ODOeo ODOeo wherefore art thou ODOeo

I think we've established on another forum that Odo has got to be in the game, but I'm not certain we've figured out how. Some have mentioned displaying him as a mannequin in a store front. I wonder if we could have a zone full of Odos sort of like iRobot.

What ideas do you have, and what would you like to see?

What would his back story be?

Would he be in a mission?

Would there be an exploration badge for finding him?

Might even be interesting to see an entire faction based on androids modeled after Odo. I have pictured in my mind that final scene from iRobot...

where the leftover "race" of androids are now left to fend for themselves, possibly becoming intelligent enough to be either equals or rivals of human beings. Maybe they could be hidden away in some isolated part of the city waiting for their chance to be accepted and/or gain ground. I don't necessarily see them as "heroes" or "villains" but maybe they could play one side against the other to try to further their own agendas.

I like the way you think. So

I like the way you think. So often sci-fi stories assume the robot overlords are super smart, driven, strong, fast, etc. What if instead of being equals they had evolved just enough awareness to gain some freedom and replicate, but otherwise roam around about like zombies. Hmmm, could that be a zombie robot zone? Somehow I think I'd like something more positive for Odo like being the avatar for a race of observers.

When you say "faction" does that imply a playable race?

No, I was implying that it would be its own group of NPC critters just like the other groups of being developed for the game. I can see where that might have been unclear because that word is often uniquely used to describe player groupings in MMOs.

But I suppose if such a NPC group existed a player could then create an android character whose background is related to that group in some fashion...

I always did like smart AIs.

I always did like smart AIs. Hal 9000 was a good example it wasn't dumb it had a clear objective and only when the humans got in the way did it plan to kill them.

faction as they seem to be in CoT are not playable races but groups you can work with, for, or against. Of course there is no reason you can't make your own Odo android and just join the Robots.

If there is a place to test

If there is a place to test out our powers, we could use him as a target dummy.

I love playing with Leo,

I love playing with Leo, ASTRA, DARK, Legend, VENUS and various other AI's such as DEREK and DORIS.

And I know that Midnight is coming soon.

Sorry, just something little that I have been involved with part of the Elite Dangerous community.

Hmm...

Hmm...

In one of the darker, emptier sections of the mostly abandoned industrial district of Ironport is a hidden faction of eyeless, featureless blue androids. Their origins are obscure, but it is believed they are the result of experiments by the late 21st Century Turing Machine researcher Dr. Roddian to create a fully rational mechanical human devoid of emotion. People who encounter these androids refer to them as "Odos" because of an odd sound their joints make when they move. There are rumored to be several hundred Odos inhabiting two abandoned factories and one abandoned warehouse. Recently talk on the street has it that one of the factories has been refitted to mass produce others of their kind with the intent to create for themselves a fully realized political status as sentient beings.

Mission One: Identify the Odo leader

Go to the abandoned warehouse in Ironport where the Odo seem to be living. Attempt to interview several of them and find out who leads them. If possible, make contact with the leader and determine their intent. (Talk to 5 Odo)

After talking to five Odo the player learns the leader of the Odo calls himself Daneel Olivaw based on a character created by Isaac Asimov.

When they interview Daneel Olivaw, he asks for their support in gaining political recognition for his people.

If the player agrees, the meeting is attacked by a group of red Odo that break in through a wall behind Daneel Olivaw. During the battle some of the red Odo kidnap Daneel Olivaw and flee the scene. On one of the destroyed red Odo the player finds a book, "Silicon Rising", by someone named "Adam Selene". The address on the back cover is for a publishing house in a section of Charleston that runs between territory controlled by The Black Rose on one side and the Five Dragons on the other, yet claimed by neither.

If the player disagrees, they are attacked by blue Odos. If they defeat Daneel Olivaw and his followers they are given a choice:
Destroy Daneel Olivaw
Destroy the Odo stronghold and every Odo inhabiting it
Call in the TCPD to lock down the Odo warehouse and investigate further

At the publishing house the first floor reception seems ordinary enough, but an odd photo hangs on the wall behind the reception desk. It features a man in a lab coat standing between two Odos, one blue and one red. The Odos are displayed in large containers that vaguely resemble high-quality coffins with plush lining. When the player asks the receptionist about it she replies, "That's our founder, Dr. Anson with two androids he purchased from the estate of Dr. Roddian after his death. Unfortunately, neither of them worked. Dr. Anson himself passed away before he could figure out how to make them functional."

As the player leaves they are ambushed by red Odos shouting, "Adam Selene lives!" and "Olivaw is a traitor!"

After the ambush, win or lose, the player returns to their initial contact to report their findings. The contact is troubled and sends them to confer with Prof. Gordon at the University. Prof. Gordon is a specialist in interpersonal relations with a strong interest in human-AI relations.

Mission Two: Save Daneel Olivaw

At the University Prof. Gordon shows them another copy of Adam Selene's book, describing it as "robotic version of Mein Kampf". "Whoever wrote this book is a danger to us all. You'd best take a closer look at the publisher."

Back at the publisher the player finds the receptionist desk empty, so they head upstairs. Every upper floor is a battleground with red and blue Odos locked in fierce combat. The blues appear to be losing. The player jumps in and after helping defeat the reds the blues tell him, "Find Daneel Olivaw! He's somewhere in the building!"

On the top floor the player encounters Daneel Olivaw strapped to a table with a red standing over him in the midst of a monologue about how he will lead the Odo to take over Ironport, then Titan City, and maybe even the entire world. Daneel Olivaw interrupts from time to time begging for patience as he seeks to negotiate recognition of the Odo people by the human race. At one point he says, "Our own father was human, Adam! If you hate them, you hate him."

After the player defeats Adam Selene they are given a choice:
Destroy Adam Selene
Destroy both Adam Selene and Daneel Olivaw
Take Adam Selene to Dr. Gordon for rehabilitation

Pretty nice way to flesh

Nice way to flesh things out Greyhawk. Maybe we just collectively gave MWM a starting point for an entire arc of missions. :)
