I'm feeling nostalgic about my old CoV characters. I had an energy melee stalker that was so much fun to play. So many hours of running through mobs in stealth, then teleporting my teammates right to objectives. I also miss my psychic dominator ^.^
What about everyone else? What power sets did your babies have?

Remembering your old CoH/CoV characters
My husband and I played as Bad Hatter and Grim Lolita. I created her before vampires became so en vogue, so bear that in mind. Anyway, Grim was a vampire school girl with pigtails and a pleated skirt. She'd play hookey with Hatter and hang around town, sometimes at Wentworth's. They later served in the military and enjoyed travelling together. Eventually Grim grew her adult wings and blossomed into a demonic powerhouse of justice.
Here are a few of my screenshots: Grim Lolita
I played Alberta Clipper. A Storm Summoning/Electrric Defender whom I played as a blaster. I lost count the number of times I got invited to a team, only to be kicked off when they found out I couldn't heal anyone! LOL
-Wolf sends
I remember having this one Controller who I named, "Firestorm." His powers were exactly as his name advertized- Fire Control and Storm Summoning. Apparently, blitzing through mobs with a trio of fire imps, a tornado, and a lightning cloud over your head while blowing everyone away with Gale and Hurricane whilst burninating everyone with the glorious Bonfire power (complete with max recharge speed enhancements for maximum nuking) is one of the times when I felt most alive playing that game.

My fortunata was really fun to play too. I hope CoT has classes that unlock from getting someone to lvl 50 :D
Redlynne escaped from the Sisters of Divine Love and Retribution Catholic Girls School and Seminary before her indoctrination could be completed in taking the Order's Vow of Violence. I made her up as a Martial Arts/Super Reflexes Scrapper back in Issue 2, when almost nobody was doing anything with Super Reflexes, simply because it was an underpowered and late maturing Powerset (required reaching Level 50, essentially, just to get all the Slots you needed).
Redlynne WILL RETURN to continue to fight using The Flying Feet of NO GET HITSU!!
And ... Sidhe Bang ... will absolutely return, provided I can do a Defender styled Debuff/Dual Pistols combo for her. Sidhe Bang was just too damn iconic to leave behind in Paragon City.

Verbogeny is one of many pleasurettes afforded a creatific thinkerizer.
I had a necromancer named Captain Zombie Bones back in the day (he was Necro/Dark) whom was fun. I was planning on remaking him (with a different name and design) into a Necro/Poison but I never got around to it. I had the perfect design idea in my head too once I saw the Magic Pack come out.
I also had a Crab Spider, Night Widow, and Warshade I used often. They were pretty fun to play. My illusion controller got the shaft, she was named Glimmer and damn was she was hard to play to 50. I also had a plant dom and if I returned I was planning to make a dark dom (or was it controllers that got that powerset?) but that never happened

My characters
I played a Fire/Fire blaster I named Potbelly Stove. I made him short and pudgy, but then his costume resembled Infernal...so there really was no harmony there, lol. Still, I loved playing that character the most, out of the many alts I made over the course of CoH/CoV.
Karen Morris
Former CoH junkie
whiteperegrine: psi/psi blaster (rerolled from defender emp/energy). had his wings set to a macro so they would only appear when he was flying to assist in simulating they were a psychic manifestation. :)
citenik: ss/wp. took him blue side soon as it became available. originally, he was a ss/invuln tank. but given his ability to absorb kinetic energy and use said energy to augment his strength...brute just worked perfectly.
ms.majestic: energy/energy blapper! what's this term...."squishie?" CHAAARGE!
st.aegis: dark/shield scrapper. I found him to be extremely durable...and fun!
lionseye: dual pistol/traps. super agent who I also took blueside ASAP! loooooved those dp animations.
those were the biggies I played all the time...honorable mentions go to Crosshart (ta/a) and Astrogate (crav/energy dominator...originally a grav/rad troller).
I never really liked redside, so all my characters there were either working "undercover" or trying to escape....at least until they opened up the option to jump side and I was all over that faster than a fat kid through a twinkie!

And many others.

Fireheart
My first hero to hit 50 was a katana super reflexes scrapper named Silver Blade. I've ended up recreating him, or as close as I could get, in a number of other games. And my first 50 red side was a Necro poison mastermind Nightmare Lazarus
Lucomo:
lvl 50 WP/SS Tanker. He was the only toon that I conquered altitis long enough to reach 50. My only toon to complete the Statesman TF. He was the one who took on all the big stuff
Chromeo 7:
lvl 43 Beam Rifle/Devices Blaster. BR was enjoyable for me because it had the built in "disintegrate" mini-game. Hover, splash, repeat
Wild Diana:
lvl 41 Archery/EM blaster. She would've been my second lvl 50 but I missed a few days during the last week. The Swiss Army knife of Blasters. Teleport Friend. Medicine Pool. Leadership Pool. If you were a friend in need? And she only used Ninja Run, making her my only non-hover Blaster
Nhuraita:
lvl 40 Claws/WP Brute. Claws was always a favorite of mine and that went double for Brutes. Focus was the ultimate "sit down and shut up" attack. Then Spin, Eviscerate, Follow up, Slash, Strike, and Swipe. She was another toon that could have made it to lvl 50, but my attention shifted to WD in the end
So may toons, and I hope they can live again
Lay your hands on me
While I'm bleeding dry
Break on through blue skies
And take it high

