Please read the current update for instructions on downloading the latest update. Players with Mac versions of the game will not be affected, but you will have a slightly longer wait for your version of the new maps. Please make a copy of your character folder before running the new update, just to make sure you don't lose any of your custom work.

It looks like we can give everyone a list of minimum specs for running City of Titans. Please keep in mind that this is 'for now' until we are able to add more graphics and other system refinements. Currently you will need :
Windows 10 or later required; no Intel integrated graphics like UHD, must have AMD or NVIDIA card or discrete chipset with 4Gb or more of VRAM
At least 16GB of main DRAM.
These stats may change as we continue to test.

To purchase your copy of the City of Titans Launcher, visit our store at https://store.missingworldsmedia.com/ A purchase of $50 or more will give you a link to download the Launcher for Windows or Mac based machines.

Northeastern Research District (OOC)

Well you all know the drill. Figured it was time for N.E.R.D. to get it's own forum thread. The spider something I RPed long time ago and one of my favorite creations. Of course can't really RP a spider in CoH (Crab Spider arachnos don't count.) Don't think we will get the option in CoT either. Maybe we be lucky and get Driders!

Well with all these science labs about there bound to be more than one escape project eventually!

I'm working on the assumption

I'm working on the assumption that this wasn't the first, or even the first sapient, escapee. And for those not aware, Tinker Belle is a gadgeteer. Unfortunately, the Guard Leader may remember some times about a decade ago when EdenTech was somewhat embarrassed by Tink and the Duchess, back in the day. Will he listen to her? Maybe yes, maybe no...

Believe it or not the Guard

Believe it or not the Guard Leader maybe a jerk but he is doing what he thinks is best. Using only not lethal weaponry (note the guard at the door not included here) as for Mar the Spider being self aware he has no idea if that's true or not. He just knows it's an animal that escaped and could cause great harm. Technically speaking the spider is a Failure. Sure the Edentech scientists were trying to make a larger spider. But one the size of a small car wasn't the goal. A mid size dog was the target size.

I'm assuming that Tink was not so lucky as to have only Bruno in the line she detected a transmission along. Also, she won't need to stop to tell if it's a common coin, she has filters for that. Most likely false positives that she would need to check physically/visually would be hairpins, paperclips, or a small nail.

She also has filters for less common coins. Those she'll note to pick up later ^_^

I've been tempted to jump in here since TK was last seen in the northern research district and Luca has research being done with Liquid light, but real life just threw an unexpected curve-ball and I'm going on vacation in a week. I'm gonna work my characters into parking spots until I'm back :D

Skin is a synthetic akin to vinyl, but more flexible, over a thin layer of buckyweave, then a thin layer of a fat analogue (actually more of that synthetic foamed up, with water stored in the cavities.) The muscles are an artificial myomer, and the bones are a composite of fullerene tubule fibers in a heavy-duty surgical resin. The nervous system is fiber optics, with semiconductor based nerve endings (sensors for pressure and for temperature, connected to semiconductor lasers, and photoelectric cells for controlling the muscles.) The equivalent of the circulatory system is the shielded electrical cables bringing power from the cold fusion cells in the long bones (where the marrow would be) to the muscles and other power-using systems. The actual brain/CPU is in the chest, and the skull is full of comm gear and an EMP generator.

Why would Eric immediately

Why would Eric immediately assume that Adam doesn't have a last name?

Maybe Dr. O'Brian prefers not to give out the full names of her employees to new clients? Or perhaps, considering the context, she didn't feel it was necessary at that time? Or maybe Adam has requested that his last name not be given out if it isn't necessary?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it feels like you're meta-gaming just a tad and having Eric try too hard to figure out that Adam is not quite human.

Well not really assuming he was not quite human. I edit, meant that he catches on that he wasn't told a last name. Of course given the City they are in why wouldn't one assume someone wasn't quite human when noting something different?

As for the Nanites they are more like Stem Cells. If Programed right they can change to meet a need, but can't change again after meeting the new requirement.

So, effectively like a blank

So, effectively like a blank cd-rom: once it's written on, it's readable but not changeable. Can they be programmed to reproduce? That is, make more blanks?

And, while being not quite human may be common in Titan City, assuming someone isn't quite human just because of not being told a last name would be a bit of a leap in my opinion. OTOH, in Titan City, not being quite human isn't grounds for being treated as if you weren't a person, so if Eric had jumped to that conclusion it wouldn't be so hard to leap back from; his foot wouldn't be as far into his mouth as one might expect in a more homogenous city. ^_^

Well look at it this way. He

Well look at it this way. He's in a lab with one artificial girl lexi, working on another artificial girl Simone, and there someone named Adam. Thought truth is Eric wasn't making any comment about Adam not being Human. Just noted no last name, like Madonna, Sting, Bono.

As for the nanites I haven't really thought if they would be programed to replicate. They were just a Macguffin to explain how an artificial brain could be a near replica of a living brain. So the fine points I never thought about.

The Unit One system was range damage so the Protocols would be written for range tactics in mind.

I've been thinking (a dangerous pasttime that I wouldn't recommend), and considering all the work that is going to need to be done in building Simone a body and then teaching both her and MIMIC how to be human, should we consider the possibility of doing a time jump? Nothing big, mind you. 2-3 weeks at most. Perhaps, we could cover those weeks with some kind of montage post?

