Just a little rant while I have some down time at work.
I'm really interested in the Power Control power set. It sounds like it's mainly based on -regen. Increasing enemy cool downs, decreasing their endurance. Immersion wise, their mind isn't hindered, they're fully mobile, they just can't do their thing. That guy who throws fire just won't be able to muster any. It's hard to glimpse much more, after all there's just 2 power examples. Nullify Velocity seems like the 'default' move, a very short root/immobilize, -regen and damage. I figure to a target this would feel like a sudden intense numb sensation, a hiccup that interrupts what ever they're trying to do, whether throwing an element or aiming a gun. Obstruction seems more situational, let's hope it has low trolling potential in public areas. But the guy gets the intense numbing that throws off his aim and leaves him feeling drained. When he musters up the strength to point the gun again, a wall appears in the way. Even the wall emits a numbing feeling if you get close. Unlike other sets that will be hard controls, with holds and sleeps, this will be about disallowing the enemy resources. It may be a bit more difficult to take it solo as the enemy pretty much gets all their opening attacks or 'alpha strike' off, but anything beyond that is going to be hard for them.
Combining that with Vampiric Emanation is going to have so much thematic synergy. The target getting numb as you casually steal his power and distribute it among allies.
While not the route I'm going to go, I can see darkness being a popular theme for the combo. I'm hoping for something more runic, or to at least make it look like ancient magics from before the modern arcana used today. Enigmatic is the goal you could say, as it's going to be very indirect compared to other sets.
No idea what the other powers are, no idea what the pet would be, or if there's even a pet. But that's the set that's had my mind hooked on the game since shortly after the examples were given.
What are everyone else's ideas about? What themes are you hoping to explore when your Operator is made?
I was always a fan of Fire Control back in CoH - one of my original "mains" was a Fire/Rad Controller. So naturally I've been trying to think of what the best way might be to come close to "recreating" that in CoT. Given the descriptions of the powersets we have to work with it may actually be an interesting challenge to figure that out.
I think I might try Psychic Control as a rough analog for CoH's Fire Control. I know at first using something called "Psychic" doesn't sound that close to Fire but based on the descriptions the key thing with Psychic Control is its emphasis is on doing HP damage to its victims. Back in CoH Fire Control was the Controller powerset that was most strongly geared towards doing actual damage to critters. In fact that powerset actually traded off some of its overall Mez effectiveness to be arguably the most "damage oriented" Controller powerset.
So I figure with the aesthetic customization options I should be able to make Psychic Control "look" like fire and go with that.
As far as making an analog for CoH's Radiation Emission powerset that's probably going to be a bit harder. Rad's big thing was applying major debuffs on enemies. The closest CoT support powersets for that would likely be either Strategy or Vampiric Emanation. As far as Strategy goes it looks like that powerset will be "half debuffs on enemies" and "half buffs on allies". I guess that would work especially if I strongly favor the "debuff" half of that. On the other hand Vampiric Emanation seems a lot like CoH's Kinetics powerset and has all that extra "transfer energy to your friends" stuff that seems pretty different from CoH's Radiation Emission.
It turns out that the Preservation powerset also talks about "debuffing enemies" but it doesn't really offer an example power for how that might work. It might turn out that Preservation is going to be closer to CoH's Radiation Emission than it seems but that's just not clear right now.
Looks like I'm going to have to make some kind of serious compromise in order to "shoehorn" a Fire/Rad into CoT.

Power Control doesn’t debuff regeneration of health, it affects the recovery of power.

Was that for McJigg or me? Not sure either of us was suggesting Power Control debuffs regeneration of health. It's pretty clear based on what McJigg wrote that he probably meant to say "-Recovery" instead of "-regen".
P.S. Even the Titan Network write-up for Recovery ironically mentions "Many players confuse Recovery with Regeneration". ;)

Lothic has the right of it, I did mean -Recovery.
To be clear, McJigg did, very specifically, say -regen. And, Lothic, as inspired and insightful as most of your posts are, you need not reply to EVERYTHING...
I did say "-regen", but Lothic was right that I meant -recovery and the rest of my post described what was -recovery.
Are you planning an Operator Mons? What's your goal for the class?
At least my "reply" in this case was helpful to sort out a misunderstanding about a commonly misused term. What purpose was your post serving here other than to be snarky?

Sorry, a bit tipsy last night. The only Controller I managed to level to 50 in the old game was an illusions/bubbler, but I don't think I intend to recreate her. I am curious about synergies between gravity or power control paired with strategy.
My favorite Controllers were a Gravity/Radiation and Mind/Storm and Controllers were one of my favorite ATs. I tried to make at least one of every kind.
I absolutely plan to try to recreate the Mind/Storm. She could drift into the enemy base in a cloud of mist and drift back out, leaving Every Baddie dead or unconscious, without leaving a mark or sign. Well, unless she pulled out the Hurricane or Lightning Storm.
Investigator to Supervisor: "I dunno. It's like they all went insane and killed each other, or just fell down. Nobody saw Anything!"
Supervisor to Investigator: "Must have been a Mind Controller."
Be Well!