I myself had many many Characters. My Favorites included a Fire/Fire Tank named Puff Dragon, an Ice/Storm Controller named Ice Follies and A Fire/Fire Blaster named Cinnamon Styx. I played on Virtue and loved the community there. I also played a Dark/Dark Defender I was very fond of named Sonata Moonlight as well as a legion of others. I so loved the game.......Now I has a sad =(
I reserve the right to have an opinion. You reserve the right to not agree.
I remember playing on a team with a toon named Puff Dragon, on Virtue,
but he had a Greenish skin/scales. ;)
Warbird (pictured left) was actually Mayan Warbird, lvl50 SS/Will tanker. He'll return mainly because I hope some folks will recognize him from these forums and say hi.
RazorShade, Dark/claws stalker, a down and out cop possessed by a forgotten demi-god of justice and retribution named R'ae za Sha'ed.
Captain Combustion, Pretty standard Fire/fire blaster, My favorite Silver Age toon, with a variety of other "age" costumes, Golden Age, Pulp, etc.
Tiger Kai, My first lvl50, was a DW/regen scrapper. Great build combo, almost too easy to play, but great fun none the less.
I haven't yet figured out how the new AT's will translate into some of these concepts. Some of my characters were inspired by a funny/cool name and the build AT & power set were adopted to fit. Sometimes the other way around. Some were inspired by a single costume piece. Can't wait to be inspired by the new possibilities of City of Titans!
Where to begin...,
Thunder-Puncher: 50 Energy Blast/Energy Manipulation/Munitions. "The Melee Blaster" Quite literally the most ridiculous character I ever made...only 2 primary powers: Energy Blast and Nova. Everything else was specifically selected to encourage survival/melee potential. If it weren't for the Paragonian Knights (Virtue)...he would've never made 50.
Doc Phantasm: ? Illusion Control/Poison/Primal. Never made it past the intro screen before CoX went down. The one character I had the most difficult time with concept-wise. After probably a dozen or so remakes...I finally managed to settle on a power sets and now, like the dimension teleporting magician that he is - he's now stuck in limbo. :/
Psy-Chic: 50 Mind Control/Force Field/Psionic. "The Mental Bombshell" One of my most rp intensive characters thanks to the Sterling Sentinels (Virtue). First character to ever get a day job and first to acquire a power accolade from day jobs (Beguile...like, she really needed another control ability). ;)
Many, many alts like 'Ms Lady Liberty' (Broadsword/Invulnerabilty Scrapper), 'HALO (High Altitude Low Orbit) XIII' (Assault Rifle/Energy Manipulation Blaster), 'Chief Justice' (Shield Defense/War Mace/Energy Tanker), 'Longbow Marksman' (Trick Arrow/Archery Defender). Didn't get into villains so much...especially once they made villain AT's available to heroes, which brings me to...
Galaxy-Gal: 48th(?) Super Strength/Willpower/ Energy Brute "Mutant Powerhouse with Anger Management Issues" Don't think I got her to 50th...but to be quite honest, it really was only a matter of time. She was my 'Shiva'...my destroyer - the first character I had that could solo AV's (...even without IO's or Hami O's...). Snagged the name in commemoration of Galaxy City getting scrubbed by the Shivans, If CoX reopened, I would go back just to have the opportunity to play her again - she was -THAT- fun. My 'KB Queen'. ^_^
Countershock - electric/electric blaster
Plymouth Arrow - TA / A defender and my first 50
Lagrange Point - grav/kin controller
Traumahawk - empathy/sonic defender
Afterimage - went though several iterations but ended up a SR/kinetic melee scrapper
Windguard - storm/electric defender
Rigel X - invul/SS tank was my first melee toon and started a tank/brute renaissance for me. He was the only toon I took 1 to 50 without playing anything else!
Alabama Power - shield defense / electric melee
Chief Sitting Still - stone/stone tank
Cryo Havok - ice/storm controller
Cosmic Wraith - Peacebringer
Accelerant - kinetic / fire blast dominator
There were many more but those were my favorites
"I don't think you understand the gravity of your situation."
Trackstar: Tank lvl 40 Invulnerability / Energy Melee / Flight / Leadership
http://i.imgur.com/JP40e9n.jpg?1
I had one for each hero archetype, but my favorite was my robotics mastermind. "Tantalum Viper" was short, reptilian, and wore a baggy gray-camo sweatshirt and pants. Also, a pink ray gun. I don't know why I made it pink. It looked dumb, in retrospect. Pink in the right place can look nice, but that was not the right place. She named her robots after Shakespear characters.
The heroes I was less fond of, truthfully. A lot of them were shaky ideas or just didn't have a lot of character to them. I mean, I had fun playing all of them (especially my shield/SS tanker) but I'm big for characterization. The one I likely played the most was a energy/energy blaster who was a robot. I remember using the 'electron' pattern and platform shoes. I figured that she wasn't actually made for public appearances, so they let the engineers have some fun with her appearance.
Under Construction...
You must not have picked up O2 Boost then lol.
For me - my favourite characters were:
Interdictor - my first character - started on Guardian with my buddies, but re-rolled over on Freedom when they stopped playing. Force Field/Energy Blast Defender. Made much use of the Leadership pool to cover up holes in FF - probably one of the few toons that actually picked up and used Vengeance ('cause you know - defeat happens sometimes). This guy was also my badge-whore.
Gestalt Entity - Humanform Peacebringer. REALLY fun to play on teams - and a bit more challenging solo. Had this guy Frankenslotted to all heck - it was great.
Storm Lord - Storm Summoning/Ice Blast Defender. Probably my most FUN character to play, and certainly one of my most versatile; with the inclusion of powers from the Electricity Mastery set, he played like some kind of weird Defender/Blaster/Controller. 3 different Holds, area disorient, some nice direct damage, 3 PBAoE DoT powers, slows (a LOT of slow), area denial powers, a little defense and resistance, a little stealth, a little healing and mez protection, even a couple pets (if you can consider Tornado and Lightning Storm to be pets).
Kinetimancer - Gravity Control/Kinetics Controller. Little challenging to solo at times - but lots of fun on teams - hard controls and buffs/debuffs are always welcome. Plus I loved throwing junked cars at people.
Frostblade - Ice Armour/Ice Melee Tank. Yeah - he faceplanted a few times - and he really hated the auto-hit attacks (and DE crystals) - but I really liked the ability to completely aggro and lock down everything around him - kinda like a melee controller.
... plus many more created over the years - of ALL Archetypes - these were just the most fun to play with.
I'd say my top 3 were:
Insatiable - Fire/Kin Corr - just fantastic mix of abilities
Rubble Rouser - Earth/Earth Dominator - with perma dominate, was a machine
Kavorka - Fire/Dark Corr - melted things about as fast as the fire/kin
"it's a long road to wisdom, but it's a short one to being ignored." The Lumineers
I was always one of those folks that went with "people with powers" rather than supers.
My main character was "Fiendcaller", a Demons/Thermal mastermind that I had a lot of fun with. She just went around in a blouse and jeans, though, rather than a costume.
An infinite number of tries doesn't mean that any one of those tries will succeed. I could flip an infinite number of pennies an infinite number of times and, barring genuine randomness, they will never come up "Waffles".
My favorite was Black Falcon. she started life as a scrapper in several versions (I was looking for a good defense), but the longest scrapper version was Dark Melee/Willpower.
However, she really shown as a Brute, Dark Melee/Electric. I loved to turn on the damage shield, jump into the midst of a mob and attack the boss. By the time I was done with him, all the minions were down and only a Lt or two was left, and they just took a single hit to go down.
Black Falcon was the most fun as a Brute.

The one I remember most was my attempt at making a Shakespearean fool into villain, he was a kinetic/energy brute in an arm armoured suit connected directly to his cybernetics that was shaped like a jester suit

