's probably something best left off such a chart.

assuming they are going the route of CoH I would assume that one could form a team with the classic trinity (DPS, Heals, Tank) but one could also go the route of making the team consist of whatever one wanted. the most effective team I was ever a part of was the ole Defender team....8 defenders, different builds, rolled through content like no-ones business...it was kinda scarey how easy it was.
the point being that while you could have the trinity....it is not needed. will they have classes that fall into each of the roles...yup. will these roles all be needed on a team to be successful in completing content...I hope not. although I suspect that depending on the players involved and the actual specs of the class content difficulty could go up or down depending.

Right, the key point of the lesson we learned in CoH is that roles are irrelevant. Teams don't depend on roles, merely mutual support. Two Tanks, or two DPS, or two Whatevers are more effective than one. Three random PUG characters are more effective still, as long as they all use their abilities to help each other.
There is no magic formula for success.

I think we could all agree that if you have an experienced team with perfectly complementary character builds that you're going to do much better than a random PUG. That's pretty obvious. I just don't want CoT to become a game where you MUST have perfectly crafted teams with various "holy trinities" just to barely manage to succeed. Any team should be able to have FUN regardless of how efficient/effective they are.