I have no problem with that.

I have no problem with that. Been using most of these posts on character development and flushing out personalities. Simone is an evolution of a CoH character I had named Silicon Matrix. Basically a mass of nanites imprinted with the mind of a dying woman. Given I have a shape changing alt already Unknown, I'm going with a more solid form, change the adaptive nanites to be only one change so they can adapt to form new nanites but not change back. OR else we have two Mimics!

Thinking that Simone going to get a combat module that interfaces with her body. So something like a power armor to house her weaponry. Used the Module idea when I Rped Unit two when he switched from Melee to range attacks.

Well hold on there, buckaroo.

Well hold on there, buckaroo. I think there's a little more ground work to be done before we embark on a time jump.

1. The search for MIMIC's pursuers is ready for the jump. I'll cover the progress of that in a post.

2. I don't know if Millicent will want to sit MIMIC down and discuss its learning plan. I'll leave that up to Foradain.

3. We might want to at least get the basics of Simone's body and armor established.

4. Anything else that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

I'm thinking that what we can do is each one of us will write up a 'jump post' that covers what our characters are doing in those 2-3 weeks. Speaking of which, how long do we want to make the jump?

A week to make Simone's body,

A week to make Simone's body, hence the "Rocky" label on the design software. Longer to design, build, and test her armor. Good News: equivalent of a neural interface is easy!

MIMIC's education starts with the updated and inclusive translation of the Declaration of Independence, then a practice GED test, to find out where he needs work. Once he can pass that test, higher education can be considered. For learning how to fit in, many trips to places people gather, and many movies with commentary. Caves of Steel and Frankenstein will be read, along with a pair of essays, "Slaves of Steel" by M. S. O'Brian and "Frankenstein the Monster" by M.M. Morrison. (The former discusses problems with the Three Laws, and the latter accuses Victor Frankenstein of child abandonment.)

Well, when MIMIC's education

Well, when MIMIC's education and training begins, an interesting quirk that Millicent will discover is that MIMIC cannot absorb too much input or matter at any one time. Absorbing too much input has the potential to cause a psychological split, while absorbing too much matter has the potential to cause a physical split (Matter absorption is used to repair damage and/or replace destroyed nanocells). Hence MIMIC's reticence about 'making friends'. This has to do with the design of MIMIC's gestalt consciousness.

MIMIC is composed of tens of trillions of nanocells. For every million nanocells, there is a Command Cell (CC). For every thousand CC's, there is an MCC (Master Command Cell). Input has to be allowed to filter down through the gestalt and be absorbed by every nanocell. If any absorbed input directly affects any nanocell's function, then that input will be retained. If not, it is deleted from the singular nanocells, but still retained by the gestalt memory. Absorbing too much too quickly can interrupt the absorption process and cause dissonance between nanocells. If the dissonance grows severe enough, 'healthy' nanocells will stop communicating with 'faulty' nanocells and it can lead to the creation of a second gestalt consciousness.

As for absorption, this goes back to the number of nanocells that compose MIMIC. That number is somewhere around 50 trillion. As matter is absorbed, it is broken down at the atomic level and converted into new nanocells. The new nanocells replace destroyed and severely damaged nanocells. Nanocells with minor damage will be repaired. Those badly damaged nanocells are deactivated and sloughed off like human skin cells. Over time, they will break down into their atomic constituents. However, if too much matter is absorbed at one time, it can interrupt the conversion process and MIMIC will begin sloughing off the damaged cells without deactivating them. The damaged cells will bond with each other in an attempt to maintain the gestalt and you end up with what amounts to mutant horrors composed of rogue nanocells. They are mindless and will begin lashing out and 'eating' whatever they can to grow. This could lead to small-scale Grey Goo scenarios.

These are both faults brought on by MIMIC's deactivation and reactivation by a technologically less-advanced race. If, by some miraculous chance, contact could ever be made with MIMIC's creators, both of those problems could be fixed.

Basically, these two things

Basically, these two things are flaws I put into MIMIC's story on purpose. Otherwise, he could very quickly become ridiculously powerful and I'm trying to avoid that.

He wasn't aware of it when he was first awakened. But Michael figured it out relatively quickly and programmed in warning prompts that MIMIC can choose to heed or not.

Well, somebody talking isn't going to trigger its input overload. I put that in place so that it can't simply plug into the Internet and know everything after just a few days. MIMIC's input absorption limit will be somewhere around 1 petabyte per day. Some will say that that is ALOT, but considering that last year the entire Web was estimated to have reached 4 zettabytes, i don't think it's that much. At the rate of 1 petabyte per day, it would take MIMIC somewhere north of 11,000 years to absorb every byte of input on the Internet.

Putting yourself in another persons shoes emotionally is something that everyone has to experience eventually. It's part of learning to be a human being. Roleplayers do it for fun.

Not likely to come up then

Not likely to come up then under normal circumstances, then. ^_^

BTW, I have no clue about this race; I'm winging it. Feel free to describe the next bit of track.

But I think we can treat any frosting on the track as ice. ^_^