Man I miss CoX. I've been keeping a close eye on this project and once it goes live I'll be there, assuming it is available here in Japan.
Having played since just after release I must have created at least two hundred characters. My altitis was so bad that in eight years I only managed to have one level 50. Some of my favorites were:
- Super Frog LV50 SS/WP Tank "Ohh fly and rotgrub pizza! My favorite!"
- Arctic Guardian - LV44 Ice/ Ice Tank. I remember tanking and trying to herd the mobs and the team didn't think it was a viable tactic anymore. I proved them wrong and we cleared a dozen or so missions with ease.
- Raging Skull SS/Shield Brute. I don't remember his level, but man I loved playing him.
I wish there was a way for me to retrieve my characters information and pics. Sadly I've forgotten many of them.
While I didn't get to play for very long, I did love my two Heroes: Steampunk Sally and Diana Selvaggia.
Steampunk Sally was supposed to have been a gynodroid from a Steampunk alternate universe and on the run from agents trying to deactivate her and figure out why she wasn't content to be a quiet little domestic service bot. I tried to portray her as a klutz with a heart of gold (her gyroscope was a little damaged, you see).
Diana Selvaggia (Last name means "Wild") was trying to be a modern day Robin Hood. She was a lawyer from a family of lawyers who had a soft spot for women in trouble. Yes, she fought with a bow and arrow, and wore green, but it was a green pinstripe suit and a fedora. I'll admit, I wasn't very knowledgeable about comics, so I had never heard of Green Arrow and the Wonder Woman/Artemis connection never occurred to me. I just liked the idea of a pinstripe wearing, bow firing, rich girl making good.
I loved the crap out of them.
Khione, Boreal Princess of Phantoms/The Riveter, Hammer of Liberty/Rosa Amarillo, Sweet Belle with a Six-Shooter
Magical Girl in a Marvel Comics World
I think my favorite character was my first character.....Terra Firm.
Rock/Rock powers. I remember the Rock Armor used to cover the entire body before they changed it.
This guy was the ultimate Tank, especially when he hit 50. He could stand in the middle of any crowd using Rooted and never be taken down. I even changed his Transportation from Jump to Teleport. He would get up granite armor and rooted and then teleport into a middle of a crowd of baddies and draw all their attention. Then the rest of the team would move in and and pick of the edges of the crowd.
I remember one mission (dont remember which one) where my entire team had been killed. I was alone in a room surrounded by baddies. I was using rooted and was running out of stamina..I could only punch one every few minutes. But I held out until the rest of my team came back.
Good times......
I had two characters that I most enjoyed playing:
Fire Lynx - a Fire controller with bubbles. Prior to Issue 3, I remember running around with 12-15 imps out, all bubbled (making them nearly indestructible).
Crabby McCrabcrab - An arachnos crab soldier with a heart of (stolen) gold. I (ahem) switched sides to make her a hero as well.
On Victory my main characters were: Stellar Agent (Inv/SS), Dove (Healing/MC) and towards the end 5800 Kelvin (Fire/Fire blapper).
I miss blasting enemies down with my dark/dark corruptor and ended up teaming with heroes in Paragon City when I went Rogue. I also miss jumping around on my taken and laughing as I see massive Titan-sized creatures get their ass kicked by my petite, Super Strength/Invulnerable Tanker. Especially when they fall down and I'm sure in real life would've crushed her :D
I had MANY! But I'll name my strongest! Born from King's Row's dumps! Michael Gunslinger rose to be a vigilante righting wrongs with his DP power set and his trusty gadgetry! He was a Lv.50 Blaster with DP/Traps. I miss my Maelstrom pistols T_T also my missile launcher! Lets see...I also had a I believe Scrapper with Street Justice/Reflexes, his name was Silver Hero Ranger! I regret not taking pictures of my characters back then, it's just a reminder how stupid I was...But I can't BELIEVE how much time has passed! I was in I THINK...Junior High when I started playing and now I'm in College!
Man I had SO many characters and enjoyed them all.
Dr. Techno Death a mastermind with bots and pain dom
Lemon Snow my ice kin (the name Yellow Snow was deemed inappropriate)
Emulator (me nor my friends knew how to spell Immolator at the time) my fire electric partial blapper, designed with a phoenix in mind with the death and rebirth, because my room mate, Tactical Tiny had vengeance my first max level character in any game I miss her
Taco the Magical Bum my earth energy tanker that a dev gave a yellow title to because they thought his build and name was interesting, so many stuns for days (Triumphant Insult: chance for disorient could be slotted an just about anything, plus energy melee had built in stun chance in everything, I couldn't kill anything but man I never took damage)
Good Vibrations my sonic sonic defender
Narcolepsy my psychic blapper that made people sleep (there was a proc that gave me a heal when I put people to sleep)
And that is just the tip a lot of times I would make a chara get them to 20 then go nah don;t like that mesh. CoH/Cov was my first MMO and I am still irked that I didn't have internet when it was going out
Oh man. I just found a huge image with screen grabs of all my dudes. Most were just character ideas I didn't play much of. Nonetheless. Grabbed these before CoH went offline.

