(Sorry if this is the wrong spot but I didn't see a more appropriate one...)
Thomas Maddox, world-renowned inventor and business mogul, was a man driven to extremes. In the 1920s he founded his business, Maddox Inc, and easily weathered the Crash of 1929. In the 1930s he theorized that travel to the Moon was possible and began the Maddox Project to prove it. His ship blasted on June 9th, 1937 and was never seen again. Maddox's son Christopher assumed control of his father's company and the world mourned the loss of a great man.
Fast-forward to today and the world is shocked to discover that Thomas Maddox actually succeeded and reached the moon. He discovered remnants of an ancient civilization there as well as survivors of some long-past disaster held in suspended animation. His curiosity overcame him and he managed to free one of them and revive him. The vast array of technology allowed the two to communicate and Maddox began to learn of a race called the Founders.
However Maddox has not returned to Earth as the great hero but rather as a conqueror. Using the technology from the Founders (working name), he has prolonged his life-span and increased his intelligence. He has convinced the Founders that Humanity is not fit to rule the Earth and must be enslaved. He has taken his army, dubbed the New Men, back to Earth to begin the invasion.
In a nutshell, Maddox has been driven over the edge by the technology used to increase his intelligence. The Founders had intended to use the Earth as a base of operations for their star-spanning war eons ago but a fault in their power system doomed their lunar forward base. Now they are revived and their base repaired. Mankind has developed from a primitive species to an advanced one and the Founders believe that one of their enemies (insert alien race here) had a hand in our development. Now they mean to carry out their mission by testing Humans (super and not) and conquering the planet, Maddox is a typical megalomaniac returning to prove his greatness to the world.
Enemies from this group could include everything from robots to cloned troops to mutated animals. Their logo would be a stylized N and M overlapping on their uniforms.
I remember when Star Wars was cool...a long, long time ago...
Unfortunately, both Image and Marvel have teams called the New Men. :(
