Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

I'd imagine there will be a LOT of stuff they will want to work on after launch - missions, raids, events, powers and power themes, zones, costumes, animations, the pet classification, filling out the various specifications, the mission creator, etc etc etc.

Personally I wouldn't even bother to ask for a timeframe - they can't give you any guarantees anyway - so I guess the question is how high up the priority ladder are additional paths? Which I suppose is related to the question "how much ground do the existing paths cover"? If they are broad and applicable to a wide variety of character concepts, then the drive to produce more would likely be low - something to look at years down the road. Even if the paths are relatively narrow, there is a LOT of stuff on their plate for the first couple years after launch - so hope for the best?

Priority trumps Timeframe. :O

But, if MWM goes with this approach, its no longer a Waterfall methodology, but more of an Agile approach! ;)
Since this is an MMO, and you need to be Online to use, updates Can be applied on a daily basis, if needed. ;D
Test server (or maybe just Test shards on Live, or whatever) would still need to be separate installs on the PC.

Short version: Other paths will follow in post-launch expansions.

Long version:
We have many ideas for expansion content, including paths. We have a general overall feel of "By expansion x, we should have content a; by expansion y, we should have content b."
We [b][i]have not[/i][/b] sat down to figure out exactly what each of those types of content would entail. We have not sat down to itemize all the different path options that we can explore.
We [b][i]have[/i][/b] generally discussed some of the general directions that each of the four paths that we are launching with will have, as well as tossing about some broad ideas for paths that need a different start than the four we will have at launch.
Our [b][i]current priority[/i][/b] is content for launch. Once all of the lore content for launch, every single bit of it, is complete, we will work on expansion material. This will happen before launch itself, but the exact time frame is not yet known.

The timeline for additional paths, as well as extensions of the original paths, has not yet been determined. Please stay tuned...

Here's the real sticking

Here's the real sticking point.

City of Heroes was designed from the get-go to only work ONE WAY. This made future expansions either excessively difficult and/or UGLY UGLY HACKS of the underlying engine to get it do things it was never supposed to do in the first place.

Alignment shifting is but one example of the kind of "hack the system" work that City of Heroes had to do. The game was written with the underlying assumption that everyone was a Hero, with the entire Red Side kludged on after the fact.

It's a very different thing to design what amounts to, essentially, an Open Ended System for storytelling paths ... in which you start with four, but aren't designing the game to be LIMITED TO ONLY FOUR.

This is one of those "build it RIGHT the first time" kinds of deals that will save you incredible amounts of time, money and frustration later if you just "go the extra mile" today to design the system from the start as being extensible with additional options. Build it as an "open" system rather than a "closed" one that doesn't want to have more stuff shoehorned into later. Yet another example of how premature optimization can wind up biting you in the ass on down the line. Good to know that MWM is already ahead of the curve on this (not our) problem.

If I'm understanding what's being discussed on this thread correctly, then that's the first time I've heard of a possible step DOWN from CoH discussed.

You could of course change alignment in CoH, so not being able to change paths would be leaving out a feature that was in CoH, and a feature that is a staple of classic comics--the fallen hero or the redeemed villain.

Plus it could be fun for story-sake to go from street to spandex or vice versa.

I hope, if not at first, this feature is at least eventually added. It seems important for a spiritual successor to CoH.

FIGHT EVIL! (or go cause trouble so the Heroes have something to do.)

I believe that the paths system is totally separate from the alignment mechanic. The Path(s) are the character's story arc.

I am hoping that they decide to allow switching Paths, at least some time in the future. A lot of my character concepts don't seem to fit well with the starting four paths. Or, at a minimum, the Paths are extremely broad.

Paths are very different from

Paths are very different from the tri-axis alignment system, though they are not entirely separate either. The alignment system can indeed have an effect on the Path the character is on. It is part of what we've discussed on our gameplay team on how to handle transitions into / out of / changing Paths. An example here is say we have a character on the Street Hero Path, and the character moves out of the 'hero' alignments and into the 'villain' alignments. It wouldn't make much sense for them to complete the Street Hero path, but instead switch over to the Street Villain path.

That part isn't so much of a problem. The stuff that needs to be figured out are transitions from very separate Paths multiple times in multiple "directions". We have ideas on how it will work, but it is stuff we have to actually code and test. We're still working on combat at this time.

Nyxz is right, in that alignment and path are not the same. However, there is some interplay (e.g. playing a villain through the spandex hero path would not make much sense).

Right now, the paths are extremely broad. One of the primary issues with changing paths is the how. Start from scratch as if right out of chargen? Some story method? There are many things to consider.

Right now, it is not very high up on the priority scale, so it has not been settled. I would not expect it to be available at launch; I cannot speak to anything after that because, as I said, it is still being discussed and not yet settled.

Well, then I'd vote for at least an eventual path-changing feature, but as long as you can change alignment then you are once again improving on CoH with the additional Path system.

Well, I'm trying to figure out where my 'anti-Batman', positive hero in white trousers and a t-shirt, is supposed to fit on these paths? Because he's filthy rich, but doesn't wear spandex, and aims well above 'the street'.

We might need a 'Generic Hero' Path.

You choose the Spandex Hero PATH but then don't use any of the Spandex options in the costume editor.