It's the same stance as the folks on either side of him. But because it's Captin Awesome Stance, it's awesome!
"The illusion which exalts us is dearer to us than ten thousand truths." - Pushkin
"One piece of flair is all I need." - Sister Silicon
When I played my most favorite character to play was my robotic Mastermind. I would love sending in the boys to thump on the enemies and to be able to stand back and watch. Occasionally throwing a heal or buff on my minions. ah good times eh.
My early years with COX I went by Gabriel (Gabby) Alexander. She was a level 50 Energy Blaster/Energy Manipulation, Flight, Force of Will. During that time I created Alexander Corporation (Alexcorps), Alexander Global, and united a family "Alexander Family" This was all on Virtue, as I love RP. I was never big on trying out Alts. Once I was in love I was stuck. I truly felt apart of the world, even though I tried stay as far from the Actual game lore as I could. I didn't disregard the lore, I simply wanted to create my own path. It was almost like I was living two different lives. I valued my game life almost as much as my RL. That may sound crazy, but I manged both very well....well for awhile. Once my computer had a massive heart attack, the delicate world in game I was building collapsed in my absence I decided to move on. In my return I tried to rebuild but without the Leadership control of my SG, I truly had to move on.
My second run (Virtue) I made a Praetorian Nadia Luma, a 50 Brute Invinc/Invul.I decide to take a lesser role and be lead. It was a relief and the most fun I've had. I like to believe there is still more stories to tell and She is continuing to live out her life even after COX (Her retirement.) Right now I feel as if part of me is missing. No other game world has been able to fill the void COX left behind, which is why most of us are missing our old toons. At least for me my toons weren't just game avatars but a extension of me...They were me.
COT has their work cut out for them. It think it's going to be difficult to recreate that magic, and that hold. Cox had so many different things that made it great for different reasons for so many people. At the end I cared less about the missions and the fighting.
One thing I have to lement, is talking to my friend who was in a big RP guild... I did not RP. I actually joined when it went free to play, and as you can see above was obsessed with character creation. (I am in every game. It's a sickness.)
So, while my mains were Extraman, Honey Badger, Canadian Robot, and Bullfrog(whom I failed to screencap!)... I was just doing solo runs of that first area dungeon and city sectors. I really, really, really loved it. However, hearing all the fun and adventures he had with his RP group... Man. Did I ever miss out on the best part of CoH. :(
The Captain was an Electricity/Blaster, My fav villain was Sister Sinister, a Blood Widow. God do I miss those days!
There are so many characters I miss. Some aren't even mine. My mains are listed below in my sig. Most people knew me by these characters.
PB is sorely missed, because I know it will be some time before they will be able to implement a Plant/ power set in COT. That was one of the first characters that leveled effortlessly and I never had to tweak very much. I got the build right on the first try.
Hitomi Ito, my MA/WP was a ton of fun. I loaded down Crane with perhaps a bit too much KB for the sheer satisfaction of the using it as a final blow, launching baddies into LEO. Combine that with WP's surviveability and it was an amazing combination.
Char Cat and Mystic Flare sated my appetite for destruction by setting everything on fire. Char Cat set herself on fire as a fire/fire scrapper and waded into mobs to do some incredible damage (I think with crits I could spike to nearly 3k in a few seconds) Flare was a bit more tame she called on fire blast and fire rain to set whole rooms on fire. I colored the rain red and blue, it was pretty. Then she had Mental manipulation for a mix of exotic psy damage.
Pulse Kat my energy weapon user I regret not playing more as I never got her to 50. The list goes on.
Second Chance: https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/CityOfTitans/SecondChance/
Dev Tracker: http://cityoftitans.com/forum/fixing-dev-digest
Dev Comments: https://cityoftitans.com/forum/dev-comments
My first, and favourite, characters were two sisters.
Nadira, a dark/psy defender (a lovely combination that could span the range from healer to blaster to controller)
and Cath, a claws/dark scrapper (fun to play because it was kind of difficult, especially before the changes to toggle powers)
Their back story was being from a family of european nobility with a bit of a curse problem. Attempts to turn to dark powers to
get healthy children led to daughters who were a bit too inhuman for polite upper class society. They ended up in New York and
got caught up in the devastation of that city by the Rikti. The refugee camps did not take too kindly to those who were clearly not
human and things got a bit out of hand after that.
There was also Kyan, a storm/dark defender (who had a hard time finding groups unless other players realised how powerful storm
defenders really were as long there were some corners to pin enemies in and the group didn't mind a little mayhem)
She of course was a Sidhe. Benevolent or malevolent whatever she felt like at any given moment, and always an agent of chaos...
I had severe altitis. Sometimes I just look through a folder of screengrabs.
My favorites/most used are in my sig. Lady was my badge queen. I also had Teenager From Mars: a green Emp/Psi in Converse who never. stopped. talking. Had some characters that were made for duoing with my SO/SG mates. Favorites of those being my energy/invul brute paired with a kin/dark def and ice/cold troller - no planned synergy as they were just sets we each just had been wanting to play but they wound up meshing so well and were a ton of fun (although when played with some thoughtfulness there weren't really *bad* team combos in CoH I think). The only downside was having to wait until all three of us could be on at the same time.
Little Running Fox was as small as they come, dark/regen scrapper. Took SS and made use of Shadow Maul/Sands of Mu as often as I could. This one was started as a joke/troll at my SO but I ended up loving her so I guess the joke was on me.
My biggest regret was waiting until the shutdown was announced to roll a fire/fire brute - Jinan. What an absolute ball of destruction and FUN she was. Can't believe I robbed myself of years of that.
TINK SMASH
DBG Radio
I remember my character
Banshee (I think that was the name, I might have spelled it diffrently since it was taken)
anyway, it was a female villian using Sonic powers :D It was so awesome, used skull motives and everything.
Plauge and death... Let that come
I had the mighty Irish Flag back when the game first came out. He was an Invulnerability tank and super strength. Awesome character.
WitchArc was an NRG/Dark corr; Razorsong was a DB/WP brute. Those were my 2 major mains, but I had a truckload of others...*sigh* And was just starting to get into the new Bio sets when they murdered us.
I am not an altoholic! I can stop whenever I want. No, really...
I had dozens of toons, and I have honestly probably forgot some of them. I was filling up all my spaces on nearly every server, and have no idea which ones were on which server.
In an old folder, I have pics saved of the following toons:
1. Admiral Endorpho
- Kind of a joke toon, who probably started off with the random costume maker and got tweaked once it gave me an idea. He was a starship medic who took control of the ship through mutiny, but was later stranded on Earth. I know he had some healing powers and a hook hand.
2. African Violet
- Martial artist with purple clothes. Meh.
3. All-Inclusive Girl
- Early experiment with the costume maker to test the limits of how over-the-top sexy I could make a toon. I confess to having a bit of a laugh when I named her, so she remained a favorite that I never deleted, but I didn't really play her much.
4. Almond Chicken
- When I first bought the game, a buddy of mine in town also played. He made a toon he named after some kind of Chinese-American take out dish, but I cannot recall what it was. I made a toon I ran as his sidekick (purely in a role-play sense), and named him Almond Chicken. I was kind of proud of the costume and kept him around. I believe he was an archery hero.
5. Alpha Virgo
- This was an archery hero I made up who sported a white and light blue costume. I don't recall having an elaborate backstory, but I envisioned her as a younger hero, realistic when it came to fighting crime, but highly innocent in demeanor.
6. Ambassador Elysius
- This was the concept I used with that weird alien floaty class (I don't remember what they were called now). I imagined them as angelic beings and Ambassador Elysius was just that - a superheroic twist on a being from a divine plane of existence, an ambassador to our world from a world of perfect good.
7. American Eagle
- This was an eagle-headed super-patriot type. He flew through the zones in his red, white, and blue costume with his eagle wings. Since political conservatives tend to be more expressive about their patriotism, I thought it might be interesting to play him as one (especially because I am not conservative), and that led me to the idea that he might also be a big 2nd Amendment guy, so his offense power was a big rifle.
8. Angus Gold
- This was a basic, two-gun wielding steampunk robot, who started off as me just playing around with a few new costume parts I had available and turned into a pretty cool-looking toon.
9. Animal Commander Rex
- Ultra-boorish, full of himself commander of animal pets. Unlike other animal-oriented heroes, Rex had little regard for the animals that served him, and never thought twice about having one jump in front of a bullet for him. Yes, I envisioned him as someone who believed he was a hero, but it was intended to be apparent to everyone else that he was a pretty despicable person.
10. Aquacommando Quinn (CoV)
- I made this guy using the Arachnos soldier class, kind of experimenting with colors. One of the colors combos made me think of an aquatic commando, so I went with it.
11. Asimov Agent 1
- Alien agent on planet Earth. I designed the costume with that buddy of mine who also played. He used the identical costume and colors and called himself Asimov Agent 2. We ran missions together a couple of times, but he stopped playing pretty early on.
12. Automatic Samsa
- At the time I made this guy, I was reading a cool comic called Automatic Kafka. I riffed on the name and changed the last part to Samsa after Gregor Samsa, the main character in Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis. He was an insectoid claws fighter.
I have a bunch more, but that pretty much covers the ones I still have that started with "A".
OK. Some more...
13. Barksdale (CoV)
- I was into season one of the Wire at the time I made this guy, who was just a two-gun toting criminal in a suit. I forget what his first name was, but I imagined him as a two-dimensional cousin of Avon Barksdale The only cool thing I did with him visually was put a red on white lapel logo of the globe on his dark jacket. There was no real reason for that beyond it looking cool.
14. Black Bell
- This toon was born from me playing around with the logos in the costume maker. I saw one had a bell and wondered what kind of hero or villain would sport such a thing. I made up Black Bell, gave her classy looking silver hair and sonic powers and let her loose.
15. Blood Brother (CoV)
- I was playing around with the newer hydro power set when I realized I could change the color of the water. Trying out a few different colors, an idea came to me when I hit dark red - this looked like BLOOD! So, I made up Blood Brother (I think that was his name), whose powers were about the creation and manipulation of massive quantities of blood. Yeah, I know the concept was super-gross, but in my defense I did acknowledge that by making him a villain.
16. Blue Diamond
- An old neighbor and I used to goof around with 1st edition Champions, the pencil and paper RPG, when we were kids. One of his characters was Blue Diamond (neither of us had any idea there was an old Marvel character that had used that name). Many years later when making toons for CoH, I re-imagined that old character with a frosty diamond sword.
17. Brimstone Bat (CoV)
- I had the idea for the name many years before I played CoH. Eventually, I tried out the idea in the game and he was pretty scary looking. I don't recall his power set, but he flew with bat wings and had a diabolical presence to him.
18. CairseOKtulla
- This was another example of playing with the costume maker and then patching a concept onto something that looked cool. A pirate hat, fangs, goggles, a cigar, an octopus logo on a furry chest, a ripped up kilt, a machine gun, and motorcycle boots. The name "CairseOKtulla" was meant to suggest part of his secret origin, a Curse of Cthulhu.
19. Captain Hornet
- One of my old player characters from a Champions campaign I ran in my early 20s. He's a blue collar good guy with gadgets representing hornet powers (electrical blasts). With so many toons, I only had a couple ever max out in levels - Captain Hornet was one of the two.
20. Cherry Pi
- Nerd girl in a cherry red costume with the pi symbol logo. I don't even remember her powers.
21. Chitrikaya
- I played around with some of the textures and really liked the cheetah spots. I could easily make a costume I liked but struggled with a concept. I googled the word "cheetah" and found that the word is derived from a sanskrit word, chitrikaya. That suggested a well-trained expert with access to ancient knowledge. I made him, gave him superspeed and claws and ran him around as a dangerous, silent type of hero.
