((I’m using this post and thread more to be a catchall repository of what stone-written concepts and backstory I have set down for my character Jeremy in Whitehold Apartments. It will include points that are intended for others to reference for world-physics RP interactions and as a place to say “from one roleplayer to the next I can say this but your character wouldn’t know it unless that.”))

Name:
Jeremy Heron

Alias:
Pyrolizer

Age:
24

Alignment:
Hero - - - - | - - - - Villain
Lawful - - - - - - | - - Chaotic
Violent - - - - - - - | - Pacifist
Honorable - - | - - - - - - Treacherous

Occupation:
Helps run Ludo’s Café – a local morning coffee shop that specializes in using coffee brewing methods that don’t require electricity to produce a blend (Old style drip, percolator, French press, etc.). Cash Only. Specialty house blends available for purchase by the pound.

Physical Appearance:
6’3”, 195lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes, olive-tone skin, goofy smile, very plain and forgettable face

Powers:
Rapid molecule acceleration and ionization related to high friction of particles. He does not have control of this ability at time of introduction. Instances shown currently have been cases where molecules are accelerated and the friction ionizes the air. At rest, the ability tends to idle on his skin. It often makes him cause a shock to the touch and have bad luck with electronics.

With the idea of telluric currents and ley lines, its highly possible that those who read magic auras and such might register that Jeremy is effectively a capacitor for such energy as an outlet ionic field from inside the earth to the upper atmosphere.

Backstory:
IC: Jeremy was a typical single-child, single-parent latch-key city kid. He had public city schooling, holds a low income job, and lives paycheck to paycheck. He was born with superpower as a condition, but it did not become troublesome until he was 8. Adolescence shaped by his inability to use social media texting, cell phones, and the internet. It proved difficult for a city kid and often that difficulty was not overcome.
OOC: character was initially a fire/elec scrapper idea that never went anywhere. With some idea of how it would interact I’ve been developing and filling in the complexities, which like any good comic hero will grow and change him. He's now better fitted as a thermal-radiation/electric-assault Vindicator type.

Introduced Conditions:
Lives in Whitehold Apartments on the second floor, has no control over his abilities, is not registered nor does he act as an unregistered vigilante. Rides a longboard for transportation (even in the winter, which doesn’t bother him that much) and likes his coffee with a bit of cream and sugar.

Current Conditions:
Jeremy has basic control over his ability. His powers have developed two sides: beneficial and damaging. He is in possession of two key textbooks. One explores basic atmospheric electricity and another explores plasma heating.

In-depth backstory:

In-depth backstory:

Jeremy Heron is the only child of Brad Heron and Tanya Ferretti. The two met at a mixer at Brad's college one spring night. They dated for a few weeks after but found they were incompatible on numerous levels, quickly and disruptively breaking it off. Once it was apparent that Tanya was pregnant, she immediately sought sole custody child support claiming she planned to keep the child. During the initial discovery hearings Brad's family income was revealed to be insignificant and his collegiate attendance was purely scholarship based. Brad turned her plans on their ear further by agreeing to raise the child together, married, if she would sign a pre-nuptial agreement. Realizing she wouldn't have grounds for child support if she refused and unwilling to abort her pregnancy, she relented. Three years after Jeremy was born, Tanya disappeared. It is unknown why or under what conditions surrounded her disappearance. The TCPD designated her missing persons case cold and unsolved five years later.

Brad vowed to raise Jeremy as best he could, and Jeremy's grandparents helped when they could, enabling Brad to complete his degree and find a job. Jeremy's grandparents both considered it important Brad complete his education, being the first in their family to make it to college. Brad almost did not complete due to the increasingly failing health of his parents, and was unable to get a decent job with the majority of his time invested to caring for two geriatrics and a child.

Growing up in south-side was rough for Jeremy, but it wasn't until his poorly funded elementary school upgraded their typing lab that his powers revealed itself. Jeremy had to use mechanical typewriters while the rest of his classmates used recently re-donated Apple IIe computers. Jeremy had a particularly difficult time as the need for accessing the internet became so vital for projects in school and often failed classes because of it. Eventually to learn, he took the old-school method of using the public library and would often stay somewhere inside those walls for hours on end. He grew fond of books and quiet spaces, and became skilled at finding anything in those pages. This complication would eventually lead him to drop out of school entirely.

Few friends stuck with him through these years of being singled out. Soon a few other students began manifesting powers in higher grades were turning into bullies and others exploited their gifts to gain popularity and fame. Jeremy was a frequent target from both groups through middle and high school claiming he let his powers squander and was a waste of a gift. Brad struggled to help his son, but couldn't afford the proper solutions on his low and unpredictable salary. There were a few kids that still hung out with Jeremy before the social media and smartphone boom. After both hit the teenage scene Jeremy fell off the map completely without a means of contact or uploading. The isolation prompted Jeremy to act out and seek groups that weren't so technology reliant. These new friends got Jeremy into various outdoor urban activities like parkour and skateboarding. He managed to avoid the darker side of this lifestyle. It was from this group of urbanites that animosity against the TCPD for not tracking down his mom developed, and he grew to hate her for leaving. Jeremy has a long history of depression over not being normal, resenting his powers, and his mother for making life so difficult.

After encouragement from his dad, Jeremy sought to obtain his GED to improve his options as best he could. However, Jeremy saw no value in seeking college education that he couldn't afford and would only complicate his life in his current state. Instead opting for getting odd jobs around the city, Jeremy settled into a life as a coffee barista at a long-time friend's father's coffee shop, Ludo's Coffee. The shop minimizes electronics for aesthetics and it makes it that much easier for Jeremy to operate without fear of melting something. Searching for a life on his own, Jeremy moved into the Whitehold Apartments when he left home, both moving into Alexandria at the cheapest rent he could find.  It was worth it to him to endure exposure to all those heroes thinking he could keep his powers under control and in check, remaining a civilian.

In recent years, Jeremy has had the ever growing issue of his powers growing erratic and stronger despite his refusal to harness them properly. This led him to scorching the pavement and nearly burning down his kitchen three times in the past six months.

There's a citizen I look

There's a citizen I look forward to seeing.

Given his background it's interesting that beyond all the "calculated factors" he still didn'become a true villain but is deciding to use his new-found power to help those that are powerless (or should I say "less-powered").

Thanks for the insight.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback!

Pyrolizer inherently has a desire to be good, but he doesn't agree with how that looks on television. I very much want him to walk the catwoman line between hero and villain, being neither and self-driven.

A recent realization on

A recent realization on further abstractions of ions and their presence in natural sciences into theorycraft presented an interesting scenario: a concentrated ion field (like every cell on the skin is ionized) would have a natural if not currently small disruption to telluric currents and ley lines, potentially making him a capacitor between telluric and ley lines... Effectively, this could make him a walking power source for magical energy, or to disrupt it. Goody...

Oh Jeremy might come in handy

Oh Jeremy might come in handy to save/destroy the world if Juran Frost gets his hands on all the orbs. He could rush in and disrupt the magic preventing the rift in reality from forming. Just an idea...