22. Citizen Corn
- He was a corn on the cob golem who beat up criminals with a shovel. A white afro was intended to make his head look liked popped corn, and his body used a rocky texture, but colored light yellow. I wish I would have copied down his backstory. As I recall, it was one of the funnier ones I wrote.
23. The Conch
- An old NPC from my Champions campaign, the Conch never really fit well into CoH until they introduced shields. While I couldn't really get one to look like a seashell, I could make one with a conch shell logo on it. He was a street level blue collar guy who had a magic suit of seashells that gave him super strength and let him breathe underwater (the latter part of course had no role in CoH, just in his back story).
24. Crimson Kodiak (CoV)
- Highly influenced by Ursa Major, the Marvel Comics character, I gave this guy a different origin - he was an actual werebear who had been captured and conditioned by the KGB and served them as an operative. In the post-Soviet era, he longed to return his country back to Soviet-style rule.
- Not sure if I want to cover the rest. I just counted and there are 59 more toons beyond the 24 I just listed. Maybe I will write up more later if I am bored.
I think for me designing the looks was just as much fun as the game play and some of my favorites are for the design more than the adventures they faced.
Warhead - one of my first was a force blaster, his helmet was slightly reminiscent of the Rocketeer's although I had a silver and blue color scheme. I did have one of my costumes for him kind of reflect the Rocketeer with the flight jacket
Fallout 1 - of course was my radiation/healing defender. He had a nice retro radiation suit look.
Temptress - Mind Control/Empathy controller. She was very sassy and I really liked to role play her.
Cricket - my first scrapper. She was a 19 year old who kicked butt. Started with a normal clothes style but then had a version of the insect armor shirt with the helmet with the bug eyes.
Prism - Electrical power set. Mostly just loved his costume. His back story was that he had a solar powered costume that generated the electrical powers. I love the blend affect for costumes and for this one had a rainbow suit starting red at his head and transitioning to purple at the boots.
Chloro-Phyllis - I believe she was my first villain. Plant controller. Green skin, vine and leaf outfit.
Grave Robber - Mastermind zombie controller. His story was he died and was buried in a cemetery near a chemical plant where, toxins in the water brought him back to life. His return to the living was met with revulsion instead of happiness and he turned bitter. Using his powers more out of rage than personal gain.
I'm right there with you, Fallout. By the way, I dig those characters of yours, especially Chloro-Phyllis. If I ever run pencil and paper superhero rpgs again, I am absolutely stealing that idea.
That said, I am enjoying typing comments about my old toons, so bear with me while I entertain myself with more descriptions of CoX characters of days gone by....
25. Dire Roach
- Bug eyes, antennae, wearing only dark blue briefs, with a scarab tattoo on his chest and tribal tattoos around his legs, this kopesh-wielding hero could exude an repulsive stink aura (dark power set, I think).
26. Doc Chevalier
- The whole time I played this character, one of my favorites, I was unaware of the real-life horrendous dictator that went by this name. I probably remembered the name subconsciously from some old news report and thought I created a new name when I made him up. This guy was a dual blades musketeer. His outfit was white with pink trim (magicians jacket or something) and a blue cape with a high collar. He was honestly my favorite in terms of how his costume looked, and the way the dual blades action was animated. It still embarrasses me, though that I played him for SO long without realizing the horrible name choice I had made.
27. Doc Vegas
- This guy was all about the flash! He was bright lights and cheesy entertainment personified. He had kind of a white Elvis jumpsuit, huge sunglasses and a big pornstache. He had some mesmerism and dazzle powers, as I recall.
28. Dolphin Girl
- This was probably the oldest toon I had that didn't get deleted. I gave her some sonic powers and superleap and a costume that looked sort of dolphin-like. As I recall, her backstory involved her being a citizen of fabled Underwateropolis.
29. Dr. Unnatural (CoV)
- This guy gave you the creeps. He had the balding comb-over hair, a surgeon's mask, and a scientist's lab jacket over an otherwise bare torso. It gave one the uncomfortable impression of seeing a creepy uncle with not enough clothes on. I think I gave him a freeze gun or something like that for powers.
30. Enigmagogue
- Energy sword and energy shield. His costume was a flat grey with a giant question mark logo, high collar blue cape. He had a full mask with dark spots where the eyes were. I don't remember more than that. I think his backstory was as much an enigma to me as it was to his foes. I liked that name, though.
31. Evil Abe (CoV)
- The evil vampire clone of Abraham Lincoln. My concept was simple, goofy, and creepy all at once. He is only one of two characters I ever maxed out in levels. As I recall, I had him take that shark guy (Mako!) as a patron, so I had a weird summon shark power.
32. Fecal Master
- Sorry for the disgusting concept. It did come about in a weird way, though. I HATED the way the stone armor power was animated, covering up your costume with big brown rocks. I spent a lot of time on my costumes and didn't want them covered up every time I used the power. One day, I was goofing with the costume maker and was trying to think of what kind of character wouldn't be messed up by the stone armor. I looked at the armor over and over again, wondering if maybe there was a different way to interpret its appearance, when this disgusting idea came to mind. The juvenile brain in me was delighted and I let it take charge. Fecal Master (a play on the phrase fecal matter), could summon up armor of petrified crud. I even gave him a gas mask and I think a green smoky aura to represent him smelling really bad. I promise not to try to remake him in City of Titans.
33. Franken-Cop
- Simple concept: Frankenstein monster is a cop. I gave him tattered pants and sleeves, but otherwise he is Frankenstein's monster in a police uniform. I think he was a super-strength character.
34. Galacta-Cop
- Yes, I liked that "Cop" suffix enough to use it twice. Like the last toon, this one also had a simple concept - he was exactly what he sounded like, a galactic cop. The costume, though, was very different. I always liked the look of characters with starfield costumes, like Star Boy from the Legion of Super-Heroes or Troia from the Teen Titans. I put Galacta-Cop in a full black costume with a dot design that I colored white, intending to simulate that look as closely as I could. He had light yellow skin, a black haircut, black domino mask, big yellow boots, gloves, and armored shoulder gear.
35. Gentleman Enigma
- This guy came about through experimentation with the costume maker. I put on the wedding tuxedo, colored it light blue with matte black trim, a white, faceless mask, matching blue top hat and fought criminals with a hatchet. I believe his backstory had him cast as the vengeful ghost of a groom who had died in a mob hit on his wedding, kind of a riff on Uma Thurman's origin from Kill Bill. Did I make this guy up before Kill Bill came out? I do not remember.
36. The Golden Eel (CoV)
- I am a big fan of the band Ween. My favorite album of theirs was The Mollusk, which included a song called The Golden Eel. I remember the lyrics giving me the creepy feeling of encountering something from another world beyond understanding, a bit like an H.P. Lovecraft story. Since I was also a big CoX fan, I made a character who I wanted to feel otherworldly. He looked a bit like a mysterious martial arts villain with psychadelic gold pants. I believe he had creepy mental powers.
37. Golden Gloves Unterdark
- I got the boxing gloves costume piece and didn't know what to do with it. After a bit of experimenting, I settled on a gray-skinned guy with steampunk goggles and golden boxing gloves. I imagined him to be from some kind of subterranean society, that for whatever reason had boxing as a sport. He was the golden gloves boxing champ from the Unterdark. I didn't really take it further than that, so I can't say for sure why he was running around in Paragon.
38. Grave Madeline Usher
- An older friend of mine loved the idea of City of Heroes, but he lacked the coordination to play the game on his own. One time while visiting me, Lou and I came up with an idea: he would design a character and I would just be his hands on the keyboard, with him making the calls about which missions to take, who to talk to, who to attack next, etc. Lou's character was Grave Madeline Usher, a character from Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. He imagined her gaining immortality and darkness powers and operating many years later as a hero in Paragon City. In addition to the game being gone, my old friend Lou has since passed. It was a good time playing his character with him back in those days.
39. Gutterfly (CoV)
- An angry punk rock fairy with butterfly wings.
40. H2Ogre (CoV)
- This was a toon designed to use the water control power set. He was basically what he sounds like - a big rough looking ogre-type dude who could control water. A funny aside - I had been reading reprinted old trades of Aquaman comics from the 60s. The spy craze of the day was reflected in a recurring villain organization that Aquaman had to face. The group's name was O.G.R.E. I half-imagined my H2Ogre character to be an operative of that group, although I never actually wrote him up that way.
41. Heliocentrist (CoV)
- I wanted to finally make a fire control character, but I felt like all the types of characters associated with those looked pretty similar, and I wanted something different. I settled on a long-haired blonde guy with a jet-black costume (supposed to indicate a burnt, charred substance). The name was kind of a joke, since it means someone who believes the sun is at the center (which it IS), so it was kind of a fancy way of stating the obvious. I imagined him as belonging to some kind of nihilistic cult that worshiped the sun, not as a giver of life, but for its potential as a source of destruction.
42. Hobotech
- His name was an obvious riff on the name Robotech. I imagined him a homeless guy who had an uncanny ability to transform discarded junk into amazing technology. He had a rifle and the traps for power sets. He is one of the few CoX characters I actually recreated in my Champions Online account.
43. Hugo Gigawatt (CoV)
- This was a really, big, bulky guy adorned in electricity-manipulating armor. I loved his name and I did a better than average job with his costume, from my perspective.
44. Ichabod Zsamsza
- He was a result of playing around in the costume maker and landing on something I really liked at the time. He came out with kind of a gothic/steampunkish look and I made him a dual blades character, utilizing thin rapiers. I didn't play him all that often, being less enthused about the concept after the initial fascination.
45. Iron Lion of Zion
- Trying to find something to do with the lion head costume part, I ended up making a toon as a salute to the old Bob Marley song Iron Lion Zion. I made him a big, bulky strong guy with a lion head and sporting Jamaican colors and a cape. I didn't make up any elaborate backstory for him. He's another one I have recreated in Champions Online.
46. Johnny Jigoku (CoV)
- This character was a flying demon in samurai armor. He was another dual blades character, wielding a katana and another smaller blade.
47. John Shank (CoV)
- Another friend, Wade, made this toon on my account based on his old Champions (pen and paper) character. Wade actually played this toon using my account on my computer. Appearance-wise, he was just an old man in a boring gray suit. He was the owner of an occult bookstore and a necromancer. He was a mastermind utilizing undead pets. I had to reign him in one time when using my account, he mischievously named all his undead pets with the names of different religious figures in kind of a trolling gesture. I worried he was going to get my account banned or punished in some way for his antics, so I made him change the names to something still obnoxious, but less outright blasphemous.
48. Kid Devilhead (CoV)
- This costume was pretty outrageous. He was a skinny teenage looking kid with short, spiky blond hair, a permanent crazy look on his face, smoking a cigar, wearing a red top with a devil-head logo, red briefs over bare legs, black work boots, and a pitchfork. I don't recall at all what he could do, but I assume if he had a pitchfork, he probably jabbed it at his enemies.
Amerikatt, "The Imp of Impervium" and "World's Mightiest Moggie", was a non-shapeshifting Kheldian Peacebringer who had fully IO'd healing powers (my guildies even gave me their spare Numina's Convalescence IOs, which really helped once AK got the AoE heal from the post-50 auxiliary advancement system).
One of my favorite powers was the one which blinded the Naughty Spawns around AK and her teamies. It was hilarious to see them staggering around (with a glowing nimbus around their heads), an emote saying "Amerikatt sneezes" and a /say "'scuse me!"
The Peacebringer AT was the perfect one for AK, as her backstory was that her mother, while pregnant, became the hostess for a Kheldian. The Kheldian's cosmic energies mutated the developing kitten, giving her "powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal cats!"

No problem with you using Chloro-Phyllis. You ideas are very creative. I just downloaded Paragon Chat and have been creating my old toons and trying some new. I wanted to use the sci-fi retro pieces for a character named Captain Photon. He would be a tv character from the early 50's. I would have that a lightning bolt from a weirdly charged electrical storms strikes the antennae of a local tv station broadcasting his show, creating a solid energy form of the character. I would do him all in gray scale so he looked like his black and white tv image.

I just saw the latest update and it got me thinking about all my old characters from my 8 year career with CoH...
Ahunit illusion/empathy controller
Kikiri dark/regeneration scrapper
Granito stone/stone tanker
Kinfire fire/kinetics controller
Pain Gang thugs/pain mastermind
Legendary Pain katana/regeneration scrapper
Almighty Pain willpower/strength tanker
I had many more from the later days when I had farming down but those were the ones I had the most memories with. PM if you recognize any names!
Task Forces and PvP
CoH vet from Easter 2004 to shutdown
Been in scrapperlock since 2012
I didn't get to max on many characters due to my crippling altoholicism, but the ones I did were extremely fun.
Transient Spark - my Super Strength/Shield Brute with his massive combo to instantly nuke a group from 30 meters away with shield charge, footstomp, and throwing a rock for good measure. (eventually Transient became my name in every game due to Transient Spark, and Transient eventually became Variant)
Poisoned Zombie (the most original of names) - my Poison/Necromancy Mastermind which I used to solo basically everything including AVs.
Hell's Storm (again with the originality) - my Fire/Storm (storm/fire?) controller who made a bunch of imps, and gave them invisibility and then they promptly died. (he was fun, but never that great)
I had about 121078694325 other characters but I cannot remember them all. Basically every combination of powers was made at one point or another, most didn't get past level 20.
It took me so long to get my first 50. Luckily I met up with some fun people who helped me level my first toon. It was a dark/scrapper. His name was XxDark SpikexX He was cool but not too great in PVP. I used him for farming. After helping me level I would often join those same ppl in helping others level and it was very fun and casual just hanging out going from mob to mob.

I was "dumb" enough to run a Fire Controller as my first serious "main" character in CoH. :)
Don't get me wrong - she was probably my all-time favorite character to play beyond the dozens of other alts I rolled up. No, the "dumb" part was that it took me something like 9 months to get her to 50 because of a combination of not running with a solid group of in-game friends at the beginning (those came later after years of playing) and the fact that at the beginning of the game it was excruciatingly difficult to solo a Controller without all the updates to the game that made it so much easier by the time CoH was shutdown.
Basically I played like one of the hardest builds to solo during the point in the game when it was hardest to solo with almost -any- build... and I still loved the game. ;)

Great video.
I like to take your ideas and supersize them. This isn't criticism, it is flattery. I come with nothing but good will and a spirit of team-building. If you take what I write any other way, that is probably just because I wasn't very clear.
I had many characters but my main was an invuln/ice melee tanker named Arctic Quasar. I came up with the name before I made the character and didn't know that ice melee sucked so bad at the start of CoH. I had a katana/SR scappper named Stonejaguar I loved playing as well. The only villain I truly loved playing was my stone armor brute. I cant remember what attack powerset he had. His name was Stonehemoth. I love that name. All 3 I plan to reuse with CoT.
[s]RIP City of Heroes[/s]
@stonejaguar on Excelsior server
Spitter Swallow was tech blaster cyborg specializing in stealth flight.
A scrapper who fought with claws and dressed in pink was named Chun Li, I think.
Many other toons whom I have forgotten.
I had Felpyre. He went through a few different versions. He started as a Hero with Fire Melee and shadow defense. Had some fun but then I rebuild him. Now he was a Blaster with Fire and Shadow again. Finally when Going Rogue came out, I created his final iteration. A mastermind using demon summoning and dark miasma.
He started in Nova Praetoria, and eventually became a Hero. Although I didn't get very far with him. He was the character that created the story of the Felpyres. The story that their power comes from the signature 4 horned helm that was passed down from one Felpyre to the next. The power's morphed for the wearer and I even created a training where you had to fight previous versions. Even ancient versions that would've come long before the game.
I made a fire/fire scrapper and I wanted to name it Scirocco because of the association with a hot desert wind. That name was taken, so i chose Red Scirocco instead. It was my favorite character to play (well that and my Sonic/Sonic Corrupter Bloody Mandragora). I remember running some missions with a fire tank whose name escapes me now, but we had so much fun.
And then, after playing the game for a week, I realized why the name Scirocco was taken! Lol. For the rest of my time in game I felt bad that I shared a name with one of the Iconic characters.

That's kind of funny. As I recall the name filter thing just said something like "name unavailable" but I guess it never made any distinction whether it was because it was taken by another player or whether it was reserved for one of the main named NPCs. I suppose it was like you wanted to play a DC-based game and couldn't figure out why you couldn't play a character named "Superman". ;)
It actually makes me wonder if the main CoT NPC names will be off limits to us even with "global naming" system that's supposed to allow us great freedom in that area.

I had too many toons to count; however, I had 2 that I played exclusively. My main was my hero tank, Quantum Shock (who is in my picture), and my second main was Dragon Maiden, a Brute. I plan on playing those again in CoT. One of my funnest toons to play was dual pistol wielding Calamity Jane! I'm stoke that this one is getting so close. I long to come home to playing a Super Hero game again. I tried Champions and dump that one quick. CoX was my very first MMO as I started playing it in 2005 until the end. I look forward to playing a hero again and villain (if they are going to allow it).
Yes, they will allow it: Villains will be available at launch.

Were you on Triumph. Seems like I remember a crazy duelist Calamity Jane near the sunset times.
Wow that's great. I hate to appear a bit ignorant to exactly what they've planned for the game. RL is so in my face that it's a bit difficult for me to stay focused on much outside of what I'm currently involved in. Thanks again Cyclops!
No, I played on Freedom, but you described her to a 'T' though! I think the one power tickled me the most was Hail of Bullets. When I fired that off and watch the enemies bounce up and down after being knocked down I'd laugh hysterically because it was the funniest thing to see. And the animation of firing it was awesome as it was funny to watch.

You know, based on reading this thread and a host of others I'm grateful to be around people like we had in CoH/CoV. After the game was closed down, I found myself in SWTOR, GW2 (yeah I tried it out and found out quickly is was nothing more than a P2W money grabbing game.), Blade & Soul, Neverwinter, and a few of WG's games. The communities there for the most part were nothing more than cesspools, especially in-game and the forums. CoH/CoV, though had some trolls and miscreants (though few and far between), the community there were respectful, helpful, willing to teach, fun and engaging to be around. I certainly hope that City of Titans will emulate what we had in CoH/CoV in that respect.
I'm surprised I haven't posted in this thread previously. I miss my namesake Energy/Energy Blapper the most. He wasn't my first character, nor my original global handle, but he was what clicked the most for me. I originally named my subsequent Cobalts as 'Cobalt Something' where the Something was a synonym for blue, like Cobalt Aquaean/Cerulean/Cyanean/etc. But it became ultimately unsustainable after a half dozen alts. So I changed the naming convention to 'Cobalt A-something' where the A word was associated with that iteration's powers or concept in some way, such as my Electric Melee/Shield Defense scrapper named Cobalt Aspisean (the Aspis being a type of shield). The largest stretch for that was a joke Dark Blast/Time Manipulation character named CobalT ARDISean which I made look like blue-skinned Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. I actually liked the powerset combination so much that I completely changed the character later on, name and all, to my only female character named Dark Ages. I'm very proud of how her costume turned out as I generally had a limited palette to work with in regards to my Cobalts.

I had a character in every slot, on every server, with bought ones on Virtue that was like the 30s or something. Many of them were to snag names and such I might go back to play, or concepts I really liked the name for. Many were RP characters that I didn't find a home for until I wandered onto Virtue. One of them I wish to revisit is my original Ninja Blade/Energy Aura stalker, Desert Wasp. He was made as a counterpart to a scrapper I named Twilight Mantis, but as evovled into something more. Also, I am excited to perhaps get a few versions of my namesake in the game, as CoH just barely missed the mark for the true realization of them.
My first level 50, and first character ever made on CoH was a claws/regen scrapper named Lightning Shock. Why I named a claws/regen scrapper something that had nothing to do with his powers, I’ll never know, but I did love that character

I had more than few. I had around 200 toons, but I only got to play a handful of them.
Wylddfyre- Shane Warner, my fire/fire blaster. Former Outcast turned reluctant hero. Found one of the longest run sgs I was apart of.
Blood Magus Redcrow- A fae from the Courts, finding the lost magic of blood. Or iginally, a Kin/Dark Fender. Rerolled as a Dark/Water I think.
Winter's Executioner- Cajun gunslinger trying to atone for a life spent as an assassin. DP/Ice, I believe.
Mystic Battery= Elec/Dark Brute, I think. didn't get to play him much, but was kinda my take on Ghost Rider. also, I loved his name.
There's some hero n ames I don't remember, but I remember the characters. All in All, I had a lot of fun with those characters.
I had 40+ characters, most of whom I got to level 50 with at least the base Incarnate abilities. Two characters I had leveled up to the maximum Incarnate capabilities available by the game's end.
Randall Grey was my first, a Stone/Super Strength Tanker who I eventually eschewed Granite with because the combined effects of the rest of his armor was just so much better to work with. It made fighting Lord Recluse a little more difficult (and a pain for the people who just wanted to crank out a victory), but when we were able to switch out builds, I could oblige if need be.
Kipland Durj was my second, a Martial Arts/Invulnerability Scrapper. This character probably taught me the most about CoH's numbers. Invulnerability was a set that, for a long time, the devs didn't really get right. Some would argue they still didn't get it right by the time the game ended, but I spent a long time trying to patch the big hole put into Invulnerability's Defense by its Mez resisting power, Unyielding, until the devs finally removed the hole altogether. Because of the work I kept putting into the character, I got a real appreciation for both Defense and Resistance, got to understand how neither one was better than the other and they needed each other in order for characters that rely on them to survive.
Cory Simmons was my first blaster. This was the character that taught me that sometimes concept can get in the way of having fun... Or you can really pay attention to how your character performs and figure out how to make it fun. At first, I would slowly chip away at enemies with this Fire/Ice blaster, not really understanding the mechanics I was working with. Finally, it dawned on me what I should be doing, and started to focus more and more damage into my primary while boosting the secondary effects of my secondaries... Because /Ice was very useful for hindering the mobility of enemies if used right and Fire/ was a fantastic damage output.
Nester Durj, Kipland's brother, was my first Defender. I made him based on the idea that if I was going to make demands on a healer, I better damn well know how to do it myself. It was a good philosophy, as there were often times I would correct various Empathy Defenders, reminding them of the value of various powers. Some people still tried to convince me to use Absorb Pain, but in the end I never found a use for it, the other healing powers worked so much better and recharged quickly enough to not need it. Eventually, this was the character that would show me if I needed to upgrade my computer, as the particle effects you encountered when following the Tank with your Healing Aura on auto is probably one of the best tests a graphics card will ever endure. When the Invention system came along, Nester finally got to be offensive, as Radiation blasting wasn't particularly powerful, but with the right IOs, it could become scary effective at making enemies melt, even at half the damage output of a Blaster!
Most of the rest of my characters, including my forum namesake, were mostly experimenting with powerset combinations after that. Almost none of my characters ever really had "heroic" names, instead running around as their civilian identities. Maybe a few, such as Ashen Roast or Blizzard Front, a Fire Tanker and Ice Blaster respectively, would have a code name, but I always found it easier to get through character creation with the real character names. Roland Grey was a Trick Arrow/Archery Defender, Charlene Daring-Grey (Randall's wife) became my first Kheldian, a Peacebringer. Kip and Nester's father, Ezekiel Durj, became my first Warshade. A gaggle of my characters were representations of friends and family of mine, each one with powersets I felt were fitting for them, but one was actually requested. Kodiak Ironsights (Kodiak because that was his stage name, Ironsights because it was a character concept I'd been toying with, and neither alone because both were already taken by other players) had a really simple premise: "I want to have two guns... And jump real high." Once Pistols came out as a powerset, I made the character and, yes, he got Leap as his travel power.
I remember making multiple email accounts so I could have more than two heroes since I couldn't afford a subscription. Unfortunately, this meant that my characters were split over like 4 accounts, but they were all memorable.
First, the good ones. Naming your heroes gets hard when every good concept is taken. My first ever 50 was an Electric/Dark blaster named Dark Matter Storm. His story was that he was exposed to dark matter and gained new powers and an unstable form, forcing him to wear a Crey Tech armored suit. Then there was Grey Wasp, an Electric Melee/Shield Tank who also worked for Crey and stole a prototype of DMS's suit. His armor was more chunky and prone to unstable power build-up that led to involuntary electric discharge. I remember Grey Wasp for the one time I took him monster hunting and I joined with a random GM hunter team that grew to like 3 or 4 teams and we just destroyed every giant monster that was spawned that we could find. He got probably 11 giant monster badges out of that run.
The last of my good heroes were a set of 4, each representing a different season and suit from a deck of 54 cards. They were Jack of Autumn, Jack of Spring, Jack of Winter, and Jack of Summer, where Jack was their rank and the seasons represented a different specialization or department they worked within. The Idea was that they were part of a super group called the Four Suits and they were relatively high ranking lieutenants.
Winter was an ex CIA Martial Arts/Willpower scrapper with the spade as his symbol. Autumn was a 17-year-old kid possessed by a demon of mischief. He was an Archery/Trick Arrow Defender with the Diamond as his symbol. Summer is an ex-knight of Camelot who found a magic sword named Clarent that was similar to Excalibur, except it was made of bronze colored metal and sent him hundreds of years into the future to Paragon City. He was a Sword/Invulnerability tank with the Club as his symbol. Finally, Spring was an immortal master swordsman who has fought thousands of battles throughout history and never seems to age or die. He was a Dual Blades/Regen scrapper who fought with a different style sword in each hand, such as a long sword and khopesh combo, and had the heart as his symbol.
Now for the bad ones. Hoo boy these guys were awful, to the point where one or two of them are running jokes in my family. The first ever character I made is also the most infamously awful, and it's why my name is what it is. Glabor was an all ice controller, but that wasn't the bad part. The worst part was his design. First of all he was huge, as in he used that one body type that made your character the hulk, which didn't really fit his squishy nature at all. The next thing you'd probably notice about him was his blue skin. Y'know, because ice. His first costume was just one of the rotten faces and zombie shorts and nothing else. I remember my dad laughed so hard at my ugly mug and even I had to admit it was god awful. Many an Icon visit was made before I got anything even remotely close to an ok costume. One other toon I thought of was the embodiment of edgy middle school goth poetry, but I only got the chance to fix his concept after the game shut down and Paragon Chat and the character creator came out.
Here's to better characters in this new city in the years to come, and who knows? Maybe Glabor will make his triumphant return with a much less ugly costume...

Why wait? Wanna reminisce in Paragon City again? Then do so, as we can once again. If you weren't aware, Paragon City is open once again. Titannetwork has it open for us to enjoy once again. You can make your characters once again and explore every inch of Paragon. We have all the travel powers; however, none of the combat powers. So, if you're interested in see your old haunts again, here's what you must do.
1. Go to www.cohtitan.com
2. If you've never signed up, then click on the login in the upper right.
3. Sign up and do what it asks to complete the sign-in process.
4. After that, return back to the main page and click on titan forums.
5. Click on Announcements under Paragon Chat Section.
6. Then, click on Paragon Chat Installation.
7. There are 2 options to download: One - If you still have Issue 24, two - If you do not have it. Most don't so go with option two by clicking on the Tequila (for windows) option that opens another window.
8. Then, click on the link where it says download (tequila.exe).
9. After download open up tequila.exe and let it download and set up the game. However, it is very important that you do not put it in program files. Here's the instruction on that: "Download Tequila in a folder that you have write permissions to. Unless you have disabled UAC (and if you don't know what that means, you haven't) put it on a folder under My Documents or Application Data. It will save you many headaches. Don't use a folder under Program Files unless you know exactly what you're doing."
10. When complete, launch from tequila or the Paragon Chat icon from your desktop. Login and voila! Make your toons again. FYI, every costume and all adds are available. You're given infinite funds to change your character's look at the tailor' shop too.
11. There is no where you cannot visit. Heroes can go to Rogue Islands, Pocket D, Cremoria, you name it!
There you go. Enjoy! :D
Yes this works. I visit there periodically and love at least being able to revisit the city. The sound files are all there so memories spark and I remember where a badge is or something and sure enough the badges are there. It’s just fun being able to run around even if it’s little else.
Nostalgia fix!!!
"A sad spectacle. If they be inhabited, what a scope for misery and folly. If they be not inhabited, what a waste of space." ~ Thomas Carlyle
I'd pasted most of my characters and bio's online when the game went offline, but never cleaned up the garbled bio extraction. I started working through some of them when I became more active in these forums out of nostalgia. Have about a half dozen posted now. Also houses some of the old comics and scripts for unwanted comics. Really had high hopes for the "Live from paragon."

Not much else on the site worth seeing, but I keep dumping old CoH discoveries there-- better to let it loose on the 'net than disappear when my hard drive dies.
Yup all badges are there. And they've updated the year accolade awards too. So when you sign in you get the latest one. They are working on year 14 for the name of it!
